We were very lucky to have booked this cottage. It was absolutely perfect for a half term break with the family. The cottage it’s self had everything you could have wanted and more. I just hope everyone respects the nice finishing touches the owners have provided. The only minor negative thing is the road in and out of the village and the actual road down to the cottage. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone. The ferry to Dartmouth from the beach is also a good day out. It’s worth every penny!
We found everything we needed in the cottage & the instructions very clear & welcoming. A true haven away from the crowds & friendly village.
Covid destroyed plans for my entire family of 6 adults and two infants going to Tuscany. Glad , in the end , that it did as we found this great secluded farmhouse. Clean as could be wished for. comfortably accommodating us all. Great terrace and nice garden. Very well equipped . Only minor quibble the mattress in the second double bedroom was a bit hard, but after a good ay out it did not prevent us sleeping. Nice sitting room . A safe location if young children involved . I hope we might return -if the owners who were generally about, as it is their home on their farm, will have us!
What a special house, and what a wonderful view! The open plan downstairs area and the incredible garden and view, such a wonderful property and super special garden - a real pleasure to stay there.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at No 8 and hope we can rerun next year. Very clean welcoming and comfortable
Had a very pleasant stay in late September. The apartment was beautifully furnished and decorated, cosy and warm. We were able to sit on the deck in late afternoon sun. A bit of a walk uphill from town but we soon got used to it - and a good way to work off a big dinner!
We have recently returned from a delightful stay at Windjammer . The apartment more than lived up to the photos and description, in both the brochure and website. It is a lovely spacious apartment, very comfortable, with fabulous views. It feels like a home to live in not just a holiday 'let'. We would certainly be happy to return and are happy to recommend it, plus it has the advantage of being in a very beautiful part of the country. Marica and Robbie Pilkington
This is lovely, well presented cottage right in the heart of Dartmouth. In this location, I expected to get a bit of noise from the surrounding properties but in fact it was remarkably quiet, especially at night. It couldn't be more conveniently placed to reach every shop and restaurant in Dartmouth and we loved it. Even in its pared-down Covid-safe state it was welcoming and comfortable with everything we needed to make our stay easy and fuss free. The open-plan living arrangements make the cottage feel roomy downstairs and there's more than enough space in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Very co...more
Never having visited Dartmouth I was not sure what to expect. However, I instantly fell in love with the town and the house. The house is well situated and well equipped (now I sound like an estate agent) but it is. Everything you could wish for is at you finger tips, or a short walk away. I did not touch the car for 1o days. The house is very comfortable and homely, in that it is welcoming and feels like your own home. I would recommend booking. You will not be disappointed.
Wonderful property and garden, for us to spend as a family of 4, something a little special to celebrate 2 birthdays over the Christmas and New Year period, with the restrictions of 2020 it was ideal. We love the beach all times of the year and they did not disappoint! Thank you, would love to return and see Dartmouth in summer.
A cottage that suits my wife and I. It is ideally situated to explore the South Hams or just relax in a beautiful Devon village. It is a village that is off the beaten track and has charm and luckily none of the typical seaside attractions. If visited yearly you can feel part of the village and enjoy the village life. Exploring the South Hams and south Devon coast is easy from here. The cottage has everything that we need and is ideal if you want friends staying for a time. The garden, although it has an open aspect has views over the river Dart and a very secluded sun trap at the bottom. It...more
We arrived on Friday afternoon, directions were good and Captains cottage was easy to find and parking very close by. The Cottage was spotless and had everything we needed, the shower is amazing and loved the kitchen. The beds were very comfortable and although your in the centre of town we couldn’t hear anything from the street at night. Dartmouth is a stunning, quirky little fishing town, my children absolutely loved crabbing, the cottage is a stones throw from the little harbour (boat float). Very easy to get the ferry across to Kingswear, then the steam train to Paignton. We will defi...more
We stayed at number 20 and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The house itself had everything we required and was very well equipped in the kitchen. We loved the quirky style of the house and it fitted with us perfectly. The house was very clean also. It exceeded our expectations and will definitely stay again!
Curlew Cottage makes for a good autumnal break, with its cosy living room, stacked with wood for the fire, and it’s airy conservatory with lovely views of the Dart. All very clean and well looked after. Nice kitchen, tastefully modernised. The main bedroom is a little on the small side, but the wonderful outlook on to the river makes up for that. A dishwasher, and heating in the conservatory would add to the appeal.
Really nice cottage. The white carpet in the liivng area is badly stained and this detracts from the quality of the cottage.
Our stay in Pridhams was very comfortable. It had everything we needed and more. There was an excellent welcome pack and even a box of goodies for our dog. The enclosed courtyard was a much enjoyed suntrap. The owners live next door and were very helpful but not intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend Pridhams to others.
Location of this cottage is great plus the view when enjoying a glass of wine from the raised patio is superb.
This property looks very small from the outside but opens up to an exceptionally large property once you walk through the front door. We stayed over Christmas 2020 period, and were welcomed by a wonderful Hamper and a bottle of Champaign. The property is on three levels, four if you count the upper bathroom. It was very clean and all the necessaries for a comfortable stay were supplied. The lower, ground floor is split into the Kitchen and Dinning area with a small seating area outside the kitchen. The first floor has a large lounge area with a bay type window that gives beautiful views over ...more
Having stayed in a number of cottages in Dittisham over a numbed of years No 1 Rock Cottage has proved to be the most comfortable and well appointed. While there is no 'off street' parking with the cottage plenty of 'road side' parking is available in nearby Riverside Road. We are looking forward to a return visit.
Ollies cottage is in an excellent position behind the Red Lion pub and shop. The house is specious and we’ll orientated. Bathroom good although shower pump a bit noisy. Kitchen well equipped and spacious. We have stayed here before and probably will again
We had a great week staying at Bayards during what must have been the worst week for weather. Home comforts were the order of the day and we had this and more from this well equipped well maintained apartment.
Had a great time away. Barnfield was a excellent place to stay, with all the comfort needed to relax and enjoy the local area
We arrived on the Saturday and was bowled over with the view and the apartment was very clean and modern, just how we like it, we had fish and chips from Rockfish and a bottlE of wine for evening meal all was well. Next morning the boiler was alarming and we had no hot water!! But we must give praise to Dart Valley Cottages, they done their utmost to sort this problem out including an emergency plumber, conversing with the owners and offering us a lesser alternative but come Tuesday the boiler died and needed major work so we decided to cut our holiday short and go home we were very disappoi...more
We have stayed in Dartmouth many times so were familiar with the location of the cottage which does not have parking but is only about 2 mins walk from the main car park. Was a bit of an issue with the living room being on the ground floor with kitchen above but we knew this prior to booking, however trying to get the heating right took a day or so of trying different settings on the radiators as it was boiling upstairs and freezing in the living room. The house was largely clean but the radiator in the top floor bathroom is a towel rail type with loads of rails and it was very dusty as was t...more
We enjoyed our stay in this idyllic hideaway set in a beautiful valley. The beautiful landscaped garden is an added bonus.
We have stayed in dozens of properties in our time, including several in Dartmouth, and this was one of the very best. Beautifully maintained and cleaned, well- equipped, with excellent communication before the visit and clear details of what to expect, how to deal with rubbish, parking etc. The owners and all involved are to be warmly congratulated. The position, of course, is outstanding, with marvellous views, all the town facilities to hand and walks from the door.
The Loft is an excellent flat in a very central location in Dartmouth. The property was very clean when I arrived and was well appointed with amenities. I would certainly recommend the apartment and look forward to staying again when I return to Devon.
The house was lovely, very clean, all the facilities we wanted. View was peaceful and the outside seating ideal in the hot sun. Perfect place for breakfast and afternoon tea. Could see thousands of stars sparkling in the sky at night and hear birds singing in the day. Must return to Dittisham. Local pubs were welcoming and quirky and Anchorstone cafe was superb.
Having stayed here before, we knew what to expect. On the way up to the cottage in the car, we prayed we would not meet another car on the steep and narrow road. Once unloaded, it was difficult to find a parking space in Dartmouth. We were lucky as someone was just leaving as we entered the town's one and only car park. Failing that, it would have been a short drive out of town to the park and ride car park. With so much to do in and around Dartmouth (walks, boat trips and the steam train) we never used the car once we'd arrived. The cottage has wonderful views and we spent several afternoons...more
Very well presented and comfortable. Good location although country lanes a little unnerving. Easy access to surrounding locations.
Our third visit, and again very enjoyable. The standard, improved by our second visit, has been maintained - although sparse because of Covid precautions - and the location is as marvellous as ever. Luckily there was no ice when we were there, and we have a 4x4, but it would be advisable to park on the road and avoid the steeply sloping drive if bad weather is forecast!
Pretty, well located and comfortable cottage. Quiet with lovely garden. I enjoyed v much. Details needing attention: The wooden floor was clean but needed another rinse as was sticky. Shortage of toilet roll, washing up liquid & bin liners - I had to buy all of these & was only there for 1 week.
This was an attractive, comfortable, well kept family home and accommodated all our needs. Great location for coast and country walking or touring and warm and welcoming to return to. The friendly local shop/cafe provided basics (and some useful extras like kindling for the living room stove) but come prepared food-wise as East Prawle is in the depths of the Devon countryside! We didn't use the pub but, like the shop, it's only a few minutes walk away (and probably mostly out of earshot on a music night). The roads are often narrow and windy and a bit like a maze so gps definitely an advant...more
Great location, well appointed and so comfy. This was our third visit and we will be back. Highly recommend the Nook.
This is a truly beautiful property Perfect for a large family or two small families. Superb views roomy and spacious accommodation Sadly we could only stay a short time due to lockdown but we will be returning in 2021. Very much recommended.
Swilly Barn was very well presented, clean and stocked well with essential items such as pots pans and crockery, I throughly enjoyed seeing the alpacas from outside the window and watching them graze, my only issues were the internet is a WiFi extender from the main house which is slow at times (however this is expected as the location is remote), and it can be difficult at night to navigate the steps as it is so dark even with the security light. The location is down a one way track so be prepared, but it offers stunning views of the Devon countryside.
Blackness Barn was perfect for our family get together. Plenty of space for everyone and we loved that we could walk out of the house and explore locally. The house is very comfortable and spacious and well equipped.
Our week at Kessel house was a very comfortable one. V. Nicely appointed, and well thought out, it was beautifully clean with comfy beds. Well located about a 10 min walk down to the lovely harbour - which means uphill on way back but was easily manageable! Nice size garden, could do with a little tlc but was lovely and sunny to sit in, and we wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
Beautiful spot with lovely view of the Dart estuary. Shame it's on the ground floor! Not easy to find! We arrived in the dark and pouring rain. Porch door was closed so not obvious that you have to open the door to access the porch. It just looked like the front door to a house. On the wall outside the door to the porch it said 38 Dartview, rather misleading. Clearer instructions would be helpful. Such as open door next to sign 38 Dartview, where you will find the key safe. Car park is quite a walk from the flat, which was fine for us but not sure the distance is made clear in the infor...more
We had a lovely week in this cottage. It’s very comfortable and is a real home from home. The views are incredible. Driving around Dittisham is somewhat challenging!
Everyone had a most enjoyable holiday at Sabine House and look forward to a return visit in 2021. The weather was not as good as last year, sunny every day. But we were very fortunate that it only rained a couple of days - but not all day. The children love Dartmouth as much as their mother did when she was a child. We all have wonderful memories of Dartmouth and the surrounding area. The house is in such a wonderful position, not far to the cliffs, car ferry, able to go crabbing out side , sit and enjoy the scenery without having to go far, walk into town easily for any shopping. An...more
The house has amazing views , much enhanced by the huge Windows everywhere. A large garden, at the bottom of which is a gate that leads you directly onto the beach. We were there when there were restrictions in place , so the cottage was a little bare but still cosy and well equipped . Would highly recommend. There were only two of us but am sure there is plenty of room for several more people.
We enjoyed our stay at 31 Crowthers Hill which has a lovely view of the estuary from the top of the garden. The only things which would have provided more comfort for the week would have been a working radio and a cafetière.
We wanted to stay in Dartmouth and, most of all, we wanted to have a river view. 2 Lee Court has that; for the views from the huge windows were fabulous. The activity on the river was better than watching TV. There were only 2 of us so we had plenty of room and everything was there for our comfort. The kitchen was well equipped and we were warm and cosy. However, the front bedroom had a 'fusty' smell which did not disappear despite opening the windows regularly. In normal times we would have changed to a different room but due to Coronavirus didn't want to give the cleaners extra work. ...more
We know the area well and needed a house which could accommodate 5 plus dog and two cars and be within easy reach of sea. Hill Top provided all that and more.
The fact that the garden is not adjacent to the property meant that we didn't use it . The steps up are quite steep for older or infirm people. The property itself was comfortable and clean and everything worked.
We had a 4 night stay in this property which is a reverse level style barn conversion situated in a quiet cul de sac which had lovely grounds and views across the River Dart. It was dog friendly , spottesly clean and had plenty of amenities. Situated in Dittisham which was a great base to explore Dartmouth and Greenaway house which are a short ferry ride away from the village jetty. A couple of great pubs in walking distance including the Red Lion which is a couple of minutes walk away.
Enjoyed our week at Spindlewood. Plenty of space for the family. Heating temperature was a bit hot - possibly due to the boiler? Plenty of cooking utensils, pots and pans. Plenty of cleaning gear so we felt perfectly safe. Location was good - village was lovely - even though it rained every day - and we enjoyed the view. Will try and re-visit in the future.
Not COVID safe due to too many soft furnishings particularly too many cushions on the beds. Left over condiments and food left by previous occupants. Unable to turn heating down, far too hot.
Lovely property in great location for exploring South Devon and Dartmoor Needs a bit of updating which I understand is on the horizon but for the rental being charged really good value Would easily recommend to others.
This was our third stay at Stella Maris and we enjoyed a comfortable and pleasant. It is apparent that the cottage is a home and touches such as a well stocked kitchen and lots of dvds and books for us and the children are very appreciated.
A great location in the centre of Dartmouth, however a quiet street with no passing traffic. Walking distance on the level into the heart of Dartmouth. Onsite parking is great in the centre of a town However the garage space is very tight for a large family car . Passengers will have to exit the car prior to parking in the garage. This can be a challenge if parking is not your forte. Stairs to access the kitchen , lounge area. Open plan area with dual aspect windows , providing plenty of light. Small, decked terrace to the rear. Bedrooms small but adequate. Two bedrooms did not have light bul...more
lovely place to stay. Very comfortable. A bit tight for four of us but really lovely place. nice to be able to take dogs.
All very good indeed. Cottage had everything we needed. Mattress on main bed needs renewing as old and very soft. Super break with lots to do nearby. Perfect for dog owners.
Enjoyed our stay at Hawke Cottage on the golf course. Found the cottage to be very spacious downstairs with modern kitchen and nice furnishings. We could not work the TV with the extra channels as there was no manual. We had no heating one day but this was sorted - a maintenance man turned up to ask us as other guests had a problem too. We did not make use of the facilities at the hotel as we wanted to keep our distance. Although the weather was rather wet we went out every day exploring the area. Dartmouth is very pleasant but we imagine it could get really crowded in the summer. All i...more
The cottage is nicely decorated and an easy walk to town. However it is in need of some TLC, the garden was in a poor state, there were weeds around the front and brambles coming over the dining room roof which scratched in the wind. We did have an issue that was resolved by the management company, which was solely due to bad housekeeping. Finding a parking space was OK but probably difficult during the summer. Wouldn't use this cottage again.
Because of Covid19 all ornamentation and excess kitchenware had understandably been removed We had not been updated on where to find the house key or the new housekeeper's contact number but this was luckily resolved We reported that there were some broken tiles in the guttering and that the dishwasher seemed to need attention The fitted fridge door didn't close properly and there was a constant buzzing noise But the cottage was warm and comfortable with plenty of hot water , in a good position in the village of Dittisham with parking which is a bonus here!
We enjoyed our stay, it was very clean and spacious as there were only 2 of us and our small dog. The fact they accepted dogs was one reason why we went. The property is on a private quay-side (with only 7 other houses and a pub) enjoying wonderful, uninterrupted views of the Dart Estuary from the two front bedrooms, dining room and lounge. There are 5 x 3foot beds and 2x childrens bunk beds in 2 and a half bedrooms. Bathroom is accessed VIA 2 of the bedrooms. There is a rear garden/sundeck. *Warning 1 - I am only 5ft 7 inches but have never smashed my head on the ceiling and beams so many ti...more
The property was located at the top of steep hill and parking very limited to one small car. The house is very dated and could do with a bit of investment but clean. The wow factor is the view over the town and water which you would never tire from.Great walks from the house and all with a view. Substantial building work next door which did not impact us but should be mentioned in advance.
Great location, some running Repairs required. On suite shower not functioning. Back garden very untidy.
We had a lovely week in the cottage, we parked the car and that's where it stayed, bus train and ferry was our mode of transport for the week, it was really good not having to worry about parking.
Thank you for a great week in Dittisham - first time we visited was 2003! We love it. Just wanted to share a few bits I have thought of during the week. Holly cottage was great! Location, new bathroom, new carpet upstairs, washing machine and dryer are great. The added outside toilet a bonus (didn’t use the shower but having the extra toilet was good). Good to have the dishwasher, new oven and hob. Cottage was always warm and cosy but despite the instructions on the wall and in the book - we could not adjust the heaters. All ok as it was quite mild and very warm upstairs. One o...more
I have alread contacted Dart Valley Cottages about the disgusting state of the mattress at Ferry View. We had thought that the mattress sagged a little but had decided to put up with that as the view from the room was lovely. However, we found out how bad the mattress was on our departure, as we stripped the bed (as per Covid instructions). The mattress was truly awful, stained and dirty. No-one should have been expected to sleep on it. There was no mattress protector on the bed as there apparently should have been. It truly turned our stomachs. We also found a temporary wooden post holdi...more
A characterful, cosy cottage set on steep, narrow lane close to picturesque Dittisham. Good standard of facilities offering the opportunity for a pleasant break. Drawback was problems of access and easy walks which may not suit anyone with mobility issues
