A newly refurbished pretty cottage with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It is located at the Colonsay harbour and has views over the harbour from the upstairs bedrooms. It has WIFI.

Great location and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We had a super week on Colonsay and the brilliant location of Harbour Cottage meant we were very handy for all the local amenities! We would especially recommend the Seafood evenings at Colonsay Pantry on Wednesdays and Saturdays - the seafood Platter was excellent!
The walk to Balnahard is long and not particularly easy, but the beach is truly worth the effort and we’re so glad we did it! Kiloran is also a wonderful beach and very easy to access! The walk over to Oronsay was lovely, but would have been a lot easier if we’d had wellington boots!
The bathroom at Harbour would benefit from a bit of attention particularly the shower area as it is a very gentle flow and the screen seems to leak however carefully we positioned it!

Second visit to Harbour. House very well placed for shop, hotel, & pantry. Comfortable on the whole, a few annoying issues though, the shower soaked the floor every time it was used. The toilet seat is in a disgraceful state & cannot be kept clean, it just needs a new seat! Also the cooker in the kitchen was filthy, we did our best to clean it up. On the plus side, comfortable lounge & beds.

My wife and I occupied this property for two weeks when the weather was sunny.
It is situated first left off the ferry ramp in the heart of Scalasaig and consequently, is very well located for all the facilities which the village has to offer e.g. Colonsay Hotel, Pantry, Waiting Room Gallery, Bookshop, Wild Colonsay Distillery and the well equipped general store. The general hubbub of a ferry port always provided entertainment.
The garden appears secure which could be important for children and pets. From our point of view you could always enjoy the sun somewhere in the garden from dawn to dusk. There are only four seats at the outdoor table and no foldaway garden chairs.
During our stay we only used the downstairs part of the house but the upstairs bedrooms are accessed by a very steep stair which could pose a problem for children, the infirm or people with mobility issues.
Despite the sunny weather we found downstairs to be cold. We only used the storage heater in the living and turned all the heaters off during our second week. We never used the panel heaters or the convector switch on the storage heaters. Despite this our heating bill was £50 for our stay so be warned if you are in this property during inclement weather. You may be better using the solid fuel stove?
The kitchen is well equipped but very small. Indeed, it could only be comfortably occupied by one person which could present problems if you were catering for six occupants. The 4g EE wifi was very good although we only had two devices.
Everything in the bathroom worked well.
You should also note that the £20 electricity allowance is per booking irrespective if you are staying for one, two or whatever number of weeks. We thought this inequitable.

Harbour cottage is in great location next to the pier and near the shop. It’s a short walk to the hotel too. Colonsay in May is beautiful with bluebells, wildflowers including orchids everywhere. We heard the cuckoo all the time and even heard a corncrake in Colonsay house gardens. No midges yet so a great time to visit.

This cottage is lovely and very comfortable for 2 adults and up to 4 kids.

Excellent location and the kids loved walking to the shop every day and pottering about on the stony beach opposite, and the mound between the cottage and the Pantry. Garden is big and completely fenced in for pets which is a big plus.
Being able to walk to the hotel and also with the Pantry on the doorstep, eating out was very easy.
Wireless worked fine, and kitchen was well enough equipped. Dryer in the porch was also a big bonus.
Upstairs is quaint and comfortable, albeit staircase is narrow and steep so we used the drying rack as a barrier in the night!

My only word of caution is on the heating bills. Make sure to keep an eye on both meters as the guidance only lists one. The heating from the storage heaters can get very expensive if you are not aware of the usage you consume and the rate per unit.

We stayed at Harbour Cottage for the first week in November 2022. Booking was very straightforward and our request for a bag of coal was promptly addressed by the Colonsay Holidays staff. The cottage itself is well equipped with most anything you'd need in the kitchen. Being quite an old building, it's to be expected that the premises are not well insulated, so the coal fire was necessary to stay comfortable in the evenings. Given the alarming hike in energy prices, we were warned beforehand about the rising cost of heating the cottage using the electric storage heaters. We didn't use the upstairs bedrooms but the downstairs double was very comfortable. The location is excellent being right by the Scalasaig harbour as well as close to the shop, the hotel, and a restaurant, all within easy walking distance. If going out to eat at night, be aware that there is a dearth of lighting along the roads in town so a torch is a necessity if walking. The wifi connection is stable and reasonably fast, a must if wishing to stream a movie or two in the evening. All in all, a comfortable, well-equipped place to stay when enjoying the rural delights of Colonsay.

We were very comfortable in Harbour Cottage and found it to be well equipped and spacious for our needs. The stairs to the upper floor are steep. It is well situated for the hotel and the hall.
The metered heating was charged at 41p per unit - the same rate also applying to the storage heaters.
Worth checking the current rate as it would be easy to build up quite an additional charge.
Disappointed to see the rental is increased by over £200 per week for the same period next year.

A very comfortable and well equipped cottage well suited to a short holiday. The overnight storage heating in the living room very effective. The rubber on the shower glass needs immediate attention to prevent the floor being covered with water. The "comfortable" chair in the ground floor bedroom needs to be replaced.

We stayed at Harbour Cottage for our first visit to Colonsay and really enjoyed it. The location is great, close to the shop and harbour. Although there are only sea views from the upstairs rooms we loved being able to walk out onto the pier so easily.
The cottage itself was comfortable and clean. Some of the furnishings were a little worn, but the beds were comfortable and warm duvets were provided (needed in the chillier months I am sure!) . We did not need to use the heating as we were blessed with unusually warm sunny weather.
We would definitely be happy to come back to this cottage again

On arrival had to use half a pack of Detol wipes to clean coffee table and kitchen surfaces. The cottage needs a facelift. Seal in the bathroom needs replaced, sofa was grubby. Did not feel we got value for money especially given the 25% increase in rental price from 2020. Colonsay is a lovely island so definitely worth a visit but would not stay in Harbour cottage again.

Colonsay is an absolute gem.

We have vilsited Colonsay around fifty times which really speaks for itself. We’ve stayed at most of the cottages and the hotel and have always had a wonderful holiday. The walking is a joy and anyone who loves wildlife and flowers will be in their element. The one shop on the island is well stocked and the hotel provides excellent meals including the best oysters in the world provided by Andrew who owns Colonsay’s oyster farm. We are back in June and can’t wait!

We had a great seven nights at Harbour Cottage. We hired bikes and had six sunny days - three very warm, so spent much of our time cycling & walking and eating & drinking in the garden. When the evenings turned cold the anthracite stove made the double aspect lounge (with amazing sunset views) very cosy.

Fantastic property right next to the harbour. Had everything we needed and very comfortable. Stairs to the upstairs bedrooms were very steep but this was noted in the description of the property so wasn’t an issue. Well stocked kitchen and lovely living room with a stove. Lovely garden which was well used as we had fabulous weather. No TV but that suited us as we were out exploring and enjoying the beautiful beaches and everything the island has to offer. Close to the hotel and the Pantry which were both really good and a very well stocked local shop. Our hosts were excellent and responded quickly to any emails. First class and we had a brilliant time.

Harbour Cottage is quite small - the kitchen is quite cramped and the living/dining room is also compact. The main bedroom is more spacious. The upstairs bedrooms have limited headroom but are otherwise fine, though our children found the beds a bit lumpy and uncomfortable (the double bed in the main room was fine). The shower works, but is quite feeble (limited water flow). The kitchen equipment could be improved - e.g. we found only 3 tumblers for water, so had to use wine glasses as well. Having a fully enclosed garden is a boon for dog-owners. The location is very convenient for the ferry, shop and hotel. We also appreciated the selection of books and games that are provided for rainy days!

This is a very lovely cottage in a lovely place on a wonderful island. You are pre-warned about the steep stairs/steps to the bedrooms upstairs so should take it as it comes. The kitchen is tiny but perfectly adequate. We would definitely book again.

Harbour cottage is, no surprise, at the harbour - and very close to the shops and cafe, and a short walk to the hotel. It is also hidden away behind a barn, so quiet and private. A lovely situation, on an absolutely wonderful island.
It is comfortable and warm, and has good Wifi, comfortable beds and a bath, a nice little area of garden with table and chairs.
The furniture and fittings are not new, and rather tired. How the electricity bill is calculated is rather obscure.

Harbour cottage is in a great location near the ferry terminal. Very close to the shop, hotel and Pantry cafe/takeaway. The area around the cottage is very quiet and is not overlooked by other properties. The coal fire kept the living room very cosy. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are, however, very steep and may be a problem for young children or people with restricted mobility.

Perfect for a small family.

A perfectly located cottage, great for children, with a lovely, sheep-free garden. Only thing to be aware of is the steep ladder staircase which is difficult for young children, especially at night time as the bathroom is downstairs.

Harbour cottage is perfect for a couple (plus dog); more than this might find it a squeeze, with the one bathroom and a tight kitchen. The upstairs bedrooms are accessed via a very steep open staircase, unsuitable for small children or older folk, or those with impaired mobility. The cottage was beautifully clean and well-equipped, with wi-fi, though no television or radio (not a problem for us). We were lucky with the late summer weather and were able to make use of the sunny and secluded outside seating area for breakfast and evening drinks. The garden is well-fenced and the good-sized lawn was perfect for the dog to scamper in. The cottage is a stone's throw from the harbour and quayside, which gets busy once or twice a day when the ferry comes in, but because it is set back off the road behind a barn you never feel overlooked and it is always quiet. It's also very exciting to go down to the shore and watch the CalMac boat appearing in the distance and then manoeuvring into place; the quay comes alive briefly and then returns to complete calm. We had our best nights' sleep for ages this week; the bed (downstairs double) was comfy, the dark was total, the silence was utter and the temperature was just right. The village is incredibly well-provided with facilities - shop, post-office, gift shops, wonderful cafe ("The Pantry"; ask Gavin for his cooked breakfasts) and just along the road the amazing Colonsay Hotel, which would be an asset to any village, let alone one as remote as this! The bar, restaurant and reception areas are all welcoming and restful; the food was lovely and the service outstanding. We particularly enjoyed the regular "Music Evening" event, where all-comers turned up with a variety of instruments, including voices (to which we added our own) and hunkered down for an evening of ad hoc music-making. The high point of a delightful week on this very special island.

Our first time at Harbour in 11years of visiting Colonsay. Good place to stay, almost too close to civilisation by island standards!
Beingh close to Hotel, Pantry and shop was good for a week of poor weather.

Our 3rd trip to Colonsay, so must be good. This time at Harbour Cottage which is perfectly located, right in the centre of the “action” in Scalasaig. Not that there is much action, but sometime the sheep forget what time the ferry comes in which can lead to grid lock in the harbour car park. Easy walk from the cottage to The Pantry (50 yards), The Village Shop (100 yards) or The Colonsay Hotel/pub (300 yards). All excellent and the centres of the social life on the island. Only advice about the cottage is that when they say steep stairs, they mean very steep. The upstairs bedroom are a good size but definitely not for elderly/infirm.

We chose this cottage as we were travelling without a car and it is very handy for the ferry terminal and all facilities. The cottage is very private and well furnished, clean and tidy. The kitchen is small but was well equipped and fine for just the two of us. There was no TV (as expected) but a few more games or perhaps a radio or some form of music player would have been good if the weather was poor - but luckily it was fine for the whole of our week there. We only used the downstairs (double) bedroom. The two upper twin bedrooms are accessed by steep steps that I wouldn't like to use frequently - so anyone intending using those rooms for very young children might want to take extreme care. We hired Archie's bikes to help access the many walks we did without too much road walking. For those who are beach lovers - most are a few miles away - but the lovely and hidden Queens Beach is just a mile walk over the other side of the monument. All in all a great holiday on this magical island.

We've stayed in the past in many other cottages all over the island and decided we wanted a more central location this time. Harbour Cottage was perfect, especially in view of the appalling weather. Visits to the shop, post office, Pantry and hotel were easy and being near the Village Hall for the music festival concerts was a bonus.
We found the cottage comfortable and well-equipped. Instructions for using the wood burner would have been helpful but Wattie came to the rescue and from then on we had a cosy room. Our last visit to Colonsay was 23 years ago so the provision of washing-machine, drier and microwave were a novelty!
We'll be back!
