We stayed in November. The cottage was so cosy and warm. The dogs especially loved the large enclosed garden, which has stunning views with mountains directly at the back of the cottage. We took far too much stuff that we didn't need. Plenty of dog towels were provided. Cleaning products under the sink. Plenty of dishwasher tablets, and fairly pods for the washing machine. The welcome pack of butter, milk, shortbread biscuits, cookies, cooking oil etc.,were a lovely surprise. We were lucky enough to have snow, which we love. The island is absolutely stunning no matter which direction you travel! Because of the time of year, there wasn't much open in Dunvegan so we had to travel to Portree which is 40 minutes away. The little shop in Dunvegan was a blessing for the odd groceries. We did our main shopping at the co-op on Portree. If you want peace and quiet this is definitely the place to stay!

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave a review of your time at the Byre. You certainly experienced some wintery weather which makes Osdale feel even quieter, if that's even possible! I am glad your dogs had a good time - it was a pleasure to see them enjoying themselves at Osdale.

If ever there was dog friendly luxury accommodation, this is it . Well equipped and clearly thought out from tick removers to my favourite coffee . The dogs loved their biscuits. You have set the bar high now. Beautiful setting and a cars ride to many attractions. We will definitely be back. Thankyou.

Osdale Byre is an absolute gem. A beautiful location, immaculately presented and above and beyond generosity. From the welcome bag housing local produce and a fresh loaf to the thoughtful touches (treats for the dogs, an abundance of coffee pods and dishwasher tablets), they have really thought about what makes a self-catering holiday as easy and luxurious as possible. The interiors are cosy and homely as well as stylish so you feel you are staying in a home not a self-catering unit. Incredible views, secure area if you take your dog and in easy reach of lots of walks, beaches and attractions on Skye. The digital guidebook with arrival info etc is brilliant and they are so easy to get in touch with too. We loved every second and will definately be back. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your detailed review of the Byre. We are thrilled you liked Osdale so much. As you know, we are fans of holiday accommodation that feels like a home. We think that's even more important here, where you can't guarantee decent weather - the place you stay becomes very important then!

The Byre is a wonderful property set in a very beautiful location with amazing views, convenient for Dunvegan. The interior is light and modern with beautiful furnishings, everywhere was clean and the owners had thought of everything to provide a very comfortable stay… the kitchen very well equipped, the boot room very useful for drying clothes and doggy stuff… the garden a joy for our Cockapoo! Despite poor weather we really enjoyed our stay at the Byre and would thoroughly recommend.

There is part of me that thinks a stay at Osdale comes into its own when the weather is awful! Somewhere warm, inviting and cosy is just what you need when it's too wet for spending the whole day outdoors. We are pleased you enjoyed your time here and thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

Just got back from a fantastic week staying at The Byre. It was our first visit and we weren’t disappointed. A beautiful”home” to come back to at the end of each day. There are countless thoughtful details and this was extended to our dog. The house is incredibly comfortable, cosy, warm and practical. The outdoors space is also lovely. Lucy and Anne couldn’t have been more helpful and their digital guide is fantastic. Really recommend it if you are planning on visiting Skye.

My wife and I joined my wife’s sister and husband for a wonderful stay. Access to great hiking right out the door and accessible by short drives to all the many wonderful hiking/activity locations on Skye. One snafu with our car rental (lost key) led to us meeting wonderfully nice people who helped us resolve the issue. The local cabbies were so gracious and were great sources of information and history of the area around Dunvegan and the Isle of Skye in general. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook any meal. Anne and Lucy have created a very special place.

Anne Williams replied 221 days ago
No one wants to lose their car keys, but even then you looked at the positives that came from the situation. Hopefully you'll be able to return at some point in the future and discover a few more spots on Skye that you missed this time round. It would be a pleasure to see you back here.

We waited an extra year to come and stay at Osdale Byre and it was well worth the wait. A special place to stay and relax with a stunning view of Dunvegan village and behind the Byre Mcleod's Table. We were greeted with a lovely welcome pack and a well equipped kitchen a rare thing these days and Anne and Lucy made us feel very welcome and even checked up on us to let us know that they were they if we needed them. Our dog loved investigating the grounds safely as there is a fence all around the property to ensure the farm animals were safe as well from any visiting dogs. The accommodation was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. We will definitely be returning to the Byre.

This is my10th time staying at Osdale Byre (either the Byre or the Farmhouse) - which essentially says it all...I LOVE it!. The location of the cottages are second to none and the customer service as always is excellent. Both cottages are beautiful, inside and out, extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. All the sheep and cattle on the track up make you feel at home and give you a very warm welcome (alongside the gorgeous Osdale welcome pack). The dark skies at night above the cottages are stunning and you have the opportunity to see so many shooting stars and the northern lights, if you are lucky. Situated below Macleod's tables overlooking the pretty small town of Dunvegan, this location is just idyllic and a perfect place to relax and reflect. Far enough away to feel a stunning isolation but close enough to the town for essentials and all other fantastic locations across this stunning Isle. We will be back and look forward to returning in the near future - it is simply a delight!

I think you know Osdale better than us! Thank you so much for your review and, more importantly, thank you for coming back so many times. I'm so pleased to hear you love the dark skies. On a clear night it is a magical experience not to be missed.

We stayed at Osdale in January the week Skye decided to have the worst snow in 20 years and what a week it was!

On arrival we had a lovely welcome pack waiting for us with fresh eggs, bread, lovely sweet treat and treats for the dogs along with a hand written note to welcome us to The Byre.

Osdale Byre is the most dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in. The heated floor helped keep the dogs warm when it was freezing outside and the beautiful log burner kept us warm. Not that it was really needed due to the floors keeping the Byre nice and cozy. There were dog towels, bowls and poo bags left for us in the boot room and blankets for the couches if the dogs wanted a cuddle.

Due to being snowed in for a few days we all enjoyed the beautiful peacefulness of Osdale. We walked the dogs in the surrounding areas and walked down into Dunvegan to collect a few supplies from the wee petrol station which was always open.
The kitchen has everything you could possibly want and as everywhere is closed in January we did a lot of cooking. Everything was easy to use and locate and the big dining table made for a very social space.
We watched a few of the DVDS that are provided by Osdale but we were also able to access Netflix and Amazon Prime for those days where it was a little bit too miserable outside.

Anne and Lucy were fantastic hosts. Anne checked in on us via email to make sure we settled in ok and when the snow came Lucy popped up in her 4x4 to ensure we were all ok and didn't need anything. Nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel right at home. Prior to our stay we also received a little postcard and a Christmas card which was such a personal touch.

I can say for sure that we will be back to visit Osdale soon and for anyone who wants to stay in a very peaceful part of Skye in a great location for adventures, I couldn't recommend Osdale more.

Anne Williams replied 331 days ago
What a week you had! While it probably wasn't the week you were anticipating it sounds like you made the best of it. Maybe we should invest in some sledges for next winter! I am pleased that the Byre proved to be a warm, cosy retreat after snowy walks to Dunvegan. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back sometime without snow so you can explore more of Skye.

Despite traveling 2000 km, we were at Osdale Cottages for the third time - which is actually compliment enough. Osdale was the icing on the cake for our week in Skye. Anne and Lucy are wonderful hosts, they really have thought of everything you may need and nothing is too much trouble - thank you both. The Byre is in a brilliant location to explore the island but also you feel just at home hunkering down inside if the weather isn't the best. The attention to detail makes the cottage feel so welcoming and we really couldn't have asked for more.

For two very keen hikers with two very keen dogs, this was the perfect stay for us. Like us humans, the dogs were also well catered for and most welcomed. The outdoor enclosed space was great for them to explore and the boot room was a godsend to sort both them and us out after a day in the hills. A great digital guidebook was provided upon booking which gave us everything we needed, if not more, to make the most of our stay. We did some amazing walks off the beaten track and we never felt stuck in the hustle and bustle of tourists. We also planned some shops and eateries to visit on our down days, with help from the guidebook. I cannot think of anything that hasn't been thought of.

There is something very special about sitting outside at Osdale with a morning cuppa looking over the most amazing landscape. Its the best way to start any day and I thoroughly recommend anyone thinking of booking to do so.

This wonderful cottage sits in the lee of MacLeod’s Tables and looks out over the loch towards Dunvegan village. It is a quiet and beautiful place. The only sounds are the wind, the grazing animals nearby, and the occasional cries of skylarks and curlews out on the moor.

We stayed for a week at the end of July and enjoyed some beautiful sunny days. The Byre has everything you need, comfortable beds, a very well-equipped kitchen, an easy-to-handle wood burning stove, and great shower facilities in the two bathrooms. The downstairs bedroom is ensuite and the family bathroom is next to the utility room behind the kitchen at the rear. There are outside chairs and tables and Bar-b-que facilities if needed. There is good Wi-Fi connectivity. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the care and thought put into the accommodation is second to none.

Despite its comparative remoteness the surrounding villages provide more than enough local shops, cafes and restaurants to keep you stocked for cooking at the Byre or eating out. We highly recommend the general grocery store in Glendale, and the local stores in Dunvegan, only around 10 minutes away by car.

The surrounding area has some wonderful highlights: we went to Neist Point lighthouse with amazing cliffs and seabirds and out to catch the sunset on a beautiful clear evening at the Coral beach beyond Dunvegan castle. The castle and fabulous gardens are a must (even if you aren’t a MacLeod!) and the seal boat trip from the pier just beyond the castle is highly recommended. We saw Harbour seals and lots of wonderful birds. And just behind the cottage is the start of the climb up to the MacLeod’s tables which dominate the skyline in this north eastern corner of Skye.

All in all, the week was a pleasure and the Byre comes highly recommended

We were a family of four (2 boys: 2 and 7 year old) staying for a week at Osdale at the end of August/early September. The house has a fantastic quiet location away from it all at the foot of Macleod's tables but with great views of Dunvegan, the loch and the hils beyond. We could scramble with the boys straight out of the gate but were also only 10mins by car from the village shop, bakery etc. The house is arranged in a flexible way that suited us and having the large boot room was really helpful. The kitchen is really well appointed and feels like everything has been chosen with care and not just what would be deemed sufficient. There is a great selection of maps and walking books that helped us find some beautiful spots away from the busy 'honeypots' of Skye. The communication from Lucy and Anne was fantastic from the point of booking onwards with a welcome post card and regular emails and an excellent guide to the Island. We would hope to come back one day as there was still so much to explore.

Thank you Anne and family for a perfect holiday cottage break on Skye. The cottage is perfect and one of the best we’ve stayed in, location is awesome and such a great place to relax.

The attention to detail both at the cottage and information before is excellent. We’ve stayed at a lot of self catering cottages and villas both in UK and abroad, but the attention to detail and information (such as the personalised card, email info and app) are above and beyond what we have experienced before.

We loved our holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Skye is beautiful and you are in a perfect location. We travelled to Harris the week after and seeing the distinctive Macleod tables in the distance was a lovely reminder of our stay.

Thank you!

We stayed for one week in this wonderful cottage. On our arrival a nice welcome package was waiting for us. The house has everything you need, even towels to dry the wet dog. With a great view across the hills and down to Dunvegan you can spent all days at the cottage, but then you would miss the other highlights in the area. Neist Point lighthouse is only 20 min away. The steep cliffs are amazing. We enjoyed watching gannets, cormorants, and guillemots. Starting from the cottage you can crest MacLeods Table North. From the top you see the bays and cliffs like a map in front of you. It’s fantastic. Osdale Cottage is the right location to explore especially the north of Skye.

Thank you for your lovely review of Osdale Byre. It is quite tempting to do very little once you get to Osdale but I am glad to hear you got out and enjoyed other parts of Skye. Climbing Macleod's Table is quite an achievement but so worth it for that amazing view!

The week in Osdale Byre was a pleasure from the beginning to the end. On our arrival everything was well prepared. The house was equipped with all the items needed or desired for a holiday home. Our recommendations for your stay:
a) Osdale cottage (Dunvegan) can be integrated into a roundtrip through Scotland. We arrived at Newcastle upon Tyne with the ferrybout from Ijmuiden (Netherland) and went via Edinburgh and Inverness to the Isle of Sky. On our tour back we passed Fort William, Glasgow and Newton Stuart before arriving at Newcastle.
b) Consider to take bicycles with you. We did and parked the car on the day of arrival and used it next on the departure day. In between we enjoyed daily tours in various directions with distances between 30 and 60 km.
c) The weather during our week was extraordnary good which can - of course - not be guaranteed. Take one or two good books with you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Your trip across Scotland sounds great and I am pleased Osdale was part of it. I am also pleased you were able to use your bicycles so much - what a great way to experience the island on a beautiful summers day.

The most wonderful cottage, family-friendly, well equipped, and lovely decorated. We felt welcome and at home. Great hospitality, and the welcome goodies were highly appreciated upon our late-night arrival. Our kids absolutely loved it, and we'll definitely be back!

We loved the remoteness of Osdale Byre, surrounded by the most amazing views, and with the Macleod Tables on our doorstep. The location gives you quick access to the most beautiful hiking, biking and running routes. Over the course of the week we explored the local area, hiking the Macleod Tables from Orbost back over to the Byre, and from Orbost along the coast to the Macleod Maidens, also from the other direction from Ramasaig Farm down the coast towards Lorgill Bay. We ventured out to Waterstein head and Neist Point Lighthouse and spent a day driving over to the Quiraing for a spectacular hike. It was so lovely having the comfort of the Byre to come back to, which was comfy, cosy, and well equipped. The open plan layout with the wood burning stove was the perfect set up for returning from a long day in the hills. Despite its remoteness the surrounding villages provide more than enough local shops, cafes and restaurants to keep you stocked for cooking at the Byre or eating out. We highly recommend the wee tardis of a general grocery store in Glendale, and the local store and Fruit and Veg shed in Dunvegan, and it was well worth the effort in the kitchen for the delicious local lobster and crab we got from Loch Bay Shellfish.
If you head up in May you also have the added joy of seeing the wee bonny bouncy lambs playing in the fields surrounding the cottage.

You have ticked every single box for what we would look for in a self catering cottage. From the outset your communication was professional and friendly. The cottage was spotlessly clean. Your attention to detail is faultless. Loved the arrival hamper and the dogs loved their 'welcome biscuit'. Having the dog covers for your furniture, the dog shower, dog towels, boot room - all made our holiday so much easier and we relaxed very quickly into our home for 5 nights (which went far too fast!)

Your location is spot on! We felt the remoteness with the knowledge that Dunvegan was within a 10 min drive away.

We all loved our stay and will be sure to stay again :-)

Short version: great property (hard to fault), but an awful unsurfaced driveway: undulating with large rocks, gulleys, etc. for the best part of 800 metres. It looks fine on StreetView, but when we stayed (Nov 2022) it really is only fit for 4x4s.

If you are thinking about staying at this great little property, I would drop the property a line first to check what the status is of the driveway. If you own a 4x4, you should be fine (it might even be fun!) - but if you are either driving your own normal car or a hire car - I'd not be comfortable staying here again until I'd seen photos of and been assured that all 750-odd metres of the driveway had been made passable again. It clearly needs some work to level, surface, and incorporate drainage to manage the volume of water that flows down it and wrecks it.

The weather clearly takes its toll on the driveway - and there didn't seem to be any man-made drainage, and so the driveway basically turns into a river, with the water washing away large chunks of it, creating the gulleys, and exposing fairly chunky and in some places quite sharp rocks Until it's fixed (and with some reluctance - as it is otherwise great), we wouldn't be able to recommend this property to others.

Beyond this, it's a well-equipped place to stay. Hopefully the driveway gets sorted, and we might very well be back!

February 2023 Update: Work on the track continued over the winter. Stones and gillies have been removed and a new surface laid. We now have a track that is easy to navigate. November 2022: Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your review of Osdale Byre. Lucy and I were pleased that you found the Byre itself hard to fault. You commented on the farm track. We have always advised against the use of cars with a low suspension at Osdale but have, over the last three years, welcomed many guests who have travelled in a regular car without any problems. However, we know that in the last month exceptionally heavy rain did make the track harder to navigate, particularly for those not in an SUV or 4x4. Following the torrential rains we immediately commissioned a local contractor to undertake repairs. You’ll be please to hear that work started this week and, by the time we reopen in February, we expect to have a much improved track from the one you experienced in November. I am sorry this work could not be done in time for your stay but hope you can see that it is in hand. We would be very happy to give you, or anyone considering a stay, an update on the track at any time. Please give me (Anne) a call on 07712 820494.

This is the most dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in. Not only did it allow us to bring 3 dogs but they had home-made biscuits, luxurious dog beds, bowls and other items.
Local toiletries were very much appreciated and the welcome pack of provisions was a special treat. The style and comfort of The Byre really made this a “home from home”.

Anne Williams replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of The Byre. We are really pleased that you found this to be the most dog-friendly place you have stayed in. It's important to us that dogs feel welcome and enjoy their holiday - there's nothing better than seeing your dog relaxing by the fire in its bed after a day walking. It's great that you found the Byre to be a 'home from home'. We have tried hard to provide a comfortable, cosy place to stay. With Skye's autumnal weather, it's particularly important that guests have a wam, welcoming place they can return to at the end of each day.

Another great visit

Osdale cottage is in a lovely location surrounded by hills with views of endless sky. It's beautifully appointed with everything needed for your week in Skye. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review of the Byre. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and felt the Byre was a home from home as that's one of our main aims at Osdale. We always find it frustrating staying in self-catering cottages that don't provide all you need to cook a meal from scratch. We try and provide enough so it's possible to cook a full roast dinner!

We had a fantastic stay at Osdale. Filled with creature comforts, everything has been thought of. Really appreciated the supplies for our dog Bonnie, a dog bed and towels for drying down saved me bringing our own.

First we came there were all sorts of cows and calves around, a really nice welcome ceremony. We opened the the door and were in the garden in front of us the house. We did not dare to expect such a nice house! Indoor we found a kitchen wonderfully furnished, we did the nicest menu! We could wash and tumbler, but we admired most the view.
The birds around the house were nice to observe and we did 2 walks just from the cottage to the hills around. You have to found your path, but that's what we liked to do. On our first walk we saw a herd of about 40 deers. The views from up the hills were fantstic.

Thank you so much for your review. It's always really nice to hear that what guests have done during their stay. I am glad you enjoyed the Byre and found the kitchen had everything you needed. We like to provide a well-equipped kitchen so guests don't feel they need to eat out all the time. Good to hear you saw lots of wildlife too. Walks up towards Macleod's Table provide good opportunities for seeing deer and sea eagles.

This is the third time that we have stayed here so in that itself says a lot. The location is super two cottages up a lane, which makes it very peaceful. The lane itself you have to be careful driving up and down but this is said on the Osdale booking site, there might be the odd sheep or cow going about on it but have never found them to be a problem. The cottage itself is well equipped with all essential day to day things, washing machine, dryer, fridge, freezer, stove etc and all in good condition. The living area is well set out and comfortable with a tv, dvds, books and what is on in the area. There is also a stove if needed or electric radiators for an extra heat. The bedrooms are spacious with one being ensuite, the main bathroom is a fair size which is just off the bootroom. Dogs are made very welcome here with towels, a dog bath, training lead, and a nice dog treat for them. There is outdoor seating which is really nice to sit and just watch the world go by. We find this a very relaxing place to stay after a day out walking in the area. We hope to make a fourth visit. Thanks again Osdale.

Not our first visit to Osdale, very peaceful location and excellent standard of accommodation. Very clean throughout and great to relax of an evening with the log burner on and a wee dram from the nearby Talisker distillery. Edibane lodge or the nearby 3 chimneys resturants were both good for food and the Oyster shed at the back of the Talisker distillery also worth a visit. Will be returning next year for another relaxing week.

Lovely cosy cottage in a stunning location. Spotless throughout. Fab kitchen with all the usual items you might require and more. Really comfy bed. The Owners had provided a comprehensive guide to the area - things to do, places to visit, places to eat and lots of useful tips. They had also very kindly stocked the fridge with milk & butter, and left a loaf of bread and a bag of treats - a lovely gesture. Guide books and local walking maps on the bookshelf.

My partner and I have just returned from a brilliant week spent at the Byre with our two dogs. The cottage is very well equipped with a very homely feel. It has amazing underfloor heating which is an added bonus. The views from the cottage are spectacular. The welcome package was a lovely touch and gratefully received.
The dogs were also well catered for with beds, towels, treats etc and absolutely loved the garden!! It’s remoteness was perfect to get away from our usual busy lifestyle, but close enough to visit the island’s attractions. Anne and Lucy were very accommodating and their communication was second to none. We would highly recommend Osdale to anyone thinking about staying in Skye.

Lovely little homely well appointed cottage in good, but remote location with wonderful views. Fitted out to a high standard with good quality equipment and comfy beds and bedding which is often lacking in other holiday lets. Thoughtful welcome pack containing essentials - Bread, milk, eggs and a sweet large handmade doggie biscuit. Cottage contained everything we needed, including a really useful dog bed, whcih although we brought our dog crate for nightime it was really useful to have a dog bed as well. Set in grounds that were decent enough for our dog to play and run around a bit with a ball. We didn't really find that there were any suitable dog walks straight from the cottage, we did have to drive everywhere so that is one downside to the location. Only other downside, which we often find in self catering places is there is no cupboard space in the kitchen to store any food that you bring or buy whilst there so you end up having to leave it out on worktops which limits the space and clutters the sides.

Customer service and welcome pack were both great too. Was nice to have an online welcome pack so that you could view away from the cottage whilst out and about. The cottage was a short 10 minute drive from Dunvegan; which for a village in Skye had several shops and eateries. The bakery and Jans's cakes are both well worth a visit.

Note the cottage is down a long track which is rather bumpy and rocky with pot holes so may not suit everyone and the broadband is very slow, which was only an issue for us as we needed to log on remotely to work a few times. Picking up the odd email problems wouldn't cause any problems.

Overall defintely one of the best self catering places we have stayed in and would recommend and stay again. It certainly felt that the hosts had made every effort to make you feel welcome, at home and comfortable in their property.

Anne Williams replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough and helpful review of Osdale Byre. We were so pleased to read that you think the Byre is one of the best holiday cottages you have experienced and that it had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. You mentioned a few downsides. I am pleased to say we hope to improve the satellite wi-fi with a new 4G connection in the next few months. We expect this to be faster than it is now but accept that our remote location means we will never be able to offer the fastest speeds. You mentioned storage space in the kitchen. We have now created some space for grocery shopping in the cupboard under the stairs. Regarding suitable dog walks from the cottages, it is correct that roaming sheep limit off-lead walks. This is a limitation across Skye where sheep roam freely, so we often use a tracking lead to exercise our dogs. We leave one in each cottage for guest’s use too - while it’s not running free it’s the next best thing. There are some local walks where dogs can enjoy time off-lead but, as you say, they require a short journey in the car. These are listed in our digital guidebook that guests receive upon booking. We are very grateful for your feedback. This helps us provide guests with the best experience we can and helps potential guests decide whether Osdale is the place for them.

Osdale Byre was perfect in everyway and beyond expectations. Our hosts had thought of everything and the cottage is extremely well equipped, cosy and comfortable. The early morning view of the sunrise over the MacLeod's Tables was truly memorable and the walks from the cottage invigorating. We (husband/wife/dog) stayed at Osdale Byre for a week earlier this month. Despite its rural location and distance down a track, the Byre is extremely well prepared for visitors, to a high standard of comfort, and very thoughtfully equipped. The views from the windows emphasise its remoteness and the walk up the nearby Macleod's Tables, although challenging, was very rewarding. You just strike out from behind the cottage and follow the sheep tracks. Decent map and walking gear essential, but you will not meet a soul. The cottage has funky furnishings, there is everything you need in the kitchen, two good bathrooms and lovely bedrooms. At our home we have open fires, a log burner as we cook on an elderly Rayburn solid-fuel stove, so we are familiar with fires. Therefore, if we have any minor criticism, it is the eccentric log burner in the living room at the Byer, which seems to be more about appearance than functionality. It has a very tiny firebox, too small for most purchased logs, and does not stay lit for long without regular attention. We could not find anywhere selling the small briquettes. But with very effective under-floor heating, the Byre was never cold. Skye has many well-publicised natural attractions and up-market restaurants, which we avoided. Locally, we thought the Old School restaurant was fine. Two good pubs selling hand-pump bitter (rare in the highlands and islands) are The Old Inn at Carbost (good food as well) and The Stein Inn on the Waternish Peninsular. After our week at Osdale we went on to the Outer Hebrides and Skye is a very convenient and lovely stop-over for the Uig to Tarbert ferry. We had an excellent week at Osdale, with helpful hosts available of needed but otherwise leaving you alone. Thank you to them. Stewart and Mary

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review. We are pleased you found the Byre well-equipped, comfortable and characterful. I am sorry the wood burner was a disappointment though. Inherited from the previous owners. it's long-term future has been debated on several occasions so it's very useful to hear the experience of a guest. I am pleased to hear another guest tackling Macleod's Tables too - a great walk if the weathers fine with amazing views at the top.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Osdale byre, the house is great with beautiful views. There was plenty of space for the two of us and our two dogs, they enjoyed the garden and the large boot room was great for them. The Byre is very well equipped with everything you need, it is in a quiet position but close to Dunvegan and many other places to visit.
We look forward to visiting again.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Osdale Byre. The cottage's location is perfect. It is not far from Dunvegan, and the views from the cottage are beautiful, rain or shine! The cottage was really comfortable and clean, and we all felt right at home; dogs included! The dog towels and lead were a great help too. And can't forget the little bits left for us, which were a lovely touch, especially the biscuits for the 2 dogs! We couldn't have had a more relaxing stay, and we will definitely be back.

Our second time staying at osdale byre, it has recently been updated and is in a very peaceful location, the views from the cottage are excellent, we were left a welcome pack for our arrival which was very handy even the dog got a treat left for him. We have booked to go back next year. It is in easy walking distance to Dunvegan about two miles.

We had an amazing week of sunny and warm weather whilst staying at Osdale and what a difference this can make to your stay in Skye!
The cottage is wonderfully situated along a track below the Macleod Tables and has lovely views towards the Cuillin ridge and Dunvegan Bay in the other direction. The cottage is very well equipped and very comfortable living space for 4 people and a dog.
Although the track leading up to the cottage is slightly rough this adds to the feeling of being off the beaten track and slows your pace to holiday mode!
We managed to do the majority of the local visitor highlights and the traffic wasn't too bad at all and enjoyed trips to Portree, Fairy Pools, Old Man of Stoer, Dunvegan Castle, Neist point, Coral Beach, Fairy Glen and met up with friends at Elgol for some Kayaking....
I would certainly recommend Osdale for anyone wanting to experience the North West of Skye as well as having a very comfortable and homely cottage for your holiday.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The kitchen was amazing and well equipped, the living room was the perfect size, with the log burner being a great feature (even in the summer). Bedrooms were cozy, plenty of storage and the bonus of an en-suite bathroom.
The cottage location was perfect. The farm track road requires some attention at the bottom as its quite bumpy, however, this could be easily resolved.
Would thoroughly recommend this property to others and look forward to staying here again in the future.

Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased you liked the Byre and its location. You are right about the track just as you turn off the road - it does require a very slow speed at the moment. It's is on the list of things to do and hopefully should be done in the Autumn. Update: The track has been repaired by the road and no longer so bumpy.

The Byre was a wonderful place to stay. It has been beautifully appointed and has lots of lovely touches to really make it feel like a home from home. It has a peaceful location with great views over Dunvegan and McLeod’s Tables and is in a great position for day trips over Skye. We had some wonderful walks including the Waternish peninsula and the Coral Beach. The dinosaur footprints at Staffin were unexpectedly fantastic and we combined with climbing the Old Man of Storr. Book early for local restaurants- The Three Chimneys was excellent and we also enjoyed a meal at The Dunvegan. The cottage was a wonderful base for our stay on Skye and on our rainy day the cottage provided lots to do to keep us busy!

We booked this property for it's excellent cancellation flexibility - fully expecting to have to use it, due to the pandemic. However, we happily were allowed to travel from Tier 2, at a time when most of the rest of the world was locked down. Our stay was utterly blissful.

The cottage was immaculate, the communication from the owners was spot on, and it was the perfect change of scenery and escape after months of working from home. Beds were SO comfy, and the whole living space was gorgeous. Even in late November - when the forecast was pretty rubbish - we only had 1 day, in our whole week, of genuinely bad weather. The rest of the time we got out for some stunning walks, and had a burst of sunshine every single day.

We were really touched by the welcome of dog-biscuits, eggs, butter, home-baked bread etc. The decor/ furnishings are top notch, and the underfloor heating is so lovely in winter. It was too mild for us to try out the fantastic looking wood-burner. We'd highly recommend and would definitely come back. Thanks so much.

I spent a wonderful week at Osdale Byre. The house is beautifully decorated and felt like a home away form home. The views from the cottage are absolutely stunning, and the location is perfect. Lucy and Anne made me and my dog feel very welcome, which I especially appreciated as a woman traveling on her own. I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back again soon!

Key to a wonderful holiday is where you stay and our holiday at Osdale Byre was very special. Sat below the striking Macleod's Tables the Byre commands beautiful views and from the moment we turned the key and entered we felt very much at home. The Byre is spacious and beautifully furnished a very comfortable base which to explore this fantastic region of Skye. Highlights of our stay included having breakfast and watching the sun rise from the breakfast table and the absolutely wonderful dark night sky, a real treat for stargazers.
Situated very close to Dunvegan which has the castle, walks and excellent shops, cafes takeaways and a brilliant little bakery.
We also recommend visits to Nishe point, Waternish point walk from Tumpan, Coral beach at sunset, Dinosaur footprints at Staffin and Duntulm and a visit to Quairang
We will certainly be back and we heartily recommend Osdale Byre if you want a home away from home on beautiful Skye

We had such a fantastic time at Osdale. From the initial emails when booking through to the time we spent there, it was excellent. Really thorough COVID clean, which made us feel so reassured. Lovely setting off the road, so it felt secluded despite being a great base to explore Skye. Do not hesitate to book!

The Byre provided us with a great place to stay for our time on the Island.

It is cosy, very well equipped and an incredibly lovely place to stay. Great care has been taken to tie in local crafts and art within the Byre.

The Byre is ideally located for exploring the Island.

We were really fortunate to have great weather which meant that unfortunately we didn’t get to use the log-burner. Hopefully next time!

We had a wonderful time at The Byre as Anne and Lucy's first post-COVID-lockdown guests. We felt supremely relaxed throughout and the owners' hospitality/genuine friendliness stood out. We will be recommending Osdale to everyone. And albeit at the north end of Skye, it was a stone's throw from Dunvegan, so easy access to all the sites. Thanks, Lucy, Anne (and Ned)
