Attached to the owner’s house but totally self contained “The Byre” is a luxurious cosy retreat for two. We loved the festive touches which made it an extra treat for us. There is a secure parking space and outdoor seating in a patio area by the back of the property plus access to shared (with the owner and another rental property) gardens and seating areas.
Newbiggin is a small residential and farming village (no shop) tucked away from the main road but within easy walking distance of a dining pub on the main road.
We had a very enjoyable weekend at “The Byre” and hope to return.

First stay at The Byre and second on the property - we loved the cottage, which has a lot of character with a large fireplace, comfy sofas, exposed beams in the bathroom. Kitchen is very well equipped. Loved the bed, excellent sleep. The owners Diane and Andrew are the best hosts you can imagine - very helpful, friendly and welcoming but never intrusive. The Location is very rural but still close to shops and pubs. Already booked again…

We were lucky enough to discover Cottage in The Dales in 2015 & have stayed here every year since, sometimes twice a year, in The Byre or The Dairy. It's simply a lovely place to spend time in this beautiful part of England. Either has everything you could possibly need, and probably more, for a cosy, comfortable, relaxing stay. The standard of furnishings & equipment are absolutely first class. And Diane & Andrew take great pride and care in providing their guests with a wonderful stay, it's very easy to see why most of their guests are returning ones.

A fantastic cottage in the Yorkshire Dales. Clearly a great deal of thought and care has been put into the layout of this beautiful cottage. The owner who lives in the next door farmhouse could not have been more helpful with settling us in and making sure we had any information we needed. Its a super place in a lovely part of the Yorkshire Dales. We loved staying there and will definitely return again.

This was our 4th stay at the Byre and it feels like our second home. The experience just gets better every time, with great attention to detail and excellent customer service. There is so much to see and do in Wensleydale and would recommend this to everyone. The lovely garden is a beautiful quiet area to sit and relax and see the spectacular views out towards Wensleydale and Bishopdale. We hope to return.

We were able to book this cottage because of a late cancellation and we’re so glad we did. The cottage was perfect: spotlessly clean, fresh bread in the bread maker, butter, milk, jam etc all provided in the welcome pack. Diane was waiting for us when we arrived and showed us around. We felt at home immediately. The cottage is very comfortable with a large comfy bed (choice of pillows and duvets!) and an impressive en-suite.
The village is attractive and quiet with lots of walks (and a great pub) nearby. We had a wonderful break here and we hope to return.
We could not fault this cottage - it had everything you could think of!

We wanted for nothing at The Byre. The cottage was a joy to be in and we felt at home straight away, especially with the very adequate fridge and freezer, just like at home. And the fresh baked bread on arrival was so welcome. We could happily have spent the whole week just enjoying the cottage and its wonderful gardens!
However, we ventured forth and accessed beautiful countryside and wonderful things without having to drive very far at all.
The first evening we drove over to Swaledale and listened to the moving and stirring Muker silver band, another day we drove again into Swaledale and walked in the hay meadows. We also climbed Morpeth scar above West Burton and were rewarded with magnificent views. Diane and Andrew were kindness itself and couldn’t have been more welcoming.
We came home, feeling very rejuvenated, and can’t wait to return.

This is the third property run by Cottage in the Dales where we have stayed and is our favourite. Like the other two, it is of an extremely high standard being beautifully furnished and comprehensively equipped. It is warm, comfortable and welcoming, a real home from home. Although situated in a small hamlet there is a very good pub within a few mins walk and it’s a short drive to Leyburn for shops and cafes. Diane and Andrew are very helpful and hospitable owners.

This is our 3rd stay at the Byre and was lovely as always. Even though Diane and Andrew were on holiday themselves, Diane texted to see that we had arrived and were settled in, now that is service with an extra smile. Cottage was clean, tidy and warm. Lots of information about local events, as some of the Christmas markets had started. So nice we're coming again next May.

Because of covid we had the Byre Cottage booked for 3yrs. We were so excited to finally come all the way from New Zealand to a bit of Yorkshire in the Dales with lovely walks close by.
Diane gave us a huge welcome and as she opened the door to show us around..the aroma of freshly baked bread surrounded us Mmm. There was also some boxed chocolates and Champagne added to our long awaited arrival.The Byre cottage was spacious and suited all our needs for a 3 week stay perfectly. The big King Bed and big bathroom upstairs, both with views over the pastures made it picture perfect. We needed for nothing, and if we did! Diane or Andrew were onto it straight away.

This was our 4th stay in The Byre. It is one of the best cottages we have stayed in, The Dairy been other. It has everything you could want for a S/C holiday. All the appliances are of the highest quality. The bedroom gives you an excellent nights sleep and the ensuite with its power shower is just what you want to start the day.

We have stayed in the Byre many times and it never disappoints. Even though it has been running for several years now it still feels like new. Plenty of utensils to rustle up a meal, loads of information about the local area, shops, restaurants and things to do and masses of information about and history of the Yorkshire Dales in the various books in the cottage. Diane and Andrew always on hand for advice and information. Nothing is too much trouble. In warm weather there are various outdoor spaces to enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of tea listening to birds either on the private terrace or the seating areas in the extensive well managed gardens. The property is well placed to explore either the southern Dales (Wharfedale, Littondale or Malhamdale etc) or the northern Dales (Wensleydale, Swaledale and Dentdale etc), although Bishopdale itself can be explored from the door. Highly recommended luxury cottage equiped with everyting you could want or need including smart TV, internet access, books and a log burner in a stunning landscape.

We were fortunate enough to stay at The Byre for a week at the end of October to mark our retirement. The Byre is just simply stunning, we've stayed in a lot of self-catering properties over the years, in the UK and abroad, and this was by far and away, the best! We wanted for nothing and the attention to detail by Diane and Andrew was first class. We can't wait to find time in our retirement diaries for a second visit. To cap it all the autumn colours were simply stunning.

We enjoyed our stay a year ago so much that we booked a return trip to visit places we hadn't had time to see last October. The Byre is a wonderfully welcome base from which to walk and explore. Diane and Andrew are helpful and enthusiastic hosts. Newbiggin is situated in a beautiful spot and the views of open skies are a delight in all weathers.

Gorgeous cottage set in a beautifully maintained garden with a lovely view to the distant fells. The cottage had all the amenities and luxuries you would want and felt like a real home from home. A lovely smell of freshly baked bread greeted us on arrival and fresh milk, butter and cheese (Wensleydale of course!) and a box of chocolates. Lots of local walks in the immediate area and well sited to visit historical towns, castles and abbey ruins. Diane and Andrew were the friendliest of hosts and made sure we had everything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

We have been visiting the Byre for a number of years now and the standard has never dropped. The property has everything you could possibly want and more for a relaxing stay in the Yorkshire Dales. In good weather you can have an aperitif on your own private terrace or in the garden overlooking Bishopdale. The kitchen is well stocked, the lounge cosy and comfortable, the bedroom sumptuous and the bathroom equipped with huge bath, walk in shower and 2 basins. Large fluffy towels and bath robes provided. On arrival a welcome pack of fresh milk from a local farm, butter, cheese, jams, chocolates and biscuits. Decaff, instant and ground coffee and tea all provided to get you started. All in all you’ll feel right at home as soon as you arrive and you’ll love returning to the cosy warmth after walking in the beautiful and stunning Yorkshire Dales. Thank you one again Diane and Andrew for providing such an idyllic retreat

We previously stayed in The Dairy in January this year so jumped at the chance to stay in the Byre, due to a cancellation.
Diane & Andrew are fantastic hosts and make you feel so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble.
The cottage is tastefully furnished and they have thought of everything you might need to make your stay special. The bread oven is usually ready to dispense a lovely loaf of bread. Tea, coffee, milk, butter, cheese and chocolates are also left as welcoming gifts.
There's plenty of tourist information leaflets and Diane will always help or suggest places to visit.
Weather was amazing while we were there so we had a couple of "slobby days" enjoying the sunshine in the garden.
I would like to keep these little treasures to ourselves but would highly recommend this property but you have to be quick booking as people return year on year.

This was our second stay at the Byre. We had fond memories if how impressed we were with the accommodation on our first visit. We were not disappointed on our return. Diane and Andrew deliver a quality of service and holiday accommodation that sets a high standard that we've yet to find equalled. They have continued to invest in the property (a new sofa and armchair, car charging point added) whilst ensuring that maintenance and cleaning ensure that the cottage furniture and fittings look like new. The peace and quiet of the location and the views across to hills the other side of the valley just ensure you that you just relax and feel very calm.
There is a lot of outstanding Dales scenery, walks and market towns to visit, or just sit in the garden with a drink, a good book and enjoy!

We arrived to the smell of home baked bread, and a fridge stocked with fresh milk from a local farm, butter and cheese from Wensleydale and luxury chocolates. These are just a few of the welcoming touches. Even though this rental property is perfect in every way, the owners are vigilant about updating and improving the quality of the fixtures and fittings. The sofa and armchair have been replaced since our last stay and there are plans to upgrade the shower. We have stayed here on a number of occasions over the last few years and it remains consistently welcoming, spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable - a true home from home. A kitchen with eveything you need if you want to wrestle up a meal in the cottage and plenty of information on local eateries if you don't. And at the end of the day climbling into the comfortable super sized King bed enfolds you in the cosy bedroom which has plenty of storage for your clothes. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough, that is if you're lucky enough to find availability!

Diane and Andrew are extremely dedicated owners and their properties reflect enormous amounts of care and attention. They simply could not be more welcoming. The Byre is filled week in/week out with returning guests. That says rather a lot for the luxurious feel to the cottage and the extraordinary lengths taken to provide every conceivable comfort. We spent the week walking and exploring the beautiful countryside on the doorstep and close by, happy in the knowledge that no matter how tired or wet we might be on our return, the cottage would be warm, cosy and immaculate. As soon as we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the owners, Diane and Andrew and the smell of freshly baked bread greeted us on entering the cottage. Once again (we rent this property regularly), everything was faultless - exceptionally clean, generous welcome pack of local milk, Wenselydale cheese, biscuits, chocolates etc., crisp white linen and towels and generous White Company Toileteries. There is plenty of storage for clothes in the bedroom, everything you could possibly need in the handmade bespoke kitchen to cook a nice meal, prepare a picnic for a walk or you can just chill in front of the TV or listen to music in the cosy lounge area. In addition to all the first class facilities in the Byre, there are a number of outside spaces to relax with a cup of tea or a drink - the private terrace or the seating areas in the well tendered gardens with views over Bishopdale. Who needs the south of France or Tuscany? In good weather sitting in the garden is a joy, but in inclement weather you can snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove in the cottage. If you haven't been here before, we can highly recommend it, but book early as it gets booked up quickly.

Having visited this cottage on numerous occasions we were not disappointed. In fact it was probably our best visit as the weather for once was at its most glorious,with temps in the low 20s. This place has everything you could wish for,your hosts are always very friendly and helpful,with attention to detail and clenliness to the fore.The bedroom is beautiful and very comfortable,while the bathroom is just something else!.We managed to eat outside, it was so warm and sunny and had two hearty meals out in local hostelries. We've been staying with Cottage In The Dales since 2015, and plan to return many more times. The location is beautiful, lovely views from the cottage and ideal to explore this beautiful part of England. The accommodation is superb, beautifully comfortable and fully equipped, it wants for nothing. But what makes it truly special are the owners, Diane & Andrew, wonderfully welcoming & helpful and determined to offer their guests a great stay, no wonder most of their guests are returning ones. They're also very happy for guests to enjoy their beautiful garden, nothing nicer than sitting on the perfectly sited garden seat watching the sun descend over the Dales with a drink in your hand.

A beautiful cottage set in a lovely quiet corner of the Dales with fantastic views from the terrace. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and were always available if needed to offer help and advice to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The cottage itself was very cosy and well equipped and had everything we needed - a real "home from home". The Street Head Inn served a great Sunday lunch and is a 5 minute stroll from the cottage and we can recommend the Tack Room at the Wensleydale hotel in Middleham for a delicious dining experience. Middleham itself is well worth a visit - a town with a historic feel, being twinned with Agincourt. Leyburn is also a delightful town and only a 20 minute drive away. A walk around Aysgarth Falls is very rewarding and we enjoyed a lovely local walk to West Burton.
All in all, a wonderful cottage set in truly beautiful and relaxing surroundings.

Just returned from another fabulous stay at the Byre in Newbiggin. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous, five star luxury. It has everything you need and more and is fitted out to the highest standard. The home made bread which was cooking on arrival was delicious, as where all the other treats left for us. Beautifully positioned for exploring the area with lots of fantastic walks, pubs and restaurants close by. If you are looking for top quality then look no further than the Byre or the other properties that are Cottages in the Dales. Diane and Andrew make you so welcome and nothing is to much trouble for them. Already booked our next stay and looking forward to another luxurious week at the Byre.

We had high expectations from our booking experience and pre-arrival communications. These were met and exceeded when we checked in. The Byre is a rarity in my experience of self catering rentals in the UK, Europe, Canada and Australia/NZ in that it really is "5 star". It is fitted out, furnished and equipped to a very high level e,g, Bosch appliances, Villeroy and Bosch chinaware, Harris mattress. On wet and windy evenings the Byre provided a snug retreat. The log burner creates a lovely atmosphere, although the central heating system alone will keep the Byre toasty. The huge bedroom has an equally huge bed and ensuite bathroom (two basins, two person bath and large walk in shower). We cooked in the cottage and found all the equipment we needed to prepare a full meal. We took advantage of the advance grocery order, a good introduction to local Yorkshire produce. The area is quiet and rural yet not far from a range of independent shops and eateries in Leyburn. We certainly plan to book again (as the many repeat guests already do- availability is at a premium!). Diane and Andrew are the perfect hosts, friendly and available for help, local knowledge/ tips whilst otherwise unobtrusive and leaving you to your privacy. Perfect!

We stayed at the Byre for a long weekend. we had a lovely time. The cottage is wonderful, nicely laid out with lots of nice touches and attention to detail.

The location is great - nice walks nearby and beautiful scenery on your doorstep. Or curl up in front of the log fire for a nice night in.

Lots of nice pubs within easy reach.

And the service provided by the owners was superb.

Overall we would strongly recommend and are already thinking about a return visit.

Even though we have stayed in The Byre many times before it never disappoints. The owners’ attention to detail, concern that their guests are safe and enjoy their stay is second to none. The Covid 19 safety measures made you feel safe and comfortable and they are always willing to share their local knowledge of restaurants, shops and places to visit. The Byre itself oozes luxurious comfort and charm - fluffy towels, large bath robes, plenty of White Company toiletries, super king comfortable bed, cosy lounge with wood burner, Apple TV and WiFi. Every possible cooking utensil, crockery, cutlery and kitchen appliances you could want including a picnic basket. The terrace and gardens are well maintained and lovely to relax in and nothing is too much trouble for the welcoming, friendly and professional owners. Absolutely faultless which is why we have booked to return in 2021 and 2022

This property and location in the North Yorkshire Dales was simply just perfect . The cottage had everything that was needed . On arrival we were greeted by Diane who explained where everything was and the welcome pack of tea or coffee , milk , freshly baked bread , butter , jams was very much appreciated . The view from the cottage looking across Bishopsdale was truly wonderful. We have already made a booking for a future holiday as we were so impressed by the facilities .

This cottage had everything we needed and more. Perfectly situated for access to the Dales National Park and everything it has to offer. We can honestly say that we have never stayed in a cottage as peaceful and luxurious.

From initial booking to checking out on our last day, everything was wonderful. Very easy booking process with quick confirmation from Diane. She is such a lovely lady and a great host. Very knowledgeable about the area and even further afield. The cottage is home from home (or maybe even better). Cosy and modern with everything you could need. Great kitchen and lovely living room with log burning fire. Much appreciated in January! large and bright bedroom. But our favorite is the shower!!! It is the best we have ever used (and the bathroom was also fabulous). Great views over the dales from the window.
The cottage is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area and within walking distance of the local pub!
Lots of information on walks and local tourist places, many books, games and DVD's.
Welcome tray was also provided to give all the essentials.
We had a very relaxing week and can't wait to return. Would highly recommend to anyone. Thanks again for a great time!!!!

I stayed here the night before our wedding at Bolton Castle and it was perfect. Really comfortable cottage and such lovely service. The only disappointing thing about our weekend staying at The Byre was the weather and hey it was November after all! One could easily run out of superlatives for the Byre. The location is great giving easy access to the entire Dales National Park. The cottage is beautiful and kept to the very highest standards of both cleanliness and equipment. Dianne and Andrew have left nothing to chance, the attention to detail is remarkable. A quiet lane on one side and a beautiful view over Bishopdale on the other, it would be difficult to fault The Byre at Cottage in the Dales. Nestling a few hundred yards from the main road in Newbiggin, the cottages are converted stone built former farm buildings. With log burners, oak beams and a beautifully maintained garden to the front, the accommodation comes with everything you need to relax. They even have torches and picnic baskets with coolers for the convenience of the residents. The rooms were spotless and kitted out to a very high specification. The owners, Diane and Andrew, could not be more accommodating or helpful.
We could not have been happier with our stay and look forward to the next one.

We had a wonderful stay at The Byre. The cottage is just perfect, so and cosy with everything you could possibly need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The hosts, Diane and Andrew were so friendly and helpful.
We will definitely return at some point, in fact we have already booked to stay in their other 2 bedroom property with our daughter and partner in the next village next year.

This was the second time we stayed at The Byre to visit the Yorkshire Dales. We know what we can expect when making a booking through Premier Cottages UK (unlike when making bookings through other companies) and The Byre is an excellent example of a luxury cottage available to book for a wonderful holiday in an idyllic rural setting.

There was nothing we could fault with the cottage. It was well equipped and comfortable to stay in. Diane was a wonderful host and we could not have asked for a more wonderful welcome. We would have no hesitation is staying at The Byre again when we next visit Yorkshire.

This is the second time we’ve stayed in the Byre at Newbiggin - and choose it a second time because the first time impressed us so much.
We’ve stayed in some beautiful places over the years and some amazing cottages as well but the Byre has to have been one of the best. The accommodation is beautifully and comfortably furnished, immaculately clean and presented, everything you could need has been provided with all furnishings, catering equipment etc being of high quality and matched.
Comfortable sprung queen size bed makes for the best sleep ever too. Large Bathroom - again well supplied with matching towels and “White Stuff “ shower /hand gels and moisturiser cream.
Outside the Byre is a private area again well supplied with seating and a table for outside dining overlooking the hills above ( beautiful sunsets ) . There are also lovely gardens surrounding the farmhouse complex which owners are happy for guests to use.
Owners and hosts - Diane & Andrew - these two dynamic and superbly friend couple live in the farmhouse next door and without being intrusive will ensure your stay is all you hope it will be.
Walking around the Dales is always a treat in store for visitors to the area but if you want to end your day with a warm and inviting home to come back to we would strongly recommend this venue as number one in the Dales.
Try it - you won’t be disappointed and like us will be wanting to return.

We had an amazing week staying in The Byre which is a beautiful property fitted out and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. Everything is immaculately presented inside and outside the cottage. The Byre is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The setting is stunning, with gorgeous views everywhere and it is incredibly peaceful. The Byre has a fabulous hand made kitchen, comfortable dining and living area with large inglenook fire place and log burner for colder evenings. Upstairs the bedroom is spacious and the large bathroom is beautifully appointed. Outside there is a large private terrace with views across the valley and access to the owner’s immaculate gardens. The terrace is furnished with a table, ample seating and during warm weather reclining seats and a parasol. Diane and Andrew are fabulous, friendly and accommodating hosts who have excellent knowledge of the area and can provide you with any amount of information regarding walks, how you may best like to spend your time and of course help with the amazing choice of excellent eateries in the nearby area. There is also a wealth of useful information to be found in the cottage to help plan your stay. You will want for nothing, there is even a pub within a very short stroll.
Cannot recommend highly enough, in fact we have booked to return in 2020.

This was our third visit and we were not disappointed. The standard of accommodation is first class, location idyllic. Attention to detail from the owners is second to none and their mission to ensure your visit is memorable. My parents stayed in the neighbouring Dairy Cottage and loved it! I booked this cottage for my partner’s birthday as a surprise. On arrival her words were ‘wow’ and I totally agree; everything was top notch and just perfect, up to the highest standards. On arrival we were were greeted by our lovely host and a tray of edible and delights including local Wensleydale cheese, jams, a fresh loaf of bread plus exceptional coffees and teas. All the rooms were also exceptional, the bathroom having a huge stand in shower, double sinks and really big bath for two. Fantastic views of the dales from the cottage windows plus a big garden to watch plenty of wildlife. A lovely quiet location in Newbiggin and a great pub a short walk away. A real luxurious treat all round which I would heartily recommend without reservation.

We chose well and it suited all our needs. We would find it hard to come up with anything not on hand or provided. The property was fully fitted with luxury, quality, very clean and comfortabl furnishings. All presented with an exceptional eye for detail. A credit to the owners, Dianne & Andrew.
The peaceful location was just what we were looking for, many walks and excellent pubs serving food locally. With much more to explore only a short drive away. We will by adding to our "must return to" list...... as 1 week was just too short, not wanting to leave!

We selected the Byre because it appeared to provide the level of accommodation that we were seeking. On arrival we were immediately impressed with the appearance and ambience of the property and the standard of the facilities provided. The local area is quiet and peaceful and within a reasonable distance of towns and attractions. We have stayed at cottage in the dales properties before and our recent stay confirms what we already know- all properties are exceptionally designed and furnished, comfortable, warm with lots of lovely extras such as log burner and plentiful supply of logs, quality toiletroes and a welcome pack on arrival. The hosts are true professionals who make all feel welcome but are not intrusive. Their local knowledge is of course good and this is represented in the information in the cottage. Parking is safe and secure and there are gardens to sit in in good weather. We will be booking again, and for anyone that has not stayed in this wonderful area, you really do want to book a stay in one of these cottages.

This was our second stay at The Byre and we cannot fault anything about it. Together with the other x2 cottages of the same owners they are by far the best cottages we have stayed in anywhere
The cottage is perfect for a couple to relax or explore= it has everything you need and more including outdoor patio with stunning views and a log burner for the more colder evenings.. The owners have thought of everything in terms of comfort and quality and the awards the cottage has received are very well deserved There is also secure storage for our bikes so we can explore the area cycling or walking.
We have already booked x2 longer stays for this year 2019 and are planning our 2020 stays as you need to book early - we love it

After previously staying at Inglenook I was lucky that The Byre was available for a short work trip I had to make to the area and though I already new what to expect it still gave me the 'wow' factor when I walked in. It has a lovely, cosy cottage feel while still containing all the facilities I expected and again all done to the highest standard. I have to say that the beds here and at Inglenook are the comfiest I have stayed in and remain the few times I have awoken without a stiff back (I wish I could fit one in my bedroom at home!).
It was a joy to end a long day driving/working with a long soak in the bath with the faint sounds of sheep and birds to sooth me.
Diane and Andrew again went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and had everything I needed and even offered to drive me to and from the local pub if I wanted to have a glass of wine or two with a meal, but the kitchen is so well laid out that, and the dishwasher, made a night in curled in front of the wood burning fire a pleasure rather than a chore.
I would say their cottages are like a home away from home, but I could only wish to live in that amount of comfort and luxury. I definitely left with a tinge of sadness and can't wait for a chance to stay again.

Quality accommodation with all the extras one needs to enjoy the perfect break.
Comfortable seating. Great kitchen with all the appliances and requirements
The most important thing though is the wonderful bed and a bathroom to die for.
The owners are so kind and considerate. My wife who had badly sprained her ankle the day before the holiday was so grateful for to the owners did for us including loaning us a wheel chair and additional equipment for the bathroom.

We were delighted to welcome you back to The Byre this time and of course to help wherever we could to ensure Joan could enjoy her stay rather than find it a chore due to her sprained ankle.
