Charming holiday homes in Devon with tons of creature comforts and dazzling eccentricity. Fingals is magical, a jumble of a place in a hidden valley in one of the loveliest parts of south Devon close to the River Dart estuary and the coast.
Have been coming to Fingals for over 30 years and always prefer to come here where you have all the conveniences and facilities but none of the fussiness of most hotels. Great for kids that want to enjoy the swimming pool and games room but also close to towns like Dartmouth and Totnes. Richard and Shelia, who run the place, are very hospitable and considerate.
We stayed at The Barn while attending a pottery course at next door Coombe Farm studios. It couldn’t have suited us better, literally 20 seconds outside our back door to the studios! We loved the quiet and the quirky comfort. Yes it’s eccentric, and yes there’s the odd cobweb (it’s a barn!), but that suited us fine. The beds were comfy, the bathrooms were clean and the showers powerful, the upstairs lounge was huge and it was a delight sitting on the balcony and listening to the birds and the nearby stream. Sadly we didn’t have time to use the pool or the games room, but they looked great. Tha...more
We enjoyed a magical weekend at Fingals at the end of the summer. The wisteria suite was perfect for us, our two children and our dog, and had everything we needed. Richard and Sheila looked after us so well, helping to book our children in to swim in the indoor pool (which kept them entertained for hours), recommending excellent local pubs for lunch and dinner and fabulous local walks for our hound. We were lucky enough to visit during the Dartmouth Regatta and enjoyed a boat trip on the river dart. The children loved playing in the gardens at Fingals and learning to play tennis and of course...more
Fingals is a different type of accommodation and may not be up to everyone's taste. The accommodation is slightly tired especially the bathrooms, pool area and gym but the beds were very comfy and the kitchen was well equipped. The gardens and tennis court are fantastic. The premises are full of unusual art, statues and decor and there are book/games and suggestions for walks and activities. Sheila and Richard are very helpful and attentive. We went for lovely local runs and walks, played pool, swam in the pool, played tennis and visited Ditttisham (book a table at the Anchorstone Cafe) and Da...more
Barberry Brook was warm and peaceful. The bath is quite difficult to access but the bed was comfortable and there is a lovely stream running outside. The location is beautiful so can recommend this for a peaceful stay in a lovely part of Devon.
