The surrounding coastline is of a dramatic character with cliffs sculpted by Atlantic storms where rock ledges and caves are home to seabirds, seals and other maritime animals. Loop Head Lighthouse station is a major landmark on the northern shore of the Shannon River. The Lighthouse station is built on a clifftop with 300 degree views of the sea down to Kerry Head and Dingle and across to the Cliffs of Moher. Special Notes: The lighthouse station is reasonably remote, although Kilbaha village with post office, shop and pub is only 3 miles away. It is recommended that guests bring bottled drinking water as there is no mains supply at the station. Access to the lighthouse tower (for a fee) is only possible during the summer months when the tower is open to the public for tours.

  • Sleeps 6 people. 2 Double Rooms and 1 Twin Room (1 Double Room is located downstairs)
  • Welcomes 1 pet.

An incredible memory. We had two days off magnificent weather directly after storm Darragh. A wonderful feeling of coziness, wonderful isolation and detox from tech connectivity will never be forgotten. One word of advice if you decide to stay book three nights as we would have loved an extra day.

We all found the Lightkeepers House extremely cosy and comfortable. Mary was so welcoming and helpful. The house is wonderfully restored and very spacious and we had the best weekend there! We would all highly recommend a stay there and look forward to returning sometime in the not too distant future!

Having stayed in loop head as a couple we decided to return and Took our group of teenagers to loop head lighthouse for 3 nights over Halloween. It was a real return to basics. No technology as there was little phone/wifi service. We went old fashioned. Played board games. Competitiveness was hilarious. Walked, fished and enjoyed the peacefulness of the surrounds.
Our host Mary was as welcoming as ever. The location is outstanding. The accommodation was authentic and delightful. Spotlessly clean. Warm and cosy.
Would highly recommend staying there for a break from the rushing of modern life.

This way such an amazing experience and a view into a way of life that is no longer. The views were amazing and the house so cosy, with all we needed for our stay. We even got Storm Ashley on the second night to make the experience even better. Loved having no TV or Wi-Fi, so relaxing. I want to do this again.

If you love the wild Atlantic like I do, this is the perfect place for you. There are walking paths around the outside perimeter of the wall area that allow you to see an experience, the breathtaking views of the sheer rock cliffs. The House is comfortable and cozy and Sarah was a wonderful house manager.

Received a lovely warm welome from Mary. The house is warm and comfortable and the location is spectacular. Stayed with my brother, John. Our dad, Brendan, was a supernumerary keeper here in the 1950s. His first station appointment as a supernumerary keeper.

We recently spent 2 nights at Loop Head Lighthouse Keepers House. Mary greeted us with a warm welcome on arrival & showed us around the cozy house. The spectacular sunsets & wonderful views make it such a special location. Our youngsters were very impressed that scenes in the last Star Wars movie were shot very close by! We highly recommend it as a lovely place to spend a relaxing time.

The location of the property is absolutely amazing. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the dramatic coastline is stunning.
The weather was not at its best while we were there, we had wind and rain and some lovely sunshine. The wind and rain added to the atmospherics, and the house was totally cosy with a very effective heating system.
The highlights - the wonderful viewing window upstairs, we sat for hours in those comfy armchairs admiring the Kerry mountains in the distance.
The local Kilbaha gallery is not to be missed.
Best of all was the genuine warm welcome from Mary.

I love lighthouses. When my children gave me a gift of a trip to Loop Head for two nights I was delighted. The six of us headed off, taking with us...our dog. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. I have absolutely no complaints.

I do however, have one piece of advice. If you want to take the time to enjoy your Loop Head experience bring all the food that you need with you. We did this, and were able to maximise our time at the venue, rather than travelling the considerable distance to the nearest shop. The fridge, cooking and cleaning facilities were more than adequate for cooking for six adults. We were very glad that we had come prepared.

We stayed for a bank holiday weekend and had an absolutely wonderful time. Lots of walking along the cliffs - we saw dolphins, hares and loads of birds in their “apartments”. Went for a lovely cycle around the peninsula, and went for food in a spot recommended by Mary. Beds were so comfortable, and the reading room was such a lovely spot for a morning coffee. We were mesmerised by the lighthouse itself - delighted to get up for a tour, but even better to see it alone among the stars by night! Thank you so much to Mary and all the team.

Loop Head Lighthouse is located at the end of the peninsula. Therefore it is realy quiet and calm there after the lighthouse is closed for the public (at weekends at 5pm). Mary was very friendly and helpful. The house is very cozy and has everything you need for your stay. If you need a pub close by you are at the wrong place. If you need a relaxing view on the ocean come here.

We had a wonderful time at Loop Head Lighthouse. The weather was great & this added to our enjoyment. We walked all around & the view was stunning. Our bedroom was looking out at the light going round in the lighthouse. It was so different. Mary is brilliant, she welcomed us, showed us around the house & how things worked & told us to give her a call if we needed anything. It is an experience we will always remember.

We had a wonderful three night stay in the Loop head Lighthouse cottage in April. We were made very welcome by the caretaker and indeed by everyone we met on the peninsula. Calm seas, near windless days and plenty of sunshine enhanced our exploration of the immediate area around the lighthouse and beyond towards Kilkee and Kilrush and lots of places in between. There's no shortage of things to do. The cottage is very nicely done out and everything we needed to self cater was in it. We found it a very cosy and comfortable retreat.

We had a wonderful stay in loop head loved the location so wild yet peaceful.would definitely recommend it. Mary was lovely and very helpful. The only comment would be .A non slip mat would be helpful in shower. Two frying pans as there were two coeliacs in our group(we had not informed anyone of this when we booked so our mistake) just for future reference. Thanks for an amazing time liz

My extended family (six adults) stayed for three night in early April 2024, a time which coincided with storm Kathleen. The storm and sheer energy of the sea added to the occasion. The cottage was warm and had very authentic feel. Cleanliness was excellent and the property had all the appliances we needed. Great support and flexibility from the host on joining and leaving. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed another wonderful stay in a Landmark Trust property. So peaceful, a real escape. It felt a little less isolated than other properties as the lighthouse is open to visitors, so other people were on site during our visit. Frontroom was cosy, so we had a relaxing few nights playing boardgames. Weather was poor so no views across to Kerry unfortunately. We'll have to come back!

Thank you for your review, your stay not only covers the costs of staying in the property but also a portion of your rate goes towards the maintenance of this old landmark property, our pricing is very competitive compared to other holiday lets or hotels in the area, this location has spectacular views, the building has great history and we only increase the costs minimally each year with inflation, like all our properties and consider them all great value. We look forward to you trying your next unique location with us.

We (3 people and a dog) really enjoyed our stay in Loop Head Lighthouse on the edge Atlantic Ocean. Having stayed at Fanad Lighthouse last year prepared us for the experience, the internal setting being very similar, it was outside the building the difference in location was apparent. Unfortunately we were there in February so we missed out on the Lighthouse tour as this is only available from March onwards.

This lighthouse keeper's cottage is remarkably authentic. It is not particularly comfortable or warm: nor should it be. It is a splendidly isolated place and in winter there is nobody else around for miles. It was Bliss to walk the lonely clifftop path on a frosty blue morning and rest in the surprising warmth of the sun as the Atlantic rollers crashed below. We were as happy as children here.

This property should be comfortable and warm... its not fitted out with modern beds or decoration but with decoration that is in keeping with the property and the life the working lighthouse keeper experienced. There is suitable heating that you can boost to suit and a wood stove in the living room. Loophead has the original single glazed period sash windows that do let in the cold so we advise at night you close the wood shutters to keep the heat in.

We had a very comfortable stay at the light keepers house. It was warm and comfortable with all the facilities needed for cooking. We stayed in the loop head area and walked to the Éire sign just beside and had a hot whiskey in Foleys, a lovely pub in the village of Cross. Released, enjoyable and a very safe place to bring the dog. There is a large enclosed area around the house and lighthouse.

Mary was a fantastic host she was very helpful and accommodating. The house itself is beautiful and has a lot of character. Unfortunately the heating was problem and wouldn't work in the morning for us. Once we contacted Mary she was able to rectify the problem (Hard to contact in the house as there is little to no reception) The hot water also didn't work in the shower.
Overall it was a beautiful, relaxing stay.

Thank you for your review. The lighthouse is quieter out of season when the tours stop, making it very private. Thank you for your appreciation of keeping the house as original as possible and in keeping with how it would have been when the last keeper lived there.

What a beautiful experience and memory. We enjoyed the breathtaking location and the tech free zone . Accommodation is simple and beautiful . Cosy and warm . Mary was wonderful . The winter makes a great time for reflection and conversation . Fresh air makes for great sleep . Log / turf fires make for cost evenings . Well done .

Thank you for your review. This is a bucket list property, we keep the price in line with similar historic landmark properties, Loophead is about being part of the experience living as a lighthouse keeper, living on the cliff edge under the sweeping light, with little wifi to let you immerse in great conversation, play some old fashioned games or enjoy a good book. Our checkout times are our standard throughout, as the House Manager could have another arrival on the day you leave, this enables the next guest to receive the property in its best condition, and fix any small problems that may have arised during your stay, before the next guests arrive.

We absolutely loved our stay at Loop Head Lightkeeper's Cottage and would have loved to stay longer. It was about the midpoint of our tour of Ireland vacation, and it was such a perfect stop amid the busy trip. It was so nice to have a couple days with nothing to do but sit in the coziest cottage and read and listen to the radio and look out at the ocean. We enjoyed getting to go up in the lighthouse tower and hear about the history of the lighthouse. Mary was wonderfully sweet and so helpful. It was all just so wonderful, and we were sad to say goodbye. We hope to come back someday but bring our boys with us next time.

We enjoyed 5 days on the western edge of Ireland that were both tranquil and exciting. Tranquil because the usual distractions of TV/Internet were not there to bother us. And the mobile phone signal was variable to say the least. The arrival of Storm Agnes during our stay made it exciting too. Rain and high winds were the order of the day and, even when the weather outside became a little calmer, the nearby Atlantic Ocean lived up to its 'wild' tag.

On our last day we also experienced a power cut which lasted for several hours. Thankfully our attentive host, Mary, persuaded the ESB to send out a technician and she found and fixed the problem before darkness fell. All this in the middle of another bout of wind and rain! That evening we spent a cozy evening in front of the fire which we lit in case the power cut left us without any heat.

Apart from Mary herself, the staff onsite in the shop and lighthouse couldn't have been nicer. And that goes for everyone else we met in the nearby villages of Cross, Kilkee, etc..

For these two Dubs our stay was a refreshing antidote to the hurly-burly of urban life. We'll be back!

Fantastic view, stars like we had never seen, quiet solitude and utterly relaxing! There is limited cell service so a real chance to unplug. The cottage was cozy and the wind was crazy but so isolated, quiet and relaxing. We were sorry to only have two days. Will book a few more next time. If you know anyone that loves Lighthouses it is an adventure of a lifetime. Just an amazing experience!

When we arrived we were met by the House Manager who explained all that we needed to know, and answered all our questions. The residence was spacious and comfortable with the sitting room and the kitchen being the most used spaces by us. Our children loved exploring the rooms, and the grounds. I was very glad that the whole compound is walled so I didn't have to worry about the little ones getting out by the cliffs when they played outside. The kitchen was very nicely updated with all the service and utensils you would need for light cooking. We also were grateful that the tours of the lighthouse were only from 1000-1800hrs. After that the gate was locked and we had the location to ourselves. I would highly recommend taking a walk along the many paths because the views of the ocean and sky are spectacular. My wife and I even went out for a late night walk, which was a little windy, but we had the warmth of the Loophead light to guide us home.

We booked this stay for a family get-together. Our parents and ourselves stayed in the actual house itself, with the other members of our family staying locally. We held a barbecue on the Saturday evening and had everyone over for food and drinks.
The actual house itself has all mod-cons whilst retaining the feeling of an original lightkeepers house. The decor is traditional and very well appointed. It is a great experience. Sleeping at night with the lighthouse flickering outside the window is amazing. the sense of calm and solitude this place has is unbelievable.
We couldn't recommend this place enough.
Mary, the staff member who facilitates the check-in was so accommodating.
The other staff of the actual grounds and the lighthouse itself were great also. We all took a trip up the lighthouse and it is a memorable experience.
This is the perfect place for a getaway which is out of the ordinary.
I say it is the best place we have ever stayed for the entire experience.

What a beautiful location and a really comfortable house to stay in. A warm welcome from Mary & orientation of the house and systems highly appreciated. Beds really comfortable and kitchen has everything you could need.

We were lucky enough to have amazing blazing sunshine to make the long weekend unforgettable. The coastline is magnificent - make sure to visit the Bridges of Ross and follow the coast road to Kilkee. Keatings pub in Kilbaha has great food & smashing ice creams, with lots of outdoor seating. Tour of the actual lighthouse with Mary (mark 2) was terrific - interesting, informative and with amazing views as far as the Blasket Islands. Sunsets from the rolling cliffs, covered with sea pinks were magnificent. Sunrises, complete with large murmurations of birds and hares hopping around, even more so.

As a mixed generation holiday (grandparents, children and grandchildren), there was something for all ages and we'll definitely be back.

Four of us stayed for the weekend. We found the lighthouse cottage to be spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a third bedroom which we didn’t use.
We had lovely views of the sea. On our first day went for a walk and discovered the Eire sign.
We did the Lighthouse tour on the Saturday of our stay. It was very interesting.
We also did the Cliff walk in Kilkee. Tried the local cuisine at Keatings bar and restaurant ( the last pub before New York apparently) which was very hearty.
We also ate in the Long Dock which has won numerous awards for their food.
We would love to have hired out bikes, visited Scattery Island and maybe got as far as the Burren but we just ran out of time. We will have to return!
Just a small note to add is that you no longer need to bring bottled water with you as the cottage is now attached to the national grid.
One final word is we found Mary the cottage minder to be very friendly and helpful when asking about restaurants walks etc. I would definitely recommend a stay here. Best wishes Margaret

Our stay at Loophead Lighthouse just took our breaths and hearts away. What a privilege to be temporary keepers of the light on the most westerly tip of the Loophead peninsula with the sweeping majesty of the Slieve Mish mountains south across the Shannon and the wide expanse of the wild Atlantic stretching infinitely west, the stuff of the most inspiring sunsets; a beguiling landscape. We could only marvel at the light-keepers and imagine their way of life. Preserving these properties with such integrity is a fitting tribute. This was our first Irish Landmark Trust stay and has lit a fire within us for more holidays that provide something truly unique. We also enjoyed exploring the Loophead Peninsula, our first time there, and took a seaweed bath in Kilkee - needless to say we returned home feeling fully restored and well.

Wonderful stay at Loop Head Lighthouse - Mary was very accommodating re meeting us at the house when times were changing all the time due to the snowy weather!
The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the amount of fuel left for a fire for the first night - 4 briquettes and 5 pieces of kindling - one firefighter! We knew that we needed to bring fuel for the other nights but it would have been better to say from the off to bring your own fuel altogether rather than leave such a paltry amount - particularly as the power had been off all day due to storms so the first thing we needed to do on arrival was light a fire!
This did not distract from the lovely off grid experience and we did manage to get out and about every day despite the weather!

Thank you for your review of this amazing lighthouse experience. Losing the electric, probably due to the very poor weather, before your stay would have affected the heating in the house considerably, this is usually a wonderfully warm property, unfortunalely a rare outage is out of our control. We have taken on board the first night fuel complaint and now supply more fuel for the first night stay, Mary can advise where more fuel can be bought for the remainder of your stay.

It was a great experience that we had! 100% recommended. It's a shame that we couldn't visit the lighthouse as it's not open during winter time. As a suggestion, it would be great if someone is staying in the lighthouse, regardless the time of the year, they could have the option to arrange a visit.
The only thing I'd like to mention is that despite the website says there is a limit of firelogs to lit the fireplace, there was litlerally none and only 1 match to light the fire. Thankfully there were smokers in the group and we had a lighter.

Thank you for your review. The lighthouse is automated so no lighthouse keeper is required on site, Loop Head is the lighthouse cottage the keepers used. The opening of the lighthouse itself is out of our control and the winter months would see very few visitors to the point, and may be the reason the local council does not provide a lighthouse guide. We do advertise on our website all of our properties provide fuel for the first night only, and you must bring your own fuel for the rest of your stay. I hope you can return in the summer to experience a tour of the lighthouse and enjoy the views later into the evening

Great experience. The trust, staff in the office, and Mary on site, were warm, helpful and attentive. The property and location are utterly unforgettable. We had a wonderful stay and will absolutely do so again. The experience was truly unique. Book with confidence.

Thank you for your lovely review. Loop Head lighthouse cottage had recently had a big amount of work done internally, to secure and save the building from the harsh elements. Its lovely to hear an appreciative review of our last conservation work on this building. Thank you for supporting our charity, I hope you can return or visit another of our lighthouse properties

We were a party of six that stayed for three nights and we all really enjoyed it. The remoteness and beauty of the place is spectacular. The lack of internet and phone coverage may not suit everyone but it didn't seem to bother our group at all. I would advise anyone intending to stay to bring plenty of provisions, music, cards, board games etc. as it is quite remote and a good distance from the nearest supermarket. I would highly recommend staying at Loop Head and I intend to go back again.

Like most of our properties, this is very remote with little wi-fi, an excellent opportuny to enjoy uninterrupted conversation with friends and family, a core value of our intended experience

Spacious and comfortable house with stunning location and views. Beautiful cliff walks, bird watching and lighthouse tours out your front door. The caretaker is also wonderful and willing to help with whatever comes up. Do be aware there are public tours and facilities in the courtyard during the day. It wasn’t a problem for us - we enjoyed access to the coffee each morning and still had plenty of privacy. Cell service also pretty spotty but worth it. Bring a good book!

We are just back from a fabulous few days in loop head. This break has been rebooked a number of times so we were delighted to make it there. It was stunning to wake up in such a beautiful location. We were lucky with fab weather. There’s so much to see and do in the area. Mary looked after us very well. The house is so comfortable. We loved it!

Good restaurants nearby, Keatings and the long dock . Mary our host could not have been more obliging , and staff at lighthouse were very friendly with coffee shop on site.

We stayed at the Loop Head Lighthouse for 3 nights in late June. It is a great location for exploring the north and south areas of the west coast, and about 1.5 hours due west from Shannon Airport. It is the complete opposite of Dublin - quiet, remote and more blustery weather. After o stay at Loop Head, we returned our rental car to Shannon & took the green bus into Dublin. For tourists who would like to experience both aspects of Ireland, I highly recommend Loop Head Lighthouse for the west coast location.

We had a fantastic 2-night stay at Loop Head Light Keepers house. The house is a very special place to stay. The selection of furniture and fittings really make it so authentic.Everything is there to make it feel like your 'home', but with stunning views and atmosphere. But then the sun sets and the place becomes extra special! When the beam from the lighthouse starts to light up the grounds the sea and the sky, it is utterly mesmerizing! Go outside and let your eyes adjust to the dark, then watch this magical display! Spectacular cliff walks and views of the ocean. Bucket-list location for sure.

We would recommend a stay at Loop Head to anyone wishing for a relaxing break in a remote, unique location. The house is comfortably furnished, though king size beds, instead of the doubles provided, would not take from the character of the house and would be more in keeping with what most people are used to nowadays. The kitchen is showing wear and tear and needs to be updated. Everything was spotlessly clean.

The scenery is incredibly beautiful in that area of County Clare. At the lighthouse the only sounds we heard were the waves on the rocks below and birdsong. The small upstairs sitting room has a wonderful view of the sea; at night we sat there listening to classical music on the radio until darkness fell and the beams from the lighthouse were visible over the water.

Some years ago we stayed in the light keeper’s house at Galley Head. That was also an unforgettable, good experience.

This was our second stay at the Loop Head lighthouse. Everything about our stay was excellent. Mary, our gracious host, was there to welcome us and to make sure we were comfortable. We slept like babies both nights in the comfortable bed, and during the day we explored the peninsula and visited some of our favorite places like the Kilbaha Gallery and Long Dock restaurant (both not to be missed). We look forward to returning again soon! We have stayed in many Irishlandmarktrust locations, and the Loop Head lighthouse is one of our favorites.

I had my reservations about staying here but I was wrong. The place was fantastic! The photos do not do the place justice.
Great location with a special room upstairs that look out to the ocean with two blue chairs, Mother and myself spent most of the time in that room when we were in the property.
There is very little to no mobile phone signal, I was with 3 Ireland and had 0 to 1 bar of 3g most of the time. Mother was with Vodafone and she was able to make phone calls etc.
There is one bathroom, located downstairs - so be mindful of who sleeps upstairs in either the main bedroom or the twin room.
The lighthouse lights came on around 8.30pm , so mother and myself spent almost 2 hours at night looking at the lights flashing.
There is central heating (oil), it did get chilly early mornings and at night, there is a stove fireplace but we didn't use it. in fact we didn't spend any time in the living room!
spacious kitchen with everything you need to cook, we brought our own stuff with us, as its a long way to the nearest shop, plus, it was out of the tourist season so most places were not open.
Great location to go walking around the cliffs , we met someone there who questioned going to the cliffs of moher, as the views at this location are amazing! - only difference is no shops/retail at this location
A great place to unplug from the world

The house was charming. We arrived in the dark with the lighthouse light welcoming and guiding us. Christmas lights were on in the kitchen window and it was lovely and warm on arrival. It took only minutes to settle in, lighting the fire and closing all the shutters. We could not wait to wake up next morning to explore. We awoke to the sound of the sea and lovely winter sunshine. Our stay was too short and the location and accomadation far exceeded our expectations. We look forward to returning. The Casey family, Boyle, Co Roscommon

What can I say... it's a fantastic experience. The lighthouse is at the end of the world, in a great way. The location is as remote as you could ever hope to be with the comforts of home. The cottage is comfortable and the views are Incredible. The weather changes by the hour which makes for some amazing sights. Sunsets are incredible.
Having the lighthouse on the doorstep is such a lovely experience and your House Manager Mary is welcoming, helpful and on call if you need anything.
Remember there is no tv or wifi so it's a welcome break from the day to day.
There is plenty of space in the cottage and a room just for reading, watching the sea and possible sightings of sea life.
The kitchen is fully equipped. Stock up with provisions, enjoy the day trips around the amazing Wild Atlantic Way and watch the sea roll by. I can't wait to go back :)

If you are looking for a holiday that’s a little different try this, the cottage is clean, warm and comfortable. The lighthouse is amazing at night. The views around Loop Head are incredible. You can cycle the Loop (69k) and a visit to Bridges of Ross is definitely worth it. You’ll need to bring food supplies with you as Kilkee is about a thirty minute drive from the lighthouse, there are several large supermarkets there. Mary the house manager is very helpful and you can text her with your queries or for advice. Bring some board games or musical instruments for evening entertainment, there’s no television and internet connectivity is poor. This is a brilliant experience and I heartily recommend it.

It is a fabulous location - the heating and hot water was a bit of an issue - beautiful house, wonderful stay - we had a wonderful time and would describe it as basic but comfortable.

Having stayed at the lighthouse in St. John's Point in Donegal previously, I had a good idea what to expect and my expectations were well met. I was really hoping for very bad weather to help fully experience the lightkeepers challenges during extremes of wind and a raging sea and I had booked for much earlier in the year when such extremes are more likely but due to Covid I had to cancel. I guess I'll have to try it again then.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the light keeper’s house. Beautiful old house fitted out with everything we needed. So peaceful and spectacular views. The fact that there was no TV and WiFi was an added bonus as it was a real break away. Even though we could not meet Mary due to Covid restrictions she was more than helpful and friendly in her dealings with us.
Would highly recommend a trip to this beautiful place.

What an amazing place to stay, from glorious sunsets, sea fresh air, cliff walks and schools of dolphins on your door step. In the evenings gather round the range and play board games or read or just watch the lights spin from a window. Mary the house keeper was so much help and easy to contact. We hope to return again very soon.

We have already visited Galley Head and the accommodation and set up is very similar. Mary, our host, was extremely helpful but, unfortunately, only spent a short time with us due to CV19 restrictions. She did manage to recommend the Long Dock in Carrigaholt approx 15KM away. The closest village is Kilbaha (5KM) but the pub there appears to be closed over the winter period. We went to the Long Dock on Saturday and Sunday just before it closed down due to CV19. Lovely pub/restaurant and the food was very good with extremely attentive and friendly staff.
The accommodation is basic but more than adequate and the beds were very comfortable. Cooking facilities are excellent if you want to eat in and there is an great Supervalu in Kilrush which is on route to Loop Head. No TV and phone access/WiFi is patchy. It may not have all the creature comforts of home but its a fantastic place to go for beautiful scenery and walks - unfortunately we were a bit restricted due to wet and windy weather. I strongly recommend you stand at the door to the lighthouse when its dark and look up - its Make sure you visit the Bridges of Ross that are close to the lighthouse. Strongly recommended.

We enjoyed this experience and the landscape trust were very accommodating to our needs we were met and looked after by Mary the caretaker whom then left us to our accommodation which was very comfortable. However, on the second night, we had a storm with high winds, this knocked the power supply and we took the decision not to stay a third night but it was a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend.

We have stayed out in Loop Head a few times before. It's a beautiful place to stay. The weather was wild but the house is cosy and warm, with a lovely open fire. Walking around the surrounding cliffs, gives you a perfect view of the power and wildness of the Atlantic. Not for the first time, I spotted pods of Dolphins out walking. If you are looking to get completely away from it all, I couldn't recommend it enough.

a mad notion early April to mark our anniversary by booking this accommodation in a location we had never been before; we live in an area blessed with natural beauty and have celebrated many visits to other parts of our small island to savour others. This was our first visit to West Clare, and in particular Loop Head. Early Oct realistically is not going to give you the best of Irish weather but we got lucky with sunshine hours to walk and even discover with local knowledge 'The Hanging Gardens' of yore. You pay a premium for the restored accommodation, but it lacks for nothing - might be considered a tad expensive given it is self catering, but all facilities are provided to make this very viable. we thoroughly enjoyed a 3 night stay and the house by the way can accommodate a much larger party or family. Mary Geany was a treat to deal with. Many thanks, Landmark Trust.

We (family with three children) stayed at Loop Head lighthouse for two nights. The welcome and the assistance at check-in couldn't be better. Given the busy travelling time of August it was an absolute highlight to be all alone in the area between 6 pm and 10 am! There is plenty of reading material in the house for bad weather. The walk along the cliffs was spectacular and we suggest visiting the Bridge of Ross where kids can climb around. We can definetely recommend to stay at Loop Head lighthouse!

Loop Head Lightkeeper's House was a beautiful, cosy and peaceful place to stay. The house was supplied with everything we needed. It was clean, warm and welcoming with fantastic views. The history of the house and lighthouse is very interesting, and it felt very special to experience living at Loop Head, particularly after 6pm when everyone had gone and the place is just for the guests.

The walks nearby, along the coast , were easily accessible. The scenery and flowers were beautiful. There was not a sound at night, just the waves. The light from the lighthouse was magical, sweeping around the grounds and across the water. Binoculars in the viewing room allowed us to watch out for boats and dolphins !

The house manager and the guides at the lighthouse were very welcoming. They were all very enthusiastic about the place and made us feel at home. The people we met in the area were equally friendly and welcoming. There seems to be a great "pride of place" in Loop Head.

We last stayed in this lovely house in 2003 and little has changed. It is in the most delightful location as long as one enjoys the remoteness. The Light house visitors arriving from 10 am to 6 pm are indeed an intrusion but it is so nice that the accessibility facilitates exist to open the Lighthouse to all.

We loved staying at Loop Head. It is in a wonderful location surrounded by spectacular cliffs and if you are lucky with the weather (we were!) you are treated to magnificent sunsets over the water. The building itself is a dream - the former lightkeepers’ home with several cosy rooms to sit in and great views from the windows. You can take a guided tour of the lighthouse itself which is fascinating and well worth doing. Mary the manager met us to hand over the keys. She was full of helpful information and keeps the house beautifully. There is a bird colony a short walk away along the cliffs - with guillemots, razorbills and kittyhawks. We walked there and back at about 7 in the evening - our only companions were the birds, a small herd of cows and the slowing setting sun. Just brilliant.

A group of us stayed here over a long weekend. It was magical. From meeting Mary our host who had the stove lighting and the heating on for us to our last look back at the tower of the lighthouse this was a brillant trip. Mary is great, very helpful and welcoming. This house has been restored faithfully, and was comfortable and cosy over a wild stormy weekend. The area is great, we walked along the cliffs each day and on our last day watched a school of dolphins fishing for hours just off the coast. We went for coffee and the most amazing local baking to Kilbaha Art gallery every day. There we got the warmest of welcomes and great local knowledge on walking, culture and music. We enjoyed all of them, the music and drinks in the local pubs.

We loved our stay at Loophead! The property was very clean and comfortable. Communication between us and the house manager was very good.
Really enjoyed the landscape and isolation - would highly recommend a trip here if you want to switch off. I hadn't done much research before our trip, so happening upon the Eire neutrality sign was a lovely surprise - visiting one has been on our list for awhile.
Pro tip: Bring a torch. There was a storm one of the nights we were staying and the electricity went out - not a big deal as there is a lovely stove in the sitting room that kept us warm/gave us light. Added a nice ambiance to the whole experience and the electricity came back the next morning, anyway :)

Surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean and the Shannon estury the lighthouse at loop head is a dramatic location to spend time. We battened down the hatches for a storm and spent quality time as a family. Watching the sea crash against the cliffs was amazing but our biggest thrill was always driving up the lane after dark and the excitment of seeing a working lighthouse in the front garden! What an experience.

It is fabulous to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Loop Head Lightkeeper's House so much. The lightkeeper's houses are such amazing places to stay in good weather but when there is a storm brewing they really become spectacular places to stay. Feeling safe and cosy when the waves crash against the coastline and wind howls in from the sea really is such an amazing feeling. Delighted you had a great time and we do hope to perhaps welcome you back in the future.

Fabulous Getaway.

One of my favourite places in the world to come and switch off. Beautiful landscapes. Proper Isolation. Cosy well kept house. Very tranquil having the Lighthouse being your sentinel at night.

Great stay in a remarkable setting. Lighthouse is the last stop on a country road towards the cliffs. The views are spectacular and the novelty of staying in a lighthouse is well worth it. Great location close to the wild Atlantic way and it’s nunerous sights and attractions and a bit far drive to the burren National Park. Bring a few drinks and stock up on food and enjoy the light and stars at night. Well worth it. Would have been nice if a little more fuel was provided for the wood burning stove in the sitting room. Excellent stay.

This was our best stay for the week while we were having holiday in Ireland. Mary, our host, had the ready for our arrival and helped us feel very welcome. The house is in excellent condition and was a great surprise for the end of our trip for my mom, who loves lighthouses. I would highly recommend this stay to anyone visiting. Loop Head peninsula was a great place to explore on its own and about an hour fifteen from cliffs of moher and Limerick.

We recently celebrated my husband’s birthday at Loop Head Lighthouse. It was a fantastic weekend. The cottage is so cosy & completely a different experience looking out on the beautiful Atlantic. The accommodation is comfortable & the kitchen has all the necessary items for self catering. Mary the host is amazing & so helpful! The walk around the cliff is beautiful & unspoilt especially the location of the Star Wars movie. Definitely one for the bucket list!!

My family had wonderful time at Loop Head Light House. It was like stepping back in time and a great time to relax and enjoy the family. My kids (ages 11 and 13) didn't miss televesion or wi-fi. There are wonderful hikes all around the lighthouse with beautiful views of the cliffs. It is also a great place to bird watch. My son especially loved that he found the location where a scene from Star Wars, The Last Jedi was filmed. The lighthouse is open for tours from 10 am - 6pm and offers even more breathtaking views of the surrounding area and you also learn about the history of some of the former lighthouse keepers. After 6pm, the grounds are completely yours. You can enjoy dinner and a few drinks at the picnic tables and then catch a beautiful sunset walk over the ocean. It is remote, but a 5 minute drive away is a small Bar & Restaurant, where can enjoy a drink and dinner on the water. 20 minutes away is Carrigaholt, with some great restaurants and ice cream. Then 25 minutes away is Kilkee. This is a very special place. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer, we were only there 2 nights.

It is always really so lovely to hear from guests that truly embrace the Landmark experience by cutting off from the world and tuning out from TV and Internet. And when we hear that even the kids enjoyed it as much, well that makes it all worthwhile. Thank you so much for mentioning this in your review and we know sometimes people can be worried about no connection to the outside world but when you stop, relax and take in the surroundings of a location like Loop Head Lightkeeper's House, then it really no longer matters. It actually turns out to be a real break and an excuse to stop and enjoy life in the moment with friends and family. Thank you so much for your support and we do hope to welcome you back again soon.

Staying in the last house before America, next to a working light house is amazing enough. But the location far out on a narrow spit of land adds to the feeling of being at the end of Ireland and yet cosily settled in a house renovated to modern standards but with a feel of 1930’s.

Charming and a true experience.

We recently stayed a few days here. I loved every minute. It was very foggy for most of our stay but that made the lighthouse light even better. There's ample space for 5 people and the comfort of the beds is fantastic. Irish landmark trust were beyond helpful throughout the booking process. The coastline is stunning and it truly feels cut off from everything (but in a very comfortable way). I would recommend this to anyone.

We spent a very enjoyable weekend in this unique property in a wonderful location. The house is warm, snug and restored with taste and care to retain the original character. The location is magnificent - huge, dramatic skies and the magical lighthouse beam sweeping the courtyard in the evening. Plenty for the family (including three boys aged 14, 11 and 8) to do in the locality - we swam and walked in Kilkee on a beautiful September day - and good places to eat locally too.

We had a lovely warm genuine welcome from Mary on our arrival. The lighthouse was warm, and we settled quickly. It's very well equipped, and had no TV or Wifi which helped us all switch off. The bedroom across from the lighthouse is amazing at night once the light comes on. The tour of the lighthouse gives a unique insight and compliments the stay so well.
If you need a break from the frantic pace of life- look no farther. The children thoroughly enjoyed the cottage, played with the board games, and spent ages with the binoculars, and gazing at the keepers light.

It really is so great to read when people share our passion to really switch off and reconnect with family and friends or even enjoy some alone time away from the busy world. We had 2 nights / ond full day out there as a Family of four. Twins 16,5 years of age. Wonderful place, as we like remote places, especially light houses. We got key and briefing from a very friendly lady. There is a very well restored building, so there is only you at the place. From 10am to 6pm lots of visitors nearby, but not disturbing. Out of These hours absolutely calm. You only hear the wind in the fireplace. What to do: walk around the lighthous along the cliffs: wonderful. You see birds hatching in there nests.
Great Kilbaha Galery and Crafts Shop with Caffee in the village - pay especial Attention to the genious Knitwear of Ekotree, which is offered there. You can visit the designer and Producer in Doolin (near the cliffs of Moher).
The Little Ark at Kilbaha Church is very touching indeed.
The visit of the lighthous itself was very interesting, the guides are nice and competent (the Team is completely independent from the Irish Landmark Trust).

It is set on such a stunning location and I am delighted to hear that you had some great weather to enjoy walks along the cliffs and to do a spot of bird-watching. We spent four sunny, windy, lovely days as a family of four - two parents and two college student children. Absolutely loved Loop head. Grat views, comfy beds, good kitchen, and the entire lighthouse area was only ours after 6 pm. The guides during the day are friendly and funny. There is a steady stream of visitors and one of two campervans in the car park outside the lighthouse compound but it mostly felt very isolated and was peaceful. It was nice to be kept awake by birds instead of traffic, and there are many walks and trails with springy grass and spectacular views. Just remarkable.

Beautiful location. Spartan amenities (no coffee) and limited local options for groceries or dining. Generally clean but not suitable to have a baby on the floor.

We booked the Lighthouse Keeper's house just for the two of us during our weekend wedding.

Mary, the property manager and the Lighthouse staff could not have been nicer.

It was magic to return "home" each evening; go for a walk across the headland; enjoy the different views over a pot of tea in the upstairs sitting room (four seasons in as many days) ... and finally the Lighthouse itself when it came on around 10pm. Dawn walks were even better!

While the Lighthouse is a longish drive from some of the peninsula's attractions, it's all very doable in day or half day trips and there is so much to see and do in the immediate area.

This isolated house is an intravert's paradise - wonderful for recharging the batteries.

We have been bitten by the bug and will certainly book another Landmark Trust holiday!

We had a lovely holiday in Loop Head. the accommodation was great - very relaxing and refreshing. The people in the locality are very friendly and helpful. The food in the local restaurant was delicious as was the meat we bought from the butchers in Kilkee. There was plenty to see and do every day. All in all a great holiday

Just back from three lovely nights @ loop head. The cottage is very comfy and snug. Mary had the heating on so it was perfect. My fifth landmark trust stay and not my last. Just perfect. No phone signal, no TV. Just good company, books and a few bottles of fizz!

The place is expensive at over €450 for 2 nights in winter and there was only 4 briquettes and no matches on arrival. there should be enough fuel for the weekend at these prices. The decor is OK only and there was almost no hot water for showers,.
There needs a general upgrade and definitely a second full bathroom and better downstairs beds.
Overall no extra pillows or blankets .
Mary who runs the is fabulous. Tom who lives there could have offered us a lighthouse tour but was out all the time.
I'd be slow to go back without better upgrade and have been to other trust houses we loved.

My wife and I stayed for three nights - and this was our 8th stay in an ILT property and our 3rd stay at a lighthouse. Mary met us upon arrival and showed us everything we needed to know. We had a terrific time. The lighthouse is remote and quiet and the views are awesome. We enjoyed some great walks, and we drove all over the Loop Head peninsula. We also met Tom, the caretaker, and had a great discussion with him. It just so happened the the lighthouse was undergoing an upgrade of its electronics, and we were permitted to go up into it and meet the technician. Very cool experience. Mary also recommended a local restaurant called the Long Dock, located in Carrigaholt (as a funny aside - my hearing is not what it once was and I thought Mary said "Lone Duck" instead of "Long Dock". My wife and I had a few yuks over that). But I must say that the meal at the Long Dock was the best either of us have had in recent memory. Do not miss it. Thanks to Mary, Tom and the folks at ILT for another memorable stay. Can't wait till next year's visit!

I would recommend Loop Head Lighthouse cottage to anyone who wants a unique experience in a spacious house with an old world atmosphere that will make you want to leave your phone or tab switched off.

It’s less than a four hour journey from Dublin to the house. And once you’re in there soaking up the ambience, you won’t want to leave. Wake up to astonishing views across the Shannon estuary to Kerry or back up the Clare coast towards Galway. Spend the day walking, cycling, or driving the scenic coastal roads around Loop Head. And when the sun sets into the Atlantic, watch the beams from the great light sweep out across the ocean, or kick off your shoes in the reading room, and travel back in time100 years where all you can hear is the wind, the waves, and the crackle of the fire. And, who knows, if you listen hard enough, you might just imagine that creaky floorboard upstairs may well be something else. The reading room was just made for telling ghost stories.

Our brilliant house manager, Mary Geaney, ensured our visit went flawlessly. We will certainly return.

The main attraction of staying at Loophead is the location. The views are stunning, the back of the house faces across the Shannon estuary to Kerry. The front faces the lighthouse, but with proper working shutters on the windows, the light at night is not a problem. The cottage is cosy, warm and very comfortable and has all mod cons necessary but with no phone or TV - which is actually one of the benefits - a wonderful place to get away from everything. There are plenty of walks, from which the views of the cliffs are spectacular and the lighthouse is open to the public during the summer months - and is well worth a visit to see the surrounding sea and countryside from the top. Loophead is a wonderful place to relax and unwind.

We spent 5 days in this lovely location. It is very authentic, but modern at the same time. The surrounding is amazing. Step out of the door, take a loop walk around the lighthouse and you will experience nice landscape, views and wildlife. Coming back to the lighthouse you can prepare your meal in an excellent equipped kitchen, relax in front of the fireplace or continue watching out for dolphins in the reading room on the second floor. We will come back one day!

I was celebrating a significant birthday and have always loved Lighthouses so when we arrived at Loop Head on a sunny Friday afternoon it was so lovely to see the Lighthouse gleaming in the sunshine. Kay gave us a lovely tour of the Lighthouse after we had unpacked and it turned out to be just us which meant we had lots of time to take in the views and hear Kay's interesting information. The weather was beautiful that evening and Saturday morning and it was lovely to sit out the front with the birthday cake and our own private view of the lighthouse before the gates opened to the public. Saturday's weather then turned stormy which gave us the perfect excuse to repair to the small room upstairs looking out to sea, where we spent the day reading, chatting, drinking cups of tea (and perhaps a tipple or two) and monitoring the ships going up and down. Sunday was also stormy when we were packing up to leave but we were able to experience all the seasons during our stay, and the lovely smell of new mown grass from Tom's endeaours on Saturday added to all the senses. A really lovely way to spend a Birthday.......unforgettable.

We loved our stay, my 7 year old nephew thought standing where star wars was shot a couple of weeks prior was the best thing ever. The little cafe/art shop down the road was lovely and we felt that the minute we said we were staying in the light house the ladies at the coffee shop, or the guys in Keating's just adopted us and we were treated like locals and that was very enjoyable. We had loads of activities planned so we didn't stay during the day at the house but I would love to come back to just do that

Spectacular location, and house provided comfortable shelter from the gusts of wind and rain. Meeting and greeting went smoothly with some very helpful advice. However would have liked to have a wood store for the log burner, or else details of where we could source logs, kindling etc.

The Loop Head Lightkeeper's house can easily accommodate two couples, making it a relative bargain. It is also a great base of operations for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. The walled compound meant we could let our young daughter run free without fearing for a fall from the unprotected cliff edges nearby. A unique experience.

Just got back from a fantastic 3 days in Loop Head. We had the best weather and blue skies which helped make it an even more wonderful experience. We loved it from the get- go and felt like we were thrown back into another time and atmosphere. Mary met us and was so nice and helpful. Another Mary at the lighthouse was a fountain of information and knowledge .The house was so warm and cosy, the beds were really comfortable. We had great fun with no TV, playing cards and games and looking at the flashing lights from the lighthouse at night. There's a great feeling of community pride everywhere, from the lighthouse to Liz and Ailish in the gallery to the Long Dock restaraunt. Can't wait to visit another Irish Landmark Trust property. We would highly recommend it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our mid-week stay at Loop Head .lt was extra special for one of our party as her grandfather was a principal Light-keeper there in the 1930's.
Decor ,comfort and the warmth of the house when we arrived was very much appreciated. The locals were most welcoming too and we would highly recommend Bernie and Helen Keating's pub and Ailish and Liz from The Henry Blake Craft and Coffee shop.
The kitchen was well stocked with delph, cutlery, pots and Pyrex dishes. The bulbs at the bottom of the stairs need replacing and we thought that a white strip of paint on the top step of the stairs would be a safety feature for outlining the first step when descending . All in all we would recommend the Light-keeper's House .

Loop head is spectacular, even more so when arriving in the middle of a storm, which we did. There is something magical about going through the gates, and driving up to the lighthouse, surrounded by teeming rain and wild weather . There was a lovely cozy lit stove waiting for us in the house, which was very welcoming.
The house is very well kitted out, the kitchen has more than enough pots and pans, the furniture is comfortable, and the beds box sprung. The decor is charming, the traditional colours that were in the house initially are used as accents in the house.
There is a single room with a double bed downstairs, then a sizeable doubke room, and a room with 2 single beds upstairs. The views from upstairs are impressive, but the stairs is not suitable if you have mobility issues.
The is a radio, but no television, making for long lovely evenings relaxing, talking, reading, playing board games. Lovely!
There are some lovely coastal drives, and spectacular walks locally. The Long Dock in Carraigaholt does top notch food.
I highly recommend a stay here, we were sorry we didn't have a longer stay.

We loved The Lightkeepers house and had such a lovely time.
Mary, the lady that looks after it was so very kind and kept us informed when the electricity was off due to the Storm Desmond.
We landed late due to work commitments and this was no bother for her.She had the house so cozy for us.
It was all such a nice experience and I couldn't recommend it higher .

I urge everyone to stay at Loop Head lighthouse !
Mary had the building as warm as toast .the location is unbeatable and the sound of the storm (from the sitting room!) was wonderful !
It leaves you with the feeling of
"Must return". A word of caution ! Bring basic food and fuel supplies !

I spent three glorious nights in the lightkeeper's house in the middle of a stormy November and it was the perfect way to decompress and escape from my busy life. It was great wandering out in the wind and rain and then getting cosy by the fire with the shutters drawn and a gin and tonic in hand. I'll be back!

What a glorious spot.A little off the beaten track, yet near some wonderful spots, like the craft shop and eatery in Kilbaha.
Views from along the cliff trail are amazing. Put your back to the lighthouse at night and watch the beams reach out to sea.

The location was excellent. Lovely house. Great walks. Clare is a great county to visit.
On the downside, I lit the kitchen fire and smoke bellowed into the whole house. Should not be lit. Also our son got bitten several times from sleeping in travel cot. Other than that really enjoyable time.

Our stay in the Loop Head Lightkeeper's House was the highlight of our trip.
It was exactly what we expected and more. It felt like a home that had been lived in for years which had been slowly and carefully updated to provide modern living in a basic setting. Thanks to Mary for the help and assistance.

This was a highlight. So very nice to be away from the crowds. Never have we experienced such kind and generous people as from Kilbaha, especially at the Pub "Keatings" and at the Giftshop. The pub owner sat and visited with us for quite awhile, and his young daughter even came out to visit with our daughter of similar age (even being treated to a candy bar). The gift shop owner, upon hearing that our son had just proposed marriage at the lighthouse, even gave them a gift bag of goodies. These Irish seem to me to be some of the friendliest in the world.
The hike around the lighthouse property was breathtaking. The keepers home, where we stayed, was like being transported back in time, and very comfortable. Thank you Landmark properties for making this possible.

We really enjoyed our stay in the lightkeepers house for two days. The different rooms are nicely furnished. The different pieces of furniture perfectly fit together. We were impressed when Kilian (Mary's son) showed us around. Although the first day was very stormy the house was warm and cosy. At the second evening we all enjoyed sitting near the warm fire in the oven, conversing and reading books. We found a lot of interesting ones in the shelves. What a blessing to have no TV or Internet. Really a time to relax and to wind down. The three of us loved to do the cliff walks around the lighthouse and were happy to see dolphins in the Shannon. A must is the exhibition and the lighthouse itself (5,- € per person). We listened to the last lighthouse keeper and his wife coments in a video when they related how life was with three children more than thirty years ago. We can imagine that this is a wonderful place for kids although its remote. Briquettes for the fire place you can get in Cross and the sea food in the Long Dock Pub in Carrigaholt is excellent.

This is a great place to get away from it all and get back to basics. No TV and no Wi-Fi really add to the experience and the location is simply stunning - surrounded on 3 sides by lofty cliffs with the wild Atlantic thrashing below. The accomadation is a throwback to by gone days but in the nicest possible way and the beds are unbelievebly comfortable. Not to far down the road (3 miles), you have Keatings Pub in Kilbaha where you will find lovely pints of guinness , very good food and plenty of it and lots of people mad to have a chat. My wife, our 14 year old son, the dog and myself simply loved this weekend and Loop Head.

the house is beatiful and very cosy and warm. we really enjoy our stay, the old furniture and books are beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. The house is not in perfect state, it could do with some painting done and with more care in some of the furniture but it is ok.
we walked a lot along the cliffs and we took the boat dolphinwatch. Our dog enjoy a lot too.
in general, we really enjoy and I will come back happily again.

We were met at a time that suited us by the very helpful Mary. The lighthouse keeper Tom was most helpful filling in the history of the Lighthouse. The property was in excellent condition and you couldn't expect a better location. Fantasic for walks in the area. I would suggest sticking to the North side of the head. Overall it was a very relaxing location ideal for all ages young and old.

My 84-year-old mother loves the sea and the wind and has always wanted to stay in a lighthouse so we decided to book this property. Although not actually staying in a lighthouse (Loop Head is a working lighthouse) the keeper's house was the next best thing. Cosy and quaint with no distractions - WIFI or TV - there was much reading and card playing on our two night stay. My husband was delighted with his 15km guided walk of the head with local guide Laura Foley despite the awful weather that day. As it was March the local restaurants were not open and we ate in both nights. The location is fairly remote and the position on the cliffs really makes you feel at the last stop before America. A unique and enjoyable stay.

We arrived at the house after a 4 hour drive. We were met by Mary who looks after the house, she gave us a very good brief on how the fridge, microwave, dishwasher, hob and ovens work. The tour of the house was welcoming and the beds were made, the lovely little fire box made the sitting room all the more homely. The house was warm and ready for us tired weary travelers. The scenery was just out of this world. The fact fact that there was no TV or Wi-Fi on site made it all the more relaxing. There was plenty of reading material and books for all ages that cover history, tours around the local area as well as Co. Clare and novels for those not interested in non fiction. The area is very private and secluded and this adds to the relaxation. Plenty of places to eat with lovely local family run restaurants. The coastal walks are a little dangerous so young children do need to be supervised when venturing outside the enclosed area of the lighthouse. Yes a well worth brake. We felt relaxed and ready for the weeks ahead. Tom the lighthouse keeper passed on his knowledge of lighthouses and how and why they work the way they do. A great time was had by all.

A truly unique place in an oft neglected part of Clare. This is the perfect location to simply be. We walked, we ate and slept like I have not slept in quite some time. The house is perfect, upstairs rooms with amazing views and the kitchen is well equiped for cooking up a storm. We had unseasonably good weather for February but I can only imagine how truly special a location this would be in the height of summer. Worth noting as well to bring bikes if you are interested in the Loop Head cycle route.
I cannot recommend enough and as always well done to the Irish Landmark trust team - 5 star service from start to finish.

This was a return visit for myself but a first for my partner. We stayed over the New Year holiday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Mary, the house manager, was as friendly as ever and made sure the house was lovely and warm for our arrival on a wet and windy afternoon. On New Years Day we walked to the Bridges of Ross, a 12km round trip, but beautiful and well worth it. It was a real pleasure returning, wet and cold, to such a warm and cosy house. The cliffs around the house are breathtaking and have to be seen to be believed. A new addition since my last stay was the dishwasher, which was very welcome! A perfect getaway in a really stunning part of the world.
We will definitely be returning to this very special house and thanks to the landmark trust for keeping it so well.We were both extremely happy and a little sad to have to leave!

The property provided a dramatic scene when I arrived in the dark, the lighthouse guiding us along the dark country road! Every room was kitted out in good taste. The kitchen was a very welcoming space where I spent most of my time drinking tea and enjoying the quality of light that came in through the dual aspect windows. Just a few minutes walk from this calm kitchen were stunning cliffs that rival those at Moher.

A small gripe is that there were some mice in the property. This didn't bother myself or the other guests too much, it is normal in an old house at this time of year. I think if a trap is being set then the trap should be checked regularly, to prevent unpleasant odours and I don't think poison is appropriate to use in a dog friendly house as a dog may also ingest the poison. Luckily the poisoned mouse was spotted (and disposed of) before the dog did.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Loop Head. I am glad you got to experiance the dramatic setting of the lighthouse, it is such a magical place. Regarding your note I have passed this on to the House Manager. Unfortunately at this time of year there is the possibility in older buildings of this occuring however, we do our very best to ensure our guests stay are not effected.

My sister, an american visitor and I spent a truly memorable few days exploring this little corner of Co Clare.
We arrived at the Light House on Fri afternoon in full sunshine and were greeted by Mary Greaney - the caretaker of this ILT property. She is a lovely host and settled us into our temporary home without any fuss. The house is cosy and quirky - furnished in an appropriate manner to suit the house and the needs of visitors. The kitchen is particularly well equipped - unlike most standard self-catering houses. We had 'Indian Summer' weather for our stay - and explored the headland beyond the lighthouse twice - the amazing skies changing from minute to minute - I can only imagine how dramatic it would be to stay there in stormy weather - I hope I can come and stay again! Thank you ILT and Mary!

We stayed at Loop Head for 3 nights in September. It is a magical place, wonderful scenery on the headland and lovely weather. The house was perfect, warm, comfortable, yet restored to its original state. We visited the Bridges of Ross and the Little Ark, both worthwhile. Keatings pub does excellent food. Our visit lived up to expectations, it was a unique experience being beside the light at night, especially the foggy night.

Include a visit to the lighthouse in the cost of ones stay. To pay another 5 Euro is silly since one is staying in the lighthouse keepers house. Otherwise: fantastic!

I thought that the location of the accommodation was beautiful. The house was spotless and there were teabags and some other bits and pieces left in the kitchen, which I thought was a nice touch. The kitchen is very well equipped and maybe you would consider highlighting this to prospective guests, it is a lovely space in which to cook a meal.

The only complaint I would make is that I think that it should be free for guests to tour the lighthouse itself, given that they have already paid for the accommodation.

Everything was perfect, the lighthouse was beautiful and clean, the housekeeper so friendly, the loneliness in the night so great! We loved it, we painted in a nice summer sunny day the lighthouse and the see. Beautiful Ireland, lovely people. Thanks for everything

We spend a wonderful three nights at Loop Head Lighthouse. The location is spectacular. We love staying in Landmark properties and this one did not disappoint. The area is well worth a visit and the lighthouse is such a treasure.

We stayed at Loop Head in early July. Overall it was a very enjoyable weekend with lots to do both in and around Loop Head and also in the East Clare area. The county itself and Loop Head in particular is well marketed to tourists. We had high hopes given its much publicised Irish Times accolade as the best place to holiday in Ireland, and we weren't disappointed.

Mary who looks after the property was lovely to deal with and extremely accommodating.

The house itself was lovely. The rooms upstairs were in great condition. Downstairs it was a little worn looking, in particular the kitchen and bathroom. I realise this is because of its popularity and down to regular wear and tear from users.

What I hadn't expected were the regular tours of the Lighthouse nearby. This meant small groups of tourists at the end of the garden each day. The flipside of this of course was that we too did the Lighthouse tour. This was great and the guides were lovely and very knowledgable about the Lighthouse and the area. Another surprise was the second house next to the Landmark Trust house. The ground floor houses a small exhibition on the history of the Lighthouse (open to the public and part of the Lighthouse tour). The upper floors seem to be in residential use and to our surprise the house was occupied on at least 2 of the 3 nights of our weekend stay. My issue is that neither of these points is mentioned on the Irish Landmark Trust website. The attraction for me - and I think others - of staying in one of the Landmark Trust properties, especially one of their lighthouses which are typically in remote locations, is the "getting away from it all" aspect. The occupants of the neighbouring house and the tourists, took away from the feeling of privacy and seclusion we were looking for. I never felt that the property was fully "ours" for the weekend.

Thank you Joan for your lovely review of Loophead Lightkeeper's House. We are delighted that you had a lovely time in the Loophead area. It is a beautiful part of the country. In relation to your note about the tours to the lighthouse close to the Lightkeeper's House we have taken on board that a note should be made of this on the website. Whilst the confirmation sent to our guests does state that the Lightkeeper’s House is on a working lighthouse station, thus having a lightkeeper in resisdence, I can see that making a note of the tours to the station during the summer months would be benefical to guests renting this property.

We had a wonderful stay at the Loop Head Lighthouse Keeper's House in County Clare. It was a unique opportunity to experience the peace and grandeur of the rugged West Coast. The Lighthouse Keeper's House was quaint and comfortable and located 3 km from the nearest town, so we really felt and appreciated the isolation and beauty of the area. We visited local sights like the Bridge of Ross and drove further up the coast for a day at the Cliffs of Moher.

Tom, the Lighthouse Keeper, was very helpful as was the local Manager, Mary, who came to greet us on our arrival and was available for any questions.

I will definitely visit another Irish Landmark Trust property during future visits and will also look for this type of opportunity when visiting other countries.

We loved our stay at Loop Head, enjoying the scenery, cycling through the byways, being serenaded by the larks. However we did have a some issues with the facilities as follows:
1. There was a bad smell from the shower drain, which pervaded the bathroom!
2. We had to sit sideways at the kitchen table, as we couldn't fit our legs under the table, this was quite uncomfortable.
3. The door of the stove did not close properly, resulting in the fire burning out too quickly, we rectified this
4. Probably our biggest issue was that the bed in the main bedroom was too small for a couple, especially when one is 6'2. We had to resort to the two small single beds.
5. The chairs in the sitting room were uncomfortable and badly out of shape.

Overall we really admire the excellent work of the Landmark Trust, it's a pity that the fitting out of this property does not match the high standard of their restoration work.

Overall a really lovely stay - house was great. Location fantastic.

One thing that would be a good addition are some chairs or picnic tables around the back of the house to enjoy the view as there are not many places within the house to sit and look at the sea.

Tom the lighthouse attendant was great to meet!

The cottage is very well restored and maintained.
The peat fire provides a very cosy atmosphere.
The geology and bird life of the cliffs are spectacular and exceptional. The Cliffs of Moher, which we visited later, suffer by comparison. A little more information about local bird, animal and plant life would be helpful.
The guillemots, fulmars and other sea birds, especially on the white cliff 1km to the East, we're an unforgettable experience.
Overall our stay at Loop Head was the highlight of a two week trip to Ireland.
Many Thanks

Had a lovely weekend here with kids, nice spacious property in a cool location. Good room outside for kids to roam and play. Easy and beautiful drives around the area, unspoilt and not overly touristy. Do the coastal drive into Kilkee direction. House is spotless, and has all you need. Some good restaurants a short drive away, the Long Dock in Carrigaholt is lovely, and Keatings down the road in Kilbaha is good for a nice evening drink over looking the water.. on a fine day at least. Also has a nice well maintained kids playground right beside it.
I would agree with others that Landmark Trust should add free entry to the actual lighthouse tour.. it's not expensive, (€12 for family) but you'd kind of expect it to be included in the rental... most people stay places like this as they are interested in the history of the property.

As usual the property was unique and very well presented (loop Head lighthouse), As usual (unfortunately) the arrangements surrounding the stay are a bit out of sync with the times; property description out of date, check in at 5p.m. /check out at 10 a.m. awkward times and poor value in comparison to hotel or apartment stay, direction that guests would bring all their rubbish including recycling with them after their stay is unrealistic and unhygenic (particularly with a car full of kids with no space for bin bags and no idea where the nearest bottle bank or recycling centre is to such a remote location). It would also have been nice to have an arrangement with Clare County Council to include a tour of the adjoining lighthouse, you don't expect to have to pay for this on top of the hundreds spent on accommodation. I have stayed in a few different Landmark Trust properties to date and want to support the cause which I think is great; however I would think twice about recommending them to others for the above reasons.

we last stayed in this property 11 years ago so it was lovely to come back again, the property was lovely and warm and comfortable and excellent location so nice being right beside a working lighthouse. This was our second stay in an Irish landmark trust property and think it is great being able to stay in historic properties that would otherwise be in derelict conditions and I love the old fashioned charm of them and loop head was delightful. The only negative comment I would have is that I feel this property needs a little work inside there is a kitchen draw that is broke and hard to pull out and quite dangerous this was like this when we visited 11 years ago also the kitchen utensils need replacing very bad saucepans etc not something would have in your own house and feel a certain quality should be provided the bathroom also dose not suit the house more like a hostel think that could be improved.(I am not a fussy person but feel a certain standard should be provided) my mother who worked as a care taker for the landmark trust in England also agreed on this. but enough of the negative we enjoyed our 3 nights and I would also like to say how very nice Tom the lighthouse keeper is very.

I, my husband and three children stayed at Loophead Lighthouse for 2 nights. The welcoming sight of the house fully lit at night-time was fantastic. The house was very warm, spotlessly clean and by not modernising the accommodation, added to the whole experience. Saturday was spent exploring the surrounding countryside and evenings were spent playing boardgames, reading and having quality family time. Not having a TV was an added bonus. Being February we could not visit the lighthouse itself which was a pity. We would definitely recommend this to other families especially those with children aged 7+

Loopead is in a truly stunning and dramatic location. Walks around the Peninsula, views out to sea were all magic.

The only negative was the bathroom facilities. There is no mains water. The single shower (no bath) was not good as there was a low water pressure and there was a dangerously slippy floor. An electric shower with pump would be preferable.

But my abiding memory is the dramatic landscape, seascape, skyscape, and the silence. Its another world over there - and a very pleasant one.

Thank goodness for ILT - can't wait to visit another property.

We stayed in the Lightkeepers cottage for 5 nights over Christmas. We hoped for bad weather and we certainly got that. The howling wind and lashing rain outside, made it all the more cosy inside. The property really provides everything to make your stay very comfortable. The entire place was spotless clean. There are some lovely walks around the cliffs (weather permitting). The views around the cliffs are just gorgeous and a photographers dream!

Myself and my husband loved the house, each room full of character, everything we needed was supplied. We really enjoyed the comfort of the stove in the sitting room and dipping into the eclectic supply of reading material all over the house. I hadn't realised there would be so much room in the house, 2 doubles and a twin. Friends stayed one night and loved it too. Mile buíochas, Mary, you were so accommodating re getting and returning the key, and made it clear that you were available anytime to help out if we had a query. We enjoyed exploring the Bridges of Ross and Kilbaha nearby and loved our meal in the Long Dock in Carrigaholt, but the best thing was waking up and going to sleep in such close proximity to Loop Head lighthouse itself. Only a pity we didn't have longer than 2 nights. Bhí sé go hálainn.
