Our family had an absolutely wonderful time at Wood Cottage. The view from the property is magical; the layout of the property is so well thought out, the kitchen equipped with anything you could possibly need, and the decor just feels like "home". The welcome pack was also possibly the most generous we've ever been gifted, thank you!

My husband and I are always busy and we needed to have a weekend of peace and quiet to rejuvenate. Wow! we could see from the website that the Wood Cottage had great views but nothing prepared us for the absolutely amazing views here. The cottage is so homely and comfortable and it is just other worldly sitting gazing out of the huge glass windows to the valley below and on to the Cheviot Hills. We would thoroughly recommend staying here. The shops, cafes and restaurants of Rothbury are only 8-10 ins drive away as well as the beautiful riverside walk. We would definately return here in the future.

A beautiful cottage that’s comfortable, spacious, brilliantly laid out, very well equipped and with stunning views over the vale to the Simonside Hills. It has lovely gardens, is very private and gives a real feeling of closeness to nature (helped by the sighting of deer and a hare in the garden); even the walks from the cottage have stunning views and a sense of wonderful remoteness. The small nearby village Thropton has a fine pub (the 3 Wheat Heads) with a brilliant beer garden, plus there’s a decent Spar and petrol station. The location provides a great base for exploring the many castles, beaches and walks across Northumberland.

I returned to Northumberland for the first time in 30 years and it was my wife’s first visit. Wood Cottage was absolutely perfect- just the right size and really beautifully finished. Immaculately cleaned and a lovely welcome pack. Loads of maps and information available. The views were breathtaking and the location ideal for visits up into the Cheviots and down to the coast. We had a full on week with delicious meals on the coast and ate locally in the 3 Sheaves Heads and the Star Inn (which was excellent). Visited Craigside and was disappointed that most of the house was closed (with no reduction in cost). Bamburgh and Craster were well worth a visit.

Wood Cottage has the most unbelievable view, which is what drew us to the property. It did not disappoint! The cottage was extremely well-equipped, clean, spacious and cosy. The host was in touch on the day of our arrival to give some information and tips, which was very welcoming. One of these was to tell us about The Spar supermarket and petrol station in Thropton, which is large and very handy. The property was decorated for Christmas, and exactly as we had hoped for Christmas away from home. The garden is beautiful and completely secure: our dog enjoyed all the places to sniff and explore. We made use of the log burner, which added to the cosiness and Christmas feel. And we all enjoyed walking through the wood at the back of the house and up onto the moor as well as being half an hour from the sea at Alnmouth. A perfect location and a lovely cottage!

It was lovely to receive a call from Vanessa, the owner, to wish us a happy holiday and give us some suggestions and ideas for places to eat, walk and visit while we were there.

The cottage was easy to find with great instructions in the online welcome pack - and on arrival was warm, spotlessly clean, and comfortable with a great range of equipment in the kitchen and throughout the house. The whole place felt homely and inviting and the view out over the valley was absolutely stunning-

The welcome basket was lovely as were the little thoughtful touches like dog treats and food for the bird feeders -
The beds were comfortable and there were ample fluffy towels and lots of hot water in the excellent showers -

Although the weather wasn’t great we had a really good holiday, taking trips out to Alnwick, Seahouses, Lindisfarne, and a boat trip around the Farne islands, the cottage is really well placed to explore the area. We barely scratched the surface of the area and hope to be back.

Last minute break with 3 kids and dog. Wonderful setting, peaceful and close (walking distance) to excellent pub and amazing spar shop with everything you could want. Down the road from Cragside which is a wonderful visit.
Cottage, clean, comfortable and well stocked. Has everything you could want and more.Views amazing and good walks from the cottage. Host was lovely, very organised and responsive when slight glitch with wi-fi, which was easily sorted. Some information in the cottage information pack needs updating.

We had a lovely relaxing stay and would be keen to come back. Northumberland is an amazing place with lots to see and do and many places are dog friendly. (Not Alnwick castle though). Only slight potential issue was that the site details said toiletries were provided. There was only hand wash and soap, but fortunately we had taken shampoo etc so not a problem. Kitchen well stocked though with lots of basics, (oil, salt &pepper etc) unexpected and very helpful and appreciated thank you. Welcome hamper also very useful and enjoyed.
