Elizabeth Fort dates to the early 17th century. The fort has played a hugely important role in Cork city since then. The walls of the fort offer a fantastic and panoramic view of the city below.

We loved our stay at the Parade House. It’s located in the heart of the city in an amazing historic fort.
We were hoping for a unique stay and the Parade House delivered.
Geraldine was responsive to our questions and while we never met her in person, felt fully supported in our stay.
The guides at the fort, especially Olivan, and the lovely owner of TWOMEYS shop across the road were also helpful and informative.
Finally, while it costs a few euro more than we Were hoping to spend, it was well worth it and we are happy to know that our contribution is helping to protect and restore this and other historical gems throughout the country. If we had more time and money, we’d try to stay at more of the historic properties across the country and highly recommend supporting the Irish Landmark Trust!! Thank you!

We loved staying at the Elizabeth Fort. It is a convenient location and the Parade House is very comfortable and well equipped. The manager, Geraldine, could not have been more friendly and helpful, as were the guides at the Fort.

Thank you for your great review and appreciation of Geraldine our great local House Manager of both Fort houses. As with all our houses, few have great Wi-Fi because of the thick walls of the property, and we do not have TV's in our properties as daytime is for exploring and night time is for enjoying a few games, great conversation, listening to the radio or enjoying down time with a great book, as happened in the days before all the tech was introduced.

We loved our two nights in Fort Elizabeth. Perfect location for the city but an oasis of peace at night and very cool to have your very own keys to the fort! The cottage is charming and well equipped with very comfy beds and an excellent shower. No TV and no wifi was refreshing so bring a book and a pack of cards. Made a lovely change from the normal self-catering accommodation or a hotel.

Thank you for your great review, this is one unique location only our guests get to experience, the fort gates are unreal when the guides have gone home.

Great stay at Parade House. Five minute walk from the main streets. Close to pubs and restaurants and a convenience store. Bit quiet at night, and no TV. But we ran the internet off our phones so all was fine. Staff were very helpful. Heating worked great.

Thank you for your great review, the fort at night and the big key for the old gates is surreal, the city of Cork is very clean with great shopping and a central base, great for exploring the rest of the county.

Very central location. Pretty house in historic setting with all the necessities. Great views from the fort walls over the city. No dedicated parking though on street disc parking available.
Worth taking the audio guide tour- learned lots.

Thank you for your great review. As a frequent visitor to the Fort, we drop off our luggage then park the car and the same on check-out. I hope this helps as we cannot secure parking spaces inside the Fort.

We had a fantastic break away in Cork City staying at EF Parade House. The house is very central to the city so access to great food, bars and sights on your doorstep. We felt very privileged staying in this house and the history surrounding the fort. The property is very cosy, and ticks all the boxes with regard to value for money and location.

Thank you for your great review. The location is the best in the city for an unusual self-catering house and when the gates close to the fort visitors, it is a surreal experience, as the whole fort is so very quiet at night.

We enjoyed a wonderful family stay in parade house . The house was so tastefully furnished in period style yet with all mod cons . The location so close to the city was perfect . The only thing that needs changing is the small single beds as they are uncomfortable for a good nights sleep . Otherwise all was excellent and we will stay in landmark trust properties again

Parking around the fort and in Cork in general is very tricky, so better come by public transport, if you can.

Had nearly finished a review previously but got interrupted near the end..and it was lost...that was a great review...I will try piece things together again here...first of all well done Geraldine..a great welcome and very practical..very good and prompt communication..and a shout out for Jen too..not employed by ILT but so helpful, welcoming and friendly too as we tried to enter and exit the fort...The absolutely best stocked and equipped ILT property we have stayed in and we have stayed in a lot.. great base for the city..unfortunately the parking issue will not go away and a 'contract' needs to be renegotiated!!.. plenty of people have parked there I am sure..before recent arrangements..there is plenty of room...it is very off putting..and not fully reflected in price or inconvenience..if we didn't know the city well.....either way allow an extra 80 euro for a 3 day stay in parking fees...otherwise a brilliant spot...sort out the parking.

Lorraine - Operations Manager replied more than 1 year ago
Thank you for your review and supporting the Irish Landmark Trust. There are plans for the internal grounds of the fort to be re-developed and there will be no car access at all for staff or our guests. I will bring attention to the cost of parking in the city to the relevant department. Geraldine the local house manager would be a good first point of contact for the best local parking rates nearby.

The Landmark Trust have done an exceptional job restoring this unique early 20th century property. Perfectly situated in the heart of Cork city in the unusual setting of the 17th century Elizabeth Fort, the house is cosy and elegant, mixing modern convenience with delightful period detail.

Thank you for your review and supporting the Irish Landmark Trust. We are very lucky to have 2 properties within the Elizabeth Fort walls, and after the visitors have gone, the whole fort is yours. The views are great over the city. Its lovely to hear positve feedback on our restoration projects, we try to keep our buildings sympathetic to the period of the property.

We really enjoyed our stay at Elizabeth Fort from the moment we walked under the Arch we were made welcome. The place itself was in such an unusual setting. The accommodation was very comfy neat & clean and although we were unable to met our Landmark housekeeper due to Covid She was very good about keeping in touch by phone and giving us loads of helpful hints re food & parking etc We would come back again. We had marvellous fun and met lots of very interesting people.

The most wonderful place to stay if you want to live within a fort in the centre of Cork city. The house has been sympathetically restored and is just full of charm. There’s a sensible mix of period furniture with enough modern conveniences to make a stay really comfortable. Huge support from the Trust staff to help with anything you could need. Now on our list of top stays ever, absolutely one to remember. Looking forward to a return visit

Parade House is a wonderful place to stay in Cork City - just minutes walk from the main thoroughfares. With views of St Fin barre's Cathedral from your kitchen & bedroom and elevated views of the spires of Cork from your sitting room window. The house is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean as you might expect from a Landmark Trust property. Hats off to Liz and the Trust for flying the flag for our built environment and raising awareness of our rich architectural heritage - which can be seen in spades in any short stroll from this property.

We loved our stay in this historic fort. It was such a different experience to other self catering properties and felt like a real step back in time. There were lots of little touches to ensure customer comfort and promoted a genuine feeling of welcome. The lack of parking was a bit of a nuisance but we were able to get parking reasonably near. It’s a great location for exploring the city centre, but we also headed out of the city to enjoy some of the surrounding coast and countryside. Highly recommended.

I chose this property as it was centrally based in Cork City, where we wished to visit. I was completely blown away by just how magical and enjoyable it was to stay in the property itself! The furnishings and intetior were stunning and incredibly comfortable, with just enough modern tweaks (such as a fab shower and washer/drier) to make the stay perfect. My choice in property was a surprise to my husband, who had chosen not to research Elizabeth Fort before our stay, and he absolutely loved it! Our property manager Liz was always reachable by email or phone and was very warm and welcoming. The fort staff were also wonderful and welcoming during our stay. The most magical part of our stay was opening the main door to the fort on a sunny evening, while passers by and onlookers watched in awe, as we entered and locked ourselves in for the night! On the first night of our stay we had the entire fort to ourselves, and enjoyed the stillness and silence provided by it's walls in the centre of a buzzing city. We would highly recommend to all holiday makers, and would most definitely love to return in future!

The house was just so comfortable, & warm too and beautifully decorated. A real home from home. The kitchen was well stocked too in terms of pots/pans and general items for cooking (we did quite a bit of cooking as the English Market is a short walk away with fantastic fresh ingredients). Of course the location of the house (in the middle of the fort) was just fabulous.

I am from Cork originally and was home for a number of family events, my entire family came to vist the house on various occasions as they were dying to see the inside. We all loved it!

All in all, a really special place to stay in the center of Cork. We will stay again.

Parade House is a fab house in a great location close to everything in a very secure loacation. It has all the mod cons of a new house but still has the old feel & look of an old house. The house has a nice touch of history to it. It feels like your walking in someone else shoes from the past. You can walk everywhere from there which is very handy. We throughly enjoyed our stay & would love to go back.

Beautiful stay at Parade house. Location is excellent, right in the centre of Cork City with shops, restuarants, Fitzgerald Park, UCC all right on the doorstep. In spite of being right in the city I was amazed at how peaceful & quiet it was in the evenings you could easily forget you were in a bustling city with the fort walls acting as a sound barrier. Liz was friendly & welcoming on arrival & suggested fitzgerald park which was great specially as we had a 1 year old daughter with us. All in all a fantastic stay in a lovley house.

During our stay, April 17 - April 19, 2019, my family of 5 rented both the Parade House as well as the Garrison House. We were greeted by Liz and we could not have had a warmer welcome! Liz was wonderful and helped us get our bearings and gave suggestions about things in the area. Thank you Liz! When we entered the houses we were pleasantly surprised! The pictures do not do justice to the homes! The houses were quaint, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We had everything we could need and even loved that we had the fort to ourselves after hours. The weather cooperated so that we could take advantage of the courtyard after hours to sit around the picnic table and to share some food and drinks while telling stories and just enjoying family time. The location was perfect for exploring Cork and I will recommend these houses to anyone interested in visiting the city. The family has decided that the Parade House and Garrison House are in our top 5 places we have stayed in Ireland on our many visits. Thank you Irish Landmark Trust. You are always part of my search when looking for unique places to stay in Ireland!

Our stay in Parade House was really enjoyable. Perfect spot for two people. Would be a trifle tight for three. Elizabeth Fort’s historical connections were a bonus enhanced by a guided tour of the Fort. Loved Cork city. Some promo material, brochures or flyers of places of interest etc. Would have been helpful.

We stayed in Elizabeth Fort for just two nights but did not want to leave. In fact, we fantasised daily about how lucky we would feel to live there. The House Manager Liz gave us the warmest of welcomes and instantly made us feel so at home. The House was absolutely spotless, cosy and full of character. Another highlight of our stay was getting to lock the sturdy gates into the fort in the evenings which gives you such a great sense of the history within it's high walls.
Thank you so much to Irish Landmark Trust for another memorable stay and for the amazing work you do throughout Ireland.
We will be back!
