Recently restored to both a tasteful and beautiful standard, Sycamore Cottage is a gorgeous former farm cottage featuring spectacular views and steeped in rich history, creating a characterful feel throughout the cottage. Sleeping 4 guests across 2 bedrooms, Sycamore Cottage has a lovely open-plan kitchen and dining area with a wood burning stove. A large south west facing garden, with seating for 4, receives sun for most of the day during the summer and there is off-street parking for 2 vehicles.The property is pet free and offers free Wi-Fi throughout. Located just 1.5 miles from the quaint village of Catton, with an authentic local pub, and the larger Allendale is just 4 miles away with a small independent supermarket, butcher, chemist, post office, two pubs and several tea rooms, Sycamore Cottage makes for the perfect rural retreat.

This is the third time we have stayed at Sycamore cottage and it never disappoints. Not one but two open fires providing a warm and welcoming place. Mary and Phil are amazing hosts, there when we needed help and otherwise they give us the space to relax and unwind.
Views across the valleys are amazing and with a clear sky, this will enabled you to star watch... a really great experience. We look forward to our next visit.

We had a lovely stay at Sycamore Cottage. The hosts were very welcoming, and have thought of everything in making the cottage a perfect home from home. The kitchen is well-equipped, the beds and sofas are comfy. All spotlessly clean with lovely attention to detail. The location is very peaceful, but well-located for walking and visiting the Northumberland National Park and Hadrian's Wall.

Sycamore Cottage is a real gem of a place. Mary & Phil have thought of everything to make a visitors stay as welcoming and comfortable as possible from the welcome hamper of Northumbrian produce to the home made bread, cake and biscuits which were most appreciated.
The cottage is very well equipped and the beds are super comfortable. The views from the cottage are amazing and there are some great walks very near by. We absolutely loved the area and hope to return in the future. A big thank you to Mary and Phil for making our stay perfect.

We had a fantastic stay with our two young children over the bank holiday weekend. The house was gorgeous and had everything we needed for the weekend. Everything is very comfortable and well thought out. The view is spectacular and there is a lovely garden to admire it from.
We appreciated the high chair, stair gate and kids cutlery being supplied as well as the hamper with lots of goodies.

If you like a remote (actually very easy to get to) quiet spot in the countryside then this is the place to stay !

The house is immaculate.

A beautiful hamper on arrival with fresh baked bread, cake and cookies!

To sum up , this place is by far the best accommodation my partner and I have rented in 13 years of travelling together

A lovely, tastefully furnished, well equipped cottage in a rural location. It was blessed with beautiful views of the Allen Valley. Owner Mary gave us a warm welcome just after our arrival along with a generous, quality welcome pack. Not sure if it was a feature of the greater area or just a reflection of the time of year but the sparse traffic was a joy.

We spent 4 wonderful nights at this cottage. The home was absolutely beautiful, from the decor to the small touches from the hosts- it made it truly special. Mary baked us fresh bread, cookies and a cinnamon loaf, as well as spoiling us to a bottle of champagne for new year, so thoughtful and really made our stay. The surroundings of the cottage are idyllic, so peaceful and cosy, it really was the best end to our Christmas holidays. We will be back!

I noticed that in your review you mentioned that the main shops were about 10 miles away. However, I wanted to clarify that shops are located just 4 miles from the house. We had a wonderful mid-week break at this beautiful cottage. The sunrise views are stunning. Spotlessly clean and well equipped. The owners are friendly, helpful and on hand. Great location as a base for visiting lots of the attractions in Northumberland. I highly recommend!
