This is a good place to experience a peaceful, rural holiday near Oban. The Monday evening musical presentation was wonderful. If you have plans to do things in Oban, it is a half hour drive away. I think basics such as sugar, salt and pepper should be provided for the casual visitors who are only going to be there for a couple of days.
My mum, dad, myself and my children had a fantastic week in the Garden Cottage. The cottage has excellent parking facilities and being on one level made such a difference as I am on crutches. The cottage was fully equipped and beautifully furnished. The swimming pool, games rooms, play room, tennis courts, play park and enclosed field we could let our dog off in meant we didn't have to travel far to keep the children amused. The restaurant served delicious food and the waiter and waitress were so friendly. We really enjoyed the local singers and band who entertained us on the Monday ...more
Very nice stay, excellent location. Was a shame about the weather but this did not mark down the amazing scenery. Bliss having no phone signal but wi-fi worked well so not completely cut off. Thank you very much!
Melfort Cottage was small but perfectly formed! It has everything you want for a short stay and more than you need. The log burner was a real bonus and made our evenings a pleasure. There is little or no mobile signal unless you are on O2 or Vodafone and the wiFi is a bit slow but free so can't complain. Oddly, there is no telephone in any of the cottages so you can't phone the office or make a call on a landline. You have to physically go to the office which wasn't bad for us but a little inconvenient for those in cottages farther away at the Pier or in the Walled Garden. The bed is very ...more
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay but wish it had been for longer! Facilities even better than described as there was a walk in shower downstairs. Exactly what we required. Perhaps updated information about this put on website. Weather fantastic and we were able to take advantage of the spectacular countryside and views! Swimming pool and changing area spotlessly clean
The fifth time we have stayed at Melfort Village, but the first time in Quarry Cottage. It is the highest property, and the outlook is excellent. Maintenance of the cottage, and of the whole complex, is of the highest order. Despite a very poor weather forecast, our week was not spoiled by rain. There was a little, but not enough to stop us from exploring the area, and our day on Luing was exceptionally bright. All members of staff we encountered were very helpful and anxious to please. We ate in the Shower of Herring on our first night and the quality of the food was superb. We did n...more
We had an excellent holiday at Melfort Village. The surrounding area is very picturesque with views of the loch. We found the cottage extremely well equipped, and clean . A bonus was finding a games room right next door which my grandchildren made good use of in the evening. We would certainly go there again.
Very homely cottage and suits us very well. Bed linen was a bit tired and when I stripped the bed the mattresss cover was a double on a king size bed so much too small. Unfortunately we were plagued with wasps in the cottage. This resulted in getting rid of around a dozen every time we went out. We could not see how they were getting in. We did mention this to the maintenance man but he was unable to locate the source. Disappointed the restaurant closed after the Monday but we coped.
We had an excellent time, not really wanting to leave. Every member of the staff was extremely helpful but also unobtrusive. Our cottage was probably the smallest two bedroom unit and with visitors for a couple of days we struggled a little with having only one bathroom. However, this did not spoil anything because there was so much to do in the area and the weather was excellent on the whole. The scenery is terrific. We used the swimming pool and the Shoal of Herring - fish and chips and home made tartar sauce the best consistent meal at a good price. The local walking guide wa...more
Loch Melfort village lived up to all our expectations. Pity that the weather was inclement so we couldn't take full advantage of the surrounding countryside..
Melfort Village is simply a wonderful place for a family holiday. The range of accommodation is excellent, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the location is stunning. I cannot recommend Melfort Village highly enough!
kids loved being right beside the loch, playing in garden, games room & den building. (dad enjoyed the open water swimming & off road running) not too many midges. great service from Olwen @ reception (including brilliant kids swimming lessons). lots of other excellent things too numerous to mention. many thanks.
The staff at Melfort were extremely welcoming and informative. The facilities were good. Great having The Shower of Herring on the doorstep and we ate there a couple of times. Kat made us very welcome.
We were delighted with the accommodation and the area and most definitely wish to come back next year!
This cottage was extremely comfortable especially considering the poor weather. It was well stocked, the kitchen had every thing we needed to enjoy our holiday. The only thing missing was a washing machine. However there was a laundry to use if we required it We would certainly stay again. Next time we hope the weather will be better
Been coming to Melfort for over 20 years Children are now older and the quiet of Melfort not so much their thing now. We enjoyed our four nights at the Walled Garden and my husband and I will continue to come back.
This was an extra week at Melfort as we have now been visiting Melfort for thirty years. It never disappoints. As always extremely comfortable, stunning views, staff attend to your every need immediately. There really isn't anyway else to be.... Will be back next year.
We would like to come again! it is a very silent and calm place in a very fine area of Scotland. The landscape is fascinating.
A very nice stay in a lovely location. On site restaurant was excellent offering good food. Very quite location with superb views.
We spent an amazing week in Melfort Village with our son and his wife, plus 2 small children. Weather was mixed but that did not matter as we had the option of the indoor playroom and the swimming pool on the couple of poor days; and lovely walks round the grounds, playing on the swings and kicking a ball in the big field on good days. The staff really "make" Melfort, as they are so friendly and helpful, with lots of ideas of places to visit and things to do. The atmosphere in this pretty little "village" is so nice, with all the guests chatting to each other when they meet. I highly recomm...more
The Cottage has been recently refurbished with good quality bathroom, kitchen, lighting and 2 comfortable sofas in the sitting room with TV and WiFi. Very cosy to come back to after day out in the rain and knowing that on-site restaurant 'Shower of Herring' is available with good food at reasonable prices. Walled garden appreciated by dog. Very helpful staff with good knowledge of nearby attractions and ferries to islands. Need a car to explore the area.
We have now stayed at Melfort Village twice and intend to return. It is great for families with young children as the facilities are ideal in size and location. We love the tranquillity of the village along with the excellent customer care at all times.
Clean, good value, good area to relax, not so much for sight seeing with only one week in Scotland. Heat was turned off in the night and then too cold.
Very well equipped cottage and very friendly staff. The showers in the bathrooms were disappointing as neither were very powerful.
This cottage provides great comfort in this idyllic setting. No problem chilling out here. Paradise.
Second visit to Melfort village and again a very enjoyable experience despite the rain, rain and rain again. Made good use of the adults hours at the on site swimming pool ,Enjoyable night at the music night on Monday in the bar/restaurant. Lovely scenery tempted us out and about with raincoat at the ready so sampled some of the village tearooms most days. Our accommodation was extremely well equipped so self catering a pleasure in the roomy kitchen area. There is a lot of thought given to childrens needs ,large outdoor playing area, equipment available for games,a playroom and a games room f...more
This was our first stay at Melfort Village and, in fact, our first stay in the Oban area. The resort is charming and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Coachmans West was a very comfortable apartment and relaxing in front of the log-burning stove was a very pleasant way to spend an autumn evening. The close proximity of the pool, hot tub and gym was a real advantage. All three facilities were very well maintained. The Shower of Herrings restaurant serves excellent food and the staff here are also very friendly and efficient. The takeaway facility is a real advantage. The Monday night m...more
Our stay was made all the more enjoyable by friendly staff at reception and at the pool. The Monday night music was a bonus.
This was our first visit and we found the accommodation to be good if dated and in need of a good clean re the lounge suite. It rained every day which meant we had to use the onsite facilities more than we usually would, this highlighted the restrictive nature of a pool too small to accommodate the number of guests wanting to use it. This was also true of the onsite restaurant. We had to travel out to get a meal. The staff however were very friendly and helpful.
Staff, helpful, efficient and accessible. Location superb with many places to visit and many good places to eat, with most of them being "Dog Friendly". Grounds attractive and well maintained despite significant amount of rain. The cottage is well equipped with good quality cutlery and crockery but a few plastic storage boxes would be useful. When a problem was experienced, it was instantly addressed by a very helpful maintenance person and the failed item, a heated towel rail, replaced. The only criticism is the occupancy time. 5.00 pm is unacceptable as a whole day is lost. 2.00 wou...more
We had a very enjoyable stay at Melfort Village. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. The only 2 slightly negative points were: on arrival at reception, the welcome was rather offhand; and the water pressure in the main shower was very low.
Quaint but modern facility in a rural area. Great staff and wonderful onsite restaurant with great entertainment. Beautiful location. Close to several tourist attractions.
