As the Gitcombe Estate appears through the dense trees that border its long drive, it’s clear you've arrived somewhere very special. The setting, in its own private valley, is both magical and instantly relaxing with beautiful rural views stretching as far as the eye can see. Recently listed in The Times' 50 Best Cottages for Summer feature, the cottages themselves are stylish, luxurious, and, despite their high level of sophistication, wonderfully child-friendly. The location is pretty special too being less than five miles from the bistros and boutiques of the yachting town of Dartmouth and roughly the same to the award-winning and beautiful bay at Blackpool Sands. The eight stylish cottages boast luxurious bathrooms and designer kitchens and share facilities that could rival a five star hotel with an elegant pool house complete with indoor heated pool, Klafs sauna and steam rooms, outdoor sundeck with hot tub, outdoor pool, tennis courts and pre-bookable beauty treatments. Gitcombe is as enchanting for kids as it is for their parents thanks to the carved wooden playground, indoor soft play room and opportunity to play spot the moo cow across the valley whilst splashing about in the outdoor hot tub.

We had a great week in Yennadon cottage in mid November 2023. The cottage was lovely and cosy and we had enough space between two adults and a toddler (18 months).

The place was really clean and everything you need to make it a home away from home is provided. The fire is a lovely touch too.

The swimming pool is great and a nice temperature so our toddler had no problem using it. The soft play area is an excellent addition too for everyone to burn off some energy!

The grounds are immaculate and great for a stroll around, while the surrounding area is gorgeous. We took trips to Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands, Paignton Zoo, etc. If you need any essentials too there are supermarkets just a 10 min drive from the cottages.

We will be definitely looking to hopefully go back again in the future.

My family booked out the Gitcombe estate for a reunion. We could have not asked for a better experience. The owners went out of their way to provide outstanding customer service, the location is spectacular and the accommodation top class. I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Our third stay and as good as ever. Yennadon is a glorious end of terrace that gets the afternoon and evening sun. A compact cottage but it is comfortable and has everything you will need! Love the facilities - the outdoor pool was warm in June, quite magnificent! We will be back, thank you Philip and Emma it really is becoming a little bit like home each year we visit!

This was our second visit to Gitcombe and it was wonderful to be back! We relaxed very quickly with the help of the peaceful, beautiful grounds, the pools and especially the hot tub overlooking the most glorious views.
Thank you again for such a wonderful stay, we’ll
see you next year.

We had a lovely week at Gitcombe staying in Yennadon Barn. The site was perfect for children and an absolutely beautiful location. We used the indoor pool and soft play area every day and the booking rota mostly worked well. Yennadon was lovely but we found the living area a touch small for two boisterous kids (we did suspect in advance it might be cosy for us but it was the only property available). Would have been fine in summer with the doors open to the balcony but a little restrictive in Autumn. Otherwise it was lovely although a little attention needed in the kitchen and one of the bedrooms as the cabinetry/wardrobe door were a little worse for wear. Mere trifles though and I would highly recommend a stay here. We hope to be back next year! Thank you.

Beautiful setting, excellent leisure facilities, and very well equipped cottage with some pleasant walks from the door step. Situated quite close to Dartmouth giving access to shopping and trips via the river Dart. We loved our terraced area especially on a clear night to enjoy the stars. Thank you to Peter and Emma and the hard work it must take to upkeep the cottages and grounds to such a high standard.

Yennadon and indeed the whole estate are excellent. The cottage is very well equipped. We were left a welcome package of foods that was lovely. An extremely informative information book is provided. The swimming pool and tennis courts are a great addition, the terrace a lovely place to have supper when the sun is shining. The estate is quite obviously looked after with great care and pride. Whether you are a couple on your own or with a young family this is an outstanding place to spend a few days. Plenty of good pubs and restaurants nearby whether in Dartmouth or in the countryside.

Great as ever, we love staying here; and the owners have upgraded some facilities during the pandemic, so kudos to them. The team is always a delight to interact with and welcome touch is a lovely addition. The lower comfort score is simply that the mattresses feel quite old.

We had a lovely stay at Yennadon barn. The property is located in the countryside with beautiful views all round and walking paths leading straight out it.
The barn was very well equipped, we had everything we needed to cook meals and toddler equipment such as a high chair, plastic cutlery and a stair gate.
The shared facilities are great and although we had to book our pool slots due to Covid restrictions, we were always able to find a spot.
I would definitely recommend it and return in the future.

Great location in a quiet wee dell. Very close to Dartmouth and the beaches of South Hams, with Dartmoor only a short drive away. Peter was very welcoming and helpful during our stay, the accommodation was is very comfortable, with all the white goods and bits and bobs you'll need for a 7 day stay. They even supply windbreaks for the beach, toys for the kids, wood for the log burners. The pool and hot tub were run through a booking system, which gave a benefit of having the space to yourselves. For us the peace and quiet of the location was welcome after the hustle and bustle of the city. We will be back!

Our stay at Yannadon Barn at Gitcombe was perfect. The beautiful landscape and excellent service together with the Devon tranquility made our trip unforgettable. The hosts were really helpful and friendly, especially Emma, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The facilities were excellent and the cottage was cosy yet modern. We cant wait to go back and make the most of the spa facilities and the rural walks. We highly recommend a visit!

Gorgeous place, surrounded by natural beauty on every direction. Ideal location, everything seems to be 20-30mins away (Salcome, Dartmouth, beaches, Pennywell Farm, Paignton zoo, etc). We used both superb swimming pools on a daily basis. Ideal for families, with indoor and outdoor playing areas, tennis/basketball court and toys/equipment to borrow. Lots of lovely local farm shops and very well equipped kitchen for cooking. Ate on our balcony on a daily basis overlooking the beautiful countryside. Very friendly and helpful host. Will be visiting again.

We stayed in Gitcombe (Yennadon) as a family of four. The Estate is beautiful and very well maintained. Our children loved both the indoor and outdoor pools, hot tub, play area and tennis/basketball courts. It would be enough to just stay on the grounds. There are stunning beaches nearby and we were lucky with the weather. The accommodation itself was comfortable and well laid out. The suggestions for restaurants, beaches and other activities were incredibly helpful. Our children are begging to go back again next summer!

We stayed at Gitcombe in Yannadon Barn for just 4 short nights in July 2019 - but what an amazing time we had! The site is so well kept, and our barn had everything that we needed - we even had our own private terrace to sit out on each evening.

The indoor pool and hot tub where perfectly situated with views to die for, and we spent a couple of lazy mornings there, enjoying time to de-stress and unwind, chilling out with a good book in between a swim or two!

The wonderful Maltsters Arms pub in Tuckenhay provided us with the best Sunday roast I think I have ever eaten, and it's perfect for whiling away the hours with a good pint or chilled glass of wine.

The steam railway trip from Paignton to Dartmouth provided a great day out - we ate some of the best fish and chips ever in the Seven Stars Inn in Dartmouth (Dartmouth's oldest pub) - a glorious day.

Would we return to Gitcombe? Like a shot!

We had a lovely time at Gitcombe with our two small children. Both swimming pools were a hit and mum loved the steam room and sauna.
The kitchen was well equipped as was the rest of the cottage and very well set up for small children.
The views from the terrace were beautiful too.
Easy to get to Dartmouth and Totnes for days out.
The wifi was not reliable but that wasn't really a problem for us but may be if someone had to work/email a lot while away.
Would definitely recommend a stay here.

We loved our stay at Gitcombe. The place is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is to the highest standard and we were very sad to leave!
The indoor pool was a huge hit with my daughters, great it didn't have a deep end as they could play safety.
The grounds were brilliantly maintained and the cottage was immaculate with luxury touches.
My highlight was laying in the hot tub looking out over the stunning countryside.

Set in idyllic countryside. Walked each morning from the property. We were left to ourselves which suited us but received text messages offering assistance if required. We met Peter O'Brien in the grounds on a few occasions and he was very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is of a high standard. Very clean and comfortable. Peaceful. Splendid views from all windows. I used the pool and hot tub every evening and was mostly the only one there (first week in May). We travelled each day to our chosen activities; beaches, Nat Trust properties, boat rides, shopping. A lovely break. Would definately go again.

Really nice location and Rodney, Peter and Emma very helpful, it felt like we were staying with relatives who kept a respectful distance but were on hand when we needed. Sauna and Steam room were an added bonus as was he unlimited wood for log fires. Whilst the weather wasn’t the best we had great time visiting local sights and keeping our active 4 year old amused. Local eateries Maltsters Arms and Rockfish had lovely local food. Nice touches in the cottage and a store cupboard with items such as tennis racquets, crabbing equipment and holiday essentials you usually forget meant a lot of thought has gone into making families stays easy and entertaining.

We had an amazing stay at Gitcombe House and boy were we lucky with the weather. We spent 3 days on the beach and a bit of surfing at Bantham Beach which was amazing. (35minute drive)

We loved having the indoor pool………in the pool at 8:30 then sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and all before breakfast. Then tennis then beach. A wonderful escape for all of us.

The accommodation really is of the highest standard. It has everything you need and all great quality. The location was equally stunning. We will be back. If you fancy a run from Gitcombe house I suggest you get fit first!!! The only way is up.

Thank you so much for a wonderful break.

We have just had a wonderful family holiday and get together at Gitcombe House Country Cottages, renting out two of the cottages, Maristow and Yennadon Barn to accommodate the party.
The setting is idyllic and was perfect for our needs and the wide age range of our party. The cottages are superbly decorated and kitted out and have a comfy, cosy, welcoming feel.
Peter and his staff were so helpful. I cannot speak too highly of the place. Brilliant!

Lovely time at Gitcombe. The facilities were excellent and the cottage was very well equipped for a break with a young child. Two very minor points which would have made our stay closer to perfect.... a bigger bed would have been nice and the sofa was fairly uncomfortable which didn't cause too much of an issue in the summer but may in the colder months!
