We stayed at Termon and enjoyed the amazing views of the ocean from almost every window from the back and side of the cottage. We loved the location and spent the days sightseeing. The locals were very friendly and myself and my children felt welcomed at the local pub, a short walk from the cottage.

Claire, the house manager does a super job looking after the house and was so friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would love to come back again.

Another wonderful stay in an Irish Landmark Trust property. Beautiful location and property, comfortable, warm and cosy. An excellent break away from it all, and the lack of screens added greatly to a relaxing stay.

Thank you for your lovely review, this is one property that is so remote, mobile screen time is limited. We love our guests to enjoy time around the fire, playing board games and enjoying great conversations.

Magical place so near the sea - it fills up the house with its sound - storm Ashley came in on sat night and it was fierce waves and wind but the house is so solid and comfy we couldn’t have had a better place to stay.
Only small negatives were, there was little in the way of condiments and I was just expecting more as have stayed in other places with landmark trust before and the shower was new but a bit dodgy temp wise.
Thanks

Thank you for your review, Storm Ashley must have been a great experience. We no longer keep left over condiments in our properties for health & safety reasons. All properties do supply tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper and a small amount of cooking oil, as advised on the website property page. Hopefully our local House Manager can resolve the teething problems with the new shower soon.

Thank you for your review. Your score of 3 for value is a little concerning, your stay worked out at €167 per night for 6 adults, €28pppn, we feel this is very competitive for this lovely quirky historic building. Later note: After speaking to the local House Manager regarding this review, I was informed only two people of the six stayed, we have three smaller properties near Donegal that may have suited your budget better.

Termon House is situated in a stunning location, offering a mesmerizing setting to enjoy. The lodging was not only comfortable for adults, but it also provided a welcoming environment for families with children, such as mine. The experience has made a lasting impression on us, and we are certainly looking forward to returning in the future.

Thank you for your review. Your score for value for money is a little concerning for the size of this landmark property and significance of its history. Being so close to the sea this garden is kept very plain and in keeping with the house, and BBQ's are not allowed as this is a historic property and not allowed by our insurance.

We enjoyed our visit. The house site is great being beside a stone beach and walking distance to a sand beach. The house is quirky in layout and well equipped. For those who require their Internet fix 5G is available in some parts of the house. Dungloe is a decent town with lots of food options. The local community centre does take away food on Friday nights.

This was our third visit to Termon house and we got good weather this time so we could take in more of the beautiful landscape in the area. Clare was great as usual and the house was spotless. Could not say enough good things about this house and the area. The strand bar is great for a pint and a chat and they have a nice wee coffee dick at the weekend. Very happy and hopefully be back again.

We loved our stay at Termon House - the views from the bedrooms are incredible. It’s such a lovely old property and very comfortable and spacious. A little care is needed on the stairs and with the bathroom facilities but that is to be expected in an old house. We woul definitely stay again.

We stayed at Termon house for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. We had a toddler with us and she had a great time too.
Bringing your own food is probably a good idea, we didn't need to go shopping , but there are shops a short drive away. We also brought a bag of logs purchased locally, and lit a fire in the evening. No TV was great, however we did bring a WiFi dongle and it worked fine for us .
The beds were very comfortable, we all slept well. There's a stone beach right beside the house, and noise from the sea was amazing.
The kitchen was well stocked, we liked sitting in the kitchen chatting round the table.
If you want off the beaten track, a peaceful location yet close to a town, choose Termon. We will definitely go back ..

Found the house very welcoming and homely. As a building conservation consultant, it was nice to be able to stay in a traditional building and enjoy some piece and quiet. Location is excellent and is as rewarding in winter as in summer. The kids really enjoyed the stay and didn't want to leave.

Truly memorable location and property coupled with howling gales and tidal surges. A fantastically appointed property - they knew how to build back in the day!!! Having anticipated a wet and wild winter stay the property is well presented maintained and surprisingly warm at the time of year we attended. Really comfortable sleeping accommodation everything was better than expected and as represents significant value for money.

Termon House was a delightful getaway, very atmospheric and close to plenty of lovely walks. The host was also very kind, responsive and informative. I appreciate the house was still needing work done, and this unfortunately impacted our stay somewhat. We came with our daughter (< 2 years) and were unable to make much use of the bath due to the amount of gusty, cold wind that was getting through the windows. The cooking facilities, like the oven, needed a good scrub as whenever we turned it on, smoke would plume out and set off the fire alarm. I would also recommend bringing all food with you, as takeaway drivers are very reluctant to come out, and then try to charge a hefty delivery fee.

Your review scores are very concerning as there has been extensive work done to the property this year. As a very old building, it is in the best condition a building of this age could be in, inside and out. The original windows do let some cold in but the heating in this property ensures your stay is warm and more than comfortable in every room, I will check this out on my next visit in February, a cold month similar to your stay. There is an oven provided, that is less than one year old, and spotlessly cleaned on every changeover. There is also an oven in the Aga Range, which also provides the heating for this property, which the local House Manager advises not to use for this reason. This is the first time we are aware there has been a problem with the delivery services, being Halloween night may have contributed, it may have been easier to drive into town to pick up your takeaway.

Stayed three nights with my sister Sharon and brother John. Was my second visit. The house and location is stunning and Claire had the house emaculate when we arrived. We came from Wicklow Town and took a plane up from Dublin - well worth it. We visited Fanad Head Lighthouse in the North where our dad was a supernumerary lighthouse keeper for three months in the late 1950s. After that we relaxed and enjoyed the house. McCafferty's bar in Dungloe does great food. And the Strand Bar end of the road out to Termon is great for a drink and to meet the locals. Thanks Claire for another great stay at this wonderful house by the sea.

It was good to see the old house still in great shape even though it is battered by wind and the effects of the ocean. My first stay was February 2002, and the house decor and comfort has changed very little. The house and Maghery are a piece of history well worth the visit. It was great to have my old Irish friends from The Rosses over to the house.

We were delighted to find, on our return visit to Termon House, that there had recently been such sensitive and delightful refurbishing, both within the house and in the immediate surroundings. It is now in as good condition as it has ever been since we acquired it in the 1960ies - a tribute to the care and thoughtful maintenance carried out by the Irish Landmark Trust. both recently and at other times since the 1980iew when our present usage arrangements were set up.

Thanks to you are all - and congratulations to the present manager at Termon for the impeccable conditions that welcomed us.

We loved our stay even though the weather was inclement. Sea views from all windows and very cozy inside. The fresh flowers were a welcoming touch thank you Claire. We gave the fireplaces a workout and sipped warm drinks while the storm raged outside. Setting fell far away but town is only 5 min away for anything you need. Sadly our walks were curtailed by the weather. Would have liked to know more about the stone circles across the road. Only one potential recommendation, slender “door snakes” cloth bags filled with sand to sit on the top of the lower sash window would help a lot with the drafts.

My husband and I had a wonderful 10-day holiday at Termon House.
We loved:
1. Being able to walk to the sandy beach and back in our dry robes after a swim.
2. Fishing off the rocks a few minutes from the house.
3. Being able to walk to the Strand Bar at night.
4. The open, friendly welcome from the people of Maghery.
5. Dungloe has two good supermarkets as well as other shops.
4. The charming, comfortable and very warm house. It provides everything you need and has wonderful sea views.
5. Donegal airport is 20mins away and an experience in itself. Our daughter flew up on Friday evening and back on Sunday at a very reasonable cost.
We were a little bit disappointed about:
1.The downstairs toilet needing a facelift although it functions well.
2. Some of the doors being very stiff. If like me, your hands are not strong, this may not suit you. I couldn’t open the patio doors at all.
2. The stony beach beside the house being unsuitable for swimming. It’s too shallow and the stones are very slippery, but dogs and children will love wandering around on it.
3.The fireplace in the living room smoking badly. If you want a fire, use the lovely sitting room instead.
Having said all of that, Faye who managed the house for our stay was very helpful and kind. There were lovely fresh flowers in vases when we arrived and the house was clean and warm. We will certainly be back!

Its great to read you have explored the immediate surroundings and enjoyed a lovely stay.

Loved our stay at Termon House. The house was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable with books and games to keep us entertained! Enchanting, old world feel that really transported us back to the olden days (but with all the comforts!). The seaside location is stunning with a beach on our doorstep. The pub at the end of the road was an extra bonus. The host was so friendly and gave us some great information on the local area. We stayed just two nights but came back fully relaxed and rejuvenated. Sincerely hope we return to this gorgeous house.

Thank you for your review and supporting the Irish Landmark Trust. This property is very popular due to its location right on the shore and being able to listen to the tide roll in and out in the morning.

A superb stay!

Termon House in Maghery Donegal is a unique place. Waking to the sound of the Atlantic waves crashing onto the beach outside, views across Maghery bay and the many things to do in the area make this a perfect spot for a family get together come rain or shine (and you will get both!). We will never forget walking along the coast road from the Strand Bar to a turf fire in this place steeped in history. The house manager Claire is so helpful and welcoming and we have been back again and again.

What a wonderful time we had in Termon House, set in a stunning yet peaceful location. We received such a warm welcome from Claire who had decorated the house beautifully for Christmas. The kitchen was well equipped for our food preparation and was a lovely cosy room too. There was plenty of space for us all in the house with a great selection of books and games. It was the perfect place for a very relaxed Christmas.

Termon House is a beautiful old house in an equally beautiful location. While a bit tired in places, this does not detract from the experience: every room is characterful, spacious and comfortable. The views are spectacular from every window. The ocean is metres away. Fields, hills, inlets, headlands and distant mountains complete the vista. The House Manager, Louise, was helpful - and turned up at zero notice to give us access when we arrived much earlier than planned. This was a special stay.

Amazing location in a beautiful old house on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The house is remote - away from it all - but still only a 10 minute drive to Dungloe town. Loved sitting by the open fire as the wind and rain lashed the exterior. The host, Claire, was very welcoming and more than helpful during our stay. Will definitely come back one day. Thank you!

Had a lovely 5 day stay in Termon in Oct , having been here for the first time in Mar 22. Beautiful location , regardless of the weather. Looking out at the stunning views is enjoyable even in stormy conditions . House is cosy and comfortable with everything you need to cook in the large kitchen. We will be back. Many thanks to Claire for the spotlessly clean house

Looked after very well by the house manager when we had teething problems with the central heating. Thereafter a warm and very comfortable house, with two reception rooms and three spacious bedrooms comprising three double beds and a single. Shower downstairs and bath upstairs but plenty of hot water and nice to have toilets at both levels. Great views from every room including the upstairs bathroom. Attractive furniture although the kitchen chairs could use some padding at the bottom of the legs. Good location for touring Donegal and excellent walks nearby.

This is our second visis to Termon House this year having visiied in June last.It is a very quiet and tranquil property,
with not a sound about apart from the rumblings of the waves from the North Atlantic Ocean outside.
The house is ideally situated for exploring all arond Donegal, and Dungloe is only a 10 minute drive with sufficient
restaurants, shops and pubs. Local, pet friendly pub 2min drive or a 10min walk (no food, though).
Termon house is a quaint and interesting pet friendly hideout that meets all ones needs, well equiped with all modern conveniences. (apart from the TV, which can be forgotten about, quite easily).
There is a very well stocked bookcase to peruse for when one just wants to sit and relax.
Highly recommended.

Wish we had it for longer though.
I would make an important recommendation, that they put some grab handles on the bath. I did find it difficult to climb out of.

It was exhilarating to arrive to a beautifully situated house in a most scenic location on the Donegal coastlne. The property is of another world.... quirky, somethng to catch the eye around every corner, and the views from every window are are breathtaking. (Off season sea views would be awesome) .The beautiful beach is a short 15min walk/2min drive.
Termon House is very well equiped with all necessary needs for short/long-haul stay.
Dungloe town is 7/8 minutes drive.
Its well worth the experience, whatever the weather.
Our canine had a great time.

We absolutely loved our break in Termon House. The peace and tranquility was great, it's a great base for exploring Donegal, the scenery around the house is beautiful with a sandy beach, a stoney beach and a lovely pub within a five minute walk of the house. Claire has the house in top condition and we can't wait to get back there. The fact that there's no TV or WIFI was a great break from both.

Second stay at Termon and wow what a transformation.
I loved it the first time round but am super impressed with the work that has been carried out since our first stay.
The care and attention to detail that has gone into the refurbishment is fantastic. You can feel the love Claire the House Manager puts into this house as soon as you turn the key in the door. It’s spotlessly clean and exceptionally well equipped. We wanted for nothing during our short stay. The only problem … we didn’t stay long enough!!
We will be back

Decided to book a few days last minute to take advantage of the weather for an extended family trip. Staff , both on site and at head office , could not have been more helpful and responded very promptly by both email / phone .
The house is in a stunning location, steps away from a rocky beach and only minutes walk from the beautiful Maghery Beach .
Inside the house is charming , decorated in lovely period style and is spacious and comfortable .
The only thing missing was some garden furniture , but was advised this is currently being replaced (given the surprisingly warm weather for March , can understand that this was an unexpected need!!)
The kitchen is large and well equipped with everything you would need to cook ( although I can highly recommend the local Fri evening chippy service in Maghery Community Centre )
There are lovely open fires in both of the reception rooms , the smaller of which catches the morning sun and is a great place to sit and read.
Dungloe is only a ten minute drive away and has all of the services / banks/ shops that you would need
Special shout out to Claire , the house manager, who answered all our queries promptly and was a great help .
I have already booked a return visit later in the year …. That says it all

Termon House is a very comfortable house in a dramatic location overlooking the beach at Maghery. The rooms are all beautifully proportioned and decorated and there are lovely views of sea and fields out every window. It felt like a real treat to wake up here and the beds are very comfortable. From a practical point of view the kitchen was really well stocked (we cooked Christmas dinner here) and the heating worked well to keep the house cosy even in December. The open fire in one of the two sitting rooms was also very pleasant at night. The Sandy beach is about 5 minutes walk down a very small country road. There’s also a pub in the village which you could walk to (on bright summer evenings). Altogether we had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay. Thanks to the house manager Claire for being helpful and having the place lovely!

Termon House is full of character and beautifully proportioned with stunning views in all directions. Having a beach on our doorstep, along with great roads for cycling and wonderful inlets for kayaking, meant that we barely left Mahery during our stay. We even met a seal at the end of a swim! The house was well stocked with everything we might need. It was great to be able to bring our dog too. Our host was very helpful and friendly. Our only regret was that our stay was too short.

Where do I start, from the moment we arrived Termon House is a magical place. Located on the edge of The Atlantic Ocean, Termon has been beautifully and sensitivity conserved and restored by The Irish Landmark Trust. The views from every room are breathtaking. We, as a family of 5 completely enjoyed our stay.
A short walk from Termon is Maghery beach ideal for a refreshing morning swim. The local centre has a wonderful coffee shop and does a Friday night Chippy menu a must while at Termon. Strand Bar for a pint or two. Dungloe has all you would need and Boyles butchers have divine steak, quality you only find in an Irish small town. From Dungloe Co Donegal opens up, however we just enjoyed the beaches with Carrickfinn being our favourite.
Don't wait book Termon today and you will have a truly special holiday.

Shower broken and when fixed was only luke warm. House also filled with smoke when fire lit - had to open all windows (those that could open) to get the smoke out - the smoke was particularly bad upstairs in the bathroom over the living room where the window wouldn’t open.

We had the most wonderful long weekend in Termon House; this is a particularly special Irish Landmark property with amazing sea views from the bedrooms. This was our second stay at Termon House, and third at a Landmark Trust property. The house has been painted since our last stay and looked very welcoming. It was very comfortable and was a special place to spend some time, cook nice food and enjoy family time. We enjoyed the fires, game nights, the walks, listening to the sound of the sea, and this time our dog Bella came and had the time of her life! The children were very sad to leave and we can't wait to return again! Both Marjorie, and Irene in the LT office, were a pleasure to deal with and we always feel we are in good hands. Thank you all for another great stay!!

This was our second time staying in Termon House. We loved it the first time and it didn’t disappoint second time around. The setting is simply stunning. There are gorgeous views from every window. The house itself has been freshly painted inside and out and there is lovely fresh new furniture in the lounge. Beds are very comfortable and the whole house is clean and cosy. Margorie, who looks after the property, is so helpful and she had the house cosy and warm for our arrival on a cold Halloween afternoon. We spent our long weekend walking on the local beaches and then relaxing in the house in front of log fires. We found the Irish Landmark Trust a pleasure to deal with. Everyone from Darren in the bookings office to Marjorie were so helpful. We will definitely be booking again!

Staying in Termon House was like stepping into one of our favouirte novels! The house is very old and the history in the walls and surrounds, is unchanged. We had a mixed bag of weather, so when the sun shone we walked on the rocks near the house and hit the sandy strand for a swim, which is in walking distance. We also easily walked up to the signal tower. When it rained, we didn't mind having an excuse to stay inside the cozy house and play games and read our books, and we enjoyed the books in the library. The house is warm and the beds are comfortable. The children found Termon House a very special place. Marjorie was terrific and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We can't wait to return!

We had a wonderful 5 days in Termon House. The area is stunning, fabulous beaches and coastline.

The house was warm, comfortable & full of character. The views out of all the windows were amazing. We had a mixed bag of weather, when it was sunny we were on the beach and enjoying the beautiful coastline. When it was raining, we were in the house playing games and reading (note - there is no wi-fi or TV).

It has been refurbished sympathetically to it's history, but needs a bit of tlc in terms of flaking plaster, painting and windows, as well as updating some of the bathroom and kitchen facilities / lighting. The kitchen could also benefit from providing clean cupboards / drawers for food storage.

We had a fantastic week and a very comfortable stay in Termon House. The house was a step back in time to an era of conversation and good company. We were taken by the silence, the scenery and the remoteness, yet the local village was always within sight if needed. It was so good for the soul. We missed having to leave it and will definitely be back.

Really lovely house that has been renovated beautifully. The views from every room in the house are amazing and the famine walls surrounding the house are truly a reminder of Irish history. Our family included three teenage children who loved their stay in Termon, even with its isolated location and no TV! The local pub is lovely for a drink and all the people friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone who appreciate the nature and the opportunity to get away from it all.

We booked Termon House for a birthday celebration as we wanted to stay somewhere big enough for six people that was a bit special and we loved the quirky nature of the Irish Landmark Trust properties. The house is very spacious and bright with stunning views of the sea and surrounding countryside from every window. We specially enjoyed the 2 resident hares who put in regular appearances in the garden. There are beautiful beaches all within walking distance (as well as the local pub!) As you might expect from a 240 year old building there were a few imperfections, but the house, furnishings and bed linen were all very clean, and the house manager Margorie could not have been more helpful or welcoming. The house was nice and cosy when we arrived and we enjoyed the turf fire each evening. The only thing we struggled a bit with was the size of the fridge, which is a standard under-counter type fridge and doesn't have a very large capacity for 6 people. However, we were able to use cool bags in the large utility room to keep things fresh. All in all, we had a very enjoyable stay and would not hesitate to recommend Termon House as a holiday location.

After arriving at the house we were greeted by a very friendly host. The house was really clean and nice and warm , the fire had been lit for us too, which was a nice touch. My wife and I had a great couple of days there. The house is 248 years old and has bag loads of character. It had all the modern comforts you would expect and everything works as it should. It´s great to see that the IHT has looked after this property for others to enjoy.

Termon house is located in a amazing postition and delivered everything we wanted from our stay.

My only feedback would be, that the house is now indeed looking tired from both the outside and the inside in terms of cosmetics and structural wear and tear. The house also house permanent residents of its own, birds have made a nest inside the guttering and could be heard lte at night scachting around in the roof.

However apart from this we thoroughly enjoyed ourstay. Termon House is warm, homley and full of character with amazing views out of each window. It now needs some TLC to ensure it doesnt deteriorate any further.

We will certainly be back.

We arrived at Termon House in the midst of a wild Atlantic storm but felt so safe and secure inside. The house was so warm and cosy that the first evening of the storm we did not even want to venture out so we played games in front of the fire, chatted away to the wee small hours and fell asleep in comfy and warm beds, whilst listening to the Atlantic crash into the shore outside. The property withholds such a battering given it's position right on the coastline, but the wonderful Margorie does such a fantastic job looking after Termon House and it is in such wonderful condition throughout. You can really see and feel that the property is so loved and cared for. We had 3 days of exploration of beautiful Donegal and are already planning a return for a much longer period of time. Cannot wait to return to Termon House.

My 5 friends and I went to Termon House for the Halloween Break and we couldn't have loved it more. It is a fabulous place to visit let alone call home for a few nights. The place is spacious, warm, full of old world charm and subtle new world necessities. (Central heating, washing facilities, kitchen appliances...) We loved our views from our rooms and the gentle angles around the nearby countryside. Incredible scenery, interesting history, total comfort and, of course, from Margorie there was a wonderful welcome.

Thank you for your lovely comments about the beautiful Termon House. It is just wonderful to hear that you had such a special stay over the Halloween break. Did you have any trick or treaters all the way out on the coast? Given it's location, many people are so happy about how cosy and warm this property is. The thick walls and central heating always keep our guests inside safe and sound. Irish Landmark Trust are very lucky to have such a brilliant House Manager like Margorie looking after Termon House and Landmark guests for us.

Our 3-day stay at Termon House was an exciting experience. I did not expect it to be so large and it was perfect for me and my 3 friends during our time there. It was a very solid house as we found out when one of our many storms hit Ireland on 10th Oct!!
Rooms were spacious and it nice to have our own bedrooms. The kitchen a great size and the 24-hour stove made it a very comfortable space. The open fires, no television and remoteness of the house all contributed to the escapism we sought from the busy world. Atlantic waves lashing against the rocks meters from the front door also contributed to the wildness of the location.
We read up on the history of Termon House which was extremely interesting as it was once home to the local Land Agent who collected rents for an absentee Landlord so may not have had the same welcome for the local peasants at a different time in our history. However, it has survived today to welcome the sons and daughters of those peasants as well as visitors from many countries from around the world. The Irish Landmark Trust is to be commended on preserving an important part of our past.

If staying in a five-star hotel is not your requirement, and you'd like to experience something uniquely Irish and wonderful, then look into the array of landmark trust properties. There is a good deal of consistency among them, although, in the more remote locations, the greeting may be more personal than in the cities. But they have character, beauty and comfort beyond what most hotels can provide. Unless, perhaps, you're paying four or five times the tariff.

This is a very comfy house in a remote location at Maghery. I encourage anybody planning to stay to bring their bicycles-there is fantastic bike exploration to be done simply by opening the front door and leaving! There are miles of roads with grass growing up through the centre bringing you along scenic routes. Similarly for walking. It would be worth getting info from Donegal Tourism first so that you can plan. Fabulous beaches at Dooey and Portnoo. Don't miss Glenveagh National Park, Glebe House and Gardens, and the exhilaratiing Sliabh League Cliffs. Nearest food at Dungloe, there is a pub at the end of the road which has large TV screens and is a bit dark and cold. Be prepared for a few evenigs in!

Termon House is in a lovely part of the coast, and very well located for the sea, with very spectacular views from most windows. The house is very comfortable, especially good beds. One of the bedrooms is accessed through another one. Upstairs bath and downstairs shower room so plenty of bathing facilities. The heating system works well and you can have a cozy atmosphere with the real fire. Mobile phone access is fine, no internet. We enjoyed visits to Dungloe and had a very good meal at the Waterside Hotel. Walking in the local area is also very good.

I’ve stayed in a few Landmark Trusts and really sold the idea to my family, so was a bit worried that I’d set the bar too high. Needn’t have. Marjorie met us with cookies for the kids, everything we needed and a lovely warm, relaxed approach. Best host I’ve had yet. Lovely house, felt our own for the weekend. Toasty inside. Needs a bit of work on the walls etc but can’t say that impacted our visit. Can’t recommend enough.

As a guest you are helping us in our mission to save, share, and sustain Ireland’s built heritage. It might not feel like your holiday is anything but a relaxing indulgence, but when you stay in an Irish Landmark property, you’re part of a community that’s helping to keep heritage alive. The property is located in such a wonderful location right beside the sea. Termon House dates from 18th century and given its location it can unfortunately have an issue from the full force of the Atlantic against it's gable wall, but Irish Landmark do hope to budget for this in 2018 and we hope to be able to resolve this. Given that the property has survived over 240 years we do want to care for it in the best way we can so we hope to raise more funds for this incredible property.

We stayed as a young family with two children and two grandparents. We were blessed with the weather which made our short stay even more enjoyable and the majority of it based outdoors. The house is in a secluded location, offering direct access and views to a rocky beach. However it's not isolated with a nearby town offering a supermarket, ATM and fast food. The house has no internet access and no tv which only enhanced our stay. However the house did have an extensive and varied range of books and board games, should you be unlucky with a wet day. The location is ideal to explore the wild Atlantic way and there are many walks starting from the house. We found the house well equipped and we made all are meals here. A little tip down forget tin foil and perhaps bring an extra baking tray or sheet if you intend to use the oven. Would definitely go back. At night we slept with the window open and heard no man made "noise", not even the hum of a light bulb or electrical fitting, just the sound of the tide and coastal birds. Truly relaxing and recommend for anyone looking to get away from it.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The only problem was that it wasn't long enough. There wasn't a bad view from any window in the house. We were looking for a lovely quiet time away and all you could hear was the wind, the birds and the sea. Our 3 boys really appreciated their time there and still talk about it as the highlight of our trip. Awesome walks around the tower across the bay as well and "Traditional Tuesday" Irish music at the Strand pub down the lane was a highlight. Will always remember the smell of our peat fires. We definitely want to come back some day.

A unique old property with bags of history and character, right on the waterfront with stunning sea views from all rooms. Had a wonderful holiday here. No overlooking neighbours, total peace and quiet. Difficult to tear ourselves away from watching the sea from sitting room window. Two beautiful sandy beaches close by.

We had a lovely stay at Termon House. The house lived up to the pictures and we loved the location and style. Donegal was evoked when we arrived to a turf fire that had been lit for us by Alice, the properly manager! There was a magical beach nearby and the house book had some great recommendations for things to do - we particularly enjoyed the visit to Arranmore and the great pints of Guinness at the Strand. The heating was a bit dodgy which meant the first night was cold, but it was fixed on the second day.

It was a pleasure get up in the mornings and pull the curtains back just to see the beautiful views out of every window.
The house was surprisingly cosy considering its location right on the beach.
The open fire was a very welcome sight when we arrived. Thank you Alice!
The local pub is within walking distance and serves lovely Guinness.
We drove along the Wild Atlantic Way to Slieve League (Sliabh Laig). The scenery is stunning!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back again sometime.

All 3 generations were very pleased with their short stay at Termon House. We were greeted with a warm welcome - lights on, aga warming the rooms and flowers in the generous -sized downstairs rooms.
We enjoyed eating our meals in the bright and well-stocked kitchen.
Loved the views from all the comfortable bedrooms.
Felt cosy by the firesides in both sitting rooms.
The beaches and scenery are stunning ...including the short walk to the village playground and the friendly pub.

We loved the house so much we didn't want to leave !

We had the most wonderful stay at Termon House. The house itself is full of charm and character and is maintained to a very high standard. The location is just stunning. There are views of the sea from almost every window. A beautiful sandy beach is a short walk away. A community cafe and a local pub gives you a choice of refreshment after a walk or swim at the beach! Both Alice, who lives nearby and manages things for guests, and Irene, who organised the booking were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be booking with The Landmark Trust again!

This was a short four day stay with one other family member and my small, terrier dog. From the moment we approached the house and saw smoke rising from the chimney and then saw flowers in the vases, we knew we were welcome to our first stay with Landmark Trust.

The location is a short, fifteen minute drive from Dungloe however once we parked our cars we never used them until we departed. Termon house is protected from the side and the rear by stone walls with a lovely pebble beach immediately beyond the wall. The views from the house across the Atlantic with adjacent sandy beaches, are lit by the rising sun in the morning and the setting sun in the evening.

We were very fortunate to receive both a gift of oysters and mussels from the local fishermen who support a nearby fish farm with direct links to the French markets. One can just relax in Termon House by the fire or partake of numerous, nearby mountain walks. In April we found whilst walking there was very little road traffic and the coastal road offers spectacular views over the sea.

To have such quick access to save beaches I am sure would be an extra bonus even to guests with young families. We would certainly like to book Termon House again for a longer stay.

Termon House is full of character and the sound of the sea as it is almost on the beach and definitely on the wild Atlantic way-a great recipe for a good night's rest! The house manager was helpful and pleasant and the house was clean and comfortable as we always find with Landmark Trust properties. Donegal tourism however hasn't woken from hibernation yet this winter. Apart from beautiful Glenveagh we found most places closed...Highly recommend this house but maybe wait 'til May when everything might be open!

My friends and I had a wonderful time in Termon House this weekend.
We arrived in the dark on Thursday night and went to sleep with the noise of the wind and waves outside, and still were completely blown away (not literally!) by the beauty of the views the following morning.
The house was lovely and cosy, thanks to Alice the house manager who had a roaring fire waiting for us on Thursday night. Alice also called in to make sure we were settled ok on Friday, and was extremely kind and generous with her knowledge of the house, and of course the local area.
We found the facilities in the house just perfect for cooking and staying in, and had a great time dodging the showers and going for walks nearby.
We loved staying in such a historic building, and reading about the house, and its place in the local community really added to our experience.
Once again, Irish Landmark Trust comes up trumps!
Thanks to all involved.

With a family connection to Donegal in the west of Ireland, we've been visiting for many years and Termon House features heavily in family mythology, to be able to stay there, listening to the waves crashing outside the windows through the night and bringing in the new year by a roaring turf fire - well it doesn't get much better than that.
Maghery is a cracking place, the beach is unrivalled in any weather, a great welcome as ever in the local Strand bar, and the house manager Alice has the place cosy and inviting.
If you want to get off the beaten track, onto the wild atlantic way and get face to face with the elements, this is the place for you

Hi there,
Superb location and great house, but not for winter letting!
The house was very clean, but some parts of the house are in a very poor condition: painting falling down from the walls....
The house is not suitable for winter letting and - to be fair -should not be rented at this time of the year!
One of the bedroom is OK, the two other bedrooms extremly humid and cold!!!!!! Impossible to get it warm even after three days....

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Termon House. It is important for guests to note that this property is a heritage building dating from the 17th Century and located right on the atlantic sea shore. The property is heated and aired throughout the year, even when vacant, to ensure that it is kept warm. This is important for the structure of the building as well as comfort of guests. There is central heating and 2 fires that can be lit at Termon House and many guests have said that this makes the property lovely and cosy during their stay. Of course this can be relative depending on the person. This winter has been particularly difficult for Termon House due to the many storms that have hit Ireland's shores the last few months. We will continue to rent the property even during the winter months as it is important the property is kept alive and maintained and the best way to do this is to have people stay there.

As we were coming from outside the Republic of Ireland, we had extreme issues contacting the house manager prior to check in, who does not have email (she's a lovely woman but it would have saved me HOURS of frustration & a missed opportunity to go sightseeing as I was stuck trying to resolve the issue. PLEASE just get email... It would have been 5 minutes instead of several hours) We also got incredibly lost on our way to Termon House... Our difficulties were to a degree, in fact, we absolutely wanted to give up and just stay elsewhere. However, dispite the initial difficulties, our actual stay was fantastic. The house is wonderful and the views & location are beyond compare! Once we arrived (w/ enough food to sustain us for our stay) we didn't have to leave. There were miles of trails to explore which led to sand beaches, rocky coastlines, several ruins, and even stone circles!! We could have stayed longer and still have lots to explore! As it turned out, Termon House was one of our favorite places to stay in Ireland! Unfortunately, I am still extremely disappointed that getting there was such a nightmare.

Glad Termon stole your heart. I am glad you got a to stay there. I am sorry to hear the detailed maps I sent you did not help you on your way there. It is quite an isolated spot (one of it's big charms for a lot of our guests) but I thougt perhaps once you were back in the Republic of Ireland your phone would be back working. With regard to the House Manager getting an email well unfortuantely in Ireland the broadband does not reach the far corners of the country as much as we would all love it to be. Given the location of the property and the lack of internet for the community I do not foresee this changing I am afraid. Glad we got it all sorted for you in the end and that you had achance to enjoy the incredible Termon.

Beautiful, very secluded location. Sea literally at the end of the garden, and mountains all around. It is a period property with period features, so if you like that sort of thing it is great. Log fire lit to welcome us on our arrival - what a start! 10-15min drive to town, but you would put up with that for the location and atmosphere.

We returned to Termon House after a one-week stay last year. This year we based ourselves at Termon for two weeks having spent the previous week at Galley Head in Co Cork. We returned to Termon because of the location of the house. We enjoy the semi-isolation and spent our holiday reading, walking, cycling, swimming, eating and drinking. We had a brilliant holiday and it lived up to the expectations set by last year's experience. BUT, we have some observations (which I would prefer you not to publish). Termon House is in serious need of some TLC. There are clearly issues with damp and during our stay we experienced stormy weather for about 48 hours during which we had to bail-out and mop up water pouring in through the south-facing windows and french doors. I think there were sand bags last year and they would definitely have been helpful this year. There was also major ingress of water through the roof around the velux window in the utility room and you can see from one of the bedroom windows that the roof slates have slipped causing the problem. The result of the weather is that the paint is literally falling off the interior walls. The crumbly powder is unpleasant, especially around food in the kitchen. We thought it was time Termon House was given a re-paint inside and outside. During the stormy weather, a fuse blew, a result, we thought, of a fault to the wiring of the outside light above the front door. A number of minor irritations could be easily rectified with a bit of care and attention. Several of the ceiling light bulbs needed replacing. This was most problematic in the kitchen where the absence of a main light would have been unacceptable had it not been midsummer and light. The washing machine does not work (it does not spin) and the Stanley (as far as I could see) does not heat the water. We relied on the immersion heater for hot water. We travelled from Galley Head to Termon House and the contrast between the condition of the two properties was very marked. Galley Head was immaculate. As one of the older acquisitions of Irish Landmark Trust, it seemed to us that the Trust needs to re-visit Termon House to ensure its proper maintenance. But we had a lovely holiday and these observations are sent in a spirit of notification rather than criticism.

Thank you for letting us know about your recent stay at Termon House. I am afraid once you put a review up there is no way for us to stop it been published but I appreciate your effort to contact us directly (if you wish to do so in the future please email [email protected]). Unfortunately Termon's location right on the shore of the Atlantic does mean that it is subjected to some dreadful weather. During the dryer summer months we make every effort to maintain and repaint the walls when we can but due to the horrible weather (some of which you experienced during your stay) we have had this summer it has been very difficult to arrange this. We are trying very hard to arrange some time to do this and hope for good weather. I can assure you Irish Landmark does make every effort to ensure all our properties receive the same care and attention. With regard to some other items you have mentioned I have forwarded these on to the House Manager and we hope to have these all address as soon as possible. Thank you for bringing them to our attention.

Our stay at Termon House was wonderful. The house keeper Alice was very welcoming and helpful. The house was amazing, full of charm and very spacious, and with a family of four boys this was a critical factor. The pictures on the website don't really do the house justice.A beautiful house in a beautiful part of the country.

The location and charm of Termon House made our stay very memorable. The house was very comfortable though one bedroom was fairly drafty, and we kept eating there to a minimum (breakfast only). There are a couple of good food options in nearby Dungloe for lunch/dinner, and a few supermarkets too to stock up on breakfast + snacks. Our only regret is that Donegal is a stretch from Dublin, otherwise we'd be back again sooner!

This is a beautiful house in a unique location we had a couple of main issues but firstly

The decor was very tasteful and the bedrooms and bathrooms were really great. Really comfortable beds with great bedding.

Problems: very damp walls in kitchen and living room. As the house dried out the walls started to flake and deposit dusting of white powder. Question safety of some of the electrical sockets.

Open fires smoked and as we had asthma sufferers with us we gave up trying to light them. A pity as a roaring fire would have been perfect.

The patio style doors leaked

We were delighted to find Termon in excellent condition - nicely prepared by Alice and with all systems go.

The weather proved exceptional for September and this was a most memorable stay.

We stayed in Termon House for a weekend and it was a delight. Alice had the heat on and a fire burning. It was warm and comfortable and the bedrooms were big and spacious. The location is stunning and even though the weather was bad we got to walk in the beach and explore Termon.

I now know what Paul Brady was singing about. We dropped in for a couple of days but would love to have stayed a while longer. A wonderful place in a magical county. Tremon is a great place to base yourself to explore the northwest. If you've not been to Donegal before - just go. If you've not been to a Landmark property - book one.

Termon House is a beautifully restored and maintained house. We loved the remoteness of the location and great views of the sea, wonderful peace and tranquillity, a great " get away from it all" destination . We enjoyed the experience of living in a house of a bygone era which was very comfortable and pleasant .
.
Alice, the house manager was extremely helpful and gave us very good local advice which helped us to made the most of our stay.

A long time visitor to Maghery in Donegal, Termon House features heavily in our family mythology. To see it refurbished to its former glory was great, to actually have the opportunity to stay there - fantastic!
An amazing property, grand, but warm and cosy and with a location probably second to none anywhere.
The sounds of the wind whistling around the eves or the weaves crashing on the beach outside is pretty special and the welcome from Alice the House Manger superb.

Six nights wasn't really long enough to enjoy fully the beautiful surroundings of Termon House. The remote coastline is wonderful. The house itself is delightful and the views from the windows are stunning. We were sad to leave Termon House.

The local pub is charming and we enjoyed staying on our own without TV playing scrabble all evenings.

Termon is a really stunning property on the Donegal Coastline near Dungloe. There were six of us at the house and we found it very comfortable. Fuel was provided for the fires and we got a warm welcome from Alice. One of the double bedrooms is accessible only through the twin room so this makes for a little bit of extra consideration if everybody retires at different times, but this is not the fault of ILT. It is simply an old house.
The views from all windows in the house are inspiring and breathtaking and there is alot of walks in the area. We went to Glenveagh National Park and got some lovely sunshine. A great experience.
Overall we were all very happy and will certainly return some day.

Beautiful location, second stay in a Landmark Trust house.Views from various windows were just fantastic. Loved the beach. Materials in kitchen could do with revamp, also stickers on switches in kitchen indicating purpose would help. Given distance to shops it would help if there was toilet paper in house upon arrival. Bins also appeared very full on bin day given nature of property(additional bin bags added to those left out so landmark trust picking up someone else's tab)

1. Kitchen cleanliness was poor, especially range
2. Kitchen ill-equiped: no mixing bowls/sharp knives or vegetable peeler and no scissors
3. Cold weekend when fires were essential. Both chimneys in living and sitting rooms smoked badly. Eyes affected.
4. Leaking skylight in utility room above dishwasher and kitchen window very draughty.

Regret we were unable to agree to turn off heat Friday night Saturday morning to enable serviceman to carry out maintenance on stove. Perhaps better done during summer months?

Hi i would firstly like to thank Alice for all her help during our stay. We had a fantastic time and hope to return in the summer. What a beautiful house, even our dog had a great time. She sleep for a week when she got home. The only thing i would say is the radiators did not work very well but we still were lovely and warm with our open fire. Fab place to visit and i would highly recommend it. The local bar was fantastic and the bar man Mick is a gent. Hope to return in the summer and thanks again. The Waddick Family

Amazing location overlooking the wild Atlantic ocean - surrounded by roughed harsh country side. The house is a delight of old world charms full of period characters - turf fireplaces/ stone slab flooring/sash windows and old iron cast framed beds. warm and comfortable interiors to help keep you secure while the winter storms howl outside - Just wonderful !!!

will be back for sure one day !!

The House and Alice were really good.

However the condition of the house was surprisingly disappointing. The plaster was falling off the walls, especially in the living room and the hall & landing. This made the place quite dusty. Also it was not possible to turn off the radiators downstairs (as the switches were missing) which was a considerable waste. These issues would need attention before I would return despite the fantastic location.
This was unexpected as we had been so impressed with the Salterbridge Lodge that we had stayed in before Xmas.
It was still a great weekend and we enjoyed it but I felt u should know these issues.

Stayed here with my family over Christmas 2013. As expected, the weather was pretty wild, but this only added to the drama of the house and the location. We had two fires going all the time and the place was lovely. There were one or two leaks which would concern me if I owned the house, but they didn't cause any discomfort to us at all.

There are lovely walks around the area, starting from the front door of the house - I didn't get in the car the whole week we were there.

Highly recommended!

We stayed her for a long weekend in november, the house was a little chilly when we arrived, I think the radiators in the rooms need to be bled. But with a few glasses of wine and the fire blazing we where in heaven!
I would definatly reccomend this to friends, with the added bonus that is is dog friendly.

A charming house in a great location. The lady of the house was not informed of our coming. The only other thing I would say is that the directions on website or instructions given in the email to the house were not great.
