Penkenna House is one of the original residential properties built in Crackington Haven, and enjoys an enviable position adjoining the beautiful beach that is popular with surfers, walkers and families alike. Pick up your surf board and walk straight onto the beach; sit on the stunning roof terrace and watch the sun set or enjoy lazy days on the beach or exploring the many rock pools at low tide.

Amazing place and Amazing view's.

Great holiday and Penkenna is brilliantly situated by the sea with views to die for. Balcony was ideal for evening BBQ's.

Penkenna House is a house full of character in the perfect position but it has some issues.

Penkenna House is a beautiful house in an idyllic position. There were some issues regarding cleanliness, maintenance and a rather unusual selection of cutlery, crockery and utensils. Be prepared to use an Aga for cooking. The garden wasn’t dog secure when we visited, as the gate was damaged. We felt an electric kettle would be an asset.

The furniture is an eclectic mix of modern and antique but we unfortunately disagreed with the description of ‘comfortable’ apart from the beds. Not one chair, in the entire house, was suitable for an elderly guest and bench seating in the dining room is not ideal for more senior guests. A very rickety wardrobe in one bedroom and a chest of drawers where one handle came off in my hands and a part of the bottom of the drawer missing was not expected for the cost of the holiday.

There were also issues with the two parking places. There is a removable bollard supposedly to keep this area private but locals lift it out to use this to access the beach. Not ideal as it is narrow and we were worried about our cars getting damaged. A visit at 11.30 pm by a large van with the driver taking out the bollard and asking us to move our cars was disturbing.

The views are breathtaking, especially at sunset and we enjoyed watching the surfers from the house. The balcony is a real bonus and perfect to enjoy the views. Again there were maintenance issues with the decking and steps.

We enjoyed our visits to the two cafes and the pub which is very popular. Crackington Haven has some great walks as well as a great beach for exploring the many rock pools.

Penkenna House has so much potential and we loved our holiday, despite all the problems mentioned. We have been told they are intending to improve the cleaning and maintenance and sort out the many dusty and dirty items in the pantry which would make a huge difference. The parking issues are hard to resolve so be prepared for constant use by others.
The information booklet was out of date and we couldn’t find the Guest Book. It isn’t ideal for more senior guests.
However, Penkenna House is a house with history and couldn’t be in a better position for breathtaking views and access to the beach and cafes.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at Penkenna. We are sorry about the cleanliness issue and did offer the cleaner to come back and clean, which you declined. Penkenna is a very eclectic property and does have some quirky things in it, we do clearly state that there is an AGA and a 2 ring hob for use at the property in our description. The gate, I agree should have been sorted out before your stay, it had not been reported to the office so we were not aware, our issue. The parking area is big enough for 2 cars and we also state clearly in the welcome folder that locals do use the slipway, unfortunately we are not able to do anything about that which i know you have mentioned above, it comes with the location of the property being practically on the beach, I am not sure why the Welcome folder was not visible, If I had been made aware of that I would have got one over to you right away. It still sounds like you enjoyed your stay, which is really important to us and we hope the Gesture of Goodwill payment helped. We do hope to welcome you back in the future, we are always happy to take calls to help tailor holidays to individual needs, we are a small business and like to take the time to ensure everyone has a nice holiday.

Family winter break.

What an interesting house - plenty of room for the family to do their own thing or be together, nice to sit with the warmth of the Aga for breakfast. I do love through-toasted bread with my breakfast!
View of the beach is lovely to wake up to. The Coombe Barton Inn being so close is a plus - great food, good beer and really friendly. The two cafes were nice to have for a coffee & snack out on occasions.
Managed to get our third car through the gate into the paved area, but very glad the car wasn’t any bigger. (a Jetta). Everyone seemed to settle in very quickly.

There were loo rolls when we arrived but not all things listed in ‘Welcome pack’ - we had done a basic shop in Bude first luckily. Never found out whether the Sky box was supposed to work, but we had taken our own TV stick with us. Daughter is keen (ridiculously keen) winter swimmer and loved the beach - the garden shower had sprung its compression joints in the winter frosts, (didn’t know you allowed a frost in Cornwall!), so she had to shower inside after sand removal with a bucket of warm water from the scullery!
A refreshing week away for us all in lovely surroundings.
