We stayed at curlew for my partners birthday which is also New Year’s Eve. The host contacted us whilst we were en route to let us know she had been in to turn the accommodation around to allow us to check in 2 hours early and to put the heating and the lights on due to heavy snow. The accommodating was spotless with everything you would need for a few days stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and have already recommended to friends and family.

Booked the Curlew Shepherds hut for a couple of nights. What a beautiful location and the accommodation was spotless with everything you need. I would recommend downloading what three words to find location. I will definitely be back.

We had two nights in Curlew Cottage.

The hut is comfortable and very cosy - there was a storm on our second night, so it was well tested.

The kitchen is well appointed and the shower is a decent size with plenty of hot water.

We were welcomed warmly by Yvonne and we knew we could get in touch if required.

Hope to be back!

An absolutely amazing 1 night stay at the shepherds huts. We rented both as a last minute 1 night stay and I cannot fault it in the slightest. Everything was beyond expectations, the location, the views, the huts, the finishing touches, all absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to go back!

Lovely stay - despite weather - cosy wee cabin.

Fab short break - Scottish weather at its best four seasons in one day!!
Staff really attentive when there was a power cut caused by the thunderstorms.
Charming cabin and we quite enjoyed watching the wild weather whilst toasty and warm inside with the wood burner on.

Secluded shepherd hut (only 2!) hidden up a two mile dirt track in beautiful Atholl Estate with lovely walks and secret walled garden. Immaculate accommodation only five short miles from Pitlochry. Ideal location to get away into nature. Yvonne is super attentive and available for any questions. The surrounding farm is pure organic no pesticides or fertilizer used which is amazing. Well done as all farms should take note and follow suit as they have healthy cattle no need for vets every six weeks. Massive selling factor to me. I’ll be back every year as it is an amazing hidden gem of a place.

A staging post as we travelled further north.

This was our first time glamping, and we absolutely loved it. The hut was incredibly well equipped and beautifully positioned. The private firepit was fantastic.

A beautiful location up in the hills. Shepherds hut has great views and great facilities. Very comfortable. We had both huts for three of us and benefitted from fabulous weather. Lapwing is further up the hill but Curlew has privacy screens if sitting outside at the front. We only had one car between us so obviously came and went together. We’re glad not to have other guests driving along the single track in the opposite direction!

Really enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Shepherd's hut. The location is absolutely stunning and the grounds around the Shepherd's hut were beautiful - so relaxing and peaceful. We did a 6 hour hike just leaving the hut and turning left up the shepherd's trial and loved every minute of it.
The accommodation was so clean and cozy and I loved the attention to detail and interior design. There was so much firewood left out for us which was really appreciated. I loved that we could bring enjoy the space whilst bringing our dog also.
The only disappointment I had was that I found it difficult to make contact with the person who's contact details were provided if we had any questions or any problems. I emailed the person about a specific query and never received confirmation or acknowledgement or response which was really disappointing. Aside from that though everything was perfect and I will definitely return for a short stay. Many thanks.

We absolutely loved our stay in the shepherd's hut. It was just what we needed to destress and recharge. What a beautiful environment to stay in when you can hear the sheep and the cows and very little else!

The hut was extremely comfy and clean. The bed was unreal - the pillows etc. we're soooo comfy, we had an excellent couple of nights of sleep. There was a good amount of seating with the little sofa, dining chairs and table that could be moved around to where you needed it. We also appreciated the amount of plug sockets there is! Everything we needed was provided for us and it was a nice touch that the fire in the log burner had been set up ready to be lit. We couldn't believe how cosy we were for the whole of our stay - whether with the underfloor heating or the log burner. All of the facilities were fantastic inside and out. I can imagine that outside serves better in the summer when it's a little hotter but we thoroughly enjoyed using the fire pit. It maybe would have been good to have a couple of blankets to use out there to keep cosy.

The location was great - so peaceful and serene (and close to Pitlochry for all of the restaurants and amenities) but it would have been good if we were warned about the condition of the road up to the hut. We were very glad we had my small SUV as it coped ok with the potholes etc., if we had driven in my partners low car we definitely wouldn't have gotten up the road in one piece! The directions could have also been a little clearer. Because we were looking for a fork in the road we nearly turned off on a few occasions which would have been incorrect.

We hunted when we arrived for a welcome guide that would give details of how things worked and what to do in an emergency but we couldn't find one.

A good little selection of tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper was provided in the kitchen but some cooking oil would have been great too to save buying a bottle.

Also, I hadn't seen details on the website that a hairdryer was included so had brought my own - it would have been great if I knew I could leave this at home.

On our last morning, a gardener was strimming quite early. With check out at 10am it would have been quite nice if this didn't start until that time as it was rather noisy.

Despite all of these little details noted we would 100% book again and recommend to others. We had an absolutely fantastic experience - thank you!

Lovely, cosy and comfortable shepherd hut on the moor. The hut is much more spacious than we thought and the use of space is excellent with cupboards and space under the bed for a case. Very well thought out and executed. It was clean and options of the log burner and heating meant we were never cold. Sadly it rained most of the time we were there but that didn’t stop us exploring the moor which was beautiful. Road up to the accommodation is a bumpy track so just need to take your time and be careful with pot holes but worth it for the view and peace and quiet. Directions given were very accurate and any questions I had before our stay were answered extremely quickly. Definitely be back.

We loved our stay at the Curlew hut. The location is oustanding, and despite being only 20 minutes from the centre of Pitlochry, it really does feel like a super remote hideaway. Customer service leading up to our stay was lovely.
Everything was wonderful so I'm keen to give you a couple of things that either didn't go so well or some changes that would make it perfect!

- you may wish to make it plain that the track is not suitable for cars that are either low or have very low profile tyres. I had visions of someone in their fancy motor trying to make their way up the track! Thankfully my trusty wee Ford Focus managed just fine.

- a wee bottle of cooking oil never goes wrong in self-catering properties. I know covid changed things in terms of leaving open containers etc but why not decant some oil into a small kilner bottle (again we were okay - just thinking of others)

- I'm not sure if you're familiar with What3Words but it's a very clever app that makes the world easier to navigate. It is the world divided into 3 metre squares with each given a unique three word code. It is basically a verbal way of sharing a google maps pin, and is far easier than sharing long/lat coordinates. It is especially effective for rural properties and although it wouldn't supersede your directions as not everyone will use What3Words, for those that do - it makes it an absolute doddle. For example, the front door of the Lapwing hut is finds.shortcuts.submerged, the entry to the estate is looms.healthier.gladiator These words are entered into the What3Words app which will then switch to Google or Apple Maps for navigation. Worth a look and may be useful around the rest of the estate; https://what3words.com/ways-to-use

- in your directions where you provide the key code; you should provide the location of the lockbox. I didn't enjoy juggling bags searching for it on the other side of the steps.

- the biggest issue we faced was this; I booked the Curlew Hut after perusing both huts on your website. Here is the listing for the Curlew https://atholl-estates.co.uk/stay-with-us/huts-and-cabins/curlew-shepherd-hut/ (blue) here is the listing for the Lapwing https://atholl-estates.co.uk/stay-with-us/huts-and-cabins/lapwing-shepherd-hut/ (brown) I booked the Curlew because I preferred the blue and the colour was symbolic to the reason for our visit - so from then, in my head, the Curlew is the blue hut. Upon arrival we parked in the Curlew space and headed for the blue hut. Not only was it a trial to find the lockbox, then the code didn't work. We were tired, loaded with bags and it wasn't what we needed - we each tried for a couple of minutes. It wasn't until I had phoned the emergency estate number that my boyfriend spotted the name on the side of the steps of the blue hut was "Lapwing". We felt a bit silly for not reading it but why would we? The Curlew, according to the lovely photos on your website, is the blue hut. You may wish to change that to avoid further confusion, inconvenience and disappointment.

So all in all - great place, would be keen to come back - just some wee, easy changes to make it a perfect experience from start to finish.

Beautiful hut, clean and cosy. Lovely views and really peaceful. I would note it is very remote, which is great if you want to get away from it all. On my first night the other hut was vacant though and I was a bit scared when it got dark being up there on my own, something for fellow solo travellers to bear in mind. Large fridge and good cooker so plenty room to take supplies for a few days. Nice shower and comfy bed. And plenty wood to keep the fire going, inside or out :)

A great short break in a cosy well equipped shepherd’s hut. We would stay here again.

We stayed 2 nights in Curlew hut and had a lovely and tranquil time. The accommodation felt quite luxurious! The views were wonderful. The hut provided everything that we needed. The bed was very comfortable.

There wasn’t any wifi and the phone signal was intermittent but we quite enjoyed the time to “switch off”.

The tap and shower water was untreated but there was bottled water provided for consumption. However, it felt a bit frustrating using plastic bottles of water, and water that wasn’t locally sourced (a Welsh brand, I think). Nevertheless, we boiled tap water to use for most of our stay to save using so much plastic.

The shepherds hut is very well laid out and make the most of a small space. There is everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The location is remote with wonderful views which we enjoyed greatly.

A couple of down sides to the property is the bedding was feather down which I am allergic to so we made a mad dash to tesco in Blairgowrie to buy new bedding as there was no alternative available. The other point is the house keeping deposit was not returned timeously, nearly a month after the event and many emails which I thought was poor customer service.

We won this our stay on Facebook and it was the most magical treat! Beautiful location and so peaceful, truly another world. The bed was so comfy, it was hard to get up and exploring the gorgeous surroundings. Unfortunately we couldn't get the fire pit working (we are townies!) but we still enjoyed a breathtaking night stargazing. Thank you for this wonderful wonderful stay!

We had a fabulous 4 days in and around the area. The shephards hut was fabulous; exactly as it looks in the photos. Spotless and a stunning location.

Few things it would have been helpful to know:
- a number to call if there are any issues
- the heating guide in the hut as the signal is poor and unless you have downloaded it before you arrive you have to guess!
- That water wasn’t drinkable - a bottle is provided but that soon went.
- a lighter/ firelighters either to be available or to be informed to bring them
