This was a perfect location for our first family holiday. The kids loved "camping" although with all of the amenities, this is far more luxurious than camping. The safari tent was very well laid out and we were provided with everything we needed and more. The addition of the honesty shop was a welcome extra, in case you're in need of a few last minute bits and pieces. The location is also great, with many attractions and beaches all within a half hour drive. We look forward to our next stay already!

We stayed at Brackenhills for 3 nights over the bank holiday and had the best stay. The tent was so cosy, immaculately clean and the four poster bed so comfy that we slept really well with the only noise coming from a distant owl. The hot tub was lovely but takes a good few hours to fill and heat. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere with the 2nd tent in the field not visible and nothing in front but a lovely view of the church and the surrounding countryside. The honesty shop was a great idea and had some good supplies. The location is down some country lanes but not too far from the main road. The couple of minute walk down to the village is easy on the way down but up a steep short hill on the way back up. We visited both pubs for a couple of drinks and a lovely roast at the ship on Sunday. The owners of Brackenhills were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they were really friendly. All in all we loved our stay and could have happily stayed a few more days. The only thing i felt was missing, was when using the bbq, there isn’t anywhere to sit or a table to put food / plates on whilst cooking but we only used the bbq once so wasn’t a problem.

We thought the Glow Worm glamping tent was fabulous, the beds were very comfortable and the twinkling lights around the four-poster bed was a lovely touch. The living area was comfortable and the indoor fire came in useful in the evening. The shower was great too. BBQ and fire pit were nice additions. Kitchen was well equipped and the eco-friendly touches were welcome.
The countryside location was wonderful, we heard owls in the evening and we even saw a glow worm one night.
Another nice idea was the honesty shop which was well stocked with useful items, this was invaluable as there are no walkable conventional shops.

There might be a better Glamping tent/site but don’t bother looking. Brackenhill is simply perfect, you will not be disappointed. The beds are extremely comfortable, no chance of being cold at night as each bed had an electric blanket. The wood fired hot tub was amazing, once in you didn’t want to get out. The owners Alex and Simon have thought of everything.

We found Brackenhill by chance when accommodation booked nearby was unavailable due to storm damage. We’re so glad we did! Staying in a safari tent for the first time was a great experience and these are so well equipped. The setting, overlooking the village and rolling countryside is idyllic. The location is great for access to Dartmoor and the coast. We didn’t meet the owners as they were away, but self check in was straightforward and easy to contact them during the stay. The British weather wasn’t great for April but didn’t stop us from making the most of a fantastic and relaxing break!

My husband and I like to go glamping around the UK so that we can bring our Golden Retriever :)
This was by far the most unique experience we have had so far, as it was an actual house made out of tent! complete with kitchen, bathroom, lounge, decking and a hot tub. So comfortable, clean and spacious. The hosts provide a very useful guide book with beach recommendations - we went to Mothecombe twice and swam in the sea. 100% will return.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are really pleased that you appreciated the views (even through the terrible weather!) and the hot tub. Unfortunately, the weekend that you stayed the weather was spectacularly bad with torrential rain and thunder storms. As we are a glamping site (Glamourous Camping) we won't be adding TVs to the tents as we feel that this would be more appropriate in a hotel room or holiday cottage rather than an 'Escape to Nature' type experience. However, we do have WiFi so anyone in need of a digital fix could watch shows on their own laptop or tablet (plus there are board games and books available in the tent). We will have a look at further lighting options around the hot tub and inside the tent this Autumn. We had originally aimed to go for minimal lighting to ensure that we weren't contributors excessive light pollution but will certainly explore some options. Thanks again for the review.

We had a lovely week away in Devon, only marred by the British weather which decided to throw gale force winds our way on the first night. Winds and canvas aren't a match made in heaven. However, with earplugs bought on day 2 and the weather calming, we made the most of the trip.

Beds were comfortable, shower was excellent, and we loved making the venison potjie we ordered. We sadly didn't make use of the hot tub, or the fire pit, and we didn't need the wood burning stove, but we managed a BBQ one night and plenty of cider from the on-site honesty shop.

Take outs were within easy distance at Ivybridge when we didn't feel like using the induction hobs, and there are pubs within walking distance should parents need a break from the kids.

We didn't hear the neighbouring tent at all despite two different sets of guests - they're suitably distant from each other.

We played boules on the sloping lawn, and managed some reading in deck chairs in the late afternoon sun. All in all a great break.

Another fabulous stay at Brackenhill

Our second time staying in the Glow Worm safari tent and we weren’t disappointed. So lovely to see how the site has evolved over the years and even though there are now two safari tents, so much thought and care has been put in to ensure both have privacy. We enjoyed lovely weather and loved the wood fired hot tub which is a new addition since our last visit. I have no doubt we will return again

Wonderful few days at this beautiful glamping spot. Fantastic facilities, comfortable beds, great shower and kitchen facilities. Lovely views over the South Devon countryside. Alex was a great host. Kids loved playing by the stream, venison stew on the camp fire and the wood fired outdoor bath a real treat. Highly recommend!

We like the idea of camping, but we are oldies now, and those home comforts such as an ensuite and a comfortable bed are higher up the priority list. So this is our first experience of glamping and not the last, we hope. You get the lovely experience of sleeping under canvass, but with room to move around, a decent bed, a private bathroom with hot water on tap and decent water pressure in the shower. No spending hours unpacking the car and assembling a tent. It's a case of just arriving, receiving a warm greeting from the friendly owners, and putting your luggage on one of the convenient trolleys left by the reception area for the short walk to the safari tent.

Glow Worm has stunning countryside views from the South facing deck, with the church tower in the near distance jutting up above the trees. In fact, all the tent windows have lovely countryside views. At night it was unseasonably cold for July, but the log burner made the whole tent cosy in half an hour. There is a woodfired hot tub that we didn't try, and also a convenient barbeque and fire pit. An honesty shop stocks any essentials you may have forgotten and a few treats on top. We had the breakfast pack - it is great value and packed with local ingredients - traditional thick-cut bacon, great butcher's sausages, and eggs with massive yolks from free-range hens who live on site.

There is a lot to do around the area for families and couples. The village centre is a five-minute walk, if that, and has two pubs. We tried both. We thought the Ship Inn had stunning food and service. The Anchor is more than acceptable, but if you are only going to try one, in our view, we would recommend the former. Try the haddock Scotch eggs!

It is also worth noting the site’s green credentials, and a worthy desire to reduce the environmental impact of tourism.
All in all, we came here just to chill and have some quality time after a difficult year of having several close family bereavements and some health issues, and we have recharged our batteries. Just the tonic we needed, thanks.

We booked a 3 night break to just get away from it all and destress after the death of my father. It was the best thing we did! The whole experience was fabulous (despite the English weather) and we loved having the camping experience but with the luxury of a real bed & bathroom. We didn't make use of the outside fire and cooking facilities due to the weather but we made full use of the covered patio to drink wine and watch the rain. The church bells also added to the ambience but beware they do chime every half hour. The honesty shop was well stocked with a selection of essentials and also goodies - we made use of the ice cream in the freezer and a supply of logs!

A fabulously relaxing break and thoroughly recommended,

A lovely glamping tent which was perfect for our Devon summer mini break. The tent was very sweet and had a gorgeous view over the village. There are lots of lovely beaches and towns close by to visit. Alex was very helpful and friendly, great host! She answered all my questions and helped when we got stuck. We booked the tent for 5 and the fifth fold out bed was a bit queaky but apart from that a perfect trip and definitely recommend.

Thank you for the lovely review. Thanks for the feedback about the fold out camp bed - it is definitely more suited to children however we are aiming to upgrade it to a more robust model. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry to hear that you felt cold in the tent. The wood burner has a 5kW output and was specified by a HETAS Registered Installer. Whilst the weather was a bit wet and chilly for June it wasn't unseasonally cold (average June temperatures at night in Devon are 10 degrees celsius). Our advice to everybody who is planning on coming glamping is to bring warm clothes, especially if they feel the cold. We are also more than happy to provide advice on how to operate the wood burner to maximum effect and provide extra blankets on request; in addition to the thick duvets and hot water bottles we already provide for guests.

Alex and Simon went out of their way to give us a brilliant holiday. There are only two luxury safari tents on the site, with a large space between them, so it feels very exclusive. The views across the valley are breathtaking, and the stars magical on a clear night. The tents and site are perfect for our two little ones to have just the right amount of freedom (the mud kitchen and space for water fights were certainly popular!) and spending a "down day" just at the tent was one of my favourite parts of the break!

Thank you so much for the insider information on quiet beaches, walks and services locally - I don't want to highlight any though, to keep them quiet for when we inevitably return! There's really no need to shell out on paid activities because of the great location: we loved a day at the beach, splashing in the rivers in dappled shade, walking on the moor, toasting marshmallows, fishing and crabbing (even if Daddy did get a bit over-excited!).

We will definitely be booking in for next year, and can't wait.
