Smuggsbarn Cottage is an elegant holiday home, combining rustic country charm with modern decor and amenities. The enclosed wrap around garden is a wonderful space to enjoy with loved ones throughout the year. Ideally located in Chedworth, it is a lovely cottage for families or friends to relax together whilst exploring the Cotswolds.

Two failed attempts to communication with the manager before arrival - email/telephone. The agents could inform the property manager of the email address of the client to avoid Spam folder issues (if they don't already).
A multi zone heating system is much too complicated for people arriving after a long journey to grapple with. Some of the zones were set for 16 deg between 9am and 5pm as if we were going out to work during the day! Consideration must be given to babies/ the elderly/infirm who sleep/rest during the day.
Old buildings with thick stone walls only retain heat if they are continuously heated in winter. They are not suited to on/off heating. 16 deg is too cold as a set back temperature for this type of property. Having the thermostat for half the property in a non communal area is not a sensible design.
In general, luxury holiday properties in winter should be heated all over from c.6am to c.10pm

Thank you Annette for your review of Smuggsbarn Cottage. When a booking is placed with StayCotswold, the guest contact details are automatically sent to the property manager. We are sorry to hear that you were unable to contact your property manager before arriving at the property. Sometimes the phone signal in the Cotswolds can be intermittent and the property manager may be in an area with a bad signal, if she is left a voicemail she will call you back. The property owner has confirmed that there are fully detailed instructions for the heating system in the property information folder in the property. The property manager would have been able to assist you with any issues you experienced during your stay and resolved them quickly. From data received by the owners they can see that the temperature in the cottage during your stay was between 19 and 23 degrees and the thermostat settings are from 06:30-22:00. There is a thermostat in the kitchen area that is set to 23 degrees and it appears that you were able to increase the temperature setting on Friday and Saturday morning. If you book this cottage beware of the small print. A £250 deposit was put on my credit card on hold then on the day of departure the whole £250 was taken from my card due to 2 minor mud prints out of the duvet cover (which they apparently they couldn’t get out even with bleach and a 90 degree wash!) I was charged £46.89 for replacements. I was not sent the receipt. The remainder of the deposit didn’t go back on my card for over 7 days.
The cottage is meant to be dog friendly but dogs are not allowed upstairs but when you arrive the stair gates are open therefore the dogs run upstairs! Make sure you take towels for the dogs.
The entrance lock is defective and needs changing it took us 15 mins to get the key to work in the dark. Other guests have mentioned this . Checkin time is 17h00 and departure time is 10h00. The parking is at the side of the road not ideal for big cars or animals or small children.

Jennifer we are very disappointed to receive your review of your recent stay at Smuggsbarn Cottage. The security deposit is mentioned in the finer details of the property and is a pre-authorised payment taken 7 days prior to your arrival date and providing no damage is reported, the pre-authorisation will be released 7 days after your departure. For the avoidance of doubt, guests are requested to leave the property in a reasonable condition, consistent with the property's appearance upon arrival. Upon placing your booking with StayCotswolds you confirmed that you had read the finer details for the property. The owners are delighted to be able to welcome dogs so that they can also enjoy a wonderful country getaway with their families. Guests should bring their own dog bed from home and expect to provide their own towel and poo bags. There is a shower in the boot room at the property to clean muddy paws and the owners will consider providing towels for the dogs in the future. Stay Cotswolds team and the friendly property manager, Claire are available to support you during your stay if you had any issues. After your departure from the property we were informed by the property manager of the muddy paw prints on the bedlinen and that they would attempt to remove the stains, however ingrained mud is very difficult to remove from bedlinen, even after several washes at a high temperature. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful at removing the stains and the housekeeping team provided StayCotswold with a receipt for replacing the damaged items and £46.89 was taken from your security deposit. There is a retractable stairgate provided at the property to prevent dogs from going upstairs. StayCotswold pet rules apply at the property and these can be found in the finer details of the property, it clearly states that pets are not allowed on the furniture or in the bedrooms/bathroom areas of the house, dogs must be kept downstairs area only. Please do not leave pets unattended in or outside at any time. Please clean up after your pet(s) if they use the garden or drive areas. Please ensure that when you leave there are no traces (inside or out) that pets have been staying in the property. Please be considerate of residents in the area – don’t let your dog(s) bark excessively. We will pass your feedback onto the property manager regarding the door lock and ask them to rectify this for future guests.

Smuggsbarn cottage is in a beautiful village and very well placed for visiting all the area has to offer. We were a family of 5 adults, a 15 mth old baby and a dog and there was plenty of room for all of us. The cottage is a good size; comfortable and cosy. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were some nice touches in the cottage such as the boot room with a dog shower. We loved having the Wii for some family fun in the evenings.

We liked the quirky staircase from living room to bedroom 1 although not necessarily suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The garden was lovely and it was a shame we couldn’t enjoy it due to rain most of our stay but then we did visit in late September.

Booking was easy and communication ahead of our visit was efficient and informative. We had a slight issue with leaking in the boot room on arrival but this was due to torrential rain and it is an old building. We reported it to the managing agents who were quick to respond. It didn’t occur again during our stay.

There are some lovely walks from the cottage and some nice places to eat within a short drive. It’s a shame the local pub had shut down as it would have been nice to be able to walk somewhere to eat but we understand there are plans for this to be reopened in the future.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Smuggsbarn and would happily return.

Smuggs Barn Cottage was a good flexible option for us to stay with our adult daughters and dogs. It was great to have an additional potential space downstairs with a bed settee, although some might find it disconcerting that there is no specific door to the upstairs bedroom accessible directly from the sitting room. The kitchen is spacious and a great base. We found it very helpful to have stair gates at the foot of each of the staircases. We were surprised to find that there weren't any baking sheets provided - just a few (nice but not particularly large) ovenproof dishes. For chips a baking sheet is much easier to use! The most irritating thing about the house was that the downstairs toilet only fully flushed itermittently - we did get used to it, but it was a bit annoying. The garden is large and there are some good walks direct from the door. We decided to take a trip out to Bourton on the Water on the Saturday which was a huge mistake - it was absolutely jam packed with people, so we didn't stop! Aside from rush hour trains I don't think I've seen so many people milling around. Chedworth is a good location for touring around the area.

Cottage in handy location for visiting lots of places and doing dog walks. Few minor points they could address - no coffee pods on arrival as promised, middle blind in main bedroom didn't close so very bright first thing in the morning, beds in room 2 not put together as requested, dog poop in garden left from previous visitors, dustbin lorry arrived on Thursday morning (notes said Tuesday).

Very clean,for me it lacked coziness. There was an issue in upstairs bathroom that could be an accident waiting to happen.There was also a sewage smell in boot room that seaped through. We had to block of the plug holes to cut down on odour.

We stayed for one week in Smuggdbarn Cottage with our kids and our dog. The Cottage is very well prepared for traveling with a dog, especially with an own dog shower and gates at the stairs that prevents the dog from going in the upper floors. The living rooms are really nice with all you need for quite evenings or games for the kids. We really loved to stay at the cottage and we. An fully recommend Smuggsbarn Cottage.

We stayed at Smuggs Barn Cottage for a week and had a fantastic time. Very peaceful location, while still within 15/20 min drive to local town. Did not get a chance to try the local pubs but visited local villages / towns. Very beautiful part of England.
