This enchanting property accommodates two people in great comfort with wonderful underfloor heating throughout. Among its interesting features is an octagonal garden room from which the two main rooms, bedroom and sitting room, lead; and the kitchen and bathroom are to the rear.

  • Sleeps 2 people. Double Room.
  • Welcomes 1 pet.

We had a lovely short stay in Salterbridge. House was warm and spotlessly clean.
Maro was very helpful.
West Waterford is an excellent base for visiting Lismore, Youghal and Dungarvan. Plus plenty of walking opportunities in Glenshelane Woods and Knockmealdowns.

We had a lovely short stay in Salterbridge Gate Lodge. Michelle was waiting for us when we arrived and was extremely helpful. She had lots of recommendations for things to do and restaurants in the locality. The lodge is so peaceful and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to eat in. We would highly recommend Salterbridge and will be back ourselves. There is still so much to see and do in this area.

A beautifully restored building. It has all the comforts of home without all the day to day distractions. Load of choices on the surrounding areas to go and eat or grab shopping to use the fully equipped kitchen.
Maro was a wonderful host and fill of information.
We loved the wood burning stove and the heated floors are a wonderful addition.

Salterbridge Lodge more than lived up to our expectations. It was really charming and more light filled than indicated in the photos. The bathroom was lovely which we were not sure about in advance as there were no photos of it on the website. The stove was easy to use and clean. We brought our own wood. The bed while only a double was very comfortable. While you could hear passing traffic it did not impact our stay. It was a wonderful base from which to explore Dungarvan, Cappoquin and Lismore. We would highly recommend staying here.

Maro was very welcoming and showed us how everything worked. She also gave us great recommendations of where to eat and visit during our stay.

Thank you for your lovely review, this is such a beautiful Gatelodge. I read your private comment about condensation in the mornings and you did the best thing for this lodge and opened the windows. Old properties restored with traditional materials need lots of fresh air to reduce the chance of dampness internally and also improves the heating within the building.

The house was beautiful. It was very well equipped. It had everything we needed. Maro, the house manager was very knowledgeable about the area. She was very helpful. The only negative was if you wanted to eat out in the evening you had to go to Dungarvan as there was nothing open in Cappoquin or Lismore when we were there.

A perfect place for a stay in Waterford. Near Lismore, Ardmore, Dungarvan with loads of walks within a short drive. The accommodation is perfect for 2 people with a stove in place to have a fire in the evenings. There was a great book on walks in Waterford which had about 40 walks from coastal to woodlands. Maro was great with tips on walks (the Tower walk was my favourite) and restaurants and checking in on us during our stay to see everything was okay. Totally recommend a stay in Salterbridge.

Great house, had everything anyone would need for a comfortable stay.
Whilst it was mentioned in the information advertising the property, it is located beside the road which is very noisy and busy. Fully appreciate, being a gate lodge, a given, that it will be located near a road.
However, just a suggestion, perhaps some layered planting inside the railings between the property and the road would soften the noise.
Host who greeted us was most pleasant and made us feel very welcome. THank you

I stayed for 3 nights with my dog in June. It was very comfortable and a great location. We could walk into the village easily and were only a short drive from lismore and dungarven. We otherwise found the property just delightful. We've stayed in English National Trust cottages for decades and this one was very good: We did not miss TV or internet [as is found in some NT cottages] and liked the interaction with the house manager, something the NT does not do. [There's a contact person for problems but one does not routinely meet that person.]
The location was quite rural but the local town of Cappoquin had a delightful local bakery/cafe Barron's and fish & chips place.
We did not cook in the lodge but it looked well equipped.
It was a good place to explore such sites as Cashel and Waterford.
We were forewarned but both Apple maps and Google maps didn't work and dropped us into the boonies; we navigated the single lane, unmarked roads with help from our house manager to finally arrive. [Had we not driven in England for years, we might've gotten into some real trouble.] We must complement her both for being patient with our delayed and impaired navigation and giving history of the property plus advice for local eateries.
When we return to visit other areas of Ireland, we'll try to do so staying in your properties.

Another wonderful Landmark Trust property beautifully restored, bright and spacious and presented in perfect condition.
A perfect base to explore Waterford where there's so much to see and do and then enjoy relaxing in comfort back at base.

We stayed in Salterbridge Gate Lodge during a spell of lovely weather in early August. Arrival was made so easy with information from Maro re. alternative route since main road from Lismore to Cappoquin is currently closed. Lodge was beautiful, comfortable and cool and very well equipped. Maro is a great host with advice on local restaurants etc. Because weather was so warm we visited a few beaches in the vicininty, Clonea Stand near Dungarvan and Ardmore. Lismore and Dungarvan lovely towns and the Waterford Greenway very close if you enjoy a peaceful cycle.
This was our second ILT property to visit (also Raliway Cottage in Donegal) - equally impressed with both.
Thank you ILT - we will be on the look out for another gem next year.

Loved my stay at Salterbridge Gatelodge. Ideal location within walking distance of Cappoquin. The lodge is on the main road between Cappoquin and Lismore but this was closed for roadworks during my stay which meant it was very quiet. I stayed during “the heatwave” in August 2022 and the thick walls and stone floors in the hall and kitchen meant it always felt lovely and cool indoors. Spotlessly clean. The house is really well equipped and had everything I needed. Great communication in advance from Maro who was really helpful with suggestions on where to eat locally. There’s loads to do in and around Cappoquin and Lismore. Would highly recommend Salterbridge!

Our 10 day stay at this exceptional Gatelodge was an utter delight. We enjoy spending time in our holiday accommodation as we really like to self-cater; this house was a joy in which to prepare Breakfast & Dinner and we had the wherewithal to get excellent provisions in Cappoquin & Dungarvan. From the moment of our arrival, the Gatelodge was so welcoming and light-filled. As ever with Irish Landmark Trust, great care has been taken with the restoration of the building. Lovely features like this small vestibule / hall are so well-done. The kitchen is a most pleasant space, we-equipped for all our food preparation requirements. The bedroom is most comfortable with plenty of space. We loved being in the countryside, yet close to lovely Cappoquin (outstanding Barrons Bakery for Coffee / Lunch; amazing Market House Craftworks) with the Cappoquin House & Gardens a must. We loved Lismore Castle Gardens . Youghal & Ardmore were well within reach too. I was enthralled by the hidden gem in Tramore that is the Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens (coffee at the Coastguard Cultural Centr.e...wow! that view!;then, lunch at the sublime "The Beach House" ) At the old Workhouse, Kilmacthomas, The Coach House Coffee was a fine lunch stop also. The House Manager, Maro Kingston, is a truly delightful person; I have remarked before, of Irish Landmark Trust, that they are blessed with the fine troupe of people they have as their House Managers. Maro is no exception. Thank you Maro, you had the place just lovely for us

Macro was the best manager we’ve had in our multiple stays at Landmark Trust properties. She waited to meet us at the gatehouse even though we were delayed, walked us through the operating systems, and regularly checked on us during our stay. In short, she was more responsive than other normally responsive managers we’ve encountered. We appreciated her local recommendations and the flowers she provided for my wife’s birthday. All in all, an A+ experience.

Clean, characterful and well prepared (fire set, flowers in vases) by Maro. A lovely distinctive and private space.
No wifi - a warning, if that matters. I embraced that aspect.
The main road is close, obviously (as a gate lodge) and might be very busy in summer although this also means it's excellently positioned for going and returning places.

Beautifully restored classical gate lodge, just a short walk from Cappoquin and a ten minute drive from Lismore. A 15 minute drive in the other direction gets you to Dungarvan with its many restaurants and of course the Deise Greenway. Take the small road beside the lodge and you are soon in the stunning Knockmealdown mountains.
With a cosy vibe, a stove in the living room, a comfortable bed in the spacious bedroom, and a well equipped kitchen if you need it, this little house is a real home from home.
Managed by the pleasant and efficient Maro who is a mine of information on the area, this is one of the best hideaway retreats in the South East.

Beautiful little gate lodge with a quirky design. Comfortable for a couple and nicely equipped kitchen and great wood stove. Too close to the road which is busy. Spoils sitting in the garden.
What an area. We canoed on the river, visited gardens and cycled the Waterford Greenway. Great buzz in the town of Dungarvan. On the last day we walked and swam around Ardmore.

Guides for walks & suggested garden visits ( of which there are many) are provided and a friendly house manager is on hand for further assistance. To have the opportunity to stay in a property such as this is a big bonus.

The property is wonderfully restored. The underfloor heating made for a delightful level of warmth underfoot, and a great crawling surface for our infant. The property manager Maro made it easy to check in, out and was very responsive to queries and requests. It's very convenient for Cappoquin. Heartily recommend

We really had a beautiful break in a beautiful setting. We were treated very well from the Irish Landmark Trust in their head offices for rearranging our break and we were very well looked after by Maro who ensured that the Gatelodge was in perfect order for us on arrival and also checked in with us during our stay to ensure all was Ok.
It is a beautiful place to stay in with plenty of places of interest to visit and see.
I would wholeheartly recommend staying in this premises, it was masterfully restored and it is a credit to the crew who restored it.

As always we really enjoyed our stay in Salterbridge. We loved the new furniture which was very comfortable. We were sorry to miss seeing Maro in person but, as we knew, she was only a phone call away. My husband and I love the area of west Waterford so it’s always a pleasure to stay there.

This was our second visit to Salterbridge Lodge ( the last time was in winter), this cosy, ‘ bijou’ house.

The setting is very appealing, situated in a lush Blackwater valley, close to walks, Cappoquin, Lismore and Waterford gardens.

The house is suited to holiday catering + the sittIngroom restful for reading etc.

The lodge itself is very nice. It’s bigger than you’d think but it was a tight squeeze to get 2 adults and two cots into the bedroom. The octagonal entrance hall is pretty big and is a handy place to store items. Kitchen is a decent size and has the essentials. It is an old lodge so it is a bit damp and we were there when it was about 23 degrees every day. Just be aware if you have any issues in that regard. It’s about a 2 min drive from Cappoquin and 5 from Lismore. One thing to note is that the lodge is located just off the main road so there is some traffic noise. However, a short walk up the lane and you could be anywhere as the traffic noise disappears. There is no TV and no WiFi just in case these things are game changers for you.

Extremely comfortable house, warm and cosy. As is usual for Irish Landmark Trust, the furnishings and style are old-world style, which is exactly how we like it. Our host was very nice, warm and welcoming and available by mobile if we had any questions during our stay. She had basic provisions (tea, coffee, sugar and milk) available for us on our arrival, and the house is only a short distance by car to the nearest town for other provisions.
One thing that is important to comment on is that the house is located on an extremely busy road, both day and night (with trucks) ... they go at high speed. The traffic can be heard from quite a ways away as it approaches and leaves the area of the house, due to the rural setting ... the noise was constant and kept me awake at night and woke me early.
The house has two internal steps down into the kitchen level so might not be suitable for any person with a mobility aid or an elderly person.
Other than that, the house is great and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Salterbridge Gatelodge is just adorable and immaculately maintained by the lovely Maro. She was so welcoming and helpful, ready with all the advice on the best places to eat and all the things to see. This little gate lodge is perfect for a quiet weekend away. Located in a beautiful region very close to Cappoquin and Lismore it is a great starting point to explore the area. The house itself was cozy, everything in it was perfect, clean and just right for a couple (also dog friendly which was an added bonus). Our host was lovely and very welcoming. It’s a short drive to Lismore / Dungarvan or a short walk to Cappoquin. I would highly recommend this lodge. There are plenty of places to walk and relax in the area. Well done on the restoration of the gate lodge !!

This was our third stay in Salterbridge Gatelodge, we love the area and the place. The house is very comfortable with good facilities. However, there are two overage armchairs in the sitting room which need to be upholstered in order to make them any way usable. We had some unavoidable changes with arrival and departure times. There were very graciously accommodated by Maro, the excellent House Manager. We would like to return.

Its the first time I rented from landmark trust but has made me look for others. I visited the Goggin thatched house in Limerick during heritage week sometime ago and wonder why it is not yet ready to rent? I think more needed in the Repubic of Ireland.

We arrived on Friday evening to a warm welcome from Maro and an even warmer house with a lovely fire in the stove. She was very helpful with our plans for the weekend. The house is a treasure - sensitively restored but extremely comfortable nonetheless. I particularly loved the limestone floor in the hallway. The house is warm and very comfortable. We loved it. The nearby town, Cappoquin, is lovely and Lismore castle just 6km up the road is breathtaking. Excellent base to do the Waterford Greenway from which was our plan. No TV or WiFi which was ideal for a real getaway!

We used this as a base for attending the Wexford Opera Festival (a little bit of a journey!) but it was good to come back to a warm, cosy, comfortable base in the evenings. On the "days off" we explored the coast, towns and hills of Co. Waterford - a delightful part of Ireland, little know by us, helped by glorious October weather.

Absolutely charming country cottage for a short break for two. Beautifully finished and curated. Maro couldn't have been nicer and more helpful. The area is underrated from a tourism perspective - there is a lot to see nearby, from wild mountains, lovely estate gardens and quaint pubs, to all the seaside exploits which are nearby. We will definitely come back. It helped that the weather was incredible - but I'd be wiling to come back in winter also!

Thank you for letting us know how your recent stay at Salterbridge Gatelodge went. We very much agree, the area is very underrated even though there is so much to do. From walking, cycling, fishing, visiting Lismore Castle Gardens, etc, there is something for everyone in and around Cappoquin. Maro is really a treasure and Irish Landmark Trust are so very fortunate to have her on board and looking after Salterbridge Gatelodge so well. We hope to welcome you again.

Beautifully renovated gate house! Loved the historic aspect, the fireplace provided a nice cozy feel. Wish we could have seen/learned more about the history of the main house and estate. Lismore castle is a must! Wonderful walking trails nearby are so nice.

Fantastic little gem to stay in for a special occassion. The house is very quirky and is in perfect condition. Everything works properly across the whole house which is a bonus in self catering houses. Spotlessly clean. Maro the house manager was very welcoming and accomodating from first contact to wishing us a safe onward journey. The area is very pleasant to stay visitng Lismore Castle, the towers and some nice short walks. A very friendly area. Bar food in Foley's in Lismore is a good standard. Richmond House for a meal was disappointing as it is actually quite dated and tired when seen in person. The food is not anything special for the price.
Overall our experience with Irish Landmark trust has us looking forward to another adventure with them and we have already recommended Salterbridge and the Irish Landmark Trust to friends

This was our first stay in an Irish Landmark Trust property, so I didn't know exactly what to expect. I was not prepared for the level of comfort (even luxury) that the Gate Lodge provided. Both the kitchen and the bathroom were well-appointed, certainly suitable for a much longer stay than the two days we had allocated. The sitting room was very cozy (the presence of a turf-burning stove and absence of a television adding to this) and the bedroom was very comfortable. I wish that we had had a chance to sit outside (rain!) to test how close the N-72 actually felt. There was a lot to do in the area, so we didn't feel deprived of the experience. Maro was an excellent host, representing the Trust and Irish hospitality very well. The experience has encouraged me to investigate other ILT properties for a more extended stay.

The lodge is lovely and up to the usual high standards of the ILT. Cappaquin is a good location. We cycled the Waterford Greenway and back to our cosy cottage for big bath and relax. The lodge is well kitted out even with hit water bottles. A great get away to re charge the batteries

The Gatelodge is a beautiful property, very clean and comfortable with a cosy fire.
It's in a great location for exploring the West of Waterford County.
There are many great walks easily accessible from the lodge with a variety of routes suitable for all abilities.
Maro, who manages the property was very welcoming and gave us an interesting overview of the local area and history.

We were met by a warm and welcoming Maro upon our arrival at Salterbridge Gatelodge. Everything was well equipped and impeccable; we felt quite at home during our stay. Even the fire (stove) was set for us in case the evenings turned cool. The location along the beautiful Blackwater valley, and proximity to the lovely gardens of Lismore Castle and Cappoquin House, meant that there was no shortage of places to visit. Thank you for a lovely break.

I had always thought it might be nice to live in a gate lodge. I never did, but for my birthday we booked a four night stay at Salterbridge Gate Lodge from Irish Landmark Trust. The booking system is easy and the information provided is well presented and very useful. The property is an excellent example of the complete renovation and reconstruction of an old abandoned building. It is decorated and furnished in a sympathetic style and is very comfortable for two people. The house manager is very friendly and helpful. The facilities are extremely good, and it is truly a real treat to stay somewhere without television, telephone and internet. The radio and the supply of interesting books, together with your own favourite holiday reads, make it all perfectly relaxing.

While it is not exactly cheap, for the money you do get a very comfortable home for two, with a bedroom, garden room, sitting room and large well equipped kitchen. There is also a bathroom with bath/shower. There is a table and two chairs outside on the lawn. This is much more than you can ever get in a four or five star hotel for the same price. As I enjoy cooking, the freedom to plan and prepare our own meals was a bonus! Barron's bakery and SuperValu supermarket are a ten minute walk along the footpath on the main road into Cappoquin. As such, it represents good value and all in all, a we had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Salterbridge Lodge is a fabulous place to stay and use as a "base camp" to explore the south of Ireland. We made day trips to the Copper Coast and Waterford, the Beara Penninsula and a loop into the interior counties from there. It sits near good routes to all. Moreover, it's a beautiful and comfortable restoration. Mora was attentive to our requests and needs. I would highly recommend staying at Salterbridge - I intend to on my next trip to Ireland.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know how your recent stay at an Irish Landmark Trust property was. We are delighted to hear you had a nice time. With regard to your comment about expense I wanted to take a moment to explain that Irish Landmark is a non-profit organisation. We try to find interesting and unusual properties that are in need of conservation, and give them new life as self-catering accommodation for people to stay in. As an educational charity, our primary aim is to conserve and sustain iconic buildings. Irish Landmark always respects the history and architectural integrity of the structures we conserve, but we also ensure they have all the contemporary comforts you want in a holiday home. This does mean that our rental prices can be sometimes little higher than other self-catering properties but this is a result of the conservation and maintenance costs of these properties to keep them operational for the public to stay in. If anyone would like to see examples of some before and after photos please do take a moment to check out Irish Landmark's social media pages. A stay in an Irish Landmark property helps us to continue to save more of Ireland's built heritage.

A beautiful quaint cosy lodge in a good location.

TENTH stay in an ILT property. Perfect for the two of us to see in the new year as it was the closest to home that we had not been in and the cosiest. (all the rest are up north! we will get there!) Beautiful area with plenty to see. Highly recommended, especially in summer if you have never been in the area. Visitor book comments always worth looking at, and excellent welcome.

In common with all Landmark Trust properties, Salterbridge Gatelodge is very well appointed with furnishings for the most part appropriate to the period and an attractive well appointed kitchen with everything one would need for a relatively short stay. (As there is no washing machine/dryer it would not work so well for longer stays).
It is comfortable and warm with the benefit of underfloor heating and a wood stove in the living room. We did not miss internet or tv!
The only downside is the openness of the surroundings which provide little privacy for sitting out of doors. It is also quite noisy with the busy N72 nearby. On the other hand the location is very convenient - very close to the attractive little town of Cappoquin which has a marvellous bakery cum cafe and the beautiful Cappoquin House and Gardens. There are also a number of other lovely houses and gardens within a very short drive including Salterbridge House itself which is a lovely welcoming place to visit if you happen to be lucky enough to be resident when the house is open as we were. There are many other lovely places to visit including the Vee in the Knockmealdowns, and a lovely river walk not far from the town.

The gate lodge was a fantastic place to stay with the local village a nice stroll away the local store was handy for provisions and the local chippy was pretty good too. We also headed into Lismore with its beautiful castle and lovely people and were introduced to the breakfast blaa highly recommended. The lodge itself has been fantastically restored beautiful surroundings you couldn't want for more. I would certainly stay at the Salterbridge gate lodge again and would recommend it to anyone who would like to escape to a little bit of heaven for a while.

I was lucky to be given this weekend as a prize from the Landmarkers' Draw, for which I am extremely grateful. Thank you again to the ILT. Maro gave us an excellent welcome and we had a really lovely time there.

Just on the maintenance front, there is damp (very wet when shutters were first opened) coming down from the roof behind two of the shutters in the living room.

We had a lovely but very wet few days in Salterbridge Lodge. Maro attended to our needs very well so we were able to have the stove lit in the evenings! We particularly enjoyed our visit to Salterbridge House where we met the owner Philip who gave us a most interesting tour of the house and gardens. Our only complaint is the quality of the period furniture in the living room. It is quite uncomfortable to sit on and we thought could be reupholstered.

We enjoyed our stay but feel it was very expensive, and requiring a three night stay makes it even more so, this is why we would not recommend it to others.

Maro was very pleasant and helpful.

The area is fantastic for touring and hiking.

Salterbridge Gatelodge is well positioned for touring around the Waterford/Tipperary beauty spots. On this occasion we spent more time than usual in the cottage since the rain was incessant for over 48 hours. With the warmth of the fire and underfloor heating, thanks also to the consideration of the house manager we were very comfortable there and had a good time with our books!

We had the most wonderful stay at the lodge. We received a lovely welcome by Maro who had the fire lit for us when we arrived. The lodge itself is beautiful and very comfortable and in a great location for country walks. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at the charming Salterbridge Lodge for St Patrick's weekend. It's a really pretty, atmospheric place with lots of natural light and in a good location for Cappoquin/Armore/Lismore/Youghal/Dungarvan excursions and with nearby walks all very accessible. We were lucky and it was sunny so we were mostly out and about returning late afternoon for a lazy read in the sunny sitting room. The only downside really was the noisy main road but that was during the daytime and didn't disrupt sleep.

Salterbridge is a lovely property ideally located to explore Tipperary, Waterford and the environs. The property in itself is in need of a touch up as the damp / peeling paint are something of a turn-off and not quite up to the usual standard of the Landmark properties we have stayed in. That said it is clearly a function of the structure itself and not a reflection of the comfort etc. It's really more a question of presentation and aesthetics.

Wonderful property, well presented. Lovely welcome from Maro, everything was clearly laid out and anything I need to know about the property and area tended to. Only item that I would see improvements on would be seating, whilst the sitting room is cosy a two seater sofa would be lovely or the queen Ann with a few cushions.

We really enjoyed our stay in Salterbridge Lodge.
It is a perfect location for 2 people to explore the Blackwater valley, Lismore, Cappoquin and the local walks.

Later in the season, the gardens in the area would be a great attraction, and for people who are not interested in travelling distances are within very easy reach.

For eating out and shopping both towns mentioned above offer excellent choices.

Initially, the traffic noise was a little disturbing, but we soon hardly noticed it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay in Salterbridge Lodge. It was really comfortable and we enjoyed our evenings reading beside the stove. The furnishings made us feel we were living back in the Victorian era but the traffic on the road outside brought us back to the 21st century with a bang! That was the only downside. It was so noisy with constant traffic racing by until late into the night. I know you can't do anything about the location and presumably you are not allowed instal double-glazed windows. But, traffic apart it was perfect and Maro was so friendly and helpful. Hold on to her if you can; she's a treasure.

We really enjoyed staying in the lodge. Easy walk to town and a very short drive to beautiful Lismore. Could easy stayed curled up there with the nice features. Plenty of space with excellent facilities for self-catering. We bypassed the timer on the hot water. If we had longer we would have tried fishing. The bed is quite firm.

We had a really nice stay at Salterbridge Lodge over the weekend. Maro, the housekeeper, was very friendly and welcoming. The house is enchanting and kept in pretty good condition. The only problem we encountered was with the tap water: it runs with a suspicious brownie colour, so we ended up using bottled water for cooking and brushing our teeth, just to be on the safe side.
The weather was very kind to us, and we could enjoy breakfast outdoors and stargazing in the evening time. The proximity to Cappoquin village is a plus, and the traffic was not as big an issue as I first thought it would. The property is very well located for small excursions to the surrounding villages with plenty local heritage: Mt Melleray Monastery, Lismore castle, Cappoquin House, Dromona House, Tourin House... and, of course, Salterbridge House.

This was our first visit to an Irish Landmark Trust property and it was a delightful experience. The Lodge is a very charming building and surprisingly light and spacious inside. It's well equipped, comfortable and homely with a lot of thought put into providing useful information so you can make the best of your stay. The warm welcome and lovely area around made it a perfect break, our only regret being that it wasn't longer.

The lodge has been beautifully restored and is very cosy and equipped to a high standard. The housekeeper Maro was ever so helpful in suggesting options for dining, walking etc. There are many pleasant walks in the immediate surrounding of the lodge and the village of Cappoquin is but a short distance away and has all the supplies that are needed for those who wish to use the well equipped kitchen of the lodge.
We had a lovely few days with our daughter and would highly recommend the place.

I thought we wouldn't be able to survive without wifi but it was so nice being there, that we didn't miss it at all! I would highly recommend staying at the Gate Lodge. It was a chance to step back in time and what a wonderful initiative of the Landmark trust in saving these historic buildings.

We were warmly welcomed by Maro, who gave us lots of excellent tips on local attractions and restaurants. She goes out of her way to ensure that guests have a memorable stay. The lodge is spotlessly clean, very cosy, and very well equipped with cooking utensils, hairdryer, linens, etc. Within a short drive of the lodge are wonderful riverside walks, Lismore Castle and gardens, and lots of other attractions. Lismore town is a lovely spot for a wander around and we highly recommend The Summerhouse for breakfast / lunch / afternoon tea, and Foley's on The Mall for a drink. It's also worth the drive to Dungarvan to eat at The Tannery. Everyone we met was so friendly. We really enjoyed our stay!

We had a most comfortable stay in Salterbridge Lodge. It is an ideal location to tour West Waterford with great restaurants nearby, such as The Tannery in Dungarvan and Ahearne's in Youghal, which we would thoroughly recommend. Also Barron's in Cappoquin has the best bread and barm brack - also good for snacks. There are many interesting old houses to visit in the area - we went to Dromana and really enjoyed the personal tour of the house by the owner - 800 years of history on the doorstep, not to mention the fantastic setting overlooking the Blackwater river. St. Mary's Collegiate Church in Youghal was the most interesting church we have seen in Ireland - well worth a visit, not forgetting the link with Sir Walter Raleigh. The lady who looks after the Lodge, Maro, is very friendly and full of information on places to visit and where to eat.

The property was beautiful and Maro the perfect ILT representative, very helpful throughout and also had the property very well cleaned and maintained.

There was, however, one issue with the cost. We were charged €319 for a two night stay including (Friday) but we noticed that the ILT property booklet clearly stated that the two night rate (including weekend dates) was only €268.00. The standard two night rate was €222.00.

We were a bit disappointed to see that we were charged €51.00 above the stated rate.

All good . Lovely welcome and delightful house and location. A very offputting factor however was the fact that dogs are welcomed to stay in the house. This was overlooked as it was a last minute booking to use a voucher and we had little choice. The house was really well cleaned but it is difficult to remove all trace of doggy guests.

We spent a lovely weekend in Salterbridge Lodge in December. The accommodation is very warm and comfortable and spotlessly clean. Maro gave us a very warm welcome. The lodge is very well situated - within walking distance of Cappoquin and a short drive from beautiful Lismore. There is so much to see and do in this region that we will definitely return. We were very impressed with the Summerhouse Cafe in Lismore where we had a hearty brunch and with Foley's pub in Lismore where the local barman gave us a wealth of historical information on the region. We were somewhat underwhelmed with Barron's Bakery in Cappoquin, although it was somewhere for us to shelter during a rain shower. This was our first Landmark Trust property and we will most definitely recommend the properties and hope to book another holiday with the Trust in the near future.

The lodge is a delightfully restored building offering the experience of what it might have been like in its original state, though I guess even better now. Perfect for two people having only the one bedroom. A very helpful Manager greeted us with a warm welcome and a comforting fire already glowing when we arrived on a wet Friday afternoon. We would highly recommend a visit to any of the Irish Landmark Trust restored buildings as a way of seeing these lovely buildings in their best state.

Lovely place to stay, easy to find. The noise from the main road didn't bother us.
Stove added a nice touch as the weather was extremely bad the first night.
Personally would have liked a tv and some milk in the fridge on arrival.
Would like to have been able to pay the breakage deposit on arrival and not in the full rental payment weeks in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay in your holiday home at Salterbridge. I am glad to hear that you had a nice stay and enjoyed the wood burning stove. As a rule Irish Landmark properties do not have telephones, televisions or WiFi and depending on the property some may not have washing machines, dishwashers, or dryers, etc. We would always advise potential renters to check the website for facilites available at the property they are interested in renting or to contact the bookings office. Thank you again for your support to maintain these historic and unique properties by renting a holiday home at Irish Landmark Trust.

We stayed here for two nights at the end of September. It was my fourth stay in the Gate lodge since 2007 and as before, it was a lovely and relaxing stay. The house is kept absolutely spotless by the house manager Maro.
Maro is a very welcoming lady and extremely accommodating. She met us at the house with a warm welcome. The house is really lovely, very charming and has everything you would need. One small criticism is the sofa in the sitting room, a more comfortable sofa would be fantastic. The two seater there at the moment wasn't really big enough or comfortable, however the rest of the house is so lovely and well maintained that this is a relatively small matter and certainly not the fault of Maro. We toured the "Vee" a lovely scenic drive nearby and went to Cahir and Swiss cottage which was very interesting. One of my favorite properties.

Salterbridge Gate Lodge is an ideal location to explore Waterford County, We enjoy walking and there is such a variety of walks within easy reach- heritage trails from Cappoquin, garden walks, cliff and coastal walks and those in the Comeragh Mountains. Excellent local produce-beef, bread, apples etc. A well thought out and worthwhile renovation.

Delightful location for short or long break, situated in area of country not explored to its full potential. Excellent restaurants only a short drive from lodge. House manager Maro most helpful and gave us all advice/information we needed. Would highly recommend such properties for a holiday in Ireland.

I believe that our experience at Salterbridge Gatelodge can be summed up in one sentence - our stay in Cappoquin has left us wanting more. It was exactly what we had believed a Landmark Trust to be. It was immaculately presented, homely and exuded character and personality. We loved the property, its setting and the area. We could not recommend the property or the area highly enough. We took time to enjoy the property as well as getting out and about into the surrounding area to soak up the atmosphere in Lismore, Ardmore, Dungarvin and Cappoquin. We even made it to the Comeragh Mountains for some hiking. Despite the house, the area and all of its surrounding amenities, what really struck us about the Landmark Trust experience this time was the warm welcome we received from the house manager, Maro, who was even so thoughtful as to bring along a litre of milk so that we could have a nice cup of tea on arrival. She was not only warm and hospitable, but also a mind of information about what to do in the area and how to get the best out of our stay in Cappoquin. We cannot recommend a stay at Salterbridge Gatelodge highly enough and if this is the standard aspired to at all Landmark Trust houses, then we could only recommend them as a magical retreat where time slows and the stresses of everyday life melt into the background allowing you to relax to your core.

We found the lodge a beautiful, serene and peaceful place to stay. The location was close to some lovely places to eat and visit. The facilities in the lodge were excellent and the lady/caretaker was so friendly and accomodating.

I just found that arriving at 4pm quite late in the day to be able to access the property and to leave by 1pm on the day of departure especially as we were a two night stay only...our lady/caretaker gave us some flexibility within this time period but I do feel the cost is quite pricey if you were restricted to the time of arrival/departure.

In saying that we had a wonderful stay in the lodge.

A wonderful place to stay. We all had a fantastic time including baby. The gate lodge set a relaxing atmosphere and it was great staying in a piece of history, well done to the Landmark trust. The whole area was beautiful and there was a lot to explore and do, just not enough time. Special thanks to house manager Maro for the amazing greeting, recommendations and assistance. Hope to book another Landmark trust accommodation next year.....

Maro met us on arrival as arranged. She is clearly a lady in every sense of the word, kind accommodating and with the foresight to have milk in the fridge for us and the fire set on our arrival.

The lodge is a wonderful restoration job and we both found it very comfortable during our stay. The local people in Cappoquin could not have been nicer so we would certainly recommend a stay here for any prospective guest.

Our initial sight of the property was very pleasing. The restoration was unbelievable. The entrance hall was elegant for a gate lodge with regulated under-floor heating. There was a lovely combination of authenticity and comfort. Our host Maro was the icing on the cake, with a great welcome and lots of tips on the house and the area.

Really enjoyed our short stay at Salterbridge. Maro was very accommodating and offered advice about local walks, restaurants and attractions. Cappoquinn is ideally located near some beautiful scenic walks, country towns and heritage sites.
The only down side was the size of the bed; rather small for someone over six foot!
Loved that there was no wifi, tv or other distractions. Would definitely recommend this property to others and visit another landmark trust property.

Set in a beautiful area of the country. Plenty of beautiful walks and interesting places to visit.
Warm welcome from Maro, who was exceedingly helpful to us. Great to hear the Dawn Chorus even at 4.30 am.
Such a shame that Lismore has fallen on hard times during this recession.
We had a lovely weekend and hope to return to Salterbridge again.

A beautifully restored and elegant lodge in a tranquil setting. We were greeted with a very warm welcome on arrival. The lodge is in a great location in the Blackwater Valley from which to explore the surrounding area and our highlights were Lismore Castle, the Towers Walk just beyond Lismore, the cliff walk at Ardmore and Mount Congreve Gardens in Kilmeaden. We would highly recommend this property.

We have stayed in three Landmark properties in Ireland so far, two of them gate lodges. Salterbridge is a small but perfectly formed lodge on the outskirts of Cappoquin. As usual the property was beautifully kept and a haven of calmness; they really are a joy to stay in! We had our four year old daughter with us and the long leafy drive gave her a safe and interesting place to explore and play in. The property is beside the main road but the traffic noise was unobtrusive and even in the evening the lodge kept its quiet and calm feeling. I have complaints, but they are not with the cottage itself. On one of the days we took a trip up the mountains and sad to say there was was much rubbish in the ditches on our drive from Mount Mellary to Clogheen. It left us feeling the world had encroached again, especially where the mountains had been denuded of trees: we really need to manage our forestries better! Lismore, although beautiful felt sleepy and to a large degree shut and it felt a little disappointing. On the plus side, Cappoquin had enough to feed our needs and Dungarvan was buzzy, bright and thriving: definitely a place to visit for food. We also went towards Youghal and on those roads the scenery was wonderfully lush and beautiful. However, let our complaints about external things not take away from Landmark, the properties are fantastic, the staff wonderfully helpful and we will be back. A great organisation that the councils and tourist board could learn from when it comes to restoring and protecting what we have!

A heavenly gatelodge in an absolutely beautiful part of the country.

We had an idyllic weekend- reading and talking by the fire. Walking along the laurel- lined avenue under the heron's nest to admire the flowering magnolia trees in the ground of the house. Listening to Radio 4 while we cooked in our lovely ktchen.

We shopped in pretty, friendly Cappoquin and took Lady Louisa's walk in lovely Lismore. We drove to Ardmore on a foggy afternoon and had tea and scones and the world's best raspberry in the Cliff House hotel overlooking the sea. We sat outside our lodge in the drenching April sunshine and ate our lunch in a haze of bee buzz and laurel blossom scent.

Dairine at the Landmark Trust was so helpful and Maro, the house manager, could not have been kinder or more welcoming. She even wrote a note to our dog:)

The only thing that's missing from this spotless, luxurious house is a hairdryer. But who needs one when there's a roaring fire:)

The building is beautiful, it is historical, it is quirky. The area surrounding it is a perfect example of Irish scenery. What made our stay in Salterbridge so special though was the service and local knowledge of Maro. She has the fire lit, the kettle boiled at the water on for us when we arrived. Such care for guests.

We dined locally on the Friday night in Richmond House and in Dungarvan in the Tannery on the Saturday. Both very much recommended.

A nice feature was going through the guest books, reading notes and looking at the many drawings from previous guests. It was very warming to see people from all over the world sharing their experience of Salterbridge too.

Couldn't fault the property, so sensitively restored, welcoming fire in grate, beautiful area with lots of driving options within easy reach. A terrific discounted deal from Rewarding Times! Would like to visit again when the local "big houses" (Tourin, Dromana, Salterbridge etc) would be open to visitors. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

We had the feeling even before we arrived at the Gatelodge that it was going to be a special weekend, not only based on the pictures but after making contact with the keyholder.

We found our keyholder Maro to be the perfect welcome to our weekend in Cappoquin even before our arrival. We made contact with her before arrival and found her manner so welcoming and accommodating When we arrived to a roaring fire and the kettle on the boil, we knew our instincts were right.

She was very helpful in giving us suggestions of what walks to do, where to eat out, and general information on the surrounding area.

We found Salterbridge gatelodge to be cosy and quaint. Even though you were off a main road, we found the lodge very quiet and it felt secluded. We had a really relaxing weekend exploring different walks around Lismore and Cappoquin. If anything, we found our weekend passed too quickly and would like to have it all over again!!

We have been to several Irish Landmark Trust properties previously so for our week off we thought we would do a trip through Ireland and stay at a few more. The Salterbridge Lodge was fantastic. Location is lovely, (at the foot of some wooded hills), and both the villages of Cappoquin and Lismore have loads to do as well as nice pubs and eateries. Maro the house manager was lovely and gave some great tips on where to eat and what we could visit. The lodge itself is immaculate and decorated beautifully, (just like all the other Irish Landmark Trust properties we have stayed in) it was cosy and warm that we found it hard to drag ourselves out to go exploring. We are so glad to have found this little gem, we are already planning another trip down. Can't rate highly enough.

We stayed here for Valentine's weekend, Maro the keyholder was very understanding as our arrival time kept getting later due to the awful weather on the way down. When we finally arrived she showed us around the lovely lodge, it really is very cute and beautifully restored yet with all mod cons.

There's a lovely stove and underfloor heating so it was very comfy. The location is superb as well, very near to some lovely walks particularly the one that Maro recommended - The Towers - just outside Lismore. When Lismore Castle came into sight we thought we'd been transported to Bavaria, it really is spectacular.

This is the second Irish Landmark Trust property we stayed at and the standard is very high, we'd love to come back here and also look forward to trying out more of their properties.

The gate lodge was a little gem. Location was great but only downfall was the busy main road that ran a long side of the lodge. Also, the property could do with a comfortable sofa. But these are only minor issues. Otherwise our stay was fabulous.

I gave comfort an 'awful' (dreadful in fact) based on the chairs provided in the lounge. They are Junk. I am 5ft 2in and weigh 8 stone (people don't come much smaller than me) and these chairs broke my back, God help any man or average sized female on those things. A bean bag would be more comfortable. Based on this alone I would definitely not recommend Salterbridge to any of my friends and family.

Maru was a joy, a lovely woman who gave a superb welcome and was so helpful and kind.

The area was very beautiful and lifted the soul.

Hope this information is of use.

I really enjoyed my stay at Salterbridge. The lodge was cosy and comfortable. It is also nice to be able to walk into the town in the evening with a path all the way in. I would recommend it to anyone looking for something a little different located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

From the moment of our arrival, when we walked into the drawing room to a welcoming fire, Salterbridge provided a welcome oasis of calm and comfort after a hectic Christmas. Breakfast in Barron's bakery in Cappoquin followed by wonderful walks in Lismore and Ardmore was a perfect way to welcome 2014. As always, a huge thanks to Maro for providing a great welcome. We can't wait to go back.
