Found the property comfortable, homely and very clean and warm. everything we needed was provided.
It was unusual not to be able to get Any Radio reception inside the property, and more importantly No mobile signal indoors and around the property we had to climb the hill above or drive to nearby village. This was on EE and O2 networks. We feel it should have been pointed out when booking in case of emergency situation. It should be possible to get phone connections via the internet /wifi but my phones would not accept these. We had to contact the Caretaker twice firstly as one of the heaters (bathroom) was not working, and then we locked ourselves out with key inside so had to drive to get a signal.Thanks to Fiona for sorting us out.
Enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders.

This is a lovely cottage centrally located to visit north Devon yet quiet. It has all the things you need and is well maintained.

We stayed at Crooked Lake cottage at Easter last year when the weather was much better! However, this didn't stop us from having an amazing holiday. Fantastic location, with loads of things to do in the local area.
The cottage is charming, unusual and really comfortable. Well equipped with a beautiful garden and stream running through. Last year, we paddled in the stream but with the rain this year, it was all a bit faster so we just enjoyed listening to the water and watching the huge number of different birds in the garden.
Huge thanks to the team at My Favourite Cottages as they pulled out all the stops to help us book this holiday. On the morning of our holiday, we were originally due to travel to a different part of the UK, but our holiday was cancelled by another company. We got in touch with Ben (I think) at My Favourite Cottages on a Saturday morning during the Easter weekend and he made all the arrangements with the owners and secured a booking for us. Fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful.

Cottage well prepared with cream tea left for our arrival and milk in the fridge. Rural location but it is on a busy road. Lovely pub in Parkham which does great home cooked food.

Spent one week at this beautiful, cosy, well equipped cottage standing in lovely well stocked grounds. Lots of bird life visit the garden and the feeders that are provided and we made sure we kept them well topped up as the squirrels feed there too in spite of the squirrel guards that are fitted. We were sorry to be leaving and hope to return one day.

Stunning cottage in a super location. Well equipped and a beautiful wood burner. The stream running through the garden was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the garden and outdoor space.
Fantastic location, near a cracking beach, really good pub and a decent supermarket.
Our only issue was the soft bed. For us, it was too soft and extremely uncomfortable but you can't win everything!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage had everything we wanted, and was very comfortable to be in. It is in a peaceful location and easy access to lovely places to visit.

Cottage exceeded our expectations, great accommodation, well equipped kitchen, lovely conservatory. Garden was a delight.
Our only complaints were:-
Heating-New electric heating system, but we were unable to control it, as the controls were locked. Came off and on, but never when you wanted it. Kitchen and dining room were permanently cold. It was an exceptionally cold week.
Outdoor seating would have benefited from recliners and cushions for the garden chairs.
Otherwise we couldn’t fault it, although you are a few miles from any amenities so bring provisions for your first night at least.

Escaping to this wonderful cottage after months of lockdown was a tonic. We had stayed there a few years ago but there was the cottage had been modernised with a lovely walk in shower and new furniture in the lounge.

Positives- Beautiful cottage- spacious in a stunning quiet setting. Enough space for family of 5. Everything one needed was provided. Caretaker left a few welcome essentials - lovely touch Beautiful garden with stream
Negatives- low ceilIngs downstairs- not ideal for under 6 feet - my son kept forgetting to duck. If making calls important - no signal. So not able to use mobile for making bookings. WiFi was available. Needed good airing and possibly curtains washed as musty smell. Electro heaters probably need replacing as dials too stiff - and not working at all in win bedroom.
If windows opened did attract excessive amount of flies. Probably needs a thorough spring clean several times a year - including ceilings, lamp shades etc

However I would certainly stay here again because the positive outweighs the cons. It really is a beautiful property - just in need of a bit of TLC.

We had a great stay in the cottage, plenty of space for five of us. The cottage is old and quirky with all the modern day facilities - all in perfect working order. Beautiful gardens with plenty of outdoor seating. The location is an excellent base for exploring North Devon and Cornwall is just up the road. Would definitely stay again.

Unfortunately our planned week stay was cut short (3 days) by the need to return home early. The cottage was brilliant and the wildlife very entertaining.
A very special THANKS to Clare who was most helpful before our arrival,and during our stay. She gave us information about places to go and where to shop. We hope to return again next year.

We spent Christmas at Crooked Lake with our three adult children. We arrived to find the cottage looking very Christmassy with lots of lovely decorations which were much appreciated and some edible treats too. The cottage was comfortable, very well equipped and once we'd set the storage heaters, very cosy. We didnt use the conservatory but the cottage was roomy and there was plenty of space for the five of us to spread out. We particularly enjoyed the sound of running water from the watercourse between the cottage and garden and would like to return in the summer months to see the garden in leaf. Would highly recommend.

crooked lake cottage is a cosy wonderful home from home with a large well kept garden which attracts a wide range of wildlife.
the cottage was built in the 17th century, as such there are low beams and doors so care must be taken. there is good wi-fi & the
tv picture was fine whilst we were there. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of bedding and the kitchen is well stocked with everything needed for a great holiday. All in all a fantastic holiday cottage with a large garden in a peaceful part of north devon
