Positioned directly across from Knavesmire and the world renowned York Racecourse and just a 15 minute stroll to the ancient walls surrounding the city, this cottage is so well situated.

we didn’t stay at the property - 10 minutes after our arrival, we moved to a hotel for one night, then the very next day the fantastic (really, so good) team at Stays York found us a more appropriate property - we are thrilled to bits with the efficient and caring service they provided and the quality of the new place.

chestnut cottage has…potential…as a home or rental property. but as a vacation stay, we found it to be depressing, inside and out. it was surface clean, but only as far as a tired property can be cleaned. skirtings damaged, wallpaper marked and grim, window frames and room corners built up with grime. broken skirtings, bathroom tiles, fire place. the outside areas, too, were over grown, weedy, dirty. despite the brightly coloured pieces of furniture in the living room, the whole place felt grubby, shabby and unloved. location was pleasant opposite the racecourse and a gentle walk to the city but on a very busy road, so definitely traffic noise. leaving this negative review in the hope that it will inspire the owners to chuck some £££ at what is potentially a lovely little house that needs attention.
