Nowadays its cosy vestibule leads through to a light filled sitting room where an open fire adds a welcoming glow to the double height living room. Nearby beaches at Strandhill (20 mins). Sligo town's bustling streets are peppered with small boutiques, cafes and bars, as well as a myriad of craft shops offering many handmade crafts including jewellery, pottery and knitwear.

Our stay at the schoolhouse was wonderful. It has so much character, and in beautiful quiet surroundings. We loved the autumnal walks in the area and the beach strolls were just a short distance away. My dad is a retired teacher, and when young he was in a similar enough type of school building, and where the pupils had to bring in turf with them.

The schoolhouse cottage was an absolutely enchanting stay. The house was meticulously clean and Sarah was an incredible house manager. The flowers from her garden were such a lovely touch and much appreciated. The warm and cozy vibe made me feel right at home. I so much appreciated the washer and dryer as I will be traveling in Ireland for several weeks.Kudos to Irish landmark Trust for preserving and beautifully restoring this historic property.

An excellent location for exploring Sligo and the surrounding counties. An authentic restoration of a school house in a lovely rural, quiet setting. The restoration retained its vintage charm. Lovely country views , especially from the window seat in the main bedroom. Thank you to our charming and helpful host Sarah. Also, a beautiful variety of garden cut flowers in a vase to welcome us.

We had a fantastic family holiday in the Schoolhouse. The kids loved it. Another great restoration project by ILT. The location was perfect for exploring Sligo. The house had everything we needed for a perfect stay. Thank you Sarah for the welcome. This was our second visit to a ILT property and would certainly recommend it. Hope to visit another property in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at the Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. The house was really comfortable. It is a delightful location and was so clean and well kept. Sarah was a wonderful host and told us some of the history of the house which was really interesting. We found that travel was easy to and from the places we visited including Strandhill, Rosses point and the Forest Walk at Benbulben. Thank you.

The house is located in a serene wooded setting but within easy travel to Sligo and sights such as Strandhill, Aughris Head, etc.
Within the schoolhouse there were all modern amenities but within the original Victorian features and charm.
Comfortably sleeps 4.
Highly recommended for peaceful break with plenty of attractions nearby.

The schoolhouse is an ideal short stay for a couple. The decor and furnishings are comfortable and cosy.

It is located in a quiet, remote area which means you would need a car.

The house is completely spotless. It maintains the heat well too.

I'd highly recommend. Very historic and worth a visit

What a perfect place to spend a Victorian Christmas far away from the hurly burly and commercialism of a modern-day Christmas. Sarah had the house beautifully decorated with flowers, fresh greenery and pine cones. She was on hand to show us around and to give us instructions on how to make our stay a pleasant one. The house is really well kitted out with everything one might need including hot water bottles to warm the beds! We really enjoyed our stay and felt as though we had been away for ages ( true time travellers!). All in all a wonderful experience. We"ll be back in the summer to witness the bats' materrnity roost! (Our third visit!) Sarah is doing a great job for the Irish Landmark Trust. Long may you survive and prosper doing your valuable work of conserving our precious heritage properties. Happy New Year.

A lovely characterful house which was perfect for our family holiday.
Very clean, and the main living area is spacious but convivial.
The house and location were very quiet, next to a lovely bridge over a small stream.
Although we were not lucky with the weather, it was lovely to return to the house at the end of each day. It was not cold enough for a fire, but great to know it was there (and set) in case we needed it.
The location of the house is perfect to explore the many delights that Sligo has to offer. We were a short drive away from lots of beautiful beaches: Strandhill, Rosses Point and Mullaghmore, and walks: Knocknarea, Slish Woods, Dooney Rock and The Devils Chimney (Ireland’s tallest waterfall). We also enjoyed lots of watersports (surfing at Strandhill, kayaking and paddleboarding on Loch Gill). Sligo Town was bustling but very welcoming- especially recommended are Eala Bhan restaurant, Le Fournil bakery and Liber bookshop.

Loved the Schoolhouse. Lots of room, beautiful building, wonderfully restored. Completely furnished kitchen, including a washer/dryer. A few miles out of Sligo, but easy access right off of N17. (Note Apple maps has the wrong location - follow Heritage Trust's provided directions.) It's a great base to explore the Sligo/Yeats country or to take a quiet getaway. Sarah, the caretaker, is very nice and took to time to show us around the house and explain its history.

We had a pleasant stay in the Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. Due to illness en route we were about an hour behind schedule but Susan was there when we arrived as we texted when we were about 10 minutes away.

The location of the schoolhouse is ideal for getting to Sligo town and other parts of the county. The downside is that it is very close to the N17 and traffic noise is audible if not too intrusive.

That aside the building has been restored with all the care and attention to detail that we've come to expect from these properties. Somehow the architects and designers have managed to combine period charm and authenticity with all the mod cons like central heating, dishwasher, etc.

As in all the Landmark Trust properties we have visited, the collection of books is brilliant. Frankly it deserves its own category above - definitely a 5.

Thank you for your review. Also thank you for forwarning your House Manager of your late arrival, this is very much appreciated and very thoughtful. As with all our properties, Wi-Fi is not provided, due to our rural locations and old thick walls which prevent mobile signals getting through, which many of our guests prefer.

Nestled above a river and surrounded by trees, the school house is a peaceful retreat from the busyness of urban life.
Lovely local walks take you through small country roads and past farms.
Any other facilities like a shop or pub are a drive or cycle away.
The living area is in the school house is great, kitchen is generously sized with almost everything you'd need. The bedrooms are tight on space, but also have everything you'd need.

Thank you for your review. As with heritage buildings, we keep the fabric of the building original when they are restored by us. As a listed building, permission would not be granted for a modern extension to the original building that would extend the bedroom space, but everything you need for a short holiday is provided.

Beautiful period property. Total seclusion. No TV or WiFi. Magic. Very close to magnificent beaches at Enniscrone, Strandhill and Rosses Point. But especially Mullaghmore Beach with outstanding WAW experience across Donegal Bay. An experience of a lifetime.

We had a wonderful, relaxing and comfortable stay at the Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. The house manager Sarah gave us a warm welcome with a detailed history of the property. It was beautifully presented throughout and had great outside space surrounded by mature trees. This is a unique place to stay when visiting Sligo, highly recommended.

The Schoolhouse at Annaghmore is a beautiful house. It is in a wonderful location. The condition of the house is impeccable and exceeded our expectations. We would recommend this house to anyone who is seeking peace and tranquility. The information Sarah gave us regarding the bats was very interesting.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Schoolhouse - a beautifully presented building that was a joy to spend two nights in. Gorgeous gardens and we loved the stillness and quiet surrounding us. The property itself was spotless and oh so charming. The house manager, Sarah had placed a fresh arrangement of her own garden flowers on the dining table - a gorgeous touch. We would love to come back...well done Irish Landmark Trust on restoring such a property.

This is our third Irish Landmark property we have stayed at. Rustic and charming. We have not been disappointed with any of the properties and the Schoolhouse was very interesting. Nice bedrooms, kitchen and living room. The fire is always a must especially for a chillier evening.

Everything was very clean and Sarah the housekeeper had excellent knowledge of the local area.

We were fascinated by the bats at dusk and my husband recorded 4 different species.

A central location , close to the N16 to pop in all directions on our travels. Plenty to do for a short break around Sligo.

We spent two nights at the school house as two couples and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay . The house is very quaint and warm , and close to Sligo town and Strandhill.Everything was spotless and Sarah very helpful. The only thing we thought would be handy would be a small freezer or even ice box , for the likes of ice or ice cream.

The school house is perfectly accessible close to the N17 with a feeling of remoteness once you leave the main road. Plenty to see within driving distance. The house was warm, cosy and as expected full of atmosphere. Our very friendly host Sarah gave us some information about the house. It would have been nice to hear more as that is what makes a Landmark Trust stay different. The facilities were perfect for us but it might be a good idea to fix up the lovely sofa before it's too late.

From the moment we arrived, we were utterly charmed by this wonderful little house. The House Manager met us and gave us a great rundown on everything about the house including its fascinating history. We felt also really pleased with the lengths to which Irish Landmark Trust and the Sarah the Manager have gone to ensure safety measures and all possible protocols regarding Covid 19. Full marks! The house is beautifully restored, preserving its innate charm while ensuring modern standards of comfort. It was warm and easy to heat; we loved the fires and found the house so well-equipped for our self-catering needs. Although in the heart of the countryside, we were so close to Sligo, Strandhill and near enough to explore the lovely coastlines of Mullaghmore and Enniscrone. Nearby Coolaney has a lovely café "Nádúr", there is also "Shells" and "Stoked" in glorious Strandhill. Plus the famous "Voya" seaweed baths. We enjoyed "Eala Bhán" in Sligo too for lunch.

Had a lovely stay at the Schoolhouse. Warm and helpful welcome from the house manager, Sarah. Excellent facilities, very high standard of renovation. Kitchen really well equipped, fine bed linen and comfortable beds. Atmospheric, warm, very quite, perfect. Out in the country but only 15 minutes by car into the centre of Sligo. If you have a mobile wifi router with you there is an excellent reception and private parking is very good. For me the schoolhouse is within walking distance to my grandmother's old family home so being there felt like home.

The property is charming and unique. It was very clean and well kept. The kitchen was very well stocked and we really appreciated the ability to do laundry while there. The beds were comfy. We chose to sleep upstairs as the downstairs bedroom was quite small for the size bed that is in there. We loved the sitting room and the fireplace. Made for cozy evenings. The location is quiet and peaceful but easy access to The Sligo area. There is no wifi, but mobile service was good. We would stay here again.

Our two night stay in The Schoolhouse was very enjoyable. The accommodation was good and the kitchen was very well equipped.

Suggestions for improvement;

A sofa bed would have been a bonus as my guests were not a couple-I brought extra bedding to cater for this.

Inclusion in blurb that kitchen tea towels ,dishwasher tabs etc are supplied.

More info on local attractions in the brochure in the house -I had researched the area prior to our visit -e.g. Yeats Centre in Sligo town, Lough Gill and Riverstown Folk Park.

We stayed at the schoolhouse in July 2021. On the morning we were due to check in, the house manager told us that there was a colony of protected bats at the house and that we should make sure to close all windows before dusk.
In fact the house has a very, very large bat colony and (as we now know), july and august are 'nursery' season for these bats and a particularly busy time. There were no bats inside the house however; squeaks and flutterings in the roof and eaves could be easily heard from the upstairs bedroom all night. Our car was covered in bat droppings every day and bats could be seen roosting on 2 of the external walls (under the eaves and windowsills) daily. The bats on the outside were only a fraction of the colony, many hundreds more lived under the eaves and came out when night fell.
The bats are harmless. Perhaps some people would even consider witnessing such wildlife an asset. It detracted from the holiday for us and we feel it should have been acknowledged on the website and guests should be informed before they decide to stay at the school house.
The house was well-equipped, cosy and clean. If you like bats it would be a great getaway.

Lovely old converted School House near a river and close to Sligo town and tons of other places to visit like the Carrowmore megalithic complex. Cozy place and well stocked for cooking. Comfy beds and a nice fireplace. All the mod cons (minus wi fi and tv). Our phones had good coverage though and so if we had wanted to we had internet through our phones. Very relaxing, which is just what we needed.

Small 2-bedroom house just off the N17 Sligo-Galway. Substantially rebuilt in 2007, but good character. Well-equipped and comfortable. Very quiet at night. Covid rules meant no direct contact with the manager which was a shame, but understandable. Good base for the Sligo/Leitrim area.

Our family of four had a wonderful stay at the Schoolhouse. It's been beautifully restored and furnished with all modern conveniences *expect* for Television and WiFi. But the host had left the fireplace set, and it was lovely to sit around the roaring fire and properly disconnect from the world. We came away fully refreshed and relaxed and eager to return.

My family stayed at Annaghmore House for 7 nights and really had a fantastic experience. The house itself was so cosy and welcoming. As with all Irish Landmark houses, the facilities were of a very high standard so we had luxury and history all in one. The open fire was a real treat. The beds were really comfortable and the sense of peace and calm in the area ensured a good night's sleep. Sarah was a great host. Due to Covid we did not have a chance to meet in person but over the phone she gave us all the information we needed and made sure we knew that she was available if we required anything. The house and surroundings are simply stunning and if it's peace and quiet you are looking for, then look no further! It is also a perfect base for beaches and walks and Sligo really has so much to offer! Thank you Sarah and Irish Landmark Trust for making our 2020 holiday a great one!

The Schoolhouse is a wonderful retreat and while rural, is close to the beautiful amenities Sligo has to offer. The house is spacious, clean and comfortable. However, our enjoyment was severely limited by a colony of bats outside the bedroom and sitting room windows which we were not made aware of resulting in a bat entering the house. Guests need to be informed as windows cannot be opened while the colony is 'in residence'! The bats rest on the front of the house during the daytime and so are visible to those who care for the property. Guests should receive advance notice in order to take preparatory action.

Well, where to start? The Schoolhouse has a wonderful ambience and a strong sense of history - the sofa and easy chairs need to up dated - suggest plain fabrics in a strong colour which picks one of the colours of the crewel curtains
Otherwise - practically perfect !

First visit to The School House and it definitely won’t be our last. From booking to departure the experience was first class. The welcome from Sarah was excellent, so full of useful information on the area, places to visit etc. Sarah also told us the history of the house, which I really appreciated. The house was spotless and had everything we needed and more. The kitchen is very well equipped and easy to use. we cooked dinner every night and there was absolutely nothing we wanted for! The beds are super comfy with lovely fresh linen.
The tiny details that Sarah has added, lovely hand made doilies and surface protectors, really add to the feeling of warmth and love you get when you enter the property.
Would I recommend The School House? .... YES!
Will we be back? .... YES!
Just try stopping us.

We stayed here for 4 days. Really enjoyed it. Note that the website gives directions from Colooney, and not from the Dublin side so that caused us to get lost and delayed our arrival. Loads to do. Great places to visit and beaches to see plus great choice of restaurants in Sligo. Lissadell House was worth the €14 guided tour but note that this also allows entry to the walled garden and the Alpine Garden. Scones and brown bread were stale in the cafe. Birds of Flight in Ballymote was a good experience.

We stayed at The Schoolhouse for 4 weeks in July, 2019. The location was ideal, as numerous sites of interest were within an easy driving distance. Sligo was only 14 km away. All the amenities were supplied and it was a comfortable, relaxing home. The redesign of the Schoolhouse to be a rental property was carried out thoughtfully and with attention to detail. We lacked for nothing but then we did not want WIFI or TV. There was a selection of books and games (no cribbage board). Our one suggestion would be more (or larger) bath towels.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. The property is sympathetically restored and is full of beautiful little decorative touches. Sarah the manager was really friendly and knowledgeable about the property. The house was really cosy and comfortable and was perfectly located to explore the Sligo area. The kitchen is really well equipped and the open fire made the living room really cosy. The garden is beautiful and the house is in a quiet and peaceful area, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

We enjoyed a lovely stay in the schoolhouse,
The setting among mature trees was very peaceful.
The building steeped in history has been tastefully restored,
A magnificent open fire dominates the living room and makes for cosy nights in.

We were met by Sarah who showed us around,, and gave us a potted history of thebuilding.

Great welcome from Sarah. The house is quite beautiful. Our black Labrador Saga really appreciated the walks each morning up to the walled garden. The weather was fantastic which always helps! The location is close to Sligo and south Donegal, all of which were explored on our various trips in the car. It was a 'special' birthday for my wife and she said it was the best holiday ever. I would really recommend a stay at the Schoolhouse in Annaghmore.

An all too short yet very pleasant stay at the Schoolhouse - a well equipped property in a secluded countryside location and ideally situated to explore Sligo and the surrounding areas. Plenty of local info (walks, sights, restaurants) available to mull over and plan the next day’s itinerary while sitting in front of the open fire!

Our stay in your lovely school house was absolutely brilliant great location school house was well equipped and enjoyed our time there immensely.
The only downside of the whole experience was at the end when we were accused of not notifying that we would have a dog with us which we did when we booked the School house filled in the forms and even had to enter the dogs breed and also the dog’s name.
There seems to be a lack of communication between the Dublin office and the site manager obviously they don’t communicate well and it did leave a bad taste in our mouth’s from what was a lovely stay in your property.
This on the other hand would not put me off booking again but I would advise their ministration to get their act together so this does not happen in the future.

Thank you for your notes regarding your stay at an Irish Landmark Trust property. It is lovely to hear that you had a nice stay at Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. I have had a chat with our Local House Manager and she has assured me that there was no issue with regard a dog at this property during your stay. I can confirm that at time of reservation of one of our dog-friendly properties, the Bookings Office do ask to please make us aware if there will be a dog will be staying. As much as we at Irish Landmark love dogs we also love our properties, and it is always nice to be aware of the breed of dog. House-trained dogs are more than welcome to stay with their humans at our specific dog-friendly accommodation. We welcome a dog free of charge but there are specific terms and conditions that we ask guests to please adhere to. Within these conditions, it does clearly request that guests who are taking a dog to please also inform the House Manager before their arrival.

The property is in great condition and the perfect setting that allows you great access into the many great places to visit in Sligo and the surrounding counties. It is only 15 mins drive to Sligo town and 10 mins drive to Strandhill by the sea, close to Benbulben, Knocknaree and the Glencar Waterfall. Only an hour away from the Marble Arches and the Cuilcagh "Stairway to Heaven". There is plenty to see and great places to eat in both Sligo Town and Strandhill. Shells at Strandhill is a must visit for breakfast whilst gazing at the wilds of the Atlantic Ocean. The house itself is spotless, comfortable and has all you need for the perfect relaxing vacation. Definitely will be back again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in the Schoolhouse. It is cosy and full of character and it catered for all our needs. It's very easy to access close to the N17. We enjoyed exploring Lissadell House & Gardens, Rosses Point and Strandhill. There is so much to see and do we didn't have enough time. We hope to return to the Schoolhouse and use it as our base to do some more exploring of this lovely North West area. Thank you Sarah for your lovely warm welcome and giving us the history of the house.

Everything was excellent, Sarah met us as arranged, had milk in fridge for us she gave us brief interesting history of the schoolhouse. The wonderful scent of sweet pea from Sarah's garden greeted us every morning. Schoolhouse beautifully kept, modern amenities with old style living. Even found some board games in bookcase, great for a rainy day. Great location to explore Sligo-Donegal and surrounding areas. Easy to find as just off N17 a few kms south of Sligo town.

A very restful week in this beautifully restored and maintained old schoolhouse, set in the beautiful Sligo countryside near Coolaney. It was a superb centre to explore the Yeats country, the Sligo and north Mayo coasts, the many neolithic monuments in the area, and also to learn much about early and recent Irish history.

Staying in the Schoolhouse was an unforgettable experience. Everything was perfect! The house is lovely, full of character and was spotlessly clean. The location is stunning with a beautiful walk to the rear of the house and the river to the front. The House Manager Sarah was warm, welcoming and full of knowledge about the Schoolhouse itself and the local attractions. While staying for two days we relaxed, play board games, read by the fire and still managed to visit Benbulben, Lissadell House and Gardens, Sligo town, Strandhill beach which are all within 30 mins drive. I highly recommend staying in this lovely part of Sligo's history.

You don't visit the west for sunshine but once you are clear on that fact and the appropriate gear needed for your stay, everything else will fall into place. There are walks and climbs for all abilities with breathtaking views and enough to keep children, teens and adults engaged ...all within a few minutes drive of this bijou property. Lissadell house, Glencar waterfall, Parkes Castle, Hazelwood, Dooney woods and Mullaghmore... This area is so interesting and varied even in a cold springtime that there was plenty to coax us outside. The comfortable beds with lovely linens and crackling turf fires in the warm, cosy schoolhouse meant we returned gladly each evening.
Sligo has great shops for visitors and good food for the times you don't want to cook, tho' the little kitchen has everything you will need. The Model;Niland gallery had an excellent show running and a delicious lunch menu to bribe the youngest into waiting for the rest of us! A rainy day when energy levels are low? In this house it is a pleasure if you just want to stay home! We had a lovely break in this Landmark property and have returned to it many times over the years. Keep up the great standards and interesting properties Landmark!
Will be back on the site looking for my next break soon.

We had three very pleasant nights in the schoolhouse and we were very impressed by the standard of restoration and the comfort provided by the house. It is an ideal place to stay when exploring Sligo and we spent time on strandhill, rosses point and even walked over to Coney Island. We'd recommend it for adults - the downstairs bedroom is extremely small - and more suited for one adult person than two - or for two children with parents upstairs. But there is plenty of room to relax in the large living room with the open fire. It is extremely useful to have the downstairs shower room. The history of the house is interesting and the house manager was able to give some details when she greeted us at the house.

We and two friends thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the schoolhouse over a windy bank holiday weekend. The house is, of course, charmingly restored, beautifully fitted out and every provision considered. Somehow it perfectly balances the uniqueness and character of the restored property whilst managing to feel entirely modern in terms of the comforts in staying there -well appointed kitchen, soft soft sheets, modern bathrooms, easy heating/water systems, thoughtful milk in the fridge, turf next to the fire. Can't fault it -definitely would return, and recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay. The schoolhouse is situated in a peaceful green-land setting, surrounded by trees, yet still close to the main road, near Sligo, and easy enough to locate. It is extremely cosy with good central heating and open fire. It has been very well restored, the rooms tastefully decorated, the beds comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment, cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, good supply of crockery, and a Belfast sink! The house may look small from the outside, but it is very roomy inside, and clever use has been made of the available space. What was the old schoolroom is now a large sitting and dining room. Sarah the house manager was most welcoming, explained the history of the schoolhouse well, was very helpful and had seen to it that we were well stocked with tea, sugar, coffee, milk, and all the other necessities. There was a good supply of turf available for the open fire! We can heartily recommend a stay at this Irish Landmark Trust location for couples, families, and friends.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Schoolhouse (September 2-4, 2016). The property provided us a base from where we explored the countryside around Sligo. The property was great. We even spent one day just staying in the Schoolhouse reading and sitting around the fire.
The kitchen worked very well however, the location of the Schoolhouse was a bit of a challenge if you wanted to eat out.
I'm disabled and cannot climb stairs. We stayed in the downstairs bedroom and I used the downstairs bathroom (with shower). The bathroom worked for me but is not wheelchair accessible. My wife used the upstairs bathroom (with tub). Both bathrooms were wonderful.

The Schoolhouse is a really delightful place to stay, beautifully furnished, cosy and comfortable. It is well equipped with everything you could need for a short stay. The house manager was very welcoming and provided us with all the information we needed on both the house and the surrounding area. There is plenty to do in the vicinity, and curling up by the fire in the Schoolhouse after a days walking and sightseeing was just lovely.

I think what clinches the Old School House is that living room, once the classroom, with its space, lattice windows, height and light. Great to wake up to, have meals in, come back to after a day out, and relax in (by a glowing peat fire). The surrounding rooms serve their purpose very well - it's good to have a bathroom AND a shower.. Having been there the Christmas before last, when our son and his partner stayed with us, we came back towards the end of the summer just ended, when two couples, relatives and friends, visited and stayed overnight. They all loved it. Finally, Sarah is a No 1 House Manager, always meticulous and thoughtful, and has made a huge contribution to the success of our times there.

Relaxing, pleasant. Far enough off the main road that traffic wasn't an issue. Sligo town is convenient - try Shoot the Crows or The Swagman. The Strandhill Golf Club is also nearby - a nice links course and easily walked (warning - Thursday is ladies day).

We spent 4 very relaxing days in the Schoolhouse at Annaghmore at the end of August.

It is located just off the N17 near Sligo city. A car is essential for getting around but it is a perfection base for exploring the surrounding areas. We liked the fact that there was no TV - games are provided - it made for the perfect escape. There is also no WIFI - this might not suit the gadget crowd but we were glad to rediscover life before the internet!

The house as been beautifully restored and the living area - the old schoolroom has the wow factor. We loved the open fire at night - very cosy. There were all the mod cons in the kitchen, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave etc that you would need, as well as oil fired central heating.

Being an old house the rest of the accommodation is quite small. There is a downstairs bedroom - with a double bed squeezed in - not much room to get around the bed. The shower room is off the hall downstairs - tight, but adequate. The upstairs bedroom, though small is beautiful, with a window seating area. The bed was very clean and comfortable. The ceiling slopes, so at 6'2 there wasn't much room. The bathroom is upstairs next to the bedroom - unfortunately there is only a bath and as we used this room - as it was the main bedroom - we had to go downstairs to have a shower. The stairs are also tight which would need to be a consideration for anyone with mobility difficulties.

The house is sited next to a woodland - very peaceful - but be careful at night to close all windows before putting lights on or, like us, you will have a house full of midges and moths!

It was lovely to be able to sit outside at night, and as it is in the countryside, the stars were clearly visible - very romantic!

Nearby you have the mountains - lakes and coastline. Sligo city is nearby with smaller towns like Ballymote closer for groceries and restaurants.

The Beaches along the coast from Ballina, Enniscrone up to Easky are amazing. Strandhill is a popular area for watersports - though the currents are too strong so there is no swimming allowed. However at Rosses Point there are the most wonderful long sandy beaches with the mountains as a backdrop.

Loughs Gill, Arrow and Key - with their little islands - including the famous Innisfree - on the way down to Carrick-on-Shannon are breathtaking. The facilities at Lough Key are outstanding with paths provided around the lake. We spent a very enjoyable afternoon here.

I love Sligo County - it has everything, mountains, coast and lakes. Leitrim, Roscommon and Galway are easily accessible and all equally beautiful. To stay in the Schoolhouse was the perfect location for us. It was very relaxing and we came back chilled and reinvigorated.

We stayed in Annaghmore School House, Sligo for our honeymoon and had a wonderful few days. We loved our little spot tucked away surrounded mature trees. We found it romantic, charming and cosy in every way. It oozed character from its blue stairs to quirky hot water bottles to a pretty window seat where I reacquainted myself with Yeats's poetry. We were delighted with how well it met our practical needs including a well equipped modern kitchen, central heating, excellent shower, garden furniture to enjoy eating al fresco (and a ready set fire for the inevitable rainy evening!). We loved its location as while it was so peaceful, it was easy access to the main road and within 15 minutes drive to Sligo town. Thank you very much to Sarah and the Irish Landmark Trust. We look forward to checking out many more locations and will bring our little doggie on holidays too!

A beautiful house, spotlessly clean with good linen and plenty of towels supplied. Sarah gave a brief history of the house on arrival which was great. Lovely location.
I traveled with 2 children and a tv in the house for the evening would have been an extra bonus.

We had a lovely few days, walked Streedagh Beach (our favourite spot), Lissadell House, Lough Talt, Mullaghmore, Glencar Waterfall. Would recommend Ethina's Seafood restaurant in Mullaghmore and Langs of Grange.
Sarah was a very hospitable and informative host.
We decided to sleep in the downstairs bedroom as it had a softer mattress but the room is very small and really should have a just a single bed. The sofa in the sitting room needs to be replaced as it is very low, so we found it hard to get comfortable.
Tranquil setting.

The Schoolhouse was just perfect. It has been wonderfully restored and maintained. Buildings and their interiors often invoke feelings and in the case of the Schoolhouse these feelings were of peace and comfort. A cozy little escape to hide away for a day or two.

The schoolhouse is charming, well appointed and comfortable,. The smaller bedroom is however very small for a double room and the sofa in the lounge is uncomfortably low as the springs have collapsed but this could be repaired or replaced. We enjoyed a peaceful few days of walking and reading as the snowdrops emerged. The library was interesting with its historical school texts which fitted in with the general theme. The house manager was very helpful.

We had a wonderful stay at the school house. Our house manager was so accommodating and had the house decked out for the festive season which was so welcoming to us. We truly enjoyed the peace & tranquility and loved the warmth and glow of the fire in the evenings. Would love to return again in the Summer as Sligo has so much to explore and the school house is a great base.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Schoolhouse in Annaghmore. It's a beautiful building yet has everything you would expect in a modern house. Although there is no television, this was a positive thing as we took the time to listen to music, read, switch off and relax. The house itself is very comfortable and cosy. The original fireplace is beautiful, the doors with the old style latches added to the character of the place. The kitchen had all the facilities and utensils you need. While the location is very quiet, it is just off the N17 road from Sligo to Galway. Collooney is ~5 minutes drive and Sligo town ~20 minutes drive.

For us a ideal holidayhouse - 2 Person with the wish for separat bedrooms (for two Person the bed in the groundfloor it is small), a nice livingroom with handsome antique furniture and the open fireplace, a kitchen with enough things, the outside area for Relaxing (it could be on furniture for outdoors a little more) - it is quiet, but not very far to the main road for daily tours

I really can't find anything to criticise, but everything to praise, about the Schoolhouse. What a fantastic place - so peaceful, but still just a short distance from a decent road. Great décor, everything so handy, and toasty warm. I would definitely highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a real Irish break.

Our stay was balanced with the possibility of a Scottish island which I always wanted to do. After booking this we did not look back even given rain.

Sligo appealed and found plenty to choose from, especially to eat at although we ate in mostly taking picnics when possible.
Horse riding and salmon fishing were highlights and local or not so local walks in the most glorious surrounds. We also hit lucky with music being played in pubs and the Michael Coleman Centre.

nice house restored with taste and very helpful manager
we enjoyed the atmosphere of this unique property
it would be good to have better off the road walking nearby
the directions on the website need to be more accurate - it is not 1minute drive from the roundabout
enjoyed the weekend.

The Schoolhouse sits on a rise across a bridge and overlooking a small river. The location is private and serene and the house is lovely, charmingly decorated and very well equiped. It is small, though, and really only appropriate for four adult guests. I'd worry about breakage if I were there with children. The beds are comfortable and the linens very nice. The upstairs bedroom is up a rather steep and narrow staircase which, while carpeted, might make it inappropriate for elderly guests or guests with any serious mobility issue.
We liked the little drawing/dining room but I should in candor remark that the room is rather dimly lit and the two arm chairs are small-scaled and the sofa low to the floor. Still, they are arranged nicely in fron of the peat fire, There is a small round dining table. The room is pretty and interesting.
The kitchen is equipoed with modern appliances but the refrigerator is small there is no freezer. Still, the kitchn otherwise comtains everything one might need.
The directions for finding the turn off the motorway could be improved.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Schoolhouse.

Very enjoyable stay overall. Some additional mattress toppers would make beds much more comfortable. The 2 bucket seats in living room are uncomfortable if you had a full house, perhaps consider a second couch down the line. I will be recommending this property to others.

Located within close driving distance to many monolithic sites, mountain walks, fantastic beaches, and of course Sligo. The area is beautiful, and we had a fantastic vacation.

The schoolhouse is well suited to a family with small children, and had everything needed for practical reasons. I loved the quiet evenings by the turf fire after the kids went to bed. Also, house manager Sarah made sure we had a highchair for our little one, an extra effort that was much appreciated, and she was flexible with arrival and departure times. This is our second trip with the landmark trust, and we will gladly go with them again.

We availed of a special offer, which allowed us to stay two nights at Annaghmore Schoolhouse. At the higher, standard rate, it could be deemed quite dear. Price aside, though, it's a wonderful place. As a couple, we've now stayed in six Landmark Trust properties and would rate this one right up there. It may not be as quirky or unusual as a couple of gate-lodges we've stayed in, but it grows on you. The space, privacy, garden and patio, and the view onto the lovely old bridge all help to create a lovely atmosphere and a memorable stay.

We followed the sat nav. co-ordinates and ended up approx. 40 klms. from the destination. The correct co-ordinates' are N54 09 248 W008 32 852

We had a wonderful time and this was the only very small problem we had. We ate out most of the time and we felt we got very good food at a reasonable cost.

It was lovely to sit back in the evening to read before a turf fire

Beautiful property, expertly restored and carefully maintained by Sarah. Great location - 20 minutes drive from a choice of beaches. We (myself, my wife and our dog) stayed in March but I imagine it would be as attractive in winter as in summer. We would definitely stay here again but we enjoyed this one so much we'll try others in the Trust first.

Enjoyed our stay in the Old Schoolhouse. Cleanest Landmark Trust property we have stayed in to date.
Our contact lady was very welcoming and friendly.
We had a great Weekend and would recommend The Old Schoohouse to anyone interested in a quiet peaceful weekend away from the hustle and bustle of modern living. It was very relaxing.

A an upgrade I would recommend better directions from last roundabout as they are given as " After 5 Kilometres turn right" My car is calibrated in miles and there are a few possible right hand turns from a very busy single carriageway main road.
Satnav can't be used as it will take you to a different location but to include GPS coordinates would simply solve this Glitch.

We very much enjoyed our weekend stay in Annaghmore. The house was spotless and Sarah made us feel very welcome. The house is in a lovely tranquil setting 15 km from Sligo town. The only downside was the cost of taxis to the town at night.

It was our first time to stay in a Heritage Trust house and we would definitely do it again.

A peaceful , restful charming schoolhouse in wooded surroundings complete with red squirrels in the trees , snowdrops in the front lawn and a turf fire burning . There is poetry in the air with mountainous backdrops, wild atlantic waves at the coast and over a pint of stout in the charming pubs of nearby Sligo Town!!

Excellent base for exploring Sligo, Leitrim and the environs. We dipped our toes into the sea at Strandhill, the seaweed baths, a walk around Mullaghmore, a trip to the antiques market, a short hike to see Queen Maeve's resting place at the top of Knocknarea and a fantastically eerie wander around the passage tombs in the mist and rain in Carrowkeel. I think we barely scratched the surface!

I also enjoyed the feudal awakening on Sunday morning to gunshot outside our door. A large group and dogs shooting woodcock I think, from Temple House? They completely ignored us and kept on shooting! Just as well they weren't looking for peasants (sorry pheasants!).

We arrived, late and damp after a drive from Dublin in torrential rain and were met by the lovely Sarah who had come out from her own warm fire to give us a wonderful welcome ..and set a fire for us to light when we arrived. There was milk in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cupboard, a beautiful vase of fresh flowers on the table. Within minutes we were curled up on the wonderfully comfortable sofa watching the flames in the old school room. Every Landmark Trust property has its own unique atmosphere but there is something about the idea of all the children who must have warmed their hands at that fire that made the Annaghmore feel especially magical. We loved the schoolhouse so much. The view of the autumn leaves and the fast flowing river from our bed. The sound of the birds outside our window in the morning. Being close to so many beautiful places. We were tempted to stay by the fire but we tore ourselves away to walk Streedagh Beach, to visit the market at Rathcormac, to see where Yeats was laid to rest and (best of all) to walk the Raghley peninsula. We ate at Shells in Strandhill and brought home plenty of their amazing pastries! But mostly we read (and slept) and talked but the fire with Haggis, our deerhound curled up on his bed, dreaming of all the hares me might catch on our next walk. Thank you to Sarah for all the home comforts and the kindness and to Landmark Trust for charming and delighting and surprising us (again).

We had a wonderful time at the schoolhouse. It was beyond our expectations. We had never anticipated such a wonderful cottage. It was beautifully decorated, snug and immaculately kept. It was an oasis of peace and yet at the doorway to great amenities. Sligo is such a lovely county with stunning scenery. We would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a self catering break in Ireland. We will definitely be looking to stay at the another Landmark property next year.

Thank you!

Booked the schoolhouse for a special occasion my wife's birthday. I had read the reviews and visited the site on the internet. To say everything was as it said on the tin is not untrue. What a little gem in the countryside. From the moment we arrived it was just what I had expected and perhaps even more. The accommodation is very clean and modern. Sarah the house manager makes you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive and has a lot of local useful information. We visited Sligo on both the Friday and Saturday night's for meals and some light refreshments. The taxi fare is a little steep at €30 each way as the schoolhouse is approximately 15/16 Kilometers outside of Sligo. That said if you have a non drinker as a driver then you are on a winner. The silence is what gets you and of course the stars in the sky at night. Sitting beside the open Turf Fire in the grate reading my book .........what heaven. Visit and enjoy.................

We had a lovely weekend at The Old Schoolhouse and everything was perfect, even the weather. The house had everything one could need and was cosy, warm and spotlessly clean. The surrounding countryside is delightful as is the whole county with its wonderful beaches and mountains and stunning scenery. Sligo town is well worth exploring. Sarah was very helpful and informative and willing to please. All in all a most successful weekend and one I would love to repeat.I have already recommended it to my friends. GB memory

We had a wonderful three night stay at the schoolhouse at the end of September. The house is beautiful, warm, clean, comfortable and well stocked. Sarah had supplied all those little extras that you forget to bring when self catering, even down to leaving the open fire set. Sarah was extremely helpful and informative. Location for sightseeing in the Sligo area is excellent and there is plenty to see and enjoy. The Flying Eagles Exhibition is well worth a visit. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Compliments to the Landmark Trust for their excellent work in bringing these wonderful old buildings back to life and to refurbishing them to such a high standard.

We were delighted with the Old Schoolhouse at Annaghmore. It energised us! Lovely setting and very comfortable

We renewed our acquaintance with Strandhill and lunched in "Shells" ( voted Ireland's best tea shop in the Irish Times) and the meal was delicious. We also visited Drumcliff and recited some of W B Yeat's poems at his graveside. Superb restaurant there too.

We thought we'd play our CDs and/or read but we found we had great chats in the very comfortable living room, sipping a glass of wine in the evenings. No callers, no interruptions.

Leisurely walks down by the river, and great scope for photographing Nature at its best.
We certainly got that Indian Summer........

The trip has whetted our appetites to sample another Landmark Trust venue. We really enjoyed every minute of our stay - thank you.

The Schoolhouse at Annaghmore was one of the loveliest houses we've ever stayed in. So immaculate, we thought ourselves the first people ever to set foot in it.It also had the best book collection we found. The setting is incomparably romantic: the wood behind, where it is possible to walk, and the little stone bridge on the river in front, where it is possible to sit.
We had come in search of Yeats poetic sources: and we found them in spades. At Drumcliff Churchyard, Under Ben Bulben, at Lissadell. It was all the first time for us in Co Sligo. But we were also encouraged to find things we hadn't expected from the House Manager's information: The Sanctuary for Owls and Eagles at Ballymote was a great encounter, the Megalithic Tombs at Carrowmore was astonishing.
In Sligo itself, we found a fishmonger who told us of the best beach for bathing; and a wonderful gallery owner who was hosting the latest exhibition of Graham Gingles work at the Cat and The Moon.
We didn't manage to visit the waterfalls at Glencarr, or get to the walks at LoughTait, or even to Knockaree. But that is for the next visit. And all of this took place in the best week of sustained sunshine this year.

Without doubt, The Schoolhouse at Annaghmore was best self-catering accommodation we have stayed in. It was utterly charming, delightful and cosy ....... and immaculately clean and comfortable. We very much appreciated the warm welcome by manager, Sarah, and her extra touches were so thoughtful - i.e. flowers on the table, milk in the fridge and the turf fire set for lighting. The restoration of the building is a credit to ILT and we loved the décor. We had sunny weather while there so the patio area was welcome but even so, we just had to light the turf fire in the evening for the most perfect end to the day. The kitchen is very well equipped. There are lots of things to do in and around Sligo but the house is so idyllic that to simply enjoy the peace and tranquility on the doorstep is also an option. We rate it 10 out of 10 and definitely hope to return.

The building was really lovely and beautifully restored with everything available. Sarah was an excellent host and the house was beautifully presented with the fire ready to be lit, flowers on the table and many nice touches which were very welcoming.

My only negative comment was that the ground floor bedroom would really be better described as a single bedroom or a very small double as it was not suitable for two adults.

It was excellent value for money based on the fact that it was a reduced price deal. I would consider it reasonable value at the full price.

As per my e-mail to Diana of Landmark Trust on May 6th there is a missed commercial opportunity in not selling voids more actively. We booked the accommodation in December last and our plans changed so we asked whether we could book the house for a further night - it was vacant on the website. I was quoted the full rate of €150 for the additional night and only offered a discount of €10 when I made the point that the house would have been vacant and no additional cost in terms of cleaning or laundry would have been involved. Diana subsequently offered a rate of €100 but we had made alternative arrangements by then.

The Trust undertake great work and they properties are really appealing and I would certainly book again in the future.

We really enjoyed our short break in the Schoolhouse and could recommend a stay in this property to anyone.
Beautiful location, immaculately kept and extremely well stocked, this was the perfect place for us to find peace and quiet.
The house itself is atmospheric and was so comfortable we were sad to find the time going so fast.
We hope to return to the Schoolhouse again. For a longer stay the next time!

As with all my experiences through the Irish Landmark Trust, I found Annaghmore to be a wonderfully restored property which manages to retain its period charm and features whilst integrating modern conveniences.
Set in a wonderful location on the edge of Annaghmore estate, Sarah (the keyholder) gave us a brief potted history of the building upon arrival. Central heating had been turned on by her in anticipation of our visit and the open fire was ready to go, needing just a match to set it off. In addition, there was milk in the fridge with tea & coffee also provided. These small details make a huge difference in how quickly you can settle into a property and begin to relax.
When staying in an historic property such as this, I am always prepared to sacrifice a few modern comforts, however the schoolhouse does not require this of you. Even on a very cold weekend with extesive ground frosts each night, there was excellent central heating and ample hot water in both bathrooms for washing and showering.
I would recommend this property without hesitation for either a party of 2 or 4.

Stayed in The Schoolhouse at Annaghmore for a couple of nights in February 2014. We arrived to a warm welcome from the minder Sarah who gave us a quick tour of the house and a brief rundown on its history. A beautiful little house with loads of character and in a great location. Very clean and really well equipped with everything you need for a quiet weekend or a longer stay. I really can not fault this place. We both really loved it.... lighting the turf fire and sitting back with the fit up and chilling out to the sound of silence..! Fantastic place

Our stay in the schoolhouse was one to remember, i proposed to my girlfriend on arrival and the weekend was perfect for a romantic getaway, she loved it. The house is beside a wooded trail and a river. The wall leading up to the house is covered in moss and is like something from an old movie.

If you are driving it is well placed to travel to Sligo town & Strandhill. There are plenty of outdoor pursuits to enjoy. Sarah who met us on arrival was very accommodating and did everything to make our stay a pleasant one.

We loved the Schoolhouse - it was pretty, atmospheric and beautifully kept. Excellent offer with Deal Effect, would buy it again. Looking forward to another visit before too long!

Cosy beds, lovely kitchen, great fire... and all only a small drive away from Sligo town! My Mom and I really loved it. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so great.
