Tyas Cottage comprises an 18th century stone cottage and adjoining barn. It comfortably sleeps 6 in 2 twin bedrooms and a double bedroom. In addition to its own small, paved garden it is also next to a large shared, award-winning garden that includes a mill pond, stream and waterfall. The quality of the furnishings, mainly antiques, can be appreciated from the photos, but special mention must be made of the Georgian mahogany 4 poster bed with its wooden carved ceiling. There are varied walks directly from the cottage. Most favoured are to follow the stream down through the valley of Merrydale to the lively and charming village of Slaithwaite or to visit a secret reservoir on the moors (via the ancient pack horse route though the woods). We welcome pets, it is great for children and has an EV charging point.

Tyas Cottage is a safe haven and a blissful retreat from the busy-ness of life. The cottage is beautiful, clean and full of character and history. The gardens are stunning, the vision and handiwork of Vicky and the hanging eggs make for a peaceful place to rest with only the sound of the birds and stream and maybe a bit of Debussy floating down from the owners cottage. Tyas cottage is perfectly positioned for walks. We walked along the river into Slaithwaite where there is delicious wood fired pizza and then along the canal to Marsden. It was a bonus not having to drive anywhere. The Rose and Crown is only a 10 minute walk along a stoney and in places, muddy track and worth it for a drink looking out over the hills but do take a torch. Vicky and John were the most wonderful hosts, helpful, attentive and interesting. I would highly recommend this beautiful place.

We loved our stay at Tyas cottage. We only used the car to do a shop at the Farm shop. You can do plenty from the door, local walks, canal walks, walk to the train station and head to lots of places, we visited Manchester and used the trams.
The cottage itself is remote but we loved that, good hike to the local pub, take your torch and wear good boots. The cottage is filled with family heirlooms, a fantastic wood burner and everything you need for a relaxing stay. The hosts live opposite and are lovely and very knowledgeable, they stay out of your way but are around if you need them. We will definitely be returning.

Family of four, two dogs and grandma all had a wonderful mini holiday.
Such a perfect retreat- stepped out of the world and back in time.
Peace and tranquility. Stunning garden. Charming property. Superb hosts. Breath-taking location.
Dogs in heaven with the river, garden and woodland.
Boys loved the biking opportunities.
WiFi connection top marks from teenager.
Daughter adored the magical fairy pods.
Grandma a queen in her four poster bed.
Steep access as warned- but even I coped fine!
Thank you

This was our second time in Tyas Cottage and it was just as enjoyable as the first. The scenery all around is quintessential Yorkshire at its best and the cottage has a unique rustic/antique aesthetic that makes you feel right at home. The owners
are genuinely lovely people who will make you feel very welcome. We still highly recommend Tyas Cottage for a relaxing getaway.

Great Cottage and Location. Victoria and John are really friendly. Fantastic selection of games kept us entertained round the fire through the foul weather! The cottage was lovely and warm.

My friends and I enjoyed a lovely relaxing stay at Tyas Cottage. What a beautiful cottage in a great location, we enjoyed a very picturesque walk into Slaithwaite and had a lovely dinner at the Rose and Crown, although we didn't brave the night walk up the hill! Vicky and her husband were very welcoming and were there if we needed anything. The cottage had everything you need for a self catering break.

An annual 'girls' get together that didn't happen in 2020 so all 4 of us were very ready for a catch up, a weekend away, some walking sharing of news, gossip and ofcourse, raising a glass. And what an absolute treat Tyas Cottage was! Beautiful listed building, stunning gardens though they were entering the Autumnal slow down. Nestled in the valley, so quiet and away from any light pollution Tyas Lane itself is very narrow, steep in places and the stone setts quite slippery on a rainy day. Access might be a challenge if you have a particularly large or wide vehicle (we were fine in a Mini and Fiat 500) or if you are unsure of manoeuvring in tight spaces. It may not be a venue for you if you are unsteady on your feet. Vicky and John were very welcoming and informative though not at all intrusive.
Slaithwaite (Slawit) with some lovely independent shops and gorgeous bakery is easily accessible along the river and you can walk either way along the canal.
We had a lovely time and would highly recommend it.

In glorious sunshine or rain, Tyas Cottage was a magical place to be. Nestled in a valley within a stunning garden full of interesting nooks to sit and places to explore. Vicky and John were the perfect hosts and made us all feel very welcome. The cottage is bursting with character and really comfortable and well equipped. Nearby Slaithwaite is a absolute gem. Lots of thriving independent shops. The burgers at Rumpus were fantastic. Fuel up at the Handmade Bakery and walk along the canal to Marsden and beyond. Great links to Manchester, Leeds, York by train too. We visited Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the Hepworth Wakefield, but our favourite art finds were the Clay Mill in Slaithwaite and the superb Sculpture Lounge in Holmfirth. We would love to go back and explore more of the area and stay at Tyas Cottage again. Thank you Vicky and John

We used Tyas Cottage as a picturesque location for our feature film, as well as for accommodation for some the cast. Tucked away from the world in a beautiful little corner, it's a great place to get away from everything. The cottage is beautifully furnished, in many cases with genuine antiques, and has a lot of unique and interesting features, such as a spiral staircase. There are a lot of scenic walks close by, including down into the canal-side village of Slaithwaite. The owners really supported us while making the film and offered us a discount on future bookings. Genuinely lovely people. We highly recommend Tyas Cottage.

The cottage, gardens, countryside, and hosts are a delight. We had a fantastic and relaxing break away from it all, didn’t even use the car while we were there. Great walks in different directions of very different characters, all direct from the front door. A wonderful place to stay if you get the chance.

My wife and I had a lovely week at Tyas cottage, a real hidden gem and the perfect place to relax.

From the booking confirmation, right through to the end of our stay communication was very good and the process was seamless. On arrival, we were met by the very friendly and helpful owners, but then we were left to get on with our holiday, which is exactly how we wanted it (although they were on hand to answer any questions).

The cottage was spacious, clean and well equipped with thoughtful extra touches making it so welcoming. The large kitchen / diner had everything you needed. The master bedroom was lovely and the lounge was warm and cosy. Located in a peaceful, woodland setting, it was a great base for walking and taking in some of the great Yorkshire views. A real home from home with stunning landscapes and tranquil surroundings. We'd recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all. It is also perfect for those having to work as the wifi signal was excellent.

As a family of six we spent two nights at the exquisite Tyas Cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities in the cottage were ideal and everything was clean and well prepared. We all loved the freedom to roam in the gardens and in the woods. Our hosts were friendly, kind and helpful. We were made to feel part of the family! The instructions were better than we have ever come across in a self-catering cottage!

We loved every moment of our stay here. The initial winding (narrow) drive down to the property was fun (not scary - we managed it fine with four bikes on the roof), and the cottage itself is beautiful, spacious, pristine and homely. Our kids (8 and 10) were enthralled by the landscaped gardens (especially the swing over the river), and us adults particularly enjoyed the private outside space that the cottage offers. The owners were very discreet but friendly and gave us all the space we needed to feel like the place was ours. There are numerous amazing walks that can be made from the gate of the property, including a beautiful winding route through the valley to Slaithwaite, and a short steep climb up the valley to the local pub (which has amazing views down into the valley).

I was down in Huddersfield for work and decided last minute to bring the family down and rent a cottage.

I wasn’t disappointed at all. Secluded cottage with loads of walks to pubs and towns and lots of adventures to be had with young children.

The host is very thoughtful and accommodating and we felt right at home from the start.

Highly recommended.
