Believed to be York’s Oldest Brick built house, The Dutch House is a listed building dating from 1648 and is one of York’s finest historical private residences. It has now been sympathetically renovated to provide a wonderful 2-bedroom 2-bathroom property. York is world renowned for its history and culture, when you book The Dutch House, you will be sleeping in the very heart of this!

We stay in York for a week every December to do our Christmas shopping. Our two main priorities for somewhere to stay are central location and parking. The Dutch House was the perfect location with the added bonus of onsite secure parking - fabulous! The house was quirky, warm, very clean, and comfortable. Another bonus was that it was only round the corner from our favourite restaurant in York - Little Italy- not to be missed for authentic dishes (no pizzas!).
It was a pity that there was no welcome pack, as shown on the pictures, and even mentioned in the visitors book, Some milk would have been nice to make a drink when we arrived, but not too far from shops to pop out. Minor point.
Clear Instructions on how to open/manipulate the door are needed - not a problem when you know what to do (we ended up having to phone the office), awkward in the rain!
All in all a wonderful stay.

The Dutch House is a beautiful historic home in the center of York, close to the Minster, but far enough to be quiet. It's a lovingly restored property on three stories, and very comfortable. Great kitchen for cooking with everything you'd need. The double bath in the second floor bedroom was a wonderful bonus! As an historic property, it's the focus of tour groups which show up 4-5 times a day. It was amusing at first, but after a few days it was tiresome, especially when people would peer in the window.

There are a few drawbacks: the beds are not particularly comfortable. For the price point, I would expect a better mattress. Being a very old building it has some condition issues in the plaster work, uneven floors, stair pitch, etc. Finally, there is a smart heating system which was set to 11° celsius (52° fahrenheit). I could set the thermostat to a comfortable temp, but after 2 hours it would reset to 11°. Being eco-friendly is one thing, but this struck me as downright parsimonious.
