We had the best time, the house was so warm and comfortable with big sash windows overlooking the sea. The location was perfect for day trips and it was nice to have a comfortable house to come home too every evening. Big thanks to Pamela for her kindness and for maintaining this historic property to such a high standard

We stayed for a weekend at Blackhead Cutter, and despite the winding road access, we were treated to a beautifully-restored lighthouse accommodation. Blackhead Cutter is a perfect combination of history with modern amenities, and we spent a comfortable couple of nights in the house and exploring the country around. Even a storm on the last night didn't disturb our sleep. Pamela was helpful and welcoming and I couldn't recommend this accommodation more highly.

I had a very nice and comfortable stay at Blackhead cutter and found it very peaceful, the house had what I needed
for my stay.
The weather was great and I was able to walk along the coastal path into Whitehead, although there are
a few steep steps between the lighthouse and the shore, but there are some cafes, takeaways and bakeries
to make use of, in Whitehead there is also a train station to help get about.
On arrival I was met by Pamela the house manager and made most welcome.
The view from the lighthouse is brilliant and Scotland can be seen on a clear day along with most of Belfast lough
and the Copeland islands.
It would be nice to come back here and try one of the other houses at Blackhead.

We will definitely be back. What a wonderful place for a complete getaway. Pamela was such a warm and welcoming host, the house was spotless and well equipped. The walks are gorgeous into Whitehead and The Gobbins a must . We enjoyed some great food and company at the Golf Club and made very welcome especially by the locals and Pamela. Highly recommended.

Former lighthouse keepers daughter who was born in 1945 and returned in 2024. (Leonard Stocker).
The accommodation was fantastic and it brought back many happy memories that I could share with my loved ones.
The lady who welcomed us was very knowledgeable and very helpful.
I would stay here again! I enjoyed the walk that was on our door step too. The location was close to Larne where we got off the ferry and other tourist destinations weren’t a million miles away. I would highly recommend this accommodation again.
The sunsets are second to none too with stunning views.

We had a wonderful family holiday in this beautiful property, although at the beginning the children were a little anxious that there was no TV or wifi(so were we). We got used to the pace of life very quickly and played games, reconnected as a family and enjoyed watching dolphins, boats, the weather and sunsets from the windows, which was better than any TV. Every morning we woke up to the sunrise and the a view of the sea and weather. Amazing.

We could not have had a better stay. Our family shared two of the lodgings and it was so enjoyable. The quarters are incredibly cozy and well-maintained. The views right outside are spectacular. The nearby walkway made for an excellent hike. Yes, the road to the lighthouse is small and winding, but it is well worth it. This was just such a special place. I hope to return soon.

We all greatly enjoyed the stay here perched above the Irish Sea.

We had a fab stay at Blackhead Cutter. Pam was very helpful and friendly. The views are lovely, beds comfortable, water hot, and kitchen has everything you need to cook a good meal. Living room very comfortable especially with the fire. Ignore Google maps and follow the directions provided with your booking. Google didn't acknowledge the road, even when we were driving on it!

Thank you for your review and your Google Maps tip, Google will take you into Whitehead to walk to the lighthouse, as lighthouse guests, there is a single track private road that sweeps along the headland and takes in the wonderful view of the sea, the cottages views at the lighthouse when you step out of the car definitely is a wow moment.

We stayed at Blackhead light house for two days and it was memorable experience. The sea view was amazing from the inside and outside the house. The house looks old looking, but cozy and spacious and has a full of characters. Especially, the wind, rain and wave made us more exciting. 100% come back again and would recommend anybody to that unique place.

We loved the remote and spectacular location. The house was spacious and everything worked. Old sash windows can be a bit draughty but they frame the constantly changing sea and sky beautifully. Wonderful cliff walk towards Whitehead.

Quiet, beautiful and so peaceful. No Wi-Fi, no tv just the sound of a crackling fire and the wind outside, watching ships goes by. A lovely sea path below for a walk among the black basalt rocks at the shoreline.

We spent a lovely 2 nights in the Blackhead Cutters house (2 adults & 2 teens). We were lucky to have dry sunny days when we were there. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped and plenty of space for us all. Loved that we could light the open fire in the sitting room which added to the relaxing atmosphere. The location is just stunning, beautiful views of the ocean all around and lovely walks down the cliff face to the coastal path below, I jogged in and out to Whitehead both mornings, lovely little seaside town, quiet this time of the year. We ate in the nearby golf club one of the nights and food and service was great. (The road to the lighthouse is narrow as expected so caution is required, we were driving out one of the mornings and met the bin lorry coming so we had to reverse the whole way back!).

We couldn’t have found a better, more scenic location to explore the east coast. Only one hour from Ballycastle and 10 minutes from Carrickfergus. And the trail called The Gobbins was 2 minutes away. Do the Gobbins. It’s unforgettable!
We say Carrickfergus castle and had lunch in Castile Italiano. Excellent Panini!
Pamela was so helpful and welcoming when we arrived at Blackhead Cutter. She takes excellent care of this lovely building.

Waking up and having this fantastic view from the bed was brilliant. We were lucky and saw dolphins.

This is an amazing property steeped in history. We woke up every morning to the sea view and sunrise. The coastline and walk to Whitehead are breathtaking. Pam made it all very relaxed and easy .We just loved staying here.

We loved our stay at Blackhead. It was quiet and the views were amazing. The only thing i woiuld havr changed was the overcast at night so i could take some night photography with the lighthouse. The beds were the most comdortable of our entire holiday.

Booked 3 houses at Black Head Lighthouse with 13 best friends from Wicklow town. We are a swim group called The Stonechatters. House Manager Pam gave us a warm welcome on arrival and everything was perfect - the houses are well equipped and so cosy in the evening when we lit the fires. We walked, we swam, we cooked, we drank. A spectacular place with stunning views. My father was a Supernumerary assistant light keeper here back in the days, late 50s or early 60s and was also on the Maidens lighthouse which can be seen from Black Head. Definitely be back! Thanks Pam!

This is our second visit. Compared to other lights this is easily reachable and close to the village. This doesn’t detract from its charme, on the contrary the walking loop to whitehead on its own makes the trip worthwhile. We didn’t see any cetaceans but you can’t have it all

We had a great time staying at the lighthouse! Contact with Pam throughout was straightforward and helpful. The property was perfect - warm, clean and the perfect set up for meals in and games nights, with nearby towns only a short drive away too. The lighthouse views were stunning day and night and we enjoyed reading about the history of the property and the traditional aspects of the house. We’ve already been recommending to friends and hope to return ourselves!

Wonderful location. What an opportunity to stay in such a landmark.
The views and walks from the property were stunning.
The people we met in the area were very friendly.
The property held its character while having the comfort of central heating and an open fire, superbly equipped kitchen and fresh towels and bedding like new.
A good library and binoculars provided.
We hope to return here sometime as it is a fabulous place to unwind.

We were greeted by Pam on our arrival and we're treated to a warm welcome. She is a wonderful representative of the company. The house was warm and comfortable, the open fireplace the heart of the place every evening. The house is very evocative of the history of the 100+ years of it's history. What an exi!

We had a fantastic time at the Black head Cutter Lighthouse. The location is extraordinary. It was a little difficult to find but took no more than a few minutes to solve.
Pam was there to meet us and very helpful.
The house itself is very cozy and slept 4 of us comfortably.
We could not figure out how to light a coal fire but with the lovely weather we really didn’t need it anyway.
Outside the views were spectacular. All the paths, caves and beaches kept us all occupied. It was an easy walk to town for tea.
Very memorable experience for us all and would do it again and spend more time.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable, excellent heating and water heating system. The house and lighthouse were built in 1902 so it is an old house and has that charm. Views were superb. We could see Scotland on a clear day. We enjoyed the cliff walk and walk in to Whitehead by the sea. Excellent Railway Museum in Whitehead. People were very friendly and welcoming. Excellent and regular train service to Belfast from Whitehead.

We were very impressed with the condition of the house, everything well-preserved and talking about the history. We enjoyed it very much, the old sash-windows, the wooden floors, the doors, everything. The communication with Pamela was very good, she is very helpful and showed us the other (even nicer) apartments when we left. I´m a lighthouse enthusiast from Germany, so the stay at Blackhead was the highlight of our Ireland-trip.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Cutter at the Blackhead Lighthouse for a couple of nights. The house had everything we needed with a well equipped kitchen and beautiful bedrooms, both with sea views. The host Pamela was so helpful and informative. A great place for a quiet stay and yet close to the lovely Lighthouse Bistro restaurant in Whitehead. Plenty to explore in the area. The house is a real glimpse into the past lives of lighthouse keepers and their families.

Lovely place to stay, the coastal walks are stunning and the local town has plenty of coffee shops for breakfast. A short train to Belfast or carrickfergus will get you to some excellent restaurants too. I have been many times before and will be back.

Beautiful location, felt very isolated but it is very convenient for the town. Walk in along the coastal route and visit the whitecliff inn then have dinner at the lighthouse bistro. Excellent location to explore the coast.

What a beautiful location! Great view across the sea and towards the village of Whitehead. Very scenic coastal walk into Whitehead. The only downside was finding the place. Google Maps will direct you to the car park in Whitehead. To get to the lighthouse, you will need to head to Whitehead Golf Club, drive past it over the ramps and keep on straight, descending down the windy roads and sharp bends until you eventually get there. Don't expect a signpost! The Lighthouse Bistro is a great place to eat and Portmuck is the place to swim.

Tom & I both enjoyed our 3 night stay in the Cutter. Its fab cliff & sea views really appealed to us. I liked the old 50's decor in dining & sitting toom but really appreciated the modern kitchen & bathroom. The inside of house was warm & cosy as heat came on with a timer. We enjoyed reading & chatting so didnt miss the lack of TV or wifi!
The outside did look a little neglected - in need of a good whitewash! All in all a very pleasant stay. Fran & Tom

We stayed in Cutter cottage at the Blackhead lighthouse for three days and enjoyed it very much. First the location: we were right over the sea, looking out at the blue horizon, walking the cliffs and coast, immersed in peace and solitude. Second, our host Pamela was very helpful and gave us a great welcome. Third, the house itself was a gem, built in 1904 and furnished to its period, while being 21st century comfortable.

Blackhead Cutter is a beautifully restored lighthouse keeper's cottage stunningly located overlooking Belfast Lougj and with direct access to an amazing cliff walk. It's not so easy to find (ignore Google maps) so would benefit from clearer directions being provided. Thanks to a helpful local farmer we found our way and it was well worth it when we got there.

Our stay was made more pleasant by the friendliness and helpfulness of the House Manager Pamela Stewart. For example, Pamela noticed we had a bottle of champagne and very thoughtfully dropped in 4 champagne glasses. These small things mean so much. The accommodation was very comfortable and true to it’s history

The location of the property at the end of a winding track about 1km beyond Whitehead Golf Club sets it off in perfect tranquility with incredible views along the length of Belfast Lough right across to Scotland. Historically, the lighthouse stood tall over Titanic as she departed the city where she was built The beauty of the property and the immediate surrounding area combined with the friendliness of people, a great selection of restaurants and the world class scenery along the Causeway route made our stay really memorable.

A special shout out to our great host, Pamela, who met us on our arrival and gave us a great welcome.

We spent a blissful 6 nights at blackhead cutter and could not recommend it highly enough as a holiday destination. Absolutely superb views, peaceful location and beautifully decorated house. We were also impressed by the measures taken to enhance safety in relation to COVID-19 - the house was spotlessly clean and key boxes were fitted for a no contact check in. Highly recommend Blackhead for a peaceful escape from it all.

We absolutely loved our stay at blackhead cutter lighthouse. We are a family of four - we stayed with our two boys 4 and 7. The property was spacious and so comfortable - the beds were not like a typical holiday rental - proper mattresses and lovely linen. There was loads of space and lovely
touches like fresh flowers. The property really brings alive it’s history - through furniture and artefacts but also information about former lighthouse keepers, Carnegie library.

Pamela was easy to get in touch with and
gave us recommendations for nearby beaches.

The views were spectacular and drinking
a glass of wine in the evening looking out over the sea will be one of my best memories of 2020.

I would highly recommend a stay here.

The Cutter Cottage more than lived up to its description! It was a real delight to be able to stay in this charming lighthouse keeper's house which has been faithfully preserved so you get a real sense of what life was like for the original residents. However, with all the mod cons it is cosy and comfortable too. The cliffside location is simply stunning and you feel like you're on the edge of the world though it's not too far from Whitehead. Fabulous walks and wildlife.

Despite the Covid-19 restrictions, Pamela made us feel very welcome. And overall we feel very lucky to have had the chance to stay in this amazing property.

My family of 4 stayed in the 2 bedroom detached house at Blackhead lighthouse. Beautiful part of the world and fabulous views across to Scotland from the dining and seperate sitting room. The newly renovated cliff walk has just reopened and is about a 30minute walk in to neighbouring Whitehead with pods of Dolphins passing by. Thanks to Pamela for looking after us.
This is the 2nd landmark trust property we've stayed in having stayed in scoop last year and the lack of TV and Wifi is a godsend.

I have travelled to several unique locations and always try to book unique stays. This was easily one of the best. Pamela was outstandingly courteous- we had booked in anticipation of doing the cliff walk, but it was shut for construction. She went out of her way to pick us up, which was far above and beyond what was needed, but it was much appreciated. We met her daughter, who gave us a lovely tour and introduction of the place.

The place is magnificent. Old world feel, beautiful antiques, but all of the luxuries and amenities of a modern stay. There are plenty of reviews concerning the beautiful state of the place, I’d like to focus on the experience of it.

We had a horrific storm the second night. Wind outside was howling, couldn’t walk anywhere, rain was pelting sideways... but as soon as you closed the door you were in this cozy, safe place. With a roaring fire. Old books. The company of a loved one.

We also entertained a guest for dinner, and the kitchen was more than well stocked. I am an actor, and this experience made me feel like a lighthouse keeper far more than any reading or preparation could have done. It was just a deeply authentic and true escape.

And the views! Walking outside to sun, catching the distant curve of Scotland on the horizon, or watching a fisherman pull nets far below. It was truly beautiful, and due the variety of weather we encountered there, I’m convinced it would be beautiful no matter when you went, even though we visited off season/winter.

My family and I had a wonderful time staying at the lighthouse! It was nice to be unplugged from the rest of the world and spend time with each other. The house was beautiful as clean. The views were incredible! Pamela is a wonderful host, very kind!

Blackhead Lighthouse and Cutter was the perfect location for a vacation. Quiet, relaxing, peaceful, beautiful. There was also lots to see and do. The hiking around the lighthouse and Whitehead was excellent for exploring. We also enjoyed the history of the lighthouse and had fun pouring over all the information that was provided in the ''lighthouse library''. The buildings were clean, tidy, well supplied and well appointed. Very nicely done!!! Pamela was an excellent host and stayed connected with us throughout our stay. We would highly recommend this property.

Bloody brilliant 3 nights. Only wish I could have added a 4th but no standby system exists. Very comfortable. Views are extraordinary. So quiet. Drive in a little exciting - do it in daylight.

One word: awsome. The lighthouse is a museum, perfectly maintained, with refined details and furniture but yet very comfortable and cozy. The location is excellent: less than 10 minutes by car from the beautiful village of Whitehead, half an hour from Belfast, and the lighthouse is easily accessible from a very narrow but easy road. The place is pure magic, two nights didn't seem enough! Highly recommended experience. Thanks to the Irish Landmark Trust for their work and for making such special stays available to everyone.

Blackhead Cutter: The house was perfect for us (3 persons), clean, cute and confortable. I appreciated the fresh flowers. Great view and the feeling of living in a historic place.
A little bit difficult to access the place...
It was just too bad that it was not possible to visit the lighthouse... and the poor condition of the trails...

Wonderful you found Cutter to be perfect for your group and you enjoyed your time there. I am afraid that the lighthouse itself is still in operation and is cared for by Irish Lights so Irish Landmark Trust and our guests do not have access to it. The trails you are speaking about are, to our knowledge, currently been assessed by the council about how best to make them safe for the public again. This is outside of Irish Landmark Trust's control.

We spent two nights at Blackhead Cutter at the end of a fortnight in Northern Ireland en route to catching the ferry from Belfast. The Cutter is comfortable, well appointed and very spacious. We loved the nautical feel of the varnished floorboards, wooden shutters, fitted cupboards and the Carnegie library. The cliff-top location is quietly spectacular; we greatly enjoyed watching the ships sail by and the light shining out after dark. It is an excellent base for exploring Belfast and its vicinity. We walked into Whitehead and caught the train into Belfast for St Anne's Cathedral and the Crown Liquor Saloon and a second train on to the wonderful Ulster Folk Museum at Cultra (sadly we ran out of time for the neighbouring Transport Museum). The fascinating town of Carrickfergus with its remarkable castle is also nearby. In Belfast, from a previous visit, we would also recommend the Linen Hall Library (and its coffee shop) and the Ulster Museum. In sum we hugely enjoyed our first experience of lighthouse life and wish we could have stayed longer.

Could not imagine any greater place to experience Irish history and nature. House and surroundings like from a fairytale, truly a stunning place to enjoy vacation. You need to see this with your own eyes. We stayed in the cutter which was like a house with multiple floors and everything was extremely clean and in great conditions. We also played golf in Whitehead golf club. Course was amazing and you could see Scotland from there.

Magnificent location, lovely story, perfect escape. No TV/WiFi was a problem at first with the children, but it forced us to play games together and they loved it. A real fire was a bonus.

Our second time staying at the beautiful Blackhead Cutter and we had another wonderful time there, helped by the Easter sunshine!
Real old world charm in the property with modern facilities well integrated. We used it as our base for a return trip to The Gobbins nearby, a wonderful experience to rival any other in Ireland. Also enjoyed a family horse riding trip on Islandmagee, trips to Browns Bay & Portmuck, and the coastal walk from Blackhead to Whitehead (closed in places, hopefully will be fully restored & opened in future as would be a wonderful attraction in the area).
Blackhead was a great base for a perfect family trip, enjoyed by adults & kids alike.

Blachkead Cutter is in a wonderful location with fantastic views. The cottage is very comfortable and relaxing. The walk from the lighthouse to Whitehead is lovely and the village has some excellent eating places. Gobbins Walk is also a must.

Blackhead Lighthouse is a stunning place to stay! The Antrim coastline is just beautiful and the coastal walk from just outside the door is lovely. We were lucky enough to have the first real warm weather of this year shining down on us as we made our way into the town of Whitehead and just loved every second of it. The house itself is wonderfully decorated and so cosy in the evenings when the weather took a turn. Thank you to Pamela for the warm welcome. Hopefully we will return sometime in the future.

This lighthouse was beautifully restored- it is so wonderful to see these locations being taken care of and loved. We loved staying here (our friends rented a second section of it and we had the place to ourselves)

That’s being said, here’s a little hospitality feedback:
1) We had no hot water the day we arrived and weren’t able to get that sorted out until the second day. For the price we paid, that’s something that should have been checked before arrival

2) the instructions left in the lighthouse felt unwelcoming. There’s a big sign saying that if you leave dishes unwashed you’ll be charged a fee, to be careful with everything in the place, etc. I can understand wanting people to be cautious with a historical place like this- but as a traveler paying prices similar to a top hotel- we expect that level of hospitality. You should welcome people as guests- which means not expecting them to wash dishes or empty the trash bins.

3) extra towels and pillows would have been nice. We were given one per guest.

Again, we loved staying here. With just a few details fixed, this would have been a 100% awesome experience.

The accommodation was excellent and the views spectacular. The location is great being remote and yet only a half hour walk in to town on a good path.

Absolute wonderful place to stay, Very relaxing and peaceful. You get the full effects of what the lighthouse stands for... the howling wind, the rough sea, but yet calming. The area is very private, the views were fantastic and the house was very comfortable. Could find no fault in this place, and would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

We had a great time very pleased with stay.You could consider telling host to warn guest about extensive ramping of lane to light house. The one infront of golf club Blackhead Cutter Antrim is unmarked nearly ripped underside of car off as we were unaware of it. Others are very poorly highlighted { paint on smallest yellow triangle }.

We had a great stay at Blackhead cutter, it's exactly what we thought it would be like, open fire, wind blowing off the windows, peace and quite all round. If you want get away from it all this is your place. The house was very clean and it's location is second to none.

I do not know what to say: everything was perfect.Right away! On arrival we had no difficulty finding the location and we immediately met Janice who explained everything to us. Very easy. She and Pamela were very kind, like Mrs Irene Carroll.
The rooms are tastefully furnished: romantic but without exaggerating.There is a lot of space, even for more people. Everything is in the kitchen, even heating in summer and the fireplace....and binoculars! The place is romantic and very beautiful.
What a pity that the path could not be made, but we know it did not depend on you.

The location is superb.
Our stay at BHC has been wonderful, the location is cozy and romantic.
Everything was perfect, since we met Pamela (the manager) that showed us the property and all the facilities.
Sited at the beginning of the Causeway Coastal Route, gives the possibility to reach each and every location easily.

I really enjoyed my stay at Blackhead Cutter. The property was very well taken care of and little touches like fresh flowers in vases and books to read made our stay even more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay. We took the train from whitehead into Belfast and it was quick and convenient.

Blackhead Cutter is as good as it gets - the rooms are large but nicely proportioned with beautiful wood panelling and high ceiling. The views from the large windows north to the Gobbins, east to Scotland (which we could make out) and south to Whitehead are spectacular. A beautiful walk from the Cutter brings you to the lovely Victorian town of Whitehead and a regular train service to Belfast. Well done to Irish Landmark Trust for their great work in restoring these properties, keeping them alive and allowing us to experience such unique and memorable properties. Wonderful experience at the Blackhead Lighthouse Cutter property. The place is authentically beautiful and the views were second to none. To be fair, we experienced 8 days of perfect weather--three of which were at the Cutter location. The ocean and coast views went on forever interrupted by landfall in Scotland and distant islands with other lighthouses and their beacon lights--absolutly beautiful!! So much to do in the area including the Blackhead Cliff Walk (just steps away), The Gobbins Path (a must-do!), The Belfast-Titanic Museum, Many Game of Throne tours or just simply riding the coastal routes in and around the area. You won't be sorry to rent this property!

Our stay at Blackhead Cutter was absolutely heaven on earth for us! Everything was top-notch and the view was, needless to say, spectacular. We loved the accommodations, particularly that everything was exactly as advertised and as it looked in the photos. The lighthouse is tastefully appointed - enjoyed the nice touches of the quality linens, the barometer, the Irish pottery dishes, the flowers, the games, etc. - and comfortably furnished. We were able to enjoy breakfast at the large dining table with a full view of the sea and the light. Enjoyed seeing the light from the master bedroom at night, as well. The house itself, while older, is in great shape - even the craftsmanship of the wood shutters is beautiful! We appreciated the modernization, too ... the fan in the bathroom, the washing machine, the heat control, the portable drying rack, the adequate number of electrical outlets, the fridge, etc. All very helpful.

Pamela, the house manager, was absolutely lovely. She was accommodating (I had failed to contact her four days prior!), easygoing and helpful when we had a bit of confusion about how to work the hot water. She clearly cares about the place - maybe she's the one who has added all the nice touches!

As for the location, it was perfect for us. With a five to ten minute drive to Whitehead, we had access to everything we needed to make meals, post letters, etc. We particularly enjoyed the walk from the light to town along the cliff and beach path. Everyone was very friendly and the scenery was beautiful. We loved the sheep next door and soaked in their 'baa-ing' as much as we could. We could easily have stayed at the light house for weeks on end, but, alas, we were on a whirlwind tour of Ireland.

I would absolutely recommend Blackhead Cutter to anyone who might be interested!

A dream come true!! Always loved lighthouses so staying at this huge 2 story home was amazing! It was beautifully decorated,very clean and even had fresh flowers! Also had a very modern kitchen and bathroom. Loved waking up to view of lighthouse and sea!

We spent a week staying at Blackhead Cutter and loved every minute of it. To start with, the location is unbelievable - right on the cliff edge with the most stunning views. The drive along the very narrow lane to get to it is a bit daunting at first, but gets easier. We were glad we didn't meet anything coming the other way!

We were greeted by Pamela who was so friendly and helpful and really got the holiday off to a good start. The house itself oozes history and charm, with its wooden floors, sturdy old doors, high ceilings and character. You really get a sense of its past. All the furniture is comfortable, the house was extremely clean, the beds are great, and the bathroom/shower room and also the kitchen are large and very well-equipped. The central heating made the house very cosy and we didn't need the open fire. Fresh flowers in every room was a lovely touch. No TV or wi-fi, but in many ways that was a blessing and we didn't miss either.

Blackhead Cutter is a wonderful place. We are so glad we chose to stay there, and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Followed the directions, no problems, the road is narrow but well paved. It's a lovely walk down down to the sea shore. The house itself was very clean and warm. Really great place to get away from it for a while. Pamela was very helpful and made the entire process very smooth. Will recommend. Recommend popping into Mauds in Whitehead for some ice cream

First of all, the customer service provided by Pamela was outstanding. She was attentive in every aspect. The location, the scenery, amenities, etc were outstanding as well. Strongly recommend, however, please make sure you check the weather as we were caught in a very strong winter storm which kept us from leaving until the late afternoon, but that was part of the experience!

We spent three nights here over New Year. It is a fantastic location and is the third landmark trust lighthouse we have stayed in. We loved the open fire and the house was warm. Great views and good coastal walks. The view from the bedroom was outstanding and we highly recommend it.

This cosy, well maintained cottage is in a beautiful location. It is quiet with amazing sea views and close to the beautiful Antrim Coastline.
We had a relaxing time by the open fire and enjoying the spectacular views.
The cottage is well maintained and well provisioned.

We were 2 couples on an extended trip around Ireland and we are agreed that the Cutter was one of the highlights of our trip. The views and the walks magnificent. The cottage is well equipped and comfortable.

Nothing to fault the cottage or stay. Very comfortable & spacious. Going back there at the end of each day was like going home; it is that comfortable & welcoming. Great experience staying in a lighthouse, highly recommend Blackhead Cutter.

We loved staying at Blackhead so much a few years ago that we booked again. The Cutter is new, but just as delightful as the lightkeeper's house, with a few more-modern touches. It's a very romantic, relaxing spot. Walk down the cliff path to Whitehead, take a train to Belfast, or just enjoy basking in the breezes and sights and sounds of the Blackhead location. Pure bliss!

We loved our stay in the historic Blackhead Cutter. To wake up and look only over the sea was spectacular. Well appointed house, well equipped but what about an extra toilet - maybe in one of the empty sheds? We did not have enough time to do all we wanted. Will have to come again.

This is a fabulous property with simply incredible sea views. The location is wonderful. The house has been restored very very well. We were given a warm welcome by Pamela, the house manager. We enjoyed the views, the walks and the cosiness of the house. A truly memorable experience!

This is indeed one of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much and especially loved the views from the dining room and from the master bed room. Perfect base for daytrips to the Giant's Causeway and Rathlin Island. We would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to come back one day.

Our family of 4 (with 2 boys age 13 and 8) stayed in Blackhead Cutter for 1 week in july 2017. We had a great time! The location is perfect with lovely views all around. The house is big and very comfortable. We loved the decoration and the small touches (fresh flowers, binoculars for looking out over sea, maps of the sea surrounding the lighthouse). Close to the house we recommend walking the Gobbins Path (book well ahead to avoid disappointment), eating icecream at The Rinkha and visiting Ulster Folk Museum.

From the very beginning Pamela went above and beyond to make sure our stay was to our satisfaction. We truly appreciated all she did and extra attention. The Lighthouse experience was one we will all treasure. I'd advice anyone to stay a few nights and disconnect from your phones and media. Plenty of good books to read.

We loved our stay here at the lighthouse from the moment we drove along the road and saw it in the distance to the day of leaving, it is a place that we will always remember. We were lucky enough to have weather of all sorts. At one time it was cold, grey and foggy which made it even more inviting when inside with the fire going and watching the storm from the warmth of the house. Another day it was blue skies and sunshine which gave the place a completely different feel with the sun streaming in and was enjoyable to get outdoors and do the walk around the cliffs and along the foreshore into Whitehead.

Staying at the Cutter is like going back in time. We liked it in that it was suitable to invite friends over to that I hadn't seen in a long while. It was also close to Whitehead and its amenities. We had dinner in the golf club which was lovely and walkable to. I had learnt from another website that you got 10% off the food bill if staying in the cottages.

However that being said there are a few things that could be better. First of all the key says number 3 on it, however the cottage is not signed at all. The hot water was hard to work and there was no radio - even though it said there should be on the details. I just felt it was all a little stark, a welcome pack would have been a nice touch. There is also no outdoor living - a patio and some chairs would have been great - you must have some good weather!

We went as a party of four and there is plenty of room, cupboard space, china and cutlery for four. The house is really spacious and airy, the bedrooms delightful and the sitting room comfortable and convivial. Looking out of the window is a constant delight. The comfy beds are a menace to tourism - you could easily spend hours in there and not go out anywhere...

To get onto the Blackhead coastal path into Whitehead, climb up the steps towards the laneway and turn in at the green fence post. Turn right, Whitehead is in front of you.

When you're at the lighthouse, you're sort of associate members of the Whitehead golf Club. This entitles you to 10% off your food bill, but not the Sunday carvery, just the normal menu.The food is very good, portions are generous and the staff friendly and welcoming.

Finally, a visit to Portmuck harbour is a treat!

The location and views are out of this world. Once we had the heating going it was really cosy. It was lovely to be able to light the fire in the living room. Even though we were only there for the weekend we ended up using the washing machine which was great. The kitchen is very well stocked with absolutely everything you need. The interiors is gorgeous, uncluttered, warm and homely. The beds are very comfy and waking up with a view over the see is really special. The house is spotlessly clean and there is nothing we missed or I would change.

Such a beautiful house, maintained to the highest standard, keeping all the old features but also very comfortable and cosy. Spent two nights at Blackhead cutter and we really didn't want to leave. Beautiful walks along the coast and the friendly little village of Whitehead a short distance away. Open fires in the evening and games of scrabble, pure relaxation!. This is a special place :)

Beautiful property restored exquisitely and what a location. I dont think ive ever stayed anywhere so beautiful. Its a great base for travelling the antrim coast. Ive already recommended it to several family and friends!
The only thing i'd say is that be prepared for a single track, steep, windy approach to the property (you are on the edge of a cliff after all!) Wouldn't suit unconfident drivers!

We had a wonderful time. We played board games around the fire, went on day trips and enjoyed the views and cliff walks. The house was so cosy, especially for an old building we were very warm. Loved the shutters and the decor.
The kitchen was fantastic.
We would definitely return. Watch out for the ghost of Charlotte, she is a good one though!

We had a wonderful few days in Blackhead cutter. The property is beautifully restored with amazing views out to sea. We visited in December, and the property was very comfortable and warm. It was great to light the fire with the wood provided. Also lovely to have the coastal path passing the door.

We stayed in the Blackhead Cutter and Blackhead House 2 Lightkeepers house. Everything about it was so easy and laid back resulting in exactly what we wanted in a weekend away. Pamela was great, and all directions and information provided by her were so clear and straight forward. It also was great to have her contact number as a back-up too, just in case of emergencies.
It is a really special place in a stunning location. Both houses were immaculately kept, with a very well stocked kitchen and bathrooms etc. We particularly loved all the old books in the houses, the old furniture and furnishings, it added to the atmosphere of the place.

The weekend we were there was a lovely mix of calm one evening with about 20 dolphins playing in the waves along the cliff edge, to stormy the next evening when we had the fire lit watching the weather from the comfort inside. We really to appreciate the full lighthouse experience. The beds in all rooms were very comfortable and the communal spaces could well accommodate all of our group. It really was the perfect weekend away.

We hope that is it respected by all visitors to ensure it is kept in the excellent condition it is currently presented in and for the unique accommodation that it is.

Our stay at Blachead Cutter was simply perfect. Thanks to Pamela for her warm welcome and keeping this house so well. It is cosy and inviting. The kitchen is very well equipped. Beds are very comfortable and the shower is great with plenty of hot water. Our favourite room was the sitting room where we enjoyed the stunning views, our books and the open fire. The area is very scenic with lots to see and do. We would love to come back sometime.

A most beautiful place , the building was restored and equipped to a very high standard. We were greeted warmly on arrival and the service and help was excellent. Our children loved it so much adventure , great walks around the sea . Even in the rain this place would be charming.

What can I say? Fantastic location, fantastic views, fantastic walks. Oh and fantastic lighthouse!
Such a short drive from belfast, who knew that there was this wonderful oldie-worldie retreat tucked away on the cliffs overlooking Whitehead and beyond.
Even though felt so authentic as if back in time to yonder years, and discretely modernised with power shower & central heating, one still felt as if transported back in time.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Pre-trip was slightly worried about how to pass our time (with no television etc), but the views, the walks, and a short drive to many local amenities the time passed effortlessly (too fast I hasten to add, will surely be back some time soon!)
The path down to the shorefront is quite steep at times, I would urge caution for the unsure-of-foot and those with small children, but the view is so worth it. Leads on to a lovely half-hour walk into Whitehead itself.
