A lovely county castle surrounded by Belted Galloway cattle and sheep. The castle grounds have a fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. Tobias is truly a wonderful gentleman and host. He prepared an amazing breakfast both mornings which consisted of local flavors ( haggis, blood pudding, potato cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage). Tobias gave us a tour of the chapel and grand hall with interesting history. Baron James prepared a formal dinner which was also delicious. We are Maxwell descendants by DNA and name so the link to this castle is intriguing.
Once again, Tobias was the perfect host to 2 excellent nights & days. We have every intention of returning next year and would say staying here was one of the highlights of our trip. 5 *.
Wow what a beautiful experience we had in the Lady Maxwell room and at Buittle castle. From start to finish our break was so relaxed, peaceful and charming. Tobias is a calm, empathic and tuned in host. I am neurodivergent and often struggle with intimate settings but Tobias was present when he needed to be and stepped back at the right moment. The breakfast was perfection. After this stay I would definitely return and try the private dining experience too. We didn't indulge in the hot tub but it looked lovely with beautiful views out to the gardens. The night sky was beautiful with little lig...more
