We were part of a large group of nearly 40 of us - and the accommodation was just perfect for all of us - split into the different Houses. Turnip was great for the 6 of us. Warm, comfortable, clean and the lovely cake and bottle of wine were much appreciated.
The only additions I'd make are: wooden spoons and whenever you next need to buy mugs, different colours are good, so that you always know which one belongs to who !

Very comfortable accomodation. Always warm and cosy. It had everything we needed for our week's stay. The hot tub was brilliant and was checked each day by staff. Great to lie there in the dark and look at the star.
Fridge a good size. Freezer had three big draws and held our weeks worth of frozen items.
Bathroom and showers very clean and plenty of hot water.
Car parking good.

This was our third year of a relaxing weekend staying at The Turnip House.
Communication and customer service was excellent. The Turnip House was immaculately presented, as always with some lovely welcoming touches (the lemon cake was delicious)!
We thoroughly enjoy our yearly weekend chilled break and would recommend Westhope Country Retreats to anyone.

Beautiful property, rural location, cottage equipped with everything you need, well maintained hot tub and really useful to have a games room with a pool table on site, our children loved this.

We stayed as a family of six, 4 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of space for us all. The open plan living, kitchen and dining area was ideal.

Also Chloe and Fiona who manage the bookings and property were quick to respond to any queries and super helpful.

A lovely stay for 4 of us and the dog, great amenities, comfortable, homely and cosy with a hot tub each night, even in the rain. We enjoyed the games room and even burnt some calories in the gym! Great walks from the front door and a trip in the car for lunch out and a walk around Ludlow - thanks so much, we will recommend and be back

7th year visiting this lovely cottage and area of Shropshire, always so relaxing!
What can I say that I haven't already said?
Cottage is always clean and comfortable with the added relaxing bonus of a hotub. The staff are always to hand with any queries via email or phone should we need anything.
The views on our doorstep are just fabulous, it's a very peaceful area. Our 2 dogs love the walks there, as do we.
The gym is well used by our teenage son. On the other hand, we , the parents are far too much in holiday mode to use it!!!
Thanks again Turnip House ❣️

The Turnip House was clean and tidy when we arrived. A lovely welcome pack included a homemade cake, chocolate, tea, coffee, milk and a bottle of English wine. Very thoughtful.
The cottage was a little tired, but well equipped.

We stayed for almost 2 weeks with family and had a great time. The cottage was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed, although we only had a breakfast and a couple of dinners as the local pubs are excellent. The cottage is well positioned with Craven Arms, church Stretton and Ludlow all within a few miles. ( Though the lanes take a bit of getting used to.) The surrounding countryside is beautiful and he yard is a great place to sit and chill.

The housekeeping team were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities available on site were much appreciated and Turnip House was equipped with all our needs.

As a family of 5 we really enjoyed our recent visit to the Turnip House. The cottage was fantastic and had a great shared gym and games room thstvtje kids made use of. The hot tub was a welcoming place in the evening and was well managed by the site team over our stay. Loved the little touches ..... bottle of wine, lemon drizzle cake, jug of milk, bar of chocolate. Also provided plenty of local information and we really enjoyed the Swan Inn for an evening meal. We travelled to Shrewsbury and ate at the Dough & Oil. Really good ambience lovely sourdough pizza. We will be back in the future. One word of advice.... use the provided directions. There is more than one Turnip House locally :-)

We found just a couple of problems there were no clear markings on the oven. And no instructions in the welcome pack.for the oven .
Shower pressure a bit low
Disappointed with TV reception however this encouraged the family to play games.
Hot tub was fantastic and the location was tranquil. The welcoming provisions were great fully received and. Were excellent. A good time was had by all in a very spacious cottage

Lovely stay as always. This was our third visit. We’re getting to know the local area well now.
We did a treasure hunt in Ludlow, very hilly but an interesting place.
Then back to Turnip House, chill in the hot tub, food (not in the hot tub) shower, movie n bed, very comfy and spacious.
Great chilled stay as always

We had a lovely weekend stay. The hot tub was a bonus and ready to use on arrival. The homemade cake was devine and a lovely extra. Just be mindful that your nearest shop or take away is a 20 minute drive and collection only. A lovely way to reset with friends and would definitely recommend if you don't mind being away from convenience.

The Turnip House is cosy, comfy, with nice touches, but spoilt by the close proximity of next door's holiday hot tub which is just the other side of the partitioning fence. The adjoining cottage was occupied by a large family who used it often, especially in the evenings. There was a lot of loud chatter which could be heard word for word in our sitting room and upstairs back bedroom even with closed windows. This we found both disappointing and irritating. Last year we stayed in the Wain House which we thoroughly enjoyed. This year has not been as enjoyable. I spoke to Chloe Nicholson to relay our experience and suggested that management move the said hot tub to the other end of the courtyard. This in turn would give better privacy to all parties.

Fantastically presented cottages in the Westhope, heart of Shropshire, with excellent facilities including a free to use on site gym and games room (pool table 50p a game)

The hot tub was a perfect size for a larger number of people and was checked/maintained daily by the friendly staff

Nearby takeaways didn’t offer a delivery service however both Church Stretton & Craven Arms are a short drive away for collection - highly recommend Jaipur!

A thoroughly enjoyable stay and would highly recommend to anyone!

Excellent place to explore the Shropshire Hills and surrounding area. Fantastic hot tub, comfy beds, a lot of facilities and a nice set up.
Only minor negatives - more like constructive feedback - the cot bed provided had dog hair in it which we cleaned but nice if it had been done prior to arrival. The hoover provided was only used once as it had a really bad wet dog smell when in use. We just used the brush after that. Quite a few spiders in the bedroom but it is the countryside so probably to be expected! The games room was great although the mechanism could be removed from the pool table to make it free and the football table could do with replacing. Top of the cupboard in the two single bed room needs attention. Could also do with a freshen up with the paint, especially on the landing.
However this was a fantastic stay and the wine and cake to welcome us, as well as fresh milk was greatly appreciated. The welcome pack was very good.
We would definitely stay again.
Many thanks!

My 4th visit but 1st to the Turnip House. It suited us well and tbe hot tub was wonderful- clean and warm. Our grandsons loved the games room too.

We felt the property was just a tiny bit jaded (compared with previous visits). We had to clean tbe bbq before use, the dishwasher filters were totally clogged up and even after clearing them the performance was quite poor. We needed a much larger frying pan. The bath mat was far too small for a week and it was very difficult to dry towels in ensuite shower room and the loos didn't flush very well.
But the concept is brilliant and the setting lovely and we had a fabulous week.

A lovely cottage in a pretty complex of holiday lets. The Turnip House sleeps six and we visited with our daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. It was well equipped and there was plenty of room for us all with a large patio at the back to relax in and for the boys to play in. The hot tub was fun to use as well. We all had a very enjoyable stay.

The weather wasn't as favourable as previous years but the cottage was very warm and snug to return to after being out in the fresh air. Everything you need is there and there are some lovely walks right on your doorstep. A beautiful location.

Having literally just got home had the most amazing time in the turnip house all I can say is we'll be back. Thank you for amazing stay ONLY bad thing I'd have to say is the the location it's a bit of a drive from the main road and you could probably do with making the address a bit more clearer we went to the total wrong place and the old fella said people are always coming here thinking it's the turnip house. But we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we'll definitely be back hopefully with more family to celebrate further birthday thanks again.

A wonderful stay in the beautiful Turnip House. Every comfort was taken care of. The house looked lovely, with a Christmas tree decorated when we arrived. A delicious cake, wine, chocolate and lots of supplies were very generously left for us which made our stay extra special. The nature reserve up the road was perfect for the dogs and plenty of places to visit locally. We recommend The Dragon Inn at Little Stretton, dog friendly and great food.

This was our second visit to The Turnip House for Christmas and once again everything was wonderful. Lovely Christmas tree decorated on our arrival to the cottage. Mince pies and mulled wine on the table which was a lovely touch. Plenty of use of the hot tub which was a favourite for all of our party as was the games room. Well stocked kitchen with all the utensils for us to cook our Christmas Dinner. A beautiful setting a couple of miles from anywhere with fabulous walks and plenty of places to visit on your doorstep. We will definitely return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Turnip cottage. The accomodation is very thoughtfully designed and extremely well equipped - so many thoughtful and very useful touches. We stayed with friends and appreciated having the private lay out of the independent bedrooms and bathrooms. The hot tub was fun and an added bonus. Wont hesitate to go back.

The property was clean and tidy but we found the beds uncomfortable and the pillows flat - a set of nice fluffy pillows surely not too much to ask?

Having to checkout at 9:30am was a pain - we’re on holiday with our children why not adhere to the internationally recognised 11ish?

So while nice in every other respect, these drawbacks would prevent our return.

Westhope country retreats did their very best with the shower that was not operational for which we thank them.
We do think that more of a thorough check could be made before our visit, the problem with the shower, and the shower tidy that was unsuitable for that shower identified. The shower room fan did not work, in the Turnip house, nor in Troopers Barn, neither did a light.
There is no point in you asking for our views until we have had notification that our £250 bond is returned. We received notice this morning.

Great place to stay. We enjoyed the hot tub and the enclosed garden was lovely and safe for our dog.
We went to Stokesay Castle, lovely tearoom there.
Ludlow is a great place to visit.
Will definitely be back.

This is our 5th time visiting Westhope Country Retreats and as always its a pleasure to return! Turnip House was clean, comfortable and peacful. The Hot Tub is an added bonus which everyone enjoyed after a busy day visiting sites. Nothing is too much trouble. Thankyou everyone!

We loved The Turnip House at Westhope. The cottage felt spacious and was very well appointed. The welcome gifts were an added bonus. We made good use of the hot tub after our long walks and visits out with the grandchildren. The children enjoyed the games room as a great place to chill out after a busy day. We did find the remote location a bit daunting especially when we met large tractors in the narrow access road but we knew the area was very rural when we booked.
The only downside was the front door lock which was very difficult to open or lock. This may need replacing very soon.

Excellent place to stay. Quiet, comfortable with lovely extra touches.
Visited July 2020 and just had to return.
As in the middle of nowhere. Car required to visit places if that’s what you want to do. Central to many locations.
Or just enjoy the peace and relax. We did a bit of both. Kids loved the games room and chilling in the hot tub. Great place. Will return

I booked 3 properties with Westhope Country Retreats; The Milking Parlour, The Turnip House and The Old Cowshed for my wife's 40th birthday. My party consisted of 19 family members ranging from 3 to 73 and two dogs. Every single member (including the 3 year old) commented on how much they loved the properties. Each property was clean, pleasantly furnished, fully equipped, warm, cosy, welcoming and ideal for families. The kitchens contained all of the appliances and utensils you would expect and more - it's not often you find kitchen foil, cling film and seasonings provided by a holiday accommodation. There were lots of nice touches ranging from the welcoming Christmas trees, mince pies and mulled wine to the little doggy treats. There was plenty of activities to keep the family entertained with the hot tubs, a generously equipped games room and a small gym. Whilst there was no treadmill in the gym, there was sufficient equipment for a good workout and the beautiful countryside provided plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs. The final icing on the cake would have to be the staff who were warm, welcoming and hugely accommodating. There is no cellular signal in the area which can be a pain but the provided WiFi is strong and sufficient for internet calls. I thoroughly recommend these properties and will certainly be rebooking.

From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. This was our second stay at westhope country retreats and it won't be our last. Thank you to everyone from the owners to the cleaners for making our stay here possible. A huge and special thanks to Chloe and Lauren who have been magnificent.
As one holiday ends another starts as we vacate the Turnip house and move into the wainhouse for a week. Sorry Chloe and Lauren, you have to put up with us for another week.
Thank you again

We booked for a much anticipated “girls” break and we’re delighted in all aspects. The cottage had been refurnished since the website photos so even on opening the front door our expectations were exceeded. The standard of the furnishings, cleanliness and welcome pack were spot on and communication prior to the booking was excellent.
The location does mean that generally you need the car - we took a walk on Sunday to the Sun Inn but some of the footpaths were very overgrown and it was 29 degrees so we were ready for the warm welcome and a cold cider on arrival!
I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere lovely to chill out and enjoy the countryside around

We had a lovely stay at Westhope, especially with the hot tub which was very relaxing, our only criticism is that the alpacas are no longer at the farm , but I know that’s nothing to do with Westhope cottages , just disappointing!

It was a lovely holiday home, very clean and very well managed.

Our only issue was the toilet seat in the downstairs bathroom which moved and caused someone to fall onto the toilet roll holder and the fact that there was limited crockery so no ability to save dishes for the dishwasher at the end of the day.

Otherwise a great holiday home.

The turnip house is an excellent property on a great complex. You are aware that there are other rental properties in close proximity but this didn’t spoil our stay. It would be great if you had a large group who wanted to rent several properties. House was clean and well presented as well as being well equipped. The welcome package of wine and cake were greatly appreciated.

Communication wasn’t great as I sent a couple of queries via email before our stay and didn’t receive replies however my requests were taking into account so this wasn’t a huge problem.

Location was great but it was a 5-10 drive down narrow roads in all directions. This wasn’t a problem for us though, we loved the location. There were lots of good walks direct from the complex. It is very close to wenlock edge, literally 200m across a field opposite via a footpath. We enjoyed visiting Long Mind and several good pubs and farm shops in the vacinity. I recommend the steak from Wenlock edge farm shop, it was delicious! If you are arty there is actually an art college within walking distance in west hope which does some fun looking day and half day courses.

The hot tub was a definite bonus and this was regularly checked and serviced. House was comfortable a well equipped. The only quibble was the tv in the lounge which was a bit eccentric always turning on on sky news and you had to scroll through all the channels to get anywhere. But we didn’t come to watch tv so wasn’t a big problem. Shower downstairs was excellent with great water pressure.

I would definitely book again.

2 grandparents, 4 parents and 5 children aged 13 to 6 and 2 dogs: we all enjoyed Westhope Country retreats which are in beautifully and tastefully, also practical, farm buildings and all well maintained. Excellent parking too. The setting is rural and beautiful. Well equipped and the hot tub and the games room with an amazing number of activities were favourites. We loved visiting local countryside ( Caer Caradoc, Long Mynd, Stiperstones) and local attractions eg Acton Scott, Stokesay, Ludlow. Long narrow lanes but easy to get to places. Our one or two concerns were dealt with as soon as possible. Thank you .

We had a great week at The Turnip House. It was a very spacious, clean and well equipped cottage. There was a delicious homemade cake, chocolate and milk on arrival which was great. The hot tub was easy to use and a lovely treat every day. The weather wasn't great so the games room was an added bonus which my children loved as well as many different board games and DVD's to borrow too. We did the Alpaca Experience which is situated next door which was lots of fun followed by an afternoon tea. A great birthday treat! We would definitely love to visit again.

We spent a week at The Turnip House and really couldn’t fault it at all. The cottage was immaculate and everything you could need was catered for including a freshly baked cake on our arrival! The hot tub made our break even better and the English weather was good too! Situated in a peaceful rural location but not far from the towns and villages we enjoyed visiting during our stay. There are plenty of walks right on the doorstep which we enjoyed exploring every day.
Communication before our stay was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage plus any of The Westhope Country Retreats - they all looked amazing!

Fantastic family break after being in lock down. Having had 2 holidays postponed we booked to go to Wales only to have that cancelled too. Determined to have a break we found this gem. From arrival to departure everything was perfect, no one wanted to leave. Exceptionally clean, comfortable and all the amenities you could think of. Friendly owner provided us with information felt more like a friend than the owner. We went on local walks including one with the adorable Alpacas, definately a worthwhile experience. We visited local national trust places and played in the games room. During the eve I v relaxed in the hot tub..
We were that impressed we will be booking a cottage with them early next year.

I booked two properties - Turnip Cottage and Troopers barn for 17 people. Including 9 children. All excellent. I cant comment on the location - storm Dennis and the rain meant we didnt go out much! Only criticism - poor selection of games. Usually in these sort of holiday lettings (we do this a lot!) there's lots of games/dvds etc. so I dont take much and we enjoy something new. Otherwise everything was excellent.

We had 5 staying in Turnip, it was cosy comfortable accommodation. As we were part of a large party of 24 staying at Westhope, Turnip gave a little bit of pease for those who wanted a little down time from the little ones.

The bedrooms were well provided with cupboard space, bathrooms great. The bedrooms upstairs were in the eves and so for the taller people in our party it took a couple of bumped heads before they learnt to duck!!

This barn works very well if you just want a property for a few of you or like us part of a large group. It works well in that you can connect to the milking parlour next door by opening the back gate which makes going between the two barns easy.

Lovely stay on the whole. Spacious clean attractive warm accommodation. A few niggles: no instructions for the oven, the microwave turntable doesn't turn. the upstairs toilet flush is faulty, upstairs twin bedroom, bed opposite window is lumpy, We didn't seek to get these put right, just wanted to get on with our holiday. If the owners had visited us on the first day we could have told them.
Grateful for the treats supplied on arrival, very nice touch.
Would return.

A really good 3 night break with 14 family members in various cottages
Lots of space and good layout.
Cake and other provisions appreciated
We would have liked a bath robe or another towel for the hot tub
Shampoo and shower gell would have been a nice touch
The cupboard under the stairs had a strange smell to it and we had problems getting the oven to work properly( may have been operator error) but instructions would have been good.
We are likely to book again

We booked 4 of the houses for a big group of families and it was perfect. The houses themselves were all spotless and very nicely finished. There were lovely touches like a home-baked cake and a bottle of wine left in each house. The location is amazing - lots of places for long walks and beautiful rolling countryside all around. I highly recommend a stay!

A perfect place for a large family celebration. Lovely to have a hot tub and well equipped cottage. Plenty of parking too. Lovely for walking and sightseeing. Games room an added bonus.

Had a fabulous stay and wish it could have been longer. Wonderful fully equipped cottage in a beautiful location. Tasty lemon drizzle cake included in the welcome pack was lovely and plentiful for the party. Marianne was very accommodating with our party needs and anxious to ensure that we had all we needed for my disabled husband which was much appreciated. Everyone loved the hot tub too. Would definitely go back.

This is the third cottage we hired. Excellent for families. Everyone enjoyed the accommodation and the group of cottages together we're ideal for a large group with ages 11months to seventy!

Excellent from booking our stay to arrival adding the extras cake wine and chocolates.on our arrival Marianne called in to check all was ok and showed us how to use the hot tub and guide us on how the oven worked. Chloe on booking even measured the entrance step as my mother has limited mobility. Having the shower chair and commode allowed mum piece of mind at night. The walk in shower was the same as home so she had no worries there.
We will recommend and return.Thank you Marianne and Chloe for a lovely relaxing stay

Excellent stay on all fronts!
Accommodation lacked nothing in the cottage.
Paved private patio very good, kept our small dog safe and secure. By all accounts a fantastic hot tub and shower out there.
Inside, spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, tv’s with crystal clear reception. The list goes on.
Definitely recommend to anyone.
The final touches where Mrs Manley has welcomed us with complementary wine, home made cake etc. capped it!!!

Enjoying complimentary red wine, lemon drizzle cake and maltesers, relaxed me and Denise within 15 minutes after moving in our belongings! Feeling totally relaxed is a tremendous tonic and love the Hot tub! Love this secluded country retreat.

What a fantastic weekend had by all of the 15 ladies in my party.
The venue was second to none, finding it in the dark was a bit of a challenge though! ;-)
I would most definitely recommend this Westhope. The owners were very helpful and the property was clean and comfortable.
If you are wanting to stay connected to the outside world I would say this is not a place for you but if you want to get away from everything to relax and recharge your batteries this is most definitely the place to come. The hot tubs also helped with this :-)
