What a place to stay for not just looking at the aurora, If you like the experience of wild windy weather in a rugged landscape this is the place, We could not fault any thing about the place or stay from booking to actually staying there. Just looking out of the windows the views were excellent. The light house has every thing you need including extra heaters for the colder weather the kitchen is fully stocked with all the utensils you will need for cooking. Stayed here a number of times (this was our fourth stay), the property has had very little done to it in the 5+ years we have been coming so the interior is getting a bit tired. The property would also benefit from having WiFi as the phone signal is poor at best (though it does have a pay phone for emergency calls, and also incoming calls). The biggest disappointment this year was the addition of frosted window protectors on the seaward side, so no sea view from the back bedrooms, no standing with binoculars looking out to sea, no checking for Northern Lights without going outside. Frank the custodian is fantastic and welcoming when you arrive. The property has two double rooms and a twin room, all of good sizes. The kitchen is small but reasonable, and the lounge is fine although the DVD player remote doesn't work. All the rooms are warm. The bathroom is small and cold and the shower is poor and weak. However the location is spectacular.
it is a ten minute drive / 60 min walk from the ferry terminal, and the return cost for a car and 1 passenger to cross is about £19 - worth budgeting for if you plan to cross to the mainland every day. As foot passengers it is £5...more
