We were very happy with everything about our holiday and would recommend the accommodation and area to anyone. The only thing that concerned us was the heating. We were cold and even when we turned up the thermostat it didnt stay on very long.

As I explained to you during your stay, if you keep switching the boiler off at the wall, the heating or hot water will not work, so the house begins to get cold. I showed you how to work the heating and turn the temperature up if you felt chilly. I asked you if you understood, and you confirmed that you did. I told you to call me if you were experiencing any further problems, and you never mentioned any additional issues, even when I spoke to you in person on two or three occasions. I'm glad that apart from this issue, you enjoyed your stay with us, and I hope to see you again soon.

We had the pleasure of staying at Clauchan Farm in July this year, and it's safe to say that it was one of the best holidays we've had in a long time. Iain and Jackie were both very welcoming hosts, the Middle Byre was lovely to stay in (and huge!), and there was lots to explore in the surrounding areas, which we barely scratched the surface of. Having the hot tub there meant a relaxing end to any busy days as well. Highly recommended as somewhere that's peaceful and relaxing, but still with plenty to do nearby.

We had such a lovely restful stay. The accommodation was lovely, clean, and spacecious. The views are exceptional and add to the beautiful surroundings we were in. The Hot Tub was wonderful, it was well maintained every day by Iain who runs Clauchan Holiday Cottages.

We were travelling as a family of 6 with elderly parents. The cottage suited us perfectly as all rooms were on the ground floor. Parents bedroom had en suite walk in wet room which suited them perfectly, one other bedroom with en suite and third bedroom had bathroom close by. Cottage was very spacious with good sized lounge, kitchen and conservatory. Hot tub was clean and used daily. Location was very peaceful, on cycle route 7 which was great for me and nice practically traffic free route to Gatehouse of fleet. Owner was always around for any problems. Perfect accommodation just wished we could have stayed longer than a week!

This is an amazing location with local dog walks through the woods. The bluebells were out in the woods and were beautiful. The cottage has plenty of space and facilities for family or friend groups, with wonderful views. There are a variety of places to visit in the area covering many interests and age differences. We love the area and Middle Byre is a perfect place to stay.

The cottage was clean, well equipped and spacious.
The cottage was in the middle of nowhere, which meant that it had wonderful views and starry skies with no light pollution. You could drive to Gatehouse of Fleet or the Laggan wedding venue in around 10 minutes.
There was an enclosed garden and plenty of space to park.
Any queries prior to the holiday were answered very promptly.

We originally booked this holiday for 2022, but we're due to one of our party being ill we had to ask for it to be transferred to 2023. This was no problem for the owner and we were very grateful to them.
The accommodation is great, very spacious and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. It is a beautiful area and we were blessed with good weather for the whole time we were there. Plenty of things to see and do, great for mountain bikers as there are numerous trails through forests as well.

A very comfortable week in very spacious accommodation. We found the front door lock tricky but it probably just needs lubrication and we missed not having the terrestrial TV channels. Otherwise it was first class.

The fact that this was our tenth time in the middle byre says it all, it is in such excellent position with outstanding views and Iain is a host who isn’t intrusive but there if needed. We had a wonderful weekend in the lovely spacious holiday house- loads of space for our little grandchildren and great entertainment for them watching the goats and farm cat. We booked Middle Byre, purely because we needed to be in this area for a wedding, and we have a disabled member of our party who is wheelchair bound. Middle Byre was the only option providing disabled facilities.
However, when we arrived, it was clear that Middle Byre completely fitted the bill and more. The house is huge! Much more space than expected, and in addition, a lovely sun room off the massive lounge, which made entertaining family easy. We had extended family visiting most days, sometimes as many as 16 of us, and at no time were we squashed together.
The kitchen is very large, with a large fridge freezer and dishwasher too.
There is outdoor furniture and a picnic table. Large garden with a washing line which meant I could get some laundry done before travelling home.
The place is really family friendly with play facilities on site for children, and some animals to go visit if you wish. Beautiful Belted Galloway herd in the next field, some goats and pigs in another. We also had a few visits from a very friendly little pup called Pawpy.
The hot tub is a nice touch too.
We didn’t really use the central heating as the weather was beautiful during our stay in September, however the owner had ensured it was on for our arrival, so we entered a very cosy welcoming house after a long drive. The water was also always piping hot.
All in all, I can say that we definitely hope to be back and we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else.

Sadly this holiday was cancelled due to covid national lockdown. We were offered ro rebook or full refund immediately with apologies from Ian even tho it was not his fault. We come here regularly and always book a year and more in advance. We have never had any issues with cleanliness or any problem at all. To say the place is faultless is pretty much accurate. Its our happy place and we love coming back again and again with our fur babies. We were devastated to have our holiday cancelled due to covid but take comfort knowing we will be able to go back when all the madness has stopped .

This is our second stay as a family and we’ve already booked our third for next year. The house is absolutely fabulous, it’s spacious, with 3/4 adults and 2 kids And a baby we never felt like we didn’t have our own space. The views are spectacular and the garden space and hot tub are simply wonderful. The kids can play safely in the enclosed garden or explore woodland walks on the doorstep. There’s loads for kids to do nearby and The Middle Byrd has become one of their favourite places in the world! Iain and Jackie are wonderful hosts and we’ve always felt so welcome. I couldn’t recommend their holidays cottages highly enough!

Yet again another fabulous stay at the cottages. I had to book last minute as sadly I had to attend my Dad's funeral in Kirkcudbright. Nothing was too much trouble, we arrived late at night to a warm and cosy cottage, with a beautiful bunch of flowers.
I would highly recommend these cottages for anyone wanting a friendly, welcoming, yet private stay. Great walks and lovely cycle routes too!

We hired 4 of the properties as the same time for a family get together. We all really enjoyed our stay. Lots of space for the kids to play out. House was really nice. Would stay here again.

We have just returned from a lovely, relaxing family break at Clauchan Holidays. This was our first visit to this part of the world and it will not be our last. The house is huge and very comfortable. The garden is massive and enclosed which was great for the kids and the dogs to run around in. We loved the hot tub and the cheeky goats that were our next door neighbours. The woods are just a short 2 minute walk away and we enjoyed our walk down to Gatehouse of Fleet where there were some great places to eat and drink. We will definitely return.

Great location. Peace and quiet, open views and an ideal base for seeing Dumfies and Galloway. For mountain bikers, four of the 7 Stanes are within an hour or so drive away.

We have been going to Clauchan Farm for about 20 years now but this was the first time staying in Middle Byre as it could accommodate our extended family. It is also wheelchair friendly with full wet room & a travel cot & high chair is also available upon request. It has everything you need with lots of space to relax inside & out overlooking spectacular views across the country side. Walks & cycle rides can start from the doorstep, with so much more a few minutes away & great for exploring too.

The accommodation is spacious, very well kept and in a fantastic location. With the hot tub, Lady Penelope the goat, Cream of Galloway down the lane, good golf courses nearby, you have a great place here. Thank you Iain for your friendly welcome and attention to detail.

Just back from a lovely holiday at Claughan farm. Middle Byre is such a comfortable house - an ideal base for touring the beautiful Galloway countryside. I really enjoyed the sun room and hot tub. The large enclosed garden was ideal for my dog.
There's plenty of wildlife to see in the area and goats, donkeys, pigs etc. around the farm.
I've already booked for the autumn.

Middle Byre Cottage is in a beautiful setting. If peace, quiet and tranquility is what you are looking for this cottage has it in bucketfuls. The cottage is excellent and spacious. It has a conservatory as well as a large lounge which means no one would be on top of one another. Very comfortably and tastefully furnished. Each bedroom has its own shower and toilet (2 en suite and one in corridor next to it) with one having a bath. The kitchen is well stocked with essential pots, pans, cutlery etc and spacious. Excellent fridge/freezer with huge capacity. Small dishwasher as well as washing machine and the obligatory cooker. Outside there is a very large enclosed space, plenty of room for at least 3 cars. Although we did not use the hot tub whilst staying, we did get to see how it works and know it would be a big plus for some people. One piece of advice would be, bring the essentials food wise or place an order online with a local supermarket to be delivered before arriving. This cottage had no provisions (ie milk, tea, coffee or any edibles) awaiting one’s arrival and the nearest shop is quite a distance away. Plenty to see and do if inclined that way. Lots of outside space for children and the cottage beside Byre have 4 friendly goats. We can recommend the Skyreburn Teapot (2/3 miles or 2 minutes in car) for snacks and delicious home baking. Small but worth visiting.

We were surprised by your comments regarding the lack of provisions as you were here on a self catering basis so unfortunately your groceries are not included in the cost of renting the house. We were also surprised by your comment about no shops being nearby. Gatehouse of Fleet is less than 5 minutes away and it has a supermarket so we are a little puzzled by this comment as we provide a list of all the local ameneties and things to see and do in our house manual. We would love to host you both again and hope to see you in the near future.

We recently enjoyed a 2 night mini break in Middle Byre. The house is huge and finished to a lovely standard. The hot tub is excellent and the views from the house are stunning. We wanted to come back in the summer but sadly the house is fully booked. Maybe next year.

We rented a couple of houses at Clauchan Holiday cottages for a family get together. Set just outside the village of Gatehouse of Fleet, the holiday cottages have stunning views of the surrounding hills. Middle Byre was great with its hot tub and Sky TV and Netflix. The customer service is also great as the owner lives on site so if we ever need anything he was only a text message away. Would certainly go back.

What weekend we had location, facilities accomodation all fantastic. 45 mins walk in Gatehouse of Fleet was one of the highlights of the weekend. If you want a quite weekend away I would recommend coming here. We are looking to come back sometime this year we had such a good time.

We were made very welcome and given clear instructions before our trip regarding directions, keys etc. I shared the Middle Byre with my family - 5 of us, as we were attending a wedding. Other family members were staying in the Barn. We all got together in the evening pre-wedding and enjoyed our comfortable surroundings. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location for all we wanted to do for a few days away with three children .
House is a byre conversion and situated on a working farm although this did not interfere with our break .
Good rural quiet setting but close to main road and amenities .
Owner close by if any problems .
Hot tub on sight was a bonus and clear evenings meant great starry night skies .
I would recommend this for a base in the area for a large family .
