Located 2.5miles from Drumlanrig Castle on beautiful farmland within the Queensberry Estate, Ghillie’s Cottage offers a relaxing rural break for up to 8 people (& 2 dogs!) in a beautiful 4-bedroom cottage.

We had an amazing stay for Easter this year. The house is really lovely inside out and is in a stunning position, feeling remote yet not actually being far from amenities in Thornhill which is also worth a visit.
Drumlanrig castle is definitely worth a visit and was perfect for the kids. Also a nice touch getting fee entry to the play area and gardens during our stay. Directions to the castle would be beneficial though as Google had us driving around the lanes for some time.

Thanks for having us, we will be back!

Loved our family stay in this wonderful well maintained cottage. It was warm and cozy.
The only feedback we would have:
realising it is a self catering stay, a couple of more toilet rolls would be advisable. For a cottage that sleeps 8 and only 3 rolls available for 2 bathrooms is a bit poor.
Bottle opener was missing, so we had to drive to town to buy one.
Lots of dead flies in all the window sills, its country side, so it is not a problem, just not a lovely welcome with lots of dead flies everywhere.
For 3 nights the logs provided was not enough we had to buy more in the village.
On a positive note:
Very clean, lovely warm and cozy, very comfy beds, pillows and bedlinen. Towels high quality, fancy wine glasses, well decorated it felt like a home from home.
Garden fenced so ideal for the dog. Well maintained and a bathroom that is everyone's dream.
We will definitely come back again.....

A fantastic place to stay, ideal if you have dogs since the garden is very large and enclosed. The house was very clean and comfortable, we couldn't have asked for more. We would not hesitate to return.

It’s a lovely place. We had a wonderful visit and would recommend. (Bring your own corkscrew, or actually if the team read this then I would imagine they will find one)
PS - otherwise very well kitted kitchen and the rest of the house

Four of us had a very pleasant and comfortable stay. A lovely location in quiet countryside and close to the village of Thornhill. The cottage is spacious and beautifully furnished.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ghillies
Cottage. We loved the peace, the walks in the castle grounds, the tour of the castle and an evening meal at the BQA in Thornhill.

This was the second time that my best friend and I have stayed here. The cottage is luxurious and beautiful and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We were surprised that even more updating has been done - we thought it was fabulous last year but there's new furniture (fabulous brand new chesterfields) and the kitchen and bathrooms have been completely refurbished!
Please note - the gates have been freshly stained so take care leaning over them to hook them closed!
The location so close to the castle is great for walking although our usual trails have been largely closed due to the horrendous storms Scotland suffered earlier in the year. In fact as keen walkers and mountain bikers, we were a little disappointed to not be notified that the walks and mountain bike tracks are all closed whilst the clear up continues. We hope they'll be open again soon.
We'll definitely be back. Thanks to all at the Drumlanrig estate.

Ghillies cottage is perfect, gorgeous views and the cottage had everything we needed. My children loved the garden games and had run playing badminton.

The bathroom and roll top was lovely.

Only negative thing to say was that we had to pick up three dog poos in the garden on our arrival, and the kitchen had a few flies in. Other than that I would recommend the cottage as a base to go walking or cycling. Not a lot else in the area, drumlanrig castle was fabulous

Excellent out of the way cottage, but close enough to local amenities. Fantastic enclosed garden for dogs and children. Ideal for a group of friends or a large family. very relaxing and quiet. This is our 5th visit to Ghillies and would recommend it to anyone.
