Laurel Cottage is an elegant end of terrace cottage in the peaceful village of Coln St Aldwyns. The owners have created a stunning country retreat that blends stylish interiors with original features and includes a beautiful kitchen-dining area. There’s a cosy living room with a wood burner, perfect for chilly winter evenings and an enclosed garden to the rear with views of the church. The cottage sleeps four guests across two bedrooms and is just two miles from the pretty village of Bibury. The village pub is a short stroll away.

I booked this property for a short break, wanting a location away from the main busy villages of the Costwolds and this location fit the bill perfectly. The cottage has clearly had a lot of love, time and thought (and money!) put into its renovation and fixtures/fittings/decor, which shows not only in the photos, but in real life too. The location was great, really sweet, quiet village with a great pub and on the edge of beautiful countryside, within really easy drives of everywhere we wanted to go during our stay.
I do need to unfortunately mark it down on a few factors, cleanliness and comfort.
- Cleanliness - there were dead bugs on the floor in the lounge and kitchen, multiple spider webs/cobwebs in doorways and windows, windows were so dirty they looked misted, TV and unit was covered in dust, bed frame was covered in dust, there were hairs in the bath and marks on taps, water marks over the mirrors etc. it felt like an extremely lazy clean that someone did in less than an hour, I would have expected better for the price paid.
- Comfort - the main sofa in the lounge looks and feels like it is well beyond going to the dump. There is no cushion or spring left in the seat cushions at all and it is very hard and uncomfortable when sat on. It looks old and tired and really not in keeping with the quality of the other items in the cottage. The beds were both small doubles, which I was aware of when booking and can't be helped when furnishing a cottage of this age, however both of us found the bed uncomfortable for sleeping. We'd both had such bad sleeps during our stay that we actually chose to drive home a night early.
Also be aware if you are planning to stay in the summer... there is not a fan provided at the property, so we were grateful to have bought our own, as the night time temp in the bedroom was 26 degrees and it wasn't even that warm during the day!
All in all I would recommend this property, despite what I said above, as it really is lovely, but please if the property owners read this, improve the cleaning and perhaps consider replacing the main sofa as those two things would really make your property the standard that your investment clearly deserves.

I was so disappointed, however, to read that you were not happy with a few aspects of your stay. We have only had excellent reviews so far, so I take your words very seriously and am really sad to think that your stay could have been anything less than perfect. I am very sorry to read that you found cleanliness was not up to scratch. Our housekeeper and her team are usually excellent and we have always scored highly on this. I cannot apologise enough if this was not the case for your stay and I have contacted her about this. I am also sorry that you found the sofa uncomfortable. Others have not mentioned this but I will certainly consider replacing it. Both beds have new and expensive mattresses and others have commented on how comfortable they are, so, again, I am very sorry to hear that you found these uncomfortable - there is nothing worse than not being able to sleep when you're supposed to be away relaxing. We do provide a fan in each bedroom - they are kept within the wardrobes. If these were not immediately obvious then I am very sorry for this. I will raise with the housekeeper that you could not find them in case they were perhaps hidden behind something, or to check whether they could have been taken by another guest since I was last there two weeks ago. We had a lovely stay here, it is a beautiful cottage and a good base for exploring the Cotswolds. We would love to stay here again in the future.

Ist was just lovely. Everything you need die a nice holiday. There is a shop and a pub in the village.

A lovely cottage with everything you could possibly need. Beautifully maintained and spotlessly clean. The housekeeper Michelle was very helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Only issue was with the internet connection, the cable had come loose from the box - worth checking if you have problems.

Perfect cottage for a short vacation in the English countryside.

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Property is decorated in a traditional way and to a high standard. Very cosy during this recent snowy weather. Highly recommended.

We were very happy with everything. It is a lovely cottage in a beautiful area.We could not fault it.
Unlike other companies there is a hefty cleaning charge, in this case, nearly 25% of the rental charge, added to the cost. We clean any property we rent thoroughly before leaving and it seems totally unreasonable that we have to pay a lot extra.
We were considering going there again for a week in a few weeks, but the cleaning charge is making us reconsider.

We spent 3 nights away at Laurel cottage and it was an absolutely stunning place in a lovely quiet little village. It really is such a beautiful property, a dream home. Seeing it for the first time when we arrived we was amazed at how beautiful it looked from the outside. A real picturesque property. When we went in we was even more amazed at how lovely, clean, cosy and modern it was. Overall just blown away with how beautiful it was. The kitchen in particular was a favourite of ours. Every room was really nice to a high standard. The bedroom we stayed in was comfy. The shower in the bathroom and especially the free standing bath was amazing. The garden was really nice too with comfy seats to sit on and enjoy the peace and quiet, especially in the mornings and evenings. It was so peaceful. Honestly the pictures don’t do it justice for how nice it really is. We loved our stay there and didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be returning again in the future and can’t wait until we do. An absolutely beautiful property in a lovely part of the country.

As I am not a native speaker I hope I am sending the right message, The Cottage is very cosy , elegant & comfortable, we both enjoyed our staying for seven days very very much. The surrounding is the nicest we have expirienced -especially the walk from Coln to Bibury. And we loved the local Store…
We had sunshine the whole time, only one day was a bit rainy ( for which we were longing for, after the heat).

My husband and I had a lovely break away at this cottage, from the photos I knew it would be nice and it was even better than I expected! We could have quite happily lived there! Great base for stunning river walks and exploring nearby. Would stay again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

This cottage is a slice of heaven! The little touches of sublime fragrance to the roses on the dining table. I cannot wait to stay here again. The cottage is finished to such a high standard. Such a friendly housekeeper who was super helpful and quick to respond to emails. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place!
