Benson Cottage is a wonderful double-fronted Cotswold stone holiday home located within the picturesque village of Paxford, close to both Chipping Campden and Moreton-in-Marsh. Benefitting from three ensuite bedrooms, two sitting rooms and a generous sized garden at the rear, this spacious home provides an idyllic retreat that combines town and country.

We were thrilled to be able to stay for a second time at Benson Cottage. It is a beautiful, well appointed and warm home in the heart of the Cotswolds. A lovely home for a family and we cannot wait to return. We intend to make this our base each time we visit from Australia.

Benson Cottage was a good property, comfortable and clean in an area that suited our requirements for visits to National trust properties and towns in the cotswolds. Three comfortable bedrooms all with en-suite facilities. A quiet sitting room and a tv lounge. A few minor negatives, the front door did not lock due to poor alignment, the heating system was a bit off a hit and miss affair, but the house manager did her best to resolve, the garden was small and uninteresting. Parking area for 1 car was flooded so no access to car parking via the back gate, this was due to heavy rainfall during our visit. Apart from these minor issues we enjoyed our time at Benson Cottage.

We found the accommodation to be excellent for our basic requirement of 3 double rooms with at least two bathrooms. Benson cottage provided 2 Kingsize bedrooms with en-suite showers and a master suite with Queensize bed. All comfortable, cozy and well equipped for our week away. We have a family get together every year with a cottage rental, and this was the best accommodation yet.
The local village pub was being renovated, which was a shame, but lots of other choices within 15 minute drive. Very quiet location which suited us fine.

My review will sound very familiar to other users of the property who have reported the same problems without them being resolved. Chief of these is the problem with parking which is very limited due to cones round a collapsed drain in the shared driveway. When we tried to move the cones to make it easier to manoeuvre in and out one of the neighbours came out and told us not to. The information provided on entering the property was really a set of dire warnings about cleaning and rubbish disposal on leaving. The shower tray in the bedroom we used didn’t drain so getting into the shower after someone had used it was slippery and dangerous. There were few coat hangers. We were unable to use the washer as the only drying option was a very small fold out airer - and no pegs. None of these problems would take much sorting out. Benson Cottage is a lovely house in an excellent location and it seems a pity not to be able to give a better review

Benson Cottage is very attractive and beautifully appointed. We were very pleased with the overall quality of the property and despite the various negative issues we had a very enjoyable stay.

So, the constructive comments that follow are similar to previous review by cottage holiday renters.

The cottage is advertised with parking for two cars. There is NO WAY two cars can park off road. The broken water pipe in the designated parking area -which according to the lovely neighbour I spoke to has been coned and cordoned off since October 2023 (that’s EIGHT MONTHS AGO! -So I ask why is this property still advertising two parking spaces that clearly are not available?). Further more, even without the broken pipe I would suggest parking would be limited to only two very small cars.

The cottage is advertised with strong Wi-Fi, but apart from the sitting room and bedroom 3 situated directly above, the Wi-Fi was poor.

The main bedroom en-suite lacked any means of fresh air and on arrival smelt ‘stale and damp’ - due presumably to the skylight window being inaccessible to open. It needed some sort of pole to enable opening and airing.

Bedroom 3 has no wardrobe nor any facility to hang clothes. Not too much of an issue for our three night stay but had we been staying for longer, some sort of wall hooks/pegs would have been helpful.

Also a zip/ link bed in one of the bedrooms would offer more flexibility for folks/children happy to share a room but not a bed.

The cottage instruction folder bordered on useless and needed a complete overhaul. Outdated refuse information, no information re dishwasher especially regarding program cycles, yet pages and pages on heating system when in fact all one needed was how to switch on, set temperature and switch off! Three different Wi-Fi passwords listed was not helpful either, as only one was correct..

Finally, more tourist information and a visitor book would be helpful plus a key safe outside that is located at a height for everyone over the age and height of a five year old would be perfect, as having to kneel down every time to use the key safe was not ideal.

The bed configuration is clearly advertised for guests to review before placing their booking so they can decide if this works for their party of guests. The key safe is located at a height where you need to bend down to use the key safe but not kneel. We will pass your comments on to the property manager about updating the welcome folder. We do hope that overall, you enjoyed your time exploring the Cotswolds!

Good points - very clean and good quality furnishings.
Constructive Criticism-
1. on arrival couldn’t park second car at the back due to big hole in ground coned off. C o you ld have been notified beforehand
2. Back door very stiff to open and needed big push!
3. Front door only locks with bolts as door has dropped and key wouldn’t work
4. No wardrobe in one front bedroom
5. Wardrobe in second front bedroom small with only 6 hangers (to be shared with two rooms) and in that room
No bedside light(s) and
other than over basin in bathroom no mirrors. Plugs under corner unit very difficult to get to
6. All info re bin collections/ local info etc well out of date!!
7. Second sitting room with tv seating totally useless for comfort. TV would be better sited in the other room where four+ people could sit in comfort

We were meeting up with friends and booked Benson Cottage as is was perfect for us, king size beds and en-suite shower to each bedroom. The cottage is modern and well appointed and we had a very pleasant stay.
It is impossible to park 2 cars at the rear of the property as firstly they would have to be small and secondly at present there is a coned off area in the parking space covering the broken rain water pipe under the shingle drive, this according to a neighbour has been like it for some time. We returned on Saturday evening and as it was rather chilly decided to light the fire, there were written instruction which were followed to the letter but this proved impossible as smoke poured from around the chimney and set off the fire alarm. There was a phone number to ring but we just decided to abandon the idea. I do think that the fire and the chimney need to be inspected. We would return as it is a lovely cottage in a quiet village.

We all had a fabulous time. The cottage was well equipped with all the things you need.
The only thing I would say is that there is not space for 2 cars at the back at all, so we parked out the front. Also the heating was set so the upstairs was cold .

What a lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and comfortable. I loved waking up in the morning and seeing the baby lambs from my bedroom window.
From Benson cottage it was an easy drive to visit all the places that we wanted to see during our stay.
I would highly recommend Benson cottage and if we are ever staying in the Cotswolds again I would love to come back to stay.

We chose Benson cottage as our base bringing with us 2 elderly relatives one being partly wheel chair bound.
Ideally a Bungalow would have been better but could not locate one in the area.
The steps from the entrance hall x3 were aided by a banister so that was fine and the large down stairs toilet was a major plus.

The cottage was well presented and cleane and tidy with an excellent heating system made our stay a pleasant one.

Great house, plenty of space for 6 adults and two babies. Makes such a difference for everybody to have their own ensuite. All three bedrooms very spacious, but master suite was huge and bathroom had bath and large shower. Bathrooms were all modern and clean with spacious showers. Kitchen was roomy and well equipped, with plenty of room around the table for us all. Having two lounges was great, although I would have preferred them both to have a television. Parking wasn't an issue, we parked one car round the back of the house and two out front and didn't have a problem retaining those spaces over the weekend. We'd definitely stay there again when visiting the Cotswolds.

House was well equipped, plenty of room for 5 of us. Enjoyed the two sitting rooms to keep TV watchers from book readers.
Local area very interesting Moreton-In-Marsh particularly along with Hidcote and very nice food at Ebrington Arms
Only observation that some small decorative touch ups required, but this only being picky.

First impressions give a feeling of luxury and its lovely to have 3 ensuite rooms with good proportions. I dont want to be too negative as we had a great stay here but it's clear that there is not much input from the owners. The pillows are awful and many did not have protectors. Other bedding was ok. A few basics missing - No soap in downstairs loo/spatula for frying pan not good. Parking spaces not suitable for 2 cars and were flooded. Some repairs needed to various marks/holes in walls. Good holiday home which could be luxurious. Shame no TV in sitting room. Impersonal welcome sheet on arrival.

Fantastic cottage. The cottage itself is well kitted out and everything was very clean and fresh with excellent quality bed linen, towels etc. A lovely touch was a welcome cake. Having en-suites to all three bedrooms made it much easier on a multi generational family break, as did having a ‘TV’ room and another sitting room. The location is great - quite rural for walks, but within easy reach of Stratford-upon-Avon and beautiful Cotswold villages. We also met some lovely, welcoming neighbours. We are checking calendars to see when we can re-visit!

We rented this cottage for 3 nights for a family get together. The cottage was clean, warm and easy to find with views over farmers fields to the front and countryside with a few houses to the rear. Parking at the rear of the property for 2 cars only otherwise on the road in front of the house, the road was relatively quiet. Well equipped kitchen apart from too few dinner plates and some too large to go in the dishwasher, not a problem as they supply tabs for the dishwasher which had to go on quite often. Fabulous holiday cottage in the Cotswolds - we stayed for a long weekend at Benson Cottage (2 couples) and had a lovely time. The cottage is a perfect size, warm, and with high quality fixtures and fittings. The decor is calm yet cosy. Benson cottage is well equipped with everything you could need for a weekend/week away.

Only downside was the local pub being closed (due to a fire) so there was no restaurant or pub within walking distance - but not really a major issue!

We had a very comfortable stay in Bendon Cottage fitted our family perfectly with a visit to Cheltenham races and a very good Sunday lunch at the Bakers Inn Broad Camden

Really lovely stay with high quality fixtures and fittings which were much appreciated- as well as the Victoria Sponge thank you .

A couple of small things ( didn’t spoil our enjoyment but thought we’d mention) - music system in the lounge , we couldn’t get a radio station tuned in ( and had no tapes or CDs or ability to blue tooth ). The beds were super comfy but would suggest pillow protectors for good measure if possible.

Benson Cottage proved an ideal place for a reunion with friends. The house was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The only thing missing was instruction on what could be recycled . As it varies so much across the country we took ours home rather than use the recycling containers.

We have had a wonderful 2 week break at Benson Cottage. Lovely modern house with spacious double bedrooms all with en-suites which is a bonus. Kitchen well equipped, although not much cooking was done. Unfortunately the local pub suffered a fire earlier in the year so we had to venture further out for meals. Would recommend The Howard Arms at Ilmington.
Our first week was during a heatwave and a patio umbrella would have been most welcome.
Lovely base for touring the Cotswold.

Benson cottage had everything we needed, the Master bedroom was beautiful and huge! Two living rooms was very luxurious and the kitchen was well equipped and furnished to a very high standard, the garden was private with nice views. The wifi was good enough for us to remote work successfully. The only negative was that the front bedrooms (the Master is at the back) were quite noisy when the traffic started early in the morning as the cottage fronts onto the road.

We enjoyed our stay at Benson cottage. The house is modern, clean and well equipped. It has a lovely light kitchen with plenty of good quality crockery and cooking utensils. We appreciated the welcome cake and pint of milk too.
We chose it because each bedroom had an en-suite and these were all modern and of a good size. A few small gaps with only back of the door hanging in one room and only a mirror in the bathroom in another, but these were minor points.
Parking was good. The off road area at the back wasn’t big enough for two of our cars but there was plenty of parking on the road in front of the cottage as well.
We had a couple of questions with the owner and these were all managed easily and quickly.
Shame the village gastro pub has suffered a fire, which hopefully they can recover from, but we had some great meals in nearby Chipping Campden as well as Vegetable Matters for lunch which was even closer.
Our weekend stay included the Sunday night at no extra cost which was an added bonus.

We stayed here last minute as unfortunately our original house had a flood so was cancelled. I was a little concerned as I knew my elderly parents would need to climb a staircase but they said they could manage. The house was clean (apart from a few cobwebs which is to be expected in the country) and well equipped. So much space and the furniture was high quality. All three rooms having an en-suite was ideal! Paxford was ideally located for reaching many of the popular must visit towns. Unfortunately my Mum managed to trip up the 3 steps in the hallway! It’s a beautiful stone tiled floor which can be easily misjudged by the elderly and young so do take care. Other than that, it was a lovely comfortable stay and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely recommend and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

A lovely, well appointed cottage. Great location for exploring The Cotswolds. The cottage was very clean with the exception of a few cobwebs. It would be nice to have a television in both sitting rooms as the corner sofa was not ideal for 4 people. All in all a great week in a lovely property.

The cottage had all the equipment we could have wished for especially in the kitchen.
We would have welcomed some information on the local area and maybe a visitors book where other guests could share their information.
Unfortunately the local pub mentioned in the details had had a couple of weeks before our visit and so was not open.
We had a good week and enjoyed ourselves.

Lovely spacious house, ideal for 3 couples due to every bedroom having its own en-suite. Kitchen very well stocked with everything you require although could have benefited from a larger frying pan/wok. Beds were extremely comfortable however all 3 bedrooms were lacking in mirrors. 2 of the 3 only had a mirror in the en-suite and the 3rd had a dressing table but no mirror over it. However I am being picky here because overall it was a great property and we had a lovely relaxing week. The local pub is only a few minutes walk away as well.

A new property, perfect for three couples or a family. Good location for exploring and short walk to super pub which serves food.
Fully equipped kitchen/ eating area. Good size double bedrooms, all with lovely en-suite. Small but useable garden and parking at rear and on road. We used the log fire as first day couldn’t work out central heating controls. Easy to get going and quickly heated the room. Lounge is so very comfortable with high quality furniture. Separate TV lounge ideal for quiet getaway or TV/gaming. Again quality furniture. We assume board games not provided due to Covid. We took our own games
We three couples would like to return in future and hope all guests continue to treat the cottage respectfully.
Booking and follow up questions was easy and staff friendly and helpful.

Enjoyable stay in glorious weather . However there was little shade in the garden and no parasol for the seating area. We stayed in the master bedroom with plenty of storage but there was an absence of hanging space in the other two bedrooms. As we were only there for four nights this did not detract from our holiday too much but might prove a problem for longer breaks. All the popular Cotswolds villages were in easy reach as was Stratford . The transport museum in Coventry was good value for money. There are walks from the village but not enough time to take them sadly.

The house was comfortable, but a little stark and not particularly homely. It was an ideal base for exploring the area and thankfully we had done our homework and knew which places we wanted to visit. Unfortunately the Welcome Folder did not contain any information regarding local attractions, or even the nearest supermarket or hospital in case of emergency. One minor irritation was the lack of bedside tables - only one per room, which was surprising given the house sleeps six. On a positive note, a couple of issues we reported to the housekeeper were resolved within 24 hours, for which we were very grateful.

Benson Cottage is tricky to review. On the surface of it there’s little to complain about. It’s a well presented new Cotswold stone house in a pretty location. The pictures are completely accurate. It really depends what you’re looking for. If it’s a good quality base to explore the Cotswolds from and you’re just after modern, clean and simple base Benson cottage is perfectly good. However, for us the quality and luxury of the house is a big part of the holiday. I feared upon booking it might be a little sterile and, frankly, it is - there’s a soulless and empty feel to it. Beyond that we were also surprised at the quality of some fixtures and fittings and furnishing, thought it was lacking in a few key items and the garden is both empty and could be better maintained (lots of weeds). Overall the house is perfectly fine but probably not one for you if you’re looking for a luxury holiday stay.

Just returned from a week at Benson Cottage in Paxford. The house was clean, modern and had some lovely touches. The standard of the kitchen, bathrooms and overall accommodation is excellent. “Starter essentials” such as dishwasher tablets, toilet rolls, soap etc were all provided which was very welcome. There is adequate parking in front of and to the rear of the property. I would definitely recommend this house to others.
