We knew about this cottage as we’ve been to Malpas many times and I often wondered what it would be like to stay in this little village. So the opportunity came to stay at the Fal River Cottage and its location is perfect I was worried about the The Heron Inn being only 3 houses up from us with potential noise from visitors enjoying themselves but to be honest we were in their most nights and your far enough away to not notice any disturbance. Of course the view is outstanding from the cottage and you never really need to use your car once you’ve secured your parking space which is a little tricky but just be patient and something will come up. We were lucky and had great weather and enjoy the decking in the front of the cottage you never get tired of seeing the ever changing tide of the river fal. The cottage itself is ideal for 2/3 people but bring a bottle opener for those cool bears/ciders has we could not find one in the kitchen. All in all a place that we would come back too for sure.

The cottage is in the most beautiful position where the rivers meet. The tiered patios behind the cottage are wonderful and very comfortable seating made for a lovely evening with a glass of wine and watching river life. The bedrooms and beds are comfortable but we struggled being in a double bed on a warm evening, we are just used to a bigger bed. The kitchen is beautifully done, a couple of ovenware dishes would have been useful, but we managed none the less. We had a couple of evenings watching TV but we personally found the new chair and sofa very uncomfortable (different to the photos) which was a shame.Huge range of games and books, the fabulous Heron Inn on your doorstep and a trip down the river to Falmouth completed our stay. Phil was very attentive and couldn’t fault the service he gave and even arranged to send a Teddy that got left behind! Thank you for the delicious cream tea, it started the week off beautifully.

Brilliant for a short stay.

We enjoyed our New Year break at Fall Cittage, Malpas. The location is perfect with fabulous views of the river estuary. The local pub is a matter of metres away and is well worth visiting. Excellent food and very friendly staff.

Myself and my best friend stayed here for a long weekend break. It was my present to her for her 60th birthday, We just wanted to chill & chat really. We popped to the pub three doors away for food and refreshments of course, but apart from that we sat in comfort in front of the lovely log burner and chatted and laughed. We had so much catching up to do. The view was spectacular and the facilities in the cottage were excellent. Plenty of lovely walks to do in the area if you like that sort of thing but for what we wanted, comfort and warmth, this cottage was perfect. Phil is a very helpful and friendly host. He provided some lovely Cornish treats for us which were very much enjoyed. Another special memory now we created of our time at Fal River Cottage,

The cottage is exceptionally well located and excellently appointed. The management is efficient and personal. We had a wonderful few days. The only slight criticism is that the dining table could not be moved from the little kitchen to the living room. We had a couple visit us for dinner and it was too cold to eat outside (from which the views are stunning)

We spent a lovely week in beautiful Malpas. The cottage was very nice and in the best position! Very dog friendly everywhere and an enjoyable walk into Truro. Lots of time spent at The Heron! The cottage provided a great base and was really nicely decorated. Just a couple of things that may have made it even better - we found the bed a little small, probably because we’re used to a much bigger one, but the room is so spacious it could definitely take a bigger bed. A DVD player might be good, we didn’t spend much time looking at the TV but had taken some DVD’s to have a couple of nights in (to keep costs down) and there really wasn’t anything on TV. I think it would also be useful to have the information the owner provided about the cottage and surrounding area on a laminated sheet in the cottage, it’s a bit of a pain to try and read it on a small mobile screen. Lastly PARKING ! Not fun driving up and down trying to find somewhere to dump the car, especially when it’s a big wide one like ours. I understand there’s nothing that can be done about this but you need to be fully aware of how difficult and stressful it can be. We were lucky and made friends with a local who very kindly offered us a parking spot on their driveway at the top of the village.

All in all we had a very enjoyable holiday in a beautiful area

Beautifully well presented cottage in a stunning location , Owner was very helpful throughout and we could not have asked for for. Parking outside was great for us , but I guess it could be a challenge at the height of summer with the Heron 3 doors away. Location was perfect for exploring south west Cornwall with many local walks if you don’t want to travel.
The steps up to the Cottage are steep for those less able ( the Owner does point this out in the Cottage information ) but apart from that , perfection !!

Lovely, comfortable cottage with everything you need in a stunning location with beautiful views and just two doors down from a very good pub.

The owners were friendly and helpful. The cottage has had a lot of thought put into it to make the best use of the space and there's several different areas to sit in outside and look at the view.

We had bought our kayaks with us and were able to use the slipway down the road to get on the water and enjoyed a couple of trips out on the river, there was also lots of walking available (nice walk up to St Clements and back one evening) and a less energetic trip boat to Falmouth was also available. We also enjoyed just sitting and enjoying the views!

Peaceful stay watching the rise and fall of the tide and the brilliant birdlife-nesting herons, eagrets etc. Lovely comfy bed with all the facilities that you need. The welcome basket was full of Cornish treats and host could not have been more informative.
Delicious food from the Heron Inn, and the marina coffee shop cakes were scrummy too.
A thoroughly enjoyed break, and will recommend to friends & family.
Thank you

This was a last minute booking, glad we found it. Lovely quaint looking cottage with fab views which would be even better in peak season with a bit more going on up and down the river. The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and newly refurbished. Well done to the owners. Lovely walks from the cottage. Great pub 3 doors away, or just sit on your own terrace and enjoy. Parking not a problem on the road outside. Will return soon. Thx

We had a really enjoyable stay at the cottage, helped by the fantastic weather. It’s a great location and the Heron pub 2 doors away was so convenient. There is always interest in the view across the river with the varied bird life and boats coming and going. The walk to St Clements is lovely, either along the river bank or through the fields over the hill.
The cottage was very clean and well appointed. However, it would benefit from a freezer compartment in the fridge as unable to have any ice for cold drinks.
Parking is on-road which is always busy but we were able to park each time we returned so not an issue.
The terrace areas to the rear were great places to relax and admire the view as is the front decking where you can soak in the atmosphere of the pub customers enjoying their time on the roadside seating area.
I would recommend this cottage if you are looking for chilled get away.

Small cottage with modern facilities overlooking the tidal River Fal. Spotlessly clean and very conveniently located 3 doors down from the Heron pub which does great food. We felt very relaxed admiring the views and enjoyed sitting out front watching the boats and herons.
Malpas is a popular location, with limited parking. You need to time your arrival for quieter periods to get close to the cottage.
The owners were great to deal with.

You can’t fail to be disappointed with this perfect little cottage, beautifully presented and equipped. The views are amazing, close enough to Truro for any shopping and in an excellent position for exploring Cornwall. Heron Pub to be recommended, thought parking may be an issue but we managed to park right outside the cottage every day. Phil was so helpful with information before our stay and the arrival goodies were a lovely surprise.

Beautifully presented cottage in a perfect location on the bank of the river with fantastic views from the front and rear gardens. We were lucky with the weather in early April and were able to sit outside on a couple of afternoons. Lovely clean and well decorated interior with interesting art in all of the rooms. The living room has a two-seater sofa and BT youview TV and WiFi. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with fridge, dishwasher, cooker and induction hob. The beds are very comfortable in spacious double bedroom and single room to the rear through which the rear garden is accessed up two flights of steps. There are two decks at the rear, one with a table and chairs and the upper one with a rattan sofa. At the rear of deck is a small enclosed area - ideal for letting the dog out. The cottage is accessed by steps up from the road. Parking is on the roadside - there are no reserved spaces and you may have a short walk from where you can park. The Heron Inn pub is literally one minutes walk from the front door. They serve excellent food. There is plenty of good walks directly from the cottage. Walking along the river to the next village of St Clement's is well worth it. Truro city centre is 45 min walk away were there is a Tesco, Aldi and an M+S on the waterfront. All in all an ideal base to stay at for exploring SW Cornwall or just relaxing the whole time in Malpas.

I loved the place., it is such a lovely, little cottage, I was there on my own and I felt very safe, but it would have been fine for 2 or 3 people. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, I slept well every night. Great view of the river and the moored boats, especially on one misty morning - as it cleared the boats loomed into sight. Just like a watercolour. I stayed in October and had no problem parking outside. The Heron bar and restaurant was exceedingly handy, we had a great meal there twice with good food (especially the puds) and good service. But there was no noise transferrence, so don't worry about that! I didn't use the gardens because I didn't have enough time, but they slope up to two terraces with splendid views, I could see myself sitting, sipping and just taking in the views. A fab place to stay, I really hope that I can come back again.

Perfect for a couple I would say, with amazing views over the river for sunrise in the morning and the terraces are great to sit and relax for breakfast or evening. Great location to explore around Cornwall.
The pub next door is great, but you will need to book.
Owner was great to help with advice and arrival/departure.
Only downside is parking can be very challenging, would recommend getting back to cottage before 4 if you don’t want a five plus minute walk.
Also be aware that there are steep steps up to the cottage and to get from the ground floor to upstairs for bedrooms and toilets.

We stayed at Fal River cottage for a week in September. The cottage and location was excellent which lead to a very relaxing week. Very dog friendly with plenty of local walks. The location of the pub a couple of houses away was a great bonus serving excellent food. Our only suggestion would be a small gate close to the front door to make the front patio area dog secure. We will definitely return in the near future.

We had a very happy week here. The views from the bedroom and outside terraces are absolutely gorgeous. It’s a quiet and comfortable place to stay and very well equipped. Phil is a very helpful host, quick to respond by text to any questions.

Great location for walks along the Fal river and days on the beautiful nearby beaches. Malpas is a sleepy little place with easy access to Truro by car or on foot. Don’t miss the food and hospitality at the pub a couple of doors away, it’s deservedly popular. Nice cafe/deli by the harbour too.

We loved it so much here there was really no need to travel anywhere else. The view from the terrace was beautiful and we never got tired of looking at it, while eating breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's only a 2 mile walk to Truro if you do want to go out, which we did one night for some great live music and a meal at the Alverton Hotel. Trennick Mill about a mile down the road is worth a walk too for a coffee, and there's a nice pond there to relax and watch the ducks and swans. You can also go on a boat trip from Malpas to Falmouth although they don't run very often so ring and check times

Fal Cottage is a beautiful little cottage in a stunning location. What you see on the owners website is what you get so no nasty surprises. Phil the owner gave us comprehensive arrival instructions including very clear Covid advice which was reassuring. He was also extremely helpful when a few minor issues arose during our stay and was prompt at sorting them out for us. If you are into Paddleboarding or Kayaking there is a slip way onto the river a few moments walk away. All in all a fabulous week away and we were sad to leave. Will return again hopefully very soon.

A lovely two bedroom cottage with an amazing view. A gate at the bottom of the property would be appreciated as the steps go straight onto the road which can be very busy. The parking is a real Issue as the pub has now turned its carpark into outside seating due to the coronavirus. This became very frustrating to the point where you didn’t want to leave the cottage as you would have nowhere to park on your return. The Heron Inn which is three doors away serves excellent food but is very busy adding to the parking issue.

The cottage is beautiful inside and out. Decor is perfect and the log burner ensures you feel cosy and relaxed during a cold winters night. The views from the windows over the estuary are amazing as are the lovely walks through fields and woods to nearly villages. Close enough to walk into Truro but far enough away to feel like you have left the busy world behind. The village pub is only a few steps away and serves the best food I’ve had in ages. Perfect weekend away

Really enjoyed our short stay at the cottage. Excellent location & a couple of doors down from a great gastropub. Lots of great walks and a lovely walk in to Truro takes about 40 minutes.
The well equipped cottage benefits from a log burning stove, Tv with Netflix and great wifi.
Comfortable bed and proper kitchen with dishwasher.
Enjoyed the Cornish cream tea and biscuits provided too.
Lovely views across the estuary from the decking and from the rear terrace garden too.
On street parking wasn’t a issue & was nice to see all the paddle boardings & canoeists arrive at the weekend and enjoy the water.
Idyllic & didn’t want to leave but look forward to our next stay.

Amazing cottage!!!
Well equipped, Extremely clean and very comfortable,
Close to everything, Loved the walks - our dog has never walked so much ever! People so friendly everywhere we went ( inc. Truro and Falmouth).
Loved the log fire beautiful - after our walking sat back with a gin and tonic watched good movies and relaxed.
We work long hours so was good not to have a clock dictating time. Slept for 8 hours, normally only get around 5 hours. Bed and pillows so comfortable. Views amazing from the cottage. Next door up for sale, looking into if we can afford to buy it lol :) Truro only couple of miles walk, great for shopping, Christmas Fayre was good also went to Falmouth and they had their Christmas fayre on with snow (Fake ) but great effect.
The Heron pub 3 doors up is fantastic also dog friendly.
The cottage owners are a dream to deal with absolutely nothing is too much trouble.
What are you waiting for book now ! ;)

A stunning location with a beautifully equipped cottage. Well thought out with excellent amenities. You can sit outside on the decking and watch the boats and see all the coastal birds come and go. A great pub three doors away making eating out a real pleasure. Dog friendly too. Fabulous walks on the doorstep along the estuary. If you are looking for peace and tranquility this would be hard to beat.

I found myself clicking all the excellent buttons at the start of this review because there seemed be no reason not to.

Well done Phil and Lubi. Clearly you want to be comfy when you go to the cottage yourselves!

Super cottage and stunning views in an idyllic location ideally situated for exploring the beauty of Cornwall. Thoughtfully renovated and very comfortable, dog friendly and touches such as the cream tea on arrival very welcoming. Owner very helpful and lots of information provided prior to stay. The Heron Inn, 3 doors down with excellent food ( and again, dog friendly), was an added bonus!

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful fully equipped cottage with garden and amazing views from the front terrace. The location is perfect, being just a stone's throw from an excellent local pub selling good St. Austells beer and food. The boat goes from just down the road and Falmouth is within easy reach by car.

A truly stunning cottage is a fantastic location. Everything has been thought of when you stay here - from the kitchen which has everything you could think of - to the terraces with the most stunning views. One of the best places we have stayed and we will most definitely be back.

The owners of Fal River Cottage have created a lovely relaxing space. The cottage still echoes that sense of bygone times but marries beautifully with the contemporary. The welcoming touches were just the ticket after a long drive and extremely thoughtful. The river views and weather lent themselves to much dining alfresco on the front patio whilst watching the world ebb and flow. We took our stand up paddle boards so an early morning paddle was a highlight. There is a slipway only meters from the cottage.

The cottage has everything you need to have a great holiday and the owners are keen to provide you a comfortable stay, reassuring you that they are only at the end of the phone, creating that further personal touch.

The location of the cottage makes it a great base to explore Cornwall and car-free ways of appreciating the area included: A walk to Truro, the train to Falmouth and at Falmouth quay catch ferry back to Malpas, such a lovely way to return back 'home'. Lovely St Ives was all the better for catching the train from Truro (changing St Erth) which overlooks the iconic beaches that remind you of the riviera.

Other trips: Visited Penzance (the lido is lovely) but a real treat was the beach at Porthcurno and the MInack Theatre.

The Heron Inn is definitely a local food recommendation. There is free off-road parking which is limited when the sun is out and The Heron is busy. A good portion of fish and chips is to be had at Sole Plaice in Truro.

A taxi to Truro costs circa £8 each way during the day using a2b taxis. There is service bus 496 (smaller single decker bus) from Malpas to Truro £2.30 adult single which stops at the Heron Inn but is limited to only several times a day.
