A lovely county castle surrounded by Belted Galloway cattle and sheep. The castle grounds have a fruit trees, herbs and vegetables. Tobias is truly a wonderful gentleman and host. He prepared an amazing breakfast both mornings which consisted of local flavors ( haggis, blood pudding, potato cakes, eggs, bacon and sausage). Tobias gave us a tour of the chapel and grand hall with interesting history. Baron James prepared a formal dinner which was also delicious. We are Maxwell descendants by DNA and name so the link to this castle is intriguing.
I had the most fabulous stay! This is a unique experience. In addition to the beautiful room, make sure you take in the gorgeous gardens and take a drive in the lush countryside. The owners care tremendously (it’s their home as well) - their dedication shows. I will certainly be back!
A big thank you to our host Tobias for a wonderful stay - and an exceptional dinner and breakfast. We really couldn't fault anything, from the warm welcome and charming room to the outstanding meal and the little touches like sherry and our name on the door. Would highly recommend this to anyone who likes something a little different and appreciates older buildings and history. A Premier Inn this is not - and all the better for it!
