The Barracks is a stunning, Grade II listed home built in 1633, aptly named as it was used to garrison soldiers during the English Civil War. The current owner, only the second in the home’s 400-year history, has transformed the house into a fabulous three-bedroom holiday home, perfectly combining contemporary artwork and facilities, including two modern bathrooms and a superb kitchen, with the original inglenooks, exposed timbers, window seats and wonderful staircase. Outside there is a beautiful garden, divided into three parts, giving guests space to dine, contemplate, play and relax. The village is located midway between the picturesque towns of Burford and Bibury, and the Sherborne Arms, a local family-owned village pub, is a short walk from the house.

A substantial accommodation, large rooms and decent kitchen area.
All heating was off when we arrived and 6 degrees c outside and similar inside, as it’s a big, old property with central heating, it was the second day before it was starting to become comfortable, and warm just as we were leaving.
The seating in the main sitting room needs replacing as very little support left in the chairs and sofa, so we used other rooms. The wood burner is very nice addition, bring your own logs if you intend to use it for more than one day, as that’s what is supplied.
If you are uncomfortable with spiders bring your own duster / trap as the property is by open fields and farm land and so some have taken up residence.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at The Barracks. We are very glad to hear that you liked the accommodation. We have shared your feedback with the housekeeper and owner who have taken your points on board. We are very sorry to hear that you found the property cold and regarding the spiders. The housekeeper is looking into this and we are afraid that unfortunately, these can appear out of nowhere, especially at the moment with the weather being up and down. In regards to logs, we advertise on our website listing that logs are provided for an initial fire.

Very well-presented house with plenty of space ideally situated for exploring a variety of Cotswolds locations. The property was clean and tidy with a very functional kitchen, comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. Plenty of outdoor space and a lovely rural location.

The house, the garden, the area are absolutely stunning! The bathrooms and kitchen are excellent, the showers are very good. Internet is perfect. However, unfortunately, I have to mention that the furniture is very outdated. The couches in the livingroom are extremely uncomfortable to sit on. The chairs in the dining room are very wobbly, we hardly daired sitting on them. The beds are very uncomfortable as well: either too soft or too hard, with springs sticking out. And only one bath towel for a whole week really isn't enough. Besides that we have had a lovely time in Aldsworth.

Our stay was overall a good one, the property grounds are lovely, as is the village and good food at The Sherborne Arms just 10 minutes easy walk away. We were two families with kids, so we enjoyed playing badminton, football, the gas bbq and board games.

The property is a little on the tired side, not as fresh at the pictures but it’s still perfectly fine, could do with more fridge space for drinks.

The property is adjoining a small house to one side, which we didn’t mind but were just conscious we were bbqing outside someone else’s window. It’s not obvious from the photos.

On arrival there was animal poo on the lawn, we reported it and were told it must be a wild animal as no pets allowed. The following day we had two more surprises arrive, so there is definitely a regular uninvited guest! Not much you can do about that.

The communication from the property manager was good. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Barracks and would recommend it.

We loved this property. Well equipped spacious kitchen (good quality saucepans ) with little surprises like a good selection of herbs and spices, coffee beans. Lots of interesting books in the library for both adults and children. A beautiful walled garden with fields and nice walks nearby. Plenty of space for a family of 5 or 6. A wood fire ( not needed as the property was already nice and warm). We would have been happy there for months!

We had a wonderful week at the Barracks despite miserable weather. The house is larger than it looks in the photographs and is extremely comfortable. We loved the library on the landing ( a fantastic collection ) and enjoyed playing the honkey tonk piano. For an old house it was very warm and the wood burner in the large sitting room ensured it was super cosy in the evening. The beds were comfortable and the house was spotlessly clean. There is an enormous garden, split into three sections, which I am sure in the Summer will be amazing. Geographically it is perfectly situated for visits to Oxford, Cirencester, Cheltenham, Stroud etc as well as picture postacard Cotswold villages. We would definitely visit again.
