Lavender Cottage is a fabulous two bedroom country holiday cottage with a Cotswold stone fireplace and an electric flame effect stove. This family friendly home is nestled in the heart of Bourton-on-the-Water, a bustling village with an abundance of restaurants, tearooms, shops and pubs to discover, as well as a number of tourist attractions.

We was meant to stay Friday to Monday and we wasn’t there even 24hrs. First I understood there’s a check in time but 5pm is late. When I emailed to see if we could get in early there was no reply till 4:13. We opened the door to the cottage and the cold hit us straight away (it was warmer inside). You’d like to think the heating would be on prior to guest coming to make it nice and welcoming. There wasn’t a nice clean smell when we walked in like you’d think there would be also. I was so glad we took our own heater and heated blanket just in case, because they came in very handy! We went to bed early just to get warm, I had thermals, jogger suit, heated blanket and the heater on in a tiny room and we didn’t get warm till 1pm! We didn’t get an inch of sleep. The dog wouldn’t settle and stopped eating (he’s been away before so that wasn’t the problem). The next day the weather was horrendous (which isn’t no one’s fault) however we was just sat on the sofa (cold again) and we both looked at each other and said we could be warm at home doing this so we packed up and left. The cleanliness could have been a little better, in the bathroom there was all small black flies all on it and it didn’t have a nice clean smell when you walked in. Also parking, on the site it does say there’s free street parking outside the cottage however be aware there’s hardly any spaces and you’ll be very very lucky to grab one, we waited 30 mins thinking what to do however we was looking to catch someone moving from a space.

I can say the cottage is in a perfect location and I will say if it was warm inside and more inviting it would’ve been a different situation. I probably wouldn’t recommend due to our situation which is a shame, but I also didn’t get a reply from my email that I sent about the situation. We missed out on 2 nights of our anniversary vacation but the Cotswolds is lovely and will be visiting the area again.

Thank you Georgina for your review of Lavender Cottage. We are very disappointed to read that you stayed no longer than 24 hours at the property. The check in time of 5pm is stated on the website and the property manager and his housekeeping team will be willing to accept an earlier check in if given advance notice. The property manager’s contact details are sent three weeks prior to arrival at the cottage and they are best to be contacted by phone or text message as they are generally out on the road in the Cotswolds. We have checked with the property owner and the heating is set at an ambient temperature throughout the property and can be adjusted by a thermostat in the property. We are sorry that you choose to return home, as these issues could have been easily remedied if the property manager was contacted. We hope that you will return to the Cotswolds soon.

The cottage is in an excellent location but car parking is a challenge. The milk and cake on arrival were a nice touch. Overall this cottage is cluttered and it really could do with a freshen up. Carpets are worn, dusty cobwebs, electric fire doesn't work, 2 bedside lamps in a poor state and only one in the top room. Only 2 water glasses. There were 2 keys in the lockbox but not sure what one was for as no instruction file available. The dried flowers are now looking worn and perhaps better to remove these. No shower gel available. Mismatching duvet covers in the top room. The heating only worked when in timer mode. Cluttered cupboards and behind one of the sofas. A very charming cottage with lots of character but just needs a good spruce up and declutter.

Lovely cottage in the heart of the village. Walking distance from shops, pubs and restaurants. Nice garden with outside seating. Parking isn't dedicated however there are a couple of tight parking spaces at the front of the property which may be available. There is also a carpark over the bridge 5 minutes away.

10 minutes drive to Hawkstone brewery (Jeremy Clarkson)

40 minutes drive to the Royal International Air Tattoo.

The check in time at 5pm seemed late for an arrival time. For a short stay this made quite a difference. Parking also was interesting but overall a super location and good stay

We had a very pleasant stay at Lavender Cottage. It's a cozy little cottage that has an excellent location right in the heart of the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, which has plenty to do in it. You are in walking distance to everything in town. The cottage is tucked away behind another cottage, so it was a little tricky to find at first, but the check-in instructions are clear. There's a lovely garden, well-equipped kitchen and overall historic vibe to the place. We had plenty of space as a couple staying there (although we didn't spend loads of time in the cottage during the day because we were out exploring) but I could see space being tight if there were two couples sharing. You should park in the town lot, it's a very short/easy walk along the river. Overall, fantastic experience and would re-book. Happy out!

We had a wonderful weekend at lavender cottage.
Everything was spotlessly clean on our arrival.
The bedrooms were cosy and comfortable.
Location is fantastic, just next to the river, quiet and peaceful.
I will add if you’re coming with children to be aware the top floor room opens to steep stairs but our 5 year old managed fine!
We look forward to staying again in the future.

Overall it was very good. Parking was difficult but we were warned about this issue. It is a very small cottage and this is fine if you intend on going out most of the time. Otherwise it is tiny and the stairs are not easy. A good roomy kitchen however. The tv proved a problem until I found out there were no batteries in the remote control. Presumably the previous residents had taken them! What plonkers! We called the helpline and the cleaning lady (and her mother) were so helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

We recently stayed for three nights at Lavender Cottage in Bourton on the Water. It was absolutely the most quintessential, lovely Cotswold cottage experience we could have asked for! The proximity to town was fabulous - just a few minutes' walk. But the street and cottage were quiet and pleasant, we never felt as though we were "too close" to town or the tourists. The cottage was darling, clean and comfortable - everything we needed for our stay was provided. The mattresses could have been a bit softer - but we found that to be true all over England! Parking was easy, right on the street, and we were able to walk to wonderful shops, restaurants, and tea/coffee places without using the car.
We initially wondered which Cotswold village would be best for our visit - and found Bourton to be the perfect central location. We visited Highgrove, Stratford, Althorp, Blenheim Palace, and several other villages while we stayed at Lavender Cottage. Even though we drove a bit farther each day, it was so nice to come home to the same, comfortable, adorable cottage each night. The hosts shared a wonderful guide book with restaurant suggestions, which was very helpful. We are hoping to return some day - and won't hesitate to book this lovely property again.

Great location, right in town and still very quiet!!
Would definitely recommend.
Rooms are very small, and stair case a little precarious... But you are staying in an old cottage which has been made to feel very homely. Would not recommend if stairs could be an issue as we did have a fall during our stay.

Fyi cooktop extractor, electric fireplace and cd player were not working.. and more than 2 bowls in kitchen is suggested... But not a big deal and we really enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed our stay very much despite my comments below. This cottage could have got 5 stars from me if it weren't for a few issues:
1. The contact number provided for our stay never responded to any text or call. One contact was to report a broken chair that was there on our arrival so it's a shame no support was given. If we'd had an emergency we'd have been completely stuck.
2. The kitchen is newly done but the pots pans etc were not very clean and frankly a bit old. The cupboards were filled in a very haphazard way. Only 2 water glasses and 4 mugs seemed very mean! If you're going to charge this amount you need to provide quality kitchen things.
3. The twin beds were made up with non matching and aged duvet covers and pillows. Something so small could really smarten the place up.
4. No place to put soaps and shampoos in the shower.
5. It would be good to replace the fake flowers with either some fresh ones or just remove them as they seemed a bit cheap and tired.
6. The large bin for our cottage's refuse was full up on our arrival so we had to really force the rubbish in.

Nice touch to leave us milk in the fridge and some biscuits too. Just care for the place a bit more and we'd love to return. Otherwise not value for money.

The location couldn’t be better. The cottage requires renovating. The cleaning wasn’t cleanliness wasn’t great, particular attention required in the shower room as it was yellow in the corners of the shower. Also, cobwebs everywhere and in need of decorating, also, quite cluttered.

Lavender cottage is a total delight. It’s in a hidden corner completely silent both inside and in the garden yet only a couple of hundred yards from the main thoroughfare.
It’s well furnished, has very fast and reliable Internet and excellent mattresses make for a good night sleep. The shower is modern and very effective.
The stairs might be a challenge to anyone with a mobility issue, I’m 6 foot 3 and had to duck but there were no issues with the ceiling heights.

Lavender Cottage is a darling cottage in the Cotswolds. It’s very centrally located, just a short walk to downtown Bourton. It’s easy to pick up treats or wander the shops. The cottage itself is very cozy. We loved reading on the sofa or in the garden with a cup of tea. The bedrooms and house are well appointed. Unfortunately, that is also its problem. It’s a bit cluttered with unnecessary items. It’s hard to find places to store clothes and food. Also, while the overall cottage is fantastic, there are little details that have been missed…a broken chair. no dishtowel, no broom, and some general maintenance/cleaning needs. This cottage is almost perfect. With a bit of paring down and maintenance, it could easily be the perfect holiday home.

Lovely cottage all you need and more, parking wasn't ideal we parked in Rissington car park next to bird land ( much cheaper than the car park next to the co op) very close walk to all shops pubs and attractions

We stayed at Lavender Cottage for 4 nights. Cottage is lovely but very small upstairs. Location was excellent. Parking in February was ok but could be a huge problem in the summer. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A little Gem in the heart of Bourton on the water but just far enough away from the hub to have the tranquility we loved. Would definitely return !

Very nice cottage , lovely location, as everything you need.

We really enjoyed our holiday at Lavender Cottage. It is a beautiful place to stay and is within walking distance of all the attractions that Bourton has to offer. Ceilings and doorframes are low, so you do need to keep that in mind and duck at various places, but this is because it is a genuine Cotswold cottage with wooden beams. We would book there again.

Our 5 day stay included staying over Christmas , it was a fairy tale as the cottage was this magical space where we chatted with our children, cooked Christmas dinner with the surroundings of the cosiest decor, we loved Bourton on the water. walking in the village and noting how picturesque it was with ducks in the water, lovely tea rooms and gift shops I highly recommend this cottage. It has something magical.
