Talkin Tarn is in an area of natural beauty surrounded by countryside, woodland walks and Castle Carrock Fell. The tarn itself has a circular walk of 1.3 miles passing through woodlands and the Boathouse Café and Gift Shop where you can enjoy a coffee or lunch al fresco overlooking the tarn. Subject to license fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing and windsurfing are available on the tarn. A footpath leads from the tarn to the village of Talkin with country pub serving delicious meals, there is also Brampton Golf Course with bar and restaurant within a short walk or a 5 minute drive takes you to Brampton with shops, cafes, takeaways, pubs and restaurants. The area is surrounded by historical sites including Carlisle Castle and Cathedral, Lanercost Priory and tea rooms, and perhaps the best known is the World Heritage Hadrian’s Wall. Being just off the A69 and a 20 minute drive from the M6, Talkin Tarn is easily accessible which also makes exploring the whole of Cumbria easy with Lake Ullswater, the Solway Coast, Scottish Borders and Newcastle all less than 1.5 hour drive.

Waters Edge nestles close to the shores of Talkin Tarn and has uninterrupted views across the garden and tarn. With its own private garden area, the cottage is in the grounds of the former Tarn End Hotel, now converted to 12 luxurious cottages in a tranquil setting. The cottage, for 2, is perfect for a romantic break at any time of year or to celebrate a special occasion in an area of outstanding natural beauty and tranquillity.

Park your car in the car park and wonder down the path towards Waters Edge where the tarn views appear in front of you. Once inside the warm and cosy cottage, marvel at the view through the picture windows in front of you to the tarn, relax on the comfy sofas in front of the Smart TV and wood burning stove. Equipped with everything you will need to rustle up a delicious meal which can be enjoyed at the dining table or on the decking, both overlooking the tarn. As evening descends light the log pit and watch the world go by as the sun sets over the tarn casting a golden glow before retiring to bed with plump pillows, fresh linen and dressing gowns. The luxurious bathroom has a shower cubicle and copper bath, relax with a glass of bubbly and wash the stresses of daily life away.

The cottage has LPG central heating, electric, logs, bed linen, towels, dressing gowns and WiFi included. Private garden with fire pit and access to the tarn. Parking permit for 1 car provided for the onsite car park.

Amazing magical place, very warm and cosy, everything we needed, so comfortable in every way.
View is spectacular, changes everyday, despite very low temperatures outside we never felt it in the property ..
Bed is so comfortable with superior bedding, so peaceful.

Fabulous cottage, well equipped, comfy bed with very good bedding. Easy access to The Lakes, Hadrian’s wall and Talkin Tarn. Stayed for a week and felt it was home from home. Highly recommend for a stay.

We had an excellent stay at Waters Edge. The location is idyllic, overlooking the tarn and set in a pretty landscaped garden. The property is ideal for a stay any time of year, it has very spacious rooms with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Sitting on the patio overlooking the tarn, watching the activity on the water and enjoying the wildlife was a highlight of our stay. Highly recommend!

I surprised my wife with a 2 night stay for her birthday and it was breathtakingly beautiful. The location was perfect and the added bonus was the weather was superb. It was immaculate and the whole place was finished to an exceptionally high standard. We loved every minute and didn't want to leave, we will be back !

A brilliant week stay at Waters Edge, a wonderful location to relax and exactly what we needed. Would suggest a welcome pack for week stayers, simple items such as butter/milk would go a long way! Also one set of towels was a lot smaller than the other.

This place is absolutely beautiful. Right on the tarn at Water’s Edge which is separate from The cottages. Came here to just relax and chill and that is what we have done. From the moment we walked in we were blown away! The extremely high standard of everything and the detail Julia and David have put into making it perfect is amazing. Fluffy white towels and bath robes to all of the fine details like toiletries to champagne flutes! Everything you need is here. There is a hairdryer, TV, WiFi parking with permits for two cars and a pub not far away oh and a wood burning stove! Definitely will return xxx

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful lakeside cottage.
Every attention to detail has been given here, it’s warm, cosy and you have all you need
for a relaxing time, which we certainly did!
We totally loved the log burner as we stayed when it snowed, which was magically.
We loved our walks around the tarn and especially enjoyed a visit to the nearby Gelt woods and the Cumberland pub
in castle Carrock ☺️ great food and super hospitable there.
If you are wanting a chilled getaway Water Edge is the place to be
