Hillcrest Cottage is a cosy two bedroom holiday cottage which has beautifully bright interiors and a traditional wood burning stove. Located in Avening, a small Cotswold village three miles north of Tetbury, the cottage is ideally suited to those looking to explore the surrounding countryside or perhaps enjoy a day trip to Bristol or Bath, both under an hours drive away.

Nice cottage in a pretty village called Avening.Comfortable,spacious and despite previous reviews on parking I could have got my grandland on the drive and a decent parking space at the back.Perfect location for 7 walks straight from the property and a pub at the bottom of the street .Ideally situated for Tetbury,Bath and Westonburt arboretum.Ideal size for 3 people though with a bit more cutlery I thought it would be okay for 4.

Cute and cosy cottage Equipment poor. Just three wine glasses ( one red and two Prosecco), no logs for fire on arrival but they did bring three along later. Comfy bed and nice linens. Couldn’t pull up blind in front room. Thoughtful that it was decorated for Christmas. Village is quiet but nothing there apart from a pub. Good for local villages. Parking ok for a small car but we had to leave ours on the main road.

The location of the property is described on the website as being in the quaint village of Avening, three miles from Tetbury and Nailsworth where you will find a range of independent shops and cafes. The property manager has confirmed that one large car can be parked on the drive and a new blind has been fitted. We hope you will return soon.

Car park good for small car but others park opposite or near entrance so be careful.
Beds really comfortable

Last minute booking and what a gem! The cottage has everything you could need, is very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Off road parking is an absolute bonus in this area and whilst the parking space is compact, we have a big car and had no issues reversing in. We spent the weekend visiting local towns and villages and the cottage location makes a great base for days out.
The bed was supremely comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, lovely hot water from a great shower and a lot of thought has gone in to the furnishings. My sister and brother in law have already made a future booking on our recommendation and we will definitely
be back!

Good qualitiy cottage, starting point for interesting excursions (e.g. Rodmarton Manor).
Parking space on property too small, but offroad parking on private Mill Lane possible.

We couldn't be more pleased with our choice to stay at this delightful cottage deep in the Cotswolds and away from the main tourist towns. Beautifully decorated and comfortable, and access with the keysafe was easy. There is parking at the rear for one car.
Hillcrest Cottage offered the real experience of staying in a Cotwolds village, with a locals pub at the Bell, walks, and the small town of Nailsworth is a short drive and has shops, cafe's etc. but also part of a circular walk. We thought Hillcrest was fantastic value for the comfort, space, and location.

Lovely stay at Hillcrest cottage.
Really nice, comfortable stay for the three of us. Had everything we needed, was quiet, clean and tidy and a really good location for getting out to places like Stroud, Cirencester, Westonbirt Arboretum etc.
Richard, the property manager was really helpful and on hand if needed.

A semi comfortable stay at Hillcrest Cottage. Accomodation is quite small but okay for 2 people. The Main bedroom has a large double but the mattress is a little lumpy and the metal bed squeaks. The smaller room has a double with not much space to walk around to get to the wardrobe. The heating is excellent and we were able to adjust it easily. We planned to have a fire on the first night but no wood was left for us. We contacted the relative owner and ensured we had some for only 1 night. We found the clothes rack to dry our clothes was broken and asked for it to rectified. The clothes airer was propped up the next day in the laundry, it was still broken so we were unable to place anything heavier than socks to dry on it to be honest. No effort was made to replace it during our stay. I think some attention to clearing out old pantry staples needs to be addressed. The coffee was old and some packets like sugar were left open in the cupboard. The 2 sofas were small so it wasn’t a relaxing space. The window frames need cleaning as there is black mould on the inside. The parking space outside was just enough for our Kia Sportage - anything bigger- wouldn’t fit. I don’t feel as if we had value for money unfortunately. Disappointed sadly. 5/10

We are sorry to hear that you found the mattress to not be to your level of comfort sadly, mattress comfort is down to personal preference and not everyone will find the beds to their liking, but we will continue to monitor any feedback received from guests. The property manager has confirmed that he fixed the clothes rack during your stay once he had been notified that there was a problem with it and that the pantry items are checked regularly between changeovers to ensure that there is an initial supply of tea, coffee and sugar for guests. Sadly as you had the heating on a constant high temperature this caused condensation and for water to form around the window frames, this can be prevented by wiping the windows down or keeping the heating on a lower temperature. The property provides adequate seating for up to 4 guests with two two-seater sofas in the living area. We do advertise the property as having off street parking for 1 car with further on street parking available nearby as well as having only a starter supply of wood and kindling for the wood burning stove. We do hope that overall, you enjoyed your time exploring the Cotswolds.

The furnishings and decor are all beautiful in this cottage and we had a really lovely 4 night stay. We were a little unlucky that the closest pub was closed for refurbishment and the next had no food due to illness, but clearly not the fault of the cottage! The only real issue is the parking. It’s probably ok if you come in 1 small vehicle, but my sister and I travelled from different parts of the country and met there. I was fortunate to be greeted by the property manager/owner who advised that 1 car could go on the drive and the other behind it on Mill Lane. We put the smallest car on the little drive but after only half an hour of the other car being parked in Mill Lane there was hammering on the door and an aggressive neighbour complained. I diffused the situation by being polite to him and moving the car but it’s fairly clear that the neighbours don’t like this property being a holiday rental as he said he “was sick of this”. We weren’t really relaxed the whole of the first evening as a result of being shouted at by a strange man. Another neighbour regularly uses the cottage bin and looks in through the window as she does!
Such a shame, because other than the parking situation / neighbours the cottage is really lovely!

The house was very comfortable and the village was charming. There is a choice of two pubs but we did not discover whether there was a local shop. Parking is limited and it isn’t clear where the designated parking space is at the rear of the property. We also noted that the bathroom had a leaking tap and a wobbly toilet seat. It could also do with more hooks for towels etc.

Great location to visit the Southern Cotswolds and Bath etc. We drove to Broadway way in the North and it took 1hr from here. Just to give others an indication of location!

Cottage - very modern and cosy inside. Obviously had a bit of money spent on it. Great 100Mbps internet, log fire, TV, Nice kitchen, great bathroom. All fantastic. Couple of humble points if I may...

Little Tip - there's only a double duvet on the King Size bed?! The wife and I were fighting over it lol

Bigger Tip - curtains in the main bedroom atleast. The wooden slats look the part but dont keep out lots of light - and theres a street light right outside! But this may not bother some.
