This was our second trip to Alastair and Janet's lovely cottage in Portuairk, and one of a number of upcoming visits. The cottage is ideally situated overlooking the quiet and picturesque bay at Portuairk with ubioquitous views out to the small isles of Rum, Muck, Eigg and further afield on clear days to Skye. The cottage includes all you need for your stay and is extremely comfortable and homely, you are only around 5 miles from the nearest shop at Kilchoan (The Ferry Stores) which is superbly well stocked. The cottage is an ideal base for a completely disconnected break from the 9-5 w...more
We have stayed in Portuairk a few times and we love it. The views from Croft caravan were superb and we had another wonderful week exploring the western end of Ardnamurchan. The caravan, though compact had everything we could possibly need. I am sure we will be back!
As always, Rudh Dubh never fails to please. The stormy weather and high tides provided excitement and challenge. What could be better than a cozy log fire while the wind howls and the sea roars?
This was our second visit to The Byre. We really enjoy the comfortable, homely feel of The Byre which provides the ideal place to completely relax and change pace. We were originally booked for June but the Covid restrictions resulted in our booking being postponed to September. The customer care are support we experienced as we navigated our way through all of that was superb and friendly and gave us complete confidence that all would be well when we did finally get to use our booking.
As a couple, we were divided. I loved the isolation, my husband had reservations. The poor weather we (mostly) had was unfortunate too, although it didn't keep us in. The local scenery was stunning, the peace was wonderful. We heard buzzards in the evening and saw one sitting on a post by the road. Our dog loved the beaches at Portuairk and Sanna, he's a great rock pooler! We saw a seal at Portuairk and cormorants fishing off the pier at Kilchoan. Also deer by the property. Battling a force 7 gale at the lighthouse was....interesting! We enjoyed a trip to Tobermory, we like ferries!...more
This is an ideal cottage in a remarkably picturesque location. Fascinating to watch the rise and fall of the tides. It was clean and comfortable though perhaps the living room rug could do with cleaning. The cottage had the majority of equipment required for an enjoyable stay, an obvious exception being no clothes airer available. (A handy washing line and tumble drier were available but it rained a lot and most outdoor technical garments cannot be tumble dried.) There was no door between the living room and kitchen which was bit of a negative for me as cool air from the kitchen was impossible...more
Comraich is the perfect cabin for relaxing and recharging your batteries, very well kitted out and comfortable. 2nd time we have been and plan to go again in 2024.
Great central location, and very well equipped. Great to see the owners upgrading the facilities, new kitchen and decoration. Clean and very well presented, comfortable beds and furnishings. Would highly recommend staying here.
Strathconan is a lovely cosy cottage perfect for our getaway from it all holiday. It has amazing views across to the Isle of Mull from the front and you can look across to Ben Hiant out the back whilst you are washing up. Weather permitting it is lovely to sit on the porch or on the patio taking in views of both sea and mountains. The kitchen and bathroom looked to have been recently replaced which were great (although a dishwasher would have been good). Otherwise the furniture/fixtures etc were all very good and the house was probably better than the photo's showed when booking. Locatio...more
We stayed this time for our honeymoon. Croit Mhorags location is peaceful with stunning views from every window. Approx 1 mile to Sanna Bay. It’s extremely clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We cycled everywhere, including to Ardnamurchan lighthouse and to the Isle of Mull via the ferry. Glengorm Castle has an excellent cafe for lunch. Steadings Holidays make booking very easy online & all information required is provided. We will be back again!!
Ian's Lodge is in a lovely setting and is a really cosy holiday home which we enjoyed staying in. My main complaint was that the place needed a thorough deep clean. There were a lot of cobwebs and a lot of dust on lampshades. Under the cushions on chairs/sofa needed vacuuming. Also, the pull-out table was full of crumbs inside. I wiped inside the bathroom cabinet before using it as had toothpaste on shelves. We also opted to bring our own bedding but this highlighted that the pillows/duvets were dirty. There was a mattress protector on the double bed which we washed because it was not at all c...more
