Squire Cottage, an old farm worker's cottage, sleeps four in two bedrooms and downstairs, has a huge inglenook fireplace with an open fire.

Great holiday, great place, plenty of space and great views. The only thing I can say it would be nice to have a grab rail in the bathroom for us older people to help use the shower.

Lovely old farmhouse in beautiful surroundings. Really helpful farmer/owner. The only drawback was the very narrow country roads to get to the main road.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay..

Wonderful break at Squire cottage, just what was needed. Beautiful location with easy access to footpaths from your front door to explore the surrounding area if you want or pick up on some of the longer trails (Heart of Wales line). Greeted with fresh bread, eggs, milk and butter which was lovely touch.

Squire cottage is beautiful and is set in the most tranquil location. A visitor cannot help but relax and unwind here in complete peace and quiet. Yet the cottage is perfectly situated to explore Shropshire, Herefordshire and Wales. We just loved our stay and would love to return one day.

Squire cottage is a very well equiped cottage very spacious and very comfortable, it is some way away from amenities such as shops, pubs and resturants but if peace and tranquility is what you are looking for this could well and truly be what you are looking for.
The oweners are on hand and very approachable and leave a very welcoming food pack for you.
We needed a peaceful break to recharge ourselves and this certainly gave us the opertunity to do that.

We loved this property. The location is wonderful and the cottage is straight from a Thomas Hardy novel. Though rustic it was very comfortable and warm and full of character. The fresh home made bread and eggs were a treat. The garden was secure and safe for our little terrier Harry. One request would be a really big bed in the large bedroom. It has to be the most peaceful working farm I have ever stayed on. Would love to go back soon. Regards Carole Binns.

We really enjoyed our 4 night stay at Squires Farm cottage. It is very large, comfortable, well equipped and has great views. There is a lovely garden with a great seating area. Lots of extras provided including homemade sourdough bread and farm eggs. It is a great base for hiking and for exploring the area. Peter and Becky were very friendly and helpful.

We stayed over Christmas 2023 and chose the cottage for it's old world charm to give us a cosy and traditional festive holiday. The photos do not do Squire cottage justice, it's absolutely stunning 'in the flesh'.

We took our own decorations and once all up, the place looked incredible. The inglenook fireplace was fantastic and a great centrepiece. The cottage is superbly well equipped, all the gubbins we normally bring with us were uneeded.

We can't say much about the surrounding area as the weather was appalling and we just wanted to stay in and chill out.

Ludlow is a lovely place to visit which we did a couple of times.

The Co-op in Knighton is, I believe, the nearest shop and once you've got over how strange it is, it's got everything you need.

Thank you to Becky and Peter for a most enjoyable stay, we shall be back in the summer.

We've stopped at the cottage a few times now, great location, very private. The cottage has everything you need and a secure garden for dogs. Easy access to walks over the hills and only a short drive to local shops.
Love the welcome pack, particularly the fresh homemade bread!

Squire Cottage is full of character and is situated in a quite, beautiful position near to the village of Chapel Lawn.
The garden is peaceful and overlooks fields where sheep, rabbits and horses graze, it is also possible to walk direct from the front door.
However I found the beds too firm for comfort, the shower and bath difficult to access and use and lastly the kitchen hob is awkwardly placed and difficult to use.

John from Cardiff stayed at Squire Cottage for 7 nights in August 2023

Becky replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review John. Unfortunately, the issues you had with the bath/shower and the kitchen hob are things which are built into the cottage and cannot be changed without complete make-overs. The bed is a matter of taste, but it does have a mattress topper on it, though maybe not soft enough for some! I am looking into getting a new one...

An old traditional wooden framed cottage set in a tranquil valley gave us a very restful week
Lovely views from the garden with only the sounds of birds and distant sheep
A well equipped but simple holiday cottage with a friendly atmosphere. Our hosts were about but unobtrusive
So lovely we booked another week.

A lovely, historic building set within the fabulous Shropshire Hills. This is a little gem and ideal if you are seeking peace and tranquility. From the well-maintained garden, we spotted Red Kites, heard owls tweeting and bats zip around the adjoining meadow in the evening, watched the House Sparrows nesting outside in the very old timber oak beams, and relaxed to the sound of sheep calling to their lambs. Bliss.

Second time we've visited squire cottage and had another great stay. Brought our two dogs to get away from fireworks and party noise over new year and really enjoyed it. Nice location for walks and secure garden for the dogs.
Homemade bread, butter and milk on arrival is a really nice touch and we look forward to staying again.

A very charming and character-full oldy world cottage, set in spectacular surroundings.

We were a family of 4 with 2 x teenage kids. Despite having full wifi available, they spent most of their indoor time playing board games together.

The host were very friendly, and didn't intrude - whilst being available for troubleshooting when we needed it.

The perfect base for hiking & exploring this ancient landscape!

A beautiful location. So very quiet. Partly because you are a mile or so down a single track road (with passing places) from the nearest village and then 300 yards along a farm track

So much to see from interesting villages, lovely Ludlow and plenty of nearby English Heritage, National Trust and Cadw properties

Peter and Becky are deliberately unobstrusive.

Garden is lovely, private with wonderful views and is (really) dog proof.

All rooms are nicely furnished in rustic style. Beds very comfortable.

Beautiful old cottage. Perfect location for us visiting family. The children loved the surroundings, with our horse neighbours in the back field. And our dog enjoyed the garden and field to run around in. Would highly recommend the short (but steep) climb up to Caer Caradoc - the Iron Age Fort is big and impressive, and the views on a clear day are stunning…you’ll feel on top of the world!!!

Squire Cottage is a fascinating historic farm building, tucked away in a tranquil Shropshire valley. There's an excellent selection of local walks, so there's no need to hop in the car to experience wildlife and stunning views. The owners are very helpful, but not intrusive, and they take Covid-19 hygiene measures seriously. A large Co-op only a few miles away will provide supplies, and the pub in the nearby village of Bucknell does excellent food.

This cottage is a lovely old building, well equiped and very clean. It is in a beautiful location up a very quiet valley, with a gorgeous view and walks from the door. This was our 4th stay at Squire Cottage and it never fails to delight. The house is quirky and interesting and such a pleasure to stay it. All the furnishings are comfortable and the beds are excellent. The kitchen is well equipped, although obviously coronavirus restrictions mean there is slightly less than usual. However the pre-stay information was very clear about this. Easy parking and access. The back garden has been improved and is really fabulous, especially for breakfast!
Becky and Peter are delightful - very helpful but never intrusive.

Squire cottage is very isolated and that was exactly what I wanted, so quiet day and night and beautifully dark. Surrounded by open countryside and farmland, plenty of walks for all levels. The cottage is spacious and comfortable I would recommend it to anyone who needs to step out and recharge for a while.

Thank you, it is very quiet here until you actually stop to listen. Then you hear the birds twittering away including a rather noisy woodpecker, the teenage buzzards and kites complaining that Mum and Dad aren't feeding them any more. Then there are the sheep, the cows, occasionally the dogs, the cockerel and the puttering of a tractor. On certain days when the wind is in the right direction you can hear the train whistle from the other side of the hill! Yes, quite quiet really!

We stayed at squire farm and absolutely loved it what a lovely feel you get when staying there. Sat outside every evening looking out to the Shropshire hills, pure bliss. It was like being in your own nature program. The house was lovely with tonnes of character and should imagine would be cosy with the fire lit. It is isolated with owners cottage opposite but owners were very discreet and it was isolation that I wanted and I loved it. Nearest pub a few miles away close enough if you wanted to eat out now and then. Becky the owner left us fresh milk, sourdough bread, eggs and butter which I thought was a lovely touch. Thanks Becky for allowing us to stay at squire farm.

Thank you for your kind and honest review. The track to the farm is under constant abuse from 'white van man' and post office vans. They ignore the deliberate speed bumps and drive up the track far too fast which, when it is wet, has the effect of spraying the stones off the road as well as the water. Peter is continually refilling the holes and levelling the middle, while making the speed bumps more lethal! However, people reading this should note that I have an Audi A1, a tiny little car and we get up and down the track safely providing the bumps are negotiated slowly. There is no need for a 4X4.

A very relaxing week away for a "dad and lad" duo. Warm welcome from Peter and Beckie (and dogs!) & nice to have a home-baked loaf and farm eggs on arrival.

Really enjoyed the colourful bedrooms and staircase art - pretty unique and memorable. Comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Not really the time of year for sitting on the patio, but enjoyed the odd 30 mins here and there during the week, would imagine it would be ideal during high summer for an evening beer/wine or two.

Our open fire-making skills improved considerably during the week and plenty of firewood available in the barn.

Good walking nearby and from the cottage door and good advice from Peter re pubs and meals out.

Perfect peace and cosiness abounds...

A range of leaflets, maps are available and add to the warm welcome. Additional info from the owners led us to a healthy walk to the impressive Caer Caradoc, the historic Hill Fort just off the doorstep. Shropshire is understated and still wonderfully low on traffic. Loads left to explore and a cottage to return to.

We had a wonderful short break here in August with our 10 year old and large dog. The cottage was hidden in a tiny village with the most beautiful views. We had walking paths from the door. The cottage has an eclectic mix of furniture and furnishings with appliances straight out of the 80s - but it kind of works. It’s cosy. Everywhere was scrupulously clean. We had hot weather but enjoyed a small fire at night in the incredible open fire place. My daughter liked putting out the horses at night and cuddling a very soppy farm dog! Peter, the owner lives close by and was always very helpful. We had a great stay.

Quirky cottage, beautiful countryside - and birdsong. Lots to see and explore locally and further afield - there are walks out from the cottage and Ludlow is a 30 minute drive away. Peter and Becky were great with any queries I had. Had a wonderfully relaxing 10 days.

This was our third visit to Squire Cottage - nine years had elapsed since the last but it was as lovely as ever. The location is beautiful - in a quiet, unspoilt valley with little through traffic, surrounded by farmland, and with newborn lambs this Easter. The cottage itself is very special - it feels very ancient but has been modernised in all the right ways to make it warm and comfortable. Easy drives to Ludlow and Church Stretton - a great base for walking and to explore Shropshire and dip into Herefordshire and the Welsh borders. Highly recommend.

We (2 adults and a dog) spent a few relaxing days at Squire Cottage. The location is very peaceful with spectacular views from the windows. The cottage is very cosy and well equipped. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The welcome pack of milk, bread, butter and eggs was very much appreciated.

Our hosts left us a lovely welcome back of fresh bread, butter, milk and eggs, together with fresh flowers. The cottage is very old, but has the modern comforts of central heating and a great shower. There is a huge open fire, we were warm without this, but it's very appealing.

The surrounding countryside is tranquil with interesting and lively villages and good pubs to explore. Such beautiful countryside.

I can highly recommend Squire Cottage.

An ancient but comfortable cottage in an idyllic situation with close beautiful views of the valley and surrounding hills. The interior is attractive - open plan but homely downstairs, original and colourful decorations on the landing and spacious comfortable bedrooms. A place to just observe the wildlife or explore the hills and historic sites, not least the iron age fort crowning the valley just half a mile away.
The owners were most welcoming.

Squire Cottage is a haven from the stresses of the modern world. From the moment we walked into this charming period cottage to the moment we left we felt more relaxed. The lack of mobile reception and internet far from being a problem, was the perfect digital detox.

When we arrived on the Friday afternoon the cottage was ready for us, with fresh flowers and bread on the kitchen table and a basket of logs next to the fireplace. Peter and Becky were the perfect hosts, never intrusive - but we had the feeling they were always available if needed.

The downstairs layout was perfect for 2 adults and 3 dogs, being open plan we could all keep an eye on each other no matter what we were doing. The kitchen is well equipped and had all the essentials. The view from the kitchen window almost made us ignore the dishwasher and wash up by hand...but only almost.

Upstairs the bed was large and comfortable, and the heating kept the room temperature at an ideal level despite the first tinges of autumn cool. The shower was a pleasant surprise having a pressure unknown in other cottages we have rented.

Outside, was ideal for late night walkies, and so quiet. Each morning and evening the sunrise and sunset streamed along the valley creating perfect photographers light.

The cottage is ideally located for exploring the glorious countryside. Knighton, and the bizarre Harry Tuffins was convenient for shopping, but there are numerous other places for the serious foody to explore.

All in all a wonderful break - and a great introduction to Shropshire.

we (2 of us) had a lovely peaceful stay in February. A lovely cottage and a great place for both walking and relaxing 'at home'. Left to our own devices but knowing our hosts were on hand if needed worked well. Lovely welcome breakfast in the cottage when we arrived. Some great walking in the area too.

It's always nice to unravel the mysteries surrounding old buildings, it's even better to have the privilege of living in one and to have the opportunity to experience the slice of history which is Squire cottage, even if it's only for a short while.
We found the surrounding area peaceful yet interesting, offering plenty to do on the one hand or just allowing you the space to do nothing on the other, if that's what you prefer.
The cottage contained all of the paraphernalia we seem to need these days for comfortable living, plus a few extras to make life that little bit easier, all wrapped within its quirky and engaging form. The large open fireplace, low doors and creaking floor boards all help to keep you gently reminded of how things used to be but with enough comfort to enjoy it.
Our hosts were most attentive and friendly, offering advice and information about things to do and places to go not to mention their speedy rectification of the odd infrastructure glitch, all very reassuring.
We would not hesitate to make a return visit or give our recommendation to others, in our opinion the cottage was good value in every way.

Thank you for your lovely review. There is so much history in the area and it is exciting to have some of it on the doorstep! We can only vaguely imagine how a large farming family lived in the tiny cottage, which for two is big and for four on holiday, not small. But six or seven?! It was a pleasure to have you here to stay and look forward to your next visit!

We love old beamy cottages with inglenook fireplaces and Squire Cottage fulfilled all these in spades. It was very comfortable and well equipped, but, at the same time slightly querky, which we liked.
The location is stunning with some amazing walks from the doorstep, and Becky and Peter were the perfect hosts, helpful but not intrusive. There is also lots of helpful info about things to do.
As a holiday cottage we couldn't fault it.

A wonderful deceptively large cottage, really felt that we had stepped back in time but thankfully with modern conveniences. A rare find to be able to enjoy total silence apart from mother nature and no phones..bliss. Becky welcoming so too Jack and Scully. Had our door open every day as the weather was kind during our stay and the dogs often very politely tiptoed in to say hello! Basil our JRTerrier happy to make new friends.
Stunning views from kitchen windows and all around. Great base to explore Shropshire.
I prefered blue settee as found other chairs a bit too upright.

Thank you for your kind comments. The beauty of a holiday cottage is that it doesn't start with the clutter of ordinary life and space can be shown and used to advantage. As you say, it is very quiet and peaceful here, apart from the cockerel (he has a companion now and young ones growing to challenge him), the dogs (thankfully not too often) and the usual background of birds, stream, owls, guinea fowl and other daily rackets!

Thank you for your review; yes, it's a shame I didn't get to meet you, though I did have a nice chat to your husband. It is partly the result of living on a farm and having too many interests - we are often doing other things - or recovering from doing them! Thank you for bringing the problem of the bed to our attention. I had a look at it and it seems the base is starting to collapse; it is about time we found a replacement. We often welcome being told about things like that; they are not necessarily obvious when cleaning in a hurry.

A perfect get away.

If you like peace and tranquility and lovely old biuldings then you couldn't choose anywhere better. We were welcomed with homemade bread, a bowl of free range eggs and butter. The surrounding countryside is pretty and great walking country with footpaths and walking routes galore. There was a good selection of maps and walking info in the cottage to help us plan our day. The lack of phone signal and internet makes Squire farm the perfect getaway from a hectic life. If you like daily updates on face book or are constantly on your mobile or you like everything on your doorstep eg shops/ pubs etc then Squire farm wouldn't be for you. For us and our two dogs the cottage was ideal.
Just one thing I missed is maybe a bench in the grassy area behind the cottage. Somewhere to drink my morning coffee and watch the lambs and admire the view from.

As to the bench in the garden, we have outdoor table and chairs, but the weather, up until now hasn't been conducive to sitting outside! I'm sorry - I should have realised that you needed something to sit on outside - I was probably too taken up with the sheep and lambs!!

The access track was extremely waterlogged and pot-holed but we had been warned. The cottage was a little cool but again we had expected it considering the time of year. We were glad to be able to have our two dogs with us but wished the lawn at the back of the cottage was enclosed so that we could let them off lead for short times. However we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was a convenient base for family visiting whilst still being 'away from it all' We hope to go again!

A unique cottage full of character, very well equipped and in a peaceful location ....... we very much enjoyed looking out over the fields and watching buzzards build their nest. The welcome pack of eggs, milk, bread and butter was very much appreciated as was the plentiful free supply of logs for the fire. We did have a little 'hiccup' with the heating but that was resolved immediately and we were soon cosy again! So nice it was dog friendly and she loved her walk up the hill each morning.

We just came back to Cardiff after a wonderful full week in Squire Cottage. We have been there in all 4 seasons and it never ceases to be stunning and inspiring. Our 4 year old enjoys wearing her wellies and visiting all the animals on the farm. Becky is always happy for us to join her on her feeding rounds. My husband loves nothing more than creating fires in the huge open fireplace every evening whilst sipping whisky. The surrounding villages and towns all have something unique to explore. We especially like Jolly Frog restaurant, Tuffins supermarket in Knighton (closest mobile signal by car), and Aardvark books in Brampton Bryan. You will never regret a stay at Squire Farm and it is likely you will become regulars like us once you experience it. The hosts Becky and Peter are lovely and always helpful and open to feedback or suggestions. Don't miss this place!!

A week in the prettiest valley in Shropshire with no phone signal. Utter bliss. Wonderful walks from the door, although some of the stiles require gymnastic ability, with the walk up to the prehistoric hill camp one to remember for ever. Comfy. Well, not glamorously, equipped. And a huge open fire.

We had a fantastic stay at Squire Farm with our two dogs. Ideally placed to visit lots of places in England & Wales - Elan Valley dams & reservoirs were fantastic in the late afternoon sun. The cottage was very spacious for the three of us & the dogs, well equipped and comfortable. There are lots of walks for the dogs (and us...) - the only thing missing was an enclosed garden so we could have let the dogs outside off the lead. Loved the decoration upstairs - would definitely recommend it and hope to stay again soon.

Thank you for your really useful review. We look at the cottage every so often and wonder how best we could 'enclose' the garden without separating it from the front of the cottage and the entrance. However as we have some work to do on improving the garden, we will definitely look at making it enclosed.

Beautiful house in a lovely location, Walks in every direction from the door including one up to a magnificent hill fort. Challenging cycling country with steep ascents and rapid descents which our 10 year old struggled with.
House comfortably accommodates four people with a large impressive fireplace. Due to the weather we made use of it most nights. Logs obtained freely from a nearby barn.
The welcome pack was appreciated. The owners lived in an adjacent property and whilst were available for help were not intrusive.
Birds nested in the eaves and walls of the house. Saw red kites most days.
Many good quality pubs and restaurants within an easy car journey. The White Horse at Clun deserves a mention (following a short but tortuous bike ride) with wonderful food and beer from their own micro brewery.
Peace and quiet was guaranteed due to the absence of wifi and mobile reception.
Stokesay and Powys Castles worth a visit.

We love the cottage. We have been 4 times, which is a reflection of the enjoyment we take from our time at Squire's cottage. A warm and friendly welcome from Becky and Pete; a well appointed cottage with homely charms; an idyllic location. Thanks again.

There is a certain feeling that overcomes you as soon as you start up the drive to the cottages. It is a sort of warmth, belonging, awe, cosiness and immediate satisfaction. The feeling won't leave you. You know you have arrived at a place you will never forget and most likely return to. The cottage itself is very spacious, well equipped, clean and uniquely decorated. The tedious attention to detail is obvious. We are a family of 3: myself (American) and my husband (Welsh) and our daughter. She was very young the first time we came (just finished our 6th stay) and it is amazing to watch her get more into and excited about each successive holiday at Squire Farm. She now calls it 'our farm'.
