A beautifully appointed, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, dog-friendly*, Georgian townhouse, with an air of French elegance, tucked in the heart of one of the Cotswolds’ most famous market towns, renowned for its royal connections and antique shops. New Church Cottage has a private, enclosed patio and secure, off-street parking for one car.

You’d be forgiven for missing New Church Cottage as you wander the bustling streets of Tetbury; arguably the most stylish market town in the Cotswolds, thanks to its boutique shops, designer delis and distinctly royal connections. Nestled in a terrace of classic honey-coloured Georgian townhouses just a stone’s throw from the town’s centre, New Church Cottage is distinguished by its quintessential duck-egg blue front door and pretty bay trees framing its front sash window; an elegant touch, setting the theme for the property as soon as you step inside.

Walking straight into the cosy living space of the cottage, you’ll get a sense of its rich heritage, dating back to the 18thCentury. An antique-surround open fire acts as the centrepiece of the room, with tasteful historic artwork, Sanderson fabrics and antique furnishings giving the room a timeless, elegant feel. Through the living room sits a small but well-formed kitchen, hand-painted and stocked with all that you’ll need during your stay, with a handy dining space tucked at the rear for comfortable dining.

Up the winding staircase, lined with eye-catching Lewis & Wood wallpaper, you’ll find two bedrooms for up to four guests, each individually-designed with a twist of antique French sophistication. Bedroom two boasts a beautiful antique French double bed, complete with billowing fabric draping, plus pretty, painted antique furniture and views out onto the street beneath. Up another winding staircase (cleverly concealed behind a frosted glass door) sits the master bedroom, with show-stopping features emanating a real feeling of historic luxury. In here, guests will find a vaulted ceiling with chunky painted beams, a sparkling crystal chandelier, a sink-in French “Empire” style king-size bed and plenty of antique touches. There’s even a small but incredibly handy en-suite shower room; a great addition to the cottage’s main bathroom located just off the staircase on the first floor.

With the sights and sounds of Tetbury quite literally on your doorstep at New Church Cottage, you’ll have plenty on hand to keep you entertained with a host of fantastic cafés, restaurants, shops and pubs to discover. After a busy day exploring, the cottage’s perfectly petite courtyard garden offers a welcome respite from the hubbub of the town, where guests can unwind with a sundowner or fire up the BBQ for charcoal-cooked feast.

I just loved my week in this gorgeous cottage / mini townhouse.
Beautifully appointed, very comfortable downstairs and slept incredibly well in fabulous bedroom. Excellent fast WiFi which was important too.
All the amenities that Tetbury offers are an easy flat walk and the little town has just about everything you need. I was staying on my own and it was just perfect in every way. The private off street car parking space is a huge plus point too. Definitely recommend and would love to return. As has been noted before - if any mobility problems getting up and down stairs they require due care & attention.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in tetbury lovely house in a great location for all we wanted to do.
We had a couple of niggles the tap in the top bathroom was dripping sow was very hard to turn off.
The TV in first floor bedroom had no reception. Also not much room to store any food in the Kitchen all cupboards were full.
Best wishes Diane Thompson

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful home and we thank you for your good review. We apologise for the couple of niggles you experienced, but regarding the TV we would happily have helped if you had contacted us to let us know. It was actually just in need of returning which we could have talked you through if we’d have had the problem reported to us as we always respond to any issues quickly.

Great location close to restaurants, however very busy and noisy road.Had issue with fire place re not being able to use it as it had birds. Then not being able to use it as neighbours ask you not to due to fumes going into their upper bedroom where the baby sleeps of their property.
Property manger told us to use fire place, she then called and asked if she could compensate us somehow, to not get a bad review, and to think about what we would like. When i emailed back saying maybe a refund would be nice....Never heard from her... Very disappointed.
The issue with fire place has been ongoing for quite a while according to neighbour.
The lovely neighbour actually gave us a bottle of wine to thank us for not using the fire place.
The beds match the style of the property, however with the uneven floors, it feels like your head is much lower than your feet. It Wasn’t a very nice feeling laying on the bed.

Excellent location in village despite noisy, busy road. Close to Highgrove and Westonbirt Arboretum. A lot smaller than shown in the photographs. Floors uneven as with many properties of this age but added to the charming character of the house. Full of interesting 'objet d'art' and antiques, but leaves little room for guest's belongings etc. A few hooks behind doors wouldn't go amiss as would a few drawers. Dining is very tight for 4 adults. Couldn't use the open fire but central heating was adequate and hot water was plentiful. There were a few issues which the owner promptly sorted. Comfy, but small beds. Flowers and cake were a nice touch!

Dear Paula, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay, but would like to offer the following response to the issues you raised. There are some ‘objets d’art’ but we do get many compliments about how they make the house feel like a home so we do hope you enjoyed them and felt free to move them. There are hooks behind each bathroom door for you to hang robes and your own clothing so we wonder whether you missed these? There are also sets of drawers in each bedroom in which you can put your clothing and belongings. We are not quite sure what you mean by ‘small beds’? The top floor has a sumptuous king size French antique bed and the first floor has a standard double, so neither bed is undersized. Despite these we really hope you had a lovely time and wish to visit again. If you do we will ensure we make your stay extra special on every count. Best regards, NEW CHURCH TEAM

Cottage is done out beautifully with nice antiques and is perfectly located to explore the many wonderful shops in Tetbury. However, beware the traffic is pretty heavy on the street where its located and there is an issue with the neighbour over fumes from the open fire - beware he may knock on the door if you try to have a fire. Overall a pleasant stay marred by traffic and odd neighbour.
