Cedar Cottage is a superb holiday home in picturesque Bourton-on-the-Water. With spacious, contemporary interiors and a relaxing enclosed garden at the rear, this is a wonderful dog friendly cottage to share with friends or family whilst exploring the North Cotswolds.

A friend and I recently stayed 2 nights at Cedar Cottage. On the face of it this should have been a pleasant stay and whilst we enjoyed our short stay in terms of meeting up after not having seen each other for ages, we were both pleased not to be staying any longer. The beds were comfortable and the toilets and bath were clean, as was the kitchen in terms of immediate things such as utensils etc. However the house had the feel of somewhere where attention to detail was slipping and the house needed a deep clean.

The soap dispenser in the downstairs locker was full of mold and therefore unhygienic to use and cannot understand why this hasn't been commented on my previous users as it had clearly been there some time. We left the said dispenser out with the guest book for the cleaning company to rectify. The majority of the other soap dispensers had been watered down hugely making it more difficult to use and appears really penny pinching.

There were numerous cobwebs around the house with a particularly large one that could be seen in the main bathroom and appeared they had been there some months, demonstrating the lack of attention paid to this house.

The one pillow I used had blood on it when I removed the pillowcase upon leaving and this pillow was without a protective cover that could be washed. I didn't check the others.

The larger radiator in the kitchen wasn't working which was needed during the cold snap when we were there leaving the kitchen and dining area very cold and not possible to sit and eat.

The extractor fan in the ensuite didn't go off even when the light was off meaning out was noisy all through the night. In addition the shower tray in the ensuite needed a good scrub.

The placing of throws on the sofas to cover the seat pads does again reduce the appearance of the place making it look quite shabby and were quite frankly a nuisance to constantly adjust.

I sent an email to the cleaning company on the second night who were our contact for our stay so that our points would hopefully be corrected for the next people stying but I've not even had the courtesy of a reply.

Finally, in the 20 years of staying in holiday cottages I have never stayed in one where there was not even a pint of milk in the refrigerator to welcome us.

As I said in my title, all rather disappointing and neither my friend nor I felt we had value for money during this stay and do not feel that we would book tis place again or recommend to anyone.

Jane, we are delighted to hear that you found the property bathrooms and kitchen utensils to be clean and to have comfortable beds. The housekeepers sadly couldn’t find the moldy soap dispenser, however as a precaution the hand soaps have been replaced. Whilst the housekeepers do their best to remove cobwebs, they very rarely catch the spiders that create them, so the cobwebs are quick to form. The pillows have been inspected and no blood stains have been found so this may have been a mark on a pillowcase which will have now already been laundered. The radiator in the kitchen is working, it may have been that a previous guest had turned the thermostat down. There is an isolator switch for the extractor fan so this could have been switched off at any time. Throws are placed over the light-coloured sofa seats as a precaution to protect the fabric from being marked. Your email to the property manager had unfortunately gone into their junk folder and they apologise for not spotting this sooner. We do hope that overall, you enjoyed your time catching up with your friend and exploring the Cotswolds!

Lovely property. Absolutely spotless. Short and pleasant walk into the village. Comfortable beds and a nice garden that is totally safe for dogs - even Houdini dogs like ours! Will definitely come back. 11/10

All good, Nice and clean, with everything we needed for the weekend.

Location is OK - a 20 min walk into Bourton, but very convenient for Hawstone Brewery.

Instructions and access were all straightforward too.

Our stay at Cedar Cottage was overall very pleasant experience but a few things let down what was a very nice place.
It advertised having a slow cooker but it didn’t have one and the caretaker never came back to us on this point.
It was missing basics like oven gloves, black bin bags, etc. There was a single frying pan which for a property accommodating 6 people is unrealistic.
Finding out information about the house before booking was painful - relatively simple requests for cot size that was provided and stair width (due to stair gates not being provided) had to be requested numerous times before finally being received a couple of days before the stay.
The above aside, the house was lovely, beds very comfortable and we had a lovely holiday.

The house was great and was exactly as it was marketed.
I find it odd that Stay Cotswolds take the booking and funds, and yet as soon as the booking has been made any issues, arrival departure times, problems with heating or probably any other issues, Stay Cotswolds tell you to contact the cleaners (MyClean)!! What added value does Stay Cotswolds offer the owner of the property and renters if they just market the properties and take the booking......but nothing else?
MyClean were very helpful and communicated well.

You always wonder if the house will look like the pictures and this one really does. We had a lovely stay with our family and a dog. The kitchen was a perfect size and all the bedrooms are good sizes as well.
The green was just right for the family and the dog and a nice sun trap. The location is great just a short 10minute walk into the centre of the village as you can take a short cut down the footpath. It was lovely to do this in the evening to walk the dog and see Bourton-on-water a bit quieter as sometimes on a hot day it can get very busy.

Lovely property with everything you would ever wish for provided! The best way I can describe it, is that the quality of the things there, plates, pans, knifes, mop, iron, tv etc is the same high quality you would have at home. We went during a heatwave and the bedrooms were hot as most modern insulated houses are, so if the temp is in the high 20s I would recommend bringing a fan with you! Its about a 10 minute walk into the stunning bourton on the water, is near a shop & has parking for 2 cars 3 at a push. Definitely visit Hawkstones brewery, about a 10 minute walk too and surprisingly only £5 a pint! We have family that live on a nearby estate so will definitely be back!

A lovely home away from home, which had just about everything you could ask for in a holiday home.

It was a little noisy first thing in the morning, being on the edge of a small industrial estate, that said there was very little noise for the rest of the day.

Other people have commented on the distance into the village, we are in our 70’s and it took 13 minutes at a leisurely pace to get there. It took even less time to get to Hawkstone brewery, (but maybe a bit longer on the way back)

This was a lovely house but although says Bourton it’s 1mile from town which meant driving and no taxis available due to Cheltenham festiva

We were 4 adults & dog,would have found the sleeping & sitting arrangements tight if there had been 6 of us.The third bedroom barely had enough room for a double bed.Great having a utility room,garden would have been fine if needed.Parking for 2 cars down side of house easy.Despite being on the edge of Bourton Industrial estate we found the location great,walks galore.footpaths in every direction.Easy stroll into Bourton, 15mins, great pubs.Most dog friendly place we have ever visited.We were all aware of the traffic noise early in the morning,would certainly not deter us from booking this property though.

Everything about the cottage was perfect, just for us it was slightly out of way but that was because my husband had a hip replacement 4 months ago and was not 100%.

Had a great stay in cedar cottage spotlessly clean and very well equipped great for a family to stay in the only problem was with the rubbish when we arrived the bins were completely full recycling was full with someone else's rubbish and recycling we were there for Christmas so there was a lot of our own with no where to dispos of it had to a recycling centre and bring waste and recycling to it was not ideal was only problem would recommend cedar cottage top rental I rent 3.4 times a year in cotswold one of the best paul

Cedar Cottage was just right for our short break. It was very well equipped and comfortable. The layout worked really well as we had 2 dogs with us. The utility room was a big asset.

Great property in fantastic location. Very responsive when we couldn’t work out the heating - our fault we tried to make it too complicated. Allowed us a late checkout. Very well stocked with all the basics and lovely garden

We had a fantastic holiday and the house itself is lovely and well equipped. The garden is a mess, overgrown and neglected. It is stretching credulity a bit to say '15 minute walk to the village,' double that time would be more accurate! We tried it once and used the car after that, adding to the traffic problems in Bourton!

Cedar Cottage was so comfortable and the standard of everything is excellent.
The owners had equipped it to a very high standard and had thought of everything.
We had excellent nights sleeps in super comfy beds.

My husband and I stayed here with my parents and their dog. It was perfect and very homely. It had everything we needed, was clean and very comfortable.
The village was a 15-20 mins stroll, which my parents struggled with but we could drive in 3-4 mins and finding parking wasn’t an issue.
We loved exploring the village and nearby villages (Cirencester and Stow-on-the-wold). There was a perfect array of shops, pubs and restaurants in Bourton to find something to suit us all. The contact before hand to make arrangements was prompt, friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place as a great base to explore the Cotswolds.

The house size and amenities were excellent and one of the main reasons we chose the property however there are some minor areas for improvement. When first arriving the welcome email gives a code for the key safe but doesn't mention anything about the alarm or the code for that which surprised us on arrival. Then we couldnt find the key for the back door and garage as it was meant to be on the hook by the back door according to the book but wasn't there. Thankfully Darren was on hand to help and we did locate the keys. We had our dog with us and the garden was perfect and enclosed however my only disappointment was that the rubbish bins were just left full in the garden. Not ideal when the dog is out there and also not the nicest sight as soon as you walk out the back door. Another small niggle was that I personally found the mattresses quite uncomfortable. That being said there were a lot of positives as well. Kitchen was well stocked with cutlery, utensils etc and was perfect for the short stay. Bathrooms were very clean although the showers weren't that powerful. The location itself was a really good base to explore being a 15min walk into bourton and 10min walk over to the hawkstone brewery. Overall we had an excellent stay and the suggested improvements should be able to be easily rectified for future guests hence the 4 out 5 star review.

Cedar Cottage has everything you could dream for! A superb 3-bedroom cottage in Bourton on the Water, comfortable, stylish and well equipped. It is a fantastic base for exploring the Cotswolds. Three generations and our beloved cavapoo had a fabulous long weekend in the warmth and comfort of Cedar cottage. Excellent restaurants and takeaways are nearby and the selection of provided books and board games kept us entertained. Comfortable beds and relaxing bathrooms; a warm restful lounge and a wonderful kitchen and dining area, you could not ask for anything more! We will definitely be returning for a longer stay next time.
