Well this is the second time we have stayed at the Stable at Clauchan. It certainly did not disappoint we had a check in time of 5pm but because I misjudged times when traveling I chanced my luck for an early check in and Iain and Jackie were very accommodating and let us in a bit early.
The accommodation was spotless and ready to move in. I will suggest if you want to get in early please pre organise an early check in as I have for the next visit. The accommodation is well appointed and has everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The owners are on site and are very friendly and made us feel very welcome. I travelled for 5.5 hours to get there and nothing was a problem when we arrived. If you have long journeys to get to Clauchan I would either recommend a early check in if need be and a late check out , but this does need to be pre booked in advance.
Please also for folk booking when you get the property in a very clean state leave it in the condition that you find it as this is only the right thing to do as if folk do this it makes the turn around for the owners easier on the check out day and there is no reason not to do this as there are all the cleaning essential's to do so.
I would recommend any of the properties as in my opinion they are very good value for money. I am booked for the third time again in August at Shielhill which is also on site and I am so looking forward to my next visit.

Lovely little 2 bedroom cottage in converted farm buildings near Gatehouse of Fleet. Dog friendly too and with lots of walks, along a much more rugged and interesting coastline than we expected, and not too long a walk into Gatehouse of Fleet for pubs and cafes and a well stocked Spar. The owners were helpful and always on hand, as were the pet pigs and goats which our Border Terrier loved to watch! We will be back!

This was our third stay at Claughan and once again, we really enjoyed it. On previous visits we had stayed in Valley View but this time due to Valley View being unavailable we stayed at The Stable which was a bit smaller, but had everything we needed nonetheless. It's in a great location for exploring the area and the owners are very friendly and helpful should you need anything. I'm sure we'll be returning as soon as we can!

This is one of our favourite places to stay and it's been a while since we were last here. The cottages have been refurbished since we last stayed.
Beautiful spot, really friendly people & animals! Such a peaceful place to sit outside listening to all the birds.
Always love walking through Cally Woods to Gatehouse of Fleet trying to spot red squirrels.
Close to Sandgreen Beach where there are plenty of tiny crabs and snails to spot in the sand.
Good base for visiting other areas.
Love it and look forward to going back!!

We needed somewhere to stay for 2 nights (to sleep 3) as we were attending a funeral. We needed it to be good value for money - but somewhere local to Gatehouse of Fleet and The Stable was perfect for this - although the twin beds were a bit small for my 2 adult sons who are both over 6ft tall!
The Stable had everything we needed and it was also very easy to find and well signposted. The owners were extremely helpful and very quick to respond to a few questions I had before our visit.

The cottage was in a great location and very handy having all the cottages next to each other as we were a big party.
Valley view was much smaller than we expected so be prepared for this but contained everything we needed so not too much of an issue.
Our only issue was when arriving, there was significant flooding in the area, which prevented us from following the instructions left by the owner and despite making multiple calls to the owner as we tried to gain access, none where answered which was quite stressful. We would have expected a message from the owner to explain the alternative way to access the property and for them to be available at check in time in case help is needed.
Check in at 5pm is also very late (especially in winter when it’s dark) and with check out at 10am, would politely suggest this be brought forward to 3 or 4pm, like most other places.

Im sorry you found The Stable to be much smaller than expected. We post many pictures of our properties on our listings to help customers understand the size of property they are booking. In fact, the very first picture in the listing is a floor plan of the property with the exact size and dimentions of each room clearly set out. The listing also clearly states that the property is for 2 adults and 2 children or for a couple, and that one dog is permitted. Your party consisted of 4 adults and 2 dogs.
Check in time is clearly listed on the website as 5pm. This allows us to thoroughly clean the five properties we let to a high standard and to address any unforseen issues we may encounter after guests check out. Thank you for scoring us 5/5 in this department, much appreciated.
There was indeed flooding the day you arrived. There is a reflective, bright yellow sign, on the Sangreen road, which was erected by the council, giving clear instructions on how to reach us in the event of the road being flooded. You tried to call me 5 times in a minute. I was driving at that time and unable to take your call. I called you back as soon as it was safe to do so. You did not answer. On my arrival home you had succesfully gained access to the property using the self check in procedure outlined in an email sent to you one week prior to your arrival.

If you are looking for somewhere that offers a welcome break from everyday life, then this is the place. We are outdoors people who love hiking and walking, this place offers this in abundance.
The cottage has everything you need, the owners are friendly and offers advice on walks. The location is amazing, proper farm life feeling. Hearing the cows in a morning was a welcome break for. Traffic noises.
There are endless walks from the cottage, you can go as far as you’d like. The local town is only a few miles walk where pubs and shops are dog friendly.
We will definitely be returning.

Excellent property on a great farm (missing Garry already!) which is 10 min drive or 45 min walk through the forest to Gatehouse of Fleet, and close drive to Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas. It is 1 mile from Cream of Galloway, which has excellent ice cream.
The Stable is a cosy space with everything we needed for our stay (two adults). The kitchen/dining/living space was perfect for what we needed.
Iain’s instructions to get to the property were clear and the roads in good condition.

We had a lovely break at the cottages immediately after the COVID lockdown eased. The owners Iain and Jackie could not have been nicer or more friendly- all the COVID precautions were adhered to without making us feel uneasy or unwelcome, The kids were given feed for the pigs and goats and really enjoyed interactions with the animals. They also shared lots of tips of where to go locally despite a lot of places being closed still. There are lots of beautiful beach walks and cycle rides nearby
The cottages are compact but have everything you could possibly need for a self catering stay including a BBQ. Great value for money

Had a wonderful stay at Clauchan Farm. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped for everything you need. Bike storage is also available. The owner is very friendly and makes you feel very relaxed from the moment you arrive. The cottage is dog friendly, our dog loved it, and you have a secure garden with patio furniture to sit out in (which we did most mornings) The area is beautiful, lots of forest walks but close to beaches and other amenities. We were lucky to have good weather and really didn't want to come home. We will definitely return.

We had booked for two weeks but loved it so much we stayed for 6 weeks.
We found it to be very relaxing and quite in the evenings had a great family feel and the service was second to none.
We would strongly recommend holidaying here.

Everything about this holiday accommodation was fabulous. Really well equipped and comfortable cottage. A great base base for exploring this beautiful area.

A very compact but well-equipped and comfortable holiday home, 2 minutes from the main A75 and excellent for dogs. Iain is an extremely friendly and helpful owner. The lovely town of Gatehouse of Fleet is also only minutes away, as are sandy beaches and access to the Galloway hills. Wifi works a treat too.

What a beautiful location for a restful stay. Cottage is equipped with all mod cons, washing machine, dishwasher.
Iain is an excellent host and made a stress free holiday. Dogs always love their stay, gated safe area.
Can’t wait to come back in April. Thank you.

Iain made us very welcome and was very quick to provide a high chair for our 2year old which we had forgotten to book. We found the accommodation smaller than we had thought from the photographs on the website and the bathroom not ideal as a family bathroom with a fairly tall father. Think that the twin bedroom is suitable for younger children, not teenagers or adults.

Hi Ruth and thank you very much for your review. We are sorry you found The Stable too small for your needs. We use professional photographers to showcase all our properties and we always instruct them to never use wide angle lenses or photo editing tricks to make the houses look bigger than they are and we feel we give an honest representation of what to expect. Regarding your comment on the twin bedroom, we advertise the Stable as suitable for two adults and two children as we feel it is of a size that is maybe a little tight for grown ups so i would agree with you that they are not ideal for adults and this is why we market them in this way. We would love to host you again and we have 2 much larger properties, The Barn and Middle Byre which i feel would suit your needs perfectly.

This provided the ideal accommodation for us when attending a wedding at the nearby GG's Yard. Ian was really friendly and helpful through the booking process and the cottage was warm and cosy in late November. Our only, and very small, grouse was that there were only 4 of everything and with three of us staying that meant we had to wash up after every cuppa rather than filling the dishwasher. A few more mugs in particular would be great.
It is set in a lovely area and one we hope to return to on another occasion when we'd be very happy to come back to Clauchan Farm.

We had an amazing stay at The Stable with our two young boys. Iain was a great host, making sure that everything was fine with the accommodation and we were comfortable - even putting away our groceries when our delivery arrived before us! Our eldest loved feeding the pigs and goats that have pens right beside The Stable. The accommodation is warm and cosy with new appliances and comfy beds. We were already planning a return in the summer before we'd even left!
