A period town house fantastically positioned within the majestic city walls. Sleeping 6, the property also benefits from outdoor space and parking. A great choice for any stay in the city.

This house is great, very homely. Close enough to centre of York to be able to walk in and enjoy all York has to offer, yet far enough away to be quiet and relaxing. Have stayed here a number of time and will be staying again.

Stayed here for the week before my nieces wedding. Lovely house with every amenity we needed. Walking distamce to town. Easy access to cycle paths and lots of lovely cycling.
We stayed during an exceptionally hot week, but once we opened the velux windows in the attic room the heat rose out and the house was very comfortable.

We stayed as a family of 5 adults, and the layout was ideal - on the ground floor the space was great for socialising with open plan lounge, diner and kitchen, leading to outside space. There is an added bonus of a downstairs toilet. The outside space is compact but catches the sun very nicely during the day, with space for their table and four chairs, and for the dogs to enjoy too. There are then two floors, one with two bedrooms and the main bathroom, with the main bedroom having a lovely ensuite. The second floor has a sloping ceiling, our son is 6ft 2, and just managed - the bed can be made into a kingsize but being tall the headroom is restricted, but manageable. Beds are very comfy. Everywhere clean and well equipped. Location is great, quiet neighbourhood, with amenities close and a lovely street nearby with wine bars, artisan shops and breakfast eateries, in addition to York being a 10 minute walk including a beautiful walk by the river. Overall an excellent place to stay, with great hosts.

Fantastic! The location was brilliant, the house is delightful with plenty of room for all. Lovely little touches by host, like fresh milk, tea, coffee and bottle of fizz. Such a little gem I have recommended to friends already. Stays York were also extremely helpful and really impressed by the curtesy call the day before our trip.

The property was better than expected for location and quality. Everything was clean, organised and furnished to high standards with thoughtful amenities provided, even a hairdryer in each room! Quiet area and neighbours. We had a lovely stay, ate at local cafes and went on long wintery walks through historic York.

We very much enjoyed our long weekend in York. So much to do here with two young boys (7 &9).
48 Fairfax St was an absolutely lovely place to stay - cosy, scrupulously clean, comfy beds, an exciting ice-dispensing freezer, lots of extras like dishwasher/washing tablets & toiletries - all within walking distance of the beautiful city. We really appreciated the welcome pack of goodies.
Thank you.

The house was very clean, and set up well for our arrival with a nice welcome basket. The location of the house is excellent, and so convenient for all the recommended places to visit in York. We had a great stay, were lucky with lovely weather and would definitely recommend the house as a great place to stay when visiting York. Thank you.

This is a lovely property in a really pleasant area which is very close to the centre of York and yet is quiet and peaceful.
The property is very clean, well equipped and well presented with comfortable beds and furniture and everything is well maintained apart from a small issue with a bathroom door handle, which is the only reason for the lower rating in the condition category, We were very pleased with the provisions and treats that were left for us and the information provided is done so in a warm and welcoming way so you feel very much at home here. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely property on a very quiet street, but only a 5 minute walk from the town centre. The spec was really high, lovely plush carpets upstairs, and the bathroom and kitchen were better than at home! Lovely little gifts on arrival and nice touches, like having coffee, milk etc. We had one minor problem, resolved by text message within minutes.

We chose Fairfax Street for its central location and family friendly amenities (cot/highchair, parking, etc).

The house is on a quiet residential street with ample parking. On arrival the house was clean and tidy, with a thoughtful welcome hamper. The living space is large and comfortable, great for socialising, with a well equipped kitchen.

The master bedroom was large, plenty of space even with a cot set up. The other two bedrooms were smaller, but fine for our needs.

The location was excellent - just a short walk into the city, lots of cafes/restaurants nearby, and even a small playground at the bottom of the road which was great for our young children (1 and 4 years old). We will definitely stay again if we come back to York.

We really enjoyed our stay at 48 Fairfax Street, York. The property is in excellent condition and perfect location for easy access into York. The property was well equipped and clean. Parking was a bit tricky, large vehicles will struggle through the narrow streets. The owners made us feel welcome, with some treats. Will definitely stay here again.

There was 4 adults and 2 children and plenty of room for us all. The house is beautifully maintained with many modern facilities that made our weekend away feel luxurious. The team at York Stays were helpful from the first phone call and provided us with all the information we needed. It's a quiet street but 10 minutes walk from all of the main attractions. We highly recommend 48 Fairfax Street!

We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in this delightful property. The owner had included thoughtful touches and appeared to be easily accessible, although we didn't need to contact him at all during our stay. Everything was spotless, and the property was finished to a very high spec.

We were looking for somewhere close to the centre of town with parking that would fit a Land Rover. We expected to be disappointed, but 48 Fairfax Street was perfect. Inside the city walls, residents parking available, very quiet at night. House very well looked after, no complaints at all.

This house is superb! From the start, it was clean, spacious and the hosts had provided the essentials to start us off such as bread, milk and a bottle of Pinot Grigio! The location was perfect, less than a 10 minute walk into the heart of York and it was a privilege to stay in their gorgeous house! We will definitely think about staying again next year!

48 Fairfax St is an excellent rental for a family or group. It is city centre yet quiet. Parking outside the door. The house is very well equipped from really good bed linens and towels to kitchen utensils. The starter pack is well thought out and was much appreciated after a long drive. Loads of information about York and it’s hinterland. Wish I had discovered this house before now!

A lovely, comfortable house, ideally located within the city walls so very easy to get everywhere on foot. Even the station is a short walk or £5 taxi ride so if you don't have a car this is perfect. At the end of Fairfax Street you can go up on to the city wall and have a really interesting walk all round or just access the part of the city you want to get to.
Inside, the house has a downstairs loo as well as the ensuite and a family bathroom. This worked well for our group of four friends. We stayed during an unusually cold spell in June so were pleased to have the electric fire in the living room. Would definitely recommend this for a small family or group wanting to see York.

Lovely spot to stay. It helped make our visit to York exactly what we wanted. The house is roomy and well equipped and our host great to deal with although we had no problems. The location is perfect in that it is near to the tourist sites yet on a quiet street for a good night's sleep.

The cottage was perfect for our stay, beautifully kept and well equipped. The welcome hamper of tea, coffee, biscuits, juice, wine, bread, butter and jam were unexpected but very welcome, thank you. It was only a 5-10 mins walk to the centre and plenty of great restaurants to try. Our first visit to York but certainly won't be the last. The station was close and there was also parking outside on the quiet street with a permit. I can recommend the Minster tour, which takes about an hour but well worth it and so informative. We also went to the Castle museum, spent about 3-4 hours here, cafe in the museum was not the best, and also took a trip on the river, and the informative pilot made it worthwhile, although it was a little breezy! Restaurants to recommend: 31 Castlegate had a great 2 or 3 course dinner menu, Pairings on Castlegate served us some lovely sharing platters and rose, the smoked salmon pate was amazing! And the waiter was really helpful and had some great advice for ordering. The Market Cat is worth a stop for great pizza and prosecco, its 3 storeys so go upstairs and people watch and look over the roof tops. All in all a great weekend!

We had a great stay in the house over a 4-day weekend. It was very comfortable and perfect for an extended family of 6. The kids loved the bedroom at the top. Check in and out was very easy. The house was very close to all the main attractions and an easy walk from the train station on a quiet street.

We had a lovely welcome, Peter met us on arrival and showed us the house, and told us all the best places to visit, the local food store locations and how to get there. Also provided were some essentials, bread, milk, buttter etc and some non essentials but welcome treats ie biscuits etc...

The house had everything we needed, from dishwasher tablets and laundry fluid to a hairdryer, iron, and towels! The kitchen and living area is lovely and it has a downstairs toilet. There is a small external courtyard if you want to sit outside we decided not to brave the cold as we went in February! The house is just 5-10mins from York city centre so is very convenient to the sights.

For places to visit, we enjoyed and would recommend going to the Railway museum (entrance is free and also good for kids), If you want really good food ‘little Italy’ (by Goodramgate) and Betty’s tea house (by the mansion house) are lovely.

Could be cleaner in places but generally ok and quite comfortable and excellent location for the city centre. Very quiet. Street parking which was free with a ticket from the owner. Very narrow street be careful if you've a large car! Third bedroom is an attic and quite claustrophobic unless you are a small child and even then it's at the top of a narrow staircase. Didn't like this to be honest but it's well advertised as it is so no surprises to be had.
