This former barn is now an attractive 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage. With a 45ft open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen it has a wealth of charm and character.. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms (on en-suite). A king size double, a twin and a triple. We can also supply a cot, high chair and stair gate.

We have an early booking discount of 10% on the 2024 summer holidays.

We had a wonderful family holiday staying at La Grange - my parents, and our family of four (two children 6 and under). The house (and the site in general) is beautiful, well maintained and well equipped, and the surrounding countryside is absolutely idyllic. We enjoyed cycling along the river and the kids loved the pool and exploring the enormous garden! We found our way to lots of local attractions through the very helpful guestbook, such as the markets and a medieval living history museum, and the wonderfully varied beaches of South Brittany were easily accessible for a day trip. Highly recommended! We would love to return one day.

This must be one of the most tranquil spots in France. Surrounded by trees and nature and a river that you share only with otters. We had such a restorative week and will be recommending Le Grange and all these cottages to everyone we know!

A unique and carefully restored property in a beautiful area. It was very clean with an excellent welcome pack. Our hosts looked after us well. The pool is a decent size and clean. We had a lovely holiday.

Perhaps the bathrooms and bedrooms would benefit from some attention but are still adequate

The situation is a reasonable distance from the coast but the immediate area is stunning. Many of the local restaurants were closed in mid September. We did enjoy a lovely meal out at the Chat Botté in Hennebont but booking was absolutely essential.

Due to the rural location, we did have quite a number of flies and hornets but that was to be expected. The internet did cause us a problem but that is again due to the rural location

Our hosts were very kind and attentive

Totally magical find!

We have just come back from our stay and it was just the most magical place. We were lucky both with the weather and the fact that we had the whole place to ourselves. The farm is remote and felt off grid. I know the owners are working on improving connectivity, but once we had got our head around the fact that it was currently non existent, we rather enjoyed the fact noone could get hold of us and once we found the cafe at the end of the valley had wifi we could do anything there we were fine. It was very relaxing and basically rural France at its best. We popped in to get baguettes in the morning, did paddle boarding in the river and some walks and swimming in the pool etc. During the week there were a few things missing in the house but the owners did their best to resolve problems and the staff on site were helpful too. It was expensive in comparison to other 3 bed rural holiday houses in Brittainy with a pool, that I looked at, and they were mostly closer to the coast. But, I felt it looked like such a special place and I was not wrong, so worth spending a bit more. Unfortunately cut things short as we had to get home a couple of days early and so that made it more expensive for us, but that is not the property's fault and so overall I would definitely come back. What would be awesome would be to fine 4 friends and take a cottage each! Thanks for the stay

1. Pros
A) Stunning location
B) Nicely presented property which is well equipped
C) The pool is a real bonus in hot weather for the children
D) Jeannie is very helpful, but, you will need decent French to communicate with her
E) Blavat cycle hire is a must as it is great value, bikes in good condition and they deliver to your door. Cycling along the Blavet was a joy.
D) Reachable after a day ferry from Portsmouth/Poole. Four and a half hours drive along good roads from Caen/Cherbourg

2. Cons (Neither directly attributable to the property)
A) Wi-fi is inadequate, especially if you need to keep in touch with work or family
B) There are few, if any, decent restaurants open for dinner until you get to Lorient

Thank you for all those kind comments and we are delighted that you enjoyed your holiday. Regarding the two negatives, the wi fi is currently ok for emails and browsing the internet. It does not support streaming. However, Fibre is hopefully coming in the next couple of months (autumn 2022) so if all goes to plan the speed will be much faster in 2023. For restaurants. We have lots of suggestions in our house book - both locally and further afield so there are plenty much closer to us than Lorient. In our part of France, many restaurants close Sunday evening and Monday and the main meal time is lunchtime when restaurants are at their busiest. We will update our house book with the details of the nearest restaurants.

We stayed initially for 10 days then extended by 3 days ( better ferry). Would have stayed another week to two as the weather was excellent. So relaxing and with the river at the gate, cycling for 6 hours (return) was wonderful alongside the river.
Bottom line: my wife asked ‘how much would you think they would want to sell to us?’ Reply was ‘ more than we could afford’.
Been back a week and would go back today, (retired). Impressed with the quality of kitchen utensils/integral washing machine/dishwasher etc. One small winge was that for my wife (who has had a hip replacement) the toilets are up the stairs.
But otherwise we would have moved in for a very long stay (if we could afford to)
But please do not go when I next wish to as the silence of being by ourselves with the song birds and the river with the evening sunset was sublime.

We have now visited Select Cottages 3x in the last 3 years, call us boring but we hang so much on a couple of weeks away with the family it just needs to work and for us La Grange and Brittany ticks all the boxes.

We are a family of 4 which include 2 tired and overworked parents (the norm) and 2 very energic boys of 8 and 10 years of age. Quite simply I book La Grange because of its location (stunning), service (first class) and location (Brittany has so many things to do).

I would challenge anyone to arrive and not be blown away by the location. The River Blavet is well I’ll struggle to describe it you’ll have to see it which is easy as it’s at the end of the garden. Casually spot otters, kingfishers, cormorants and fish if you like and, in the evening away from the citylight go stargazing and maybe you’ll see an owl…….

The property comfortably fits us, a little decadent for 4 as it would easily sleep the 7+1 quoted. It’s well-appointed and encourages cooking and eating as a family inside and out. The bonus of La Grange as well as its size is a private garden / eating area not overlooked which is a nice option. We have also stayed at Le Fournil, a smaller option sleeping 4 +1 also lovely and nicely positioned particularly for families with smaller children as you open out your cottage onto the ample grounds.

I could ramble on for many more paragraphs on the various activities you can get up to; markets, canoeing, fishing, medieval villages, wake parks, beeches (so quiet), food (obviously) but I won’t, come and explore Brittany yourself you won’t be disappointed and La Grange and Select Cottages give you the perfect platform to do so. My only extra tip is relax and don’t put yourself under pressure to do everything there is to do. The temptation is to go out every day just don’t forget to enjoy and chill at the property, Brittany early evening sun around the pool is what it’s all about.

I’d highly recommend La Grange or any of the properties on the site. I only book places that keep on delivering and don’t rest on their laurels and the biggest complement I can give is that we’re going back again next year. Call us boring but in these days post COVID I need to know my money guarantees an excellent holiday and La Grange certainly does.

We had a wonderful time at La Grange. The house was lovely and spacious, the surroundings were beautiful and the grandchildren enjoyed the pool and the swings. As ever, Jeanine was friendly and helpful. The gardens were beautifully kept and are her pride and joy. She delivered a rose for each lady every few days, a lovely touch. We made some nice day trips to Carnac, Plouay, Henebont, La Rochelle en Terre and Josselin.
