A wonderful location, superb accommodation, excellent consideration for our comfort.
This is our second stay at Castle Chase, first the Tack Room and now The Hay Barn.
If you don’t want to read all of this review, here is the bottom line :- It may be listed as one bedroom, but all the parts of the accommodation are enormous. There is so much space you could almost get lost. There is nothing the owners, Sarah in particular, haven’t thought of. If you have stayed in a suite of a 5-star hotel, then this is better. The attention to detail is enviable, and Sarah (and Helen the “Housekeeper”) are absolutely committed to ensure that you enjoy your stay and have everything you need. I would challenge anyone to find fault anywhere.
The location is beautiful and peaceful, adjacent to the wonderful herd of Cows that the farm breed. We took many photos of them because they looked so friendly. On two of the evenings, we were treated to a wonderful ariel display of around 20 long eared brown bats hunting for insects over the field, truly spectacular and so rare to see.
As to the accommodation, it is a one bedroomed accommodation, but small or cramped it most certainly is not! The bed was a super king and very comfortable, and yet looked quite small against the very large room, with multiple power outlets, a dressing table and extremely large wardrobe and a vaulted ceiling. A floor to ceiling window doubling as a door, and presenting a great view of the fields.
The living and kitchen area is enormous, again with a vaulted ceiling, multiple dimmable lighting massive amount of storage and worktops and just about any dining utensil or machines you could imagine. The views again are fantastic with multiple aspects, including double sliding patio doors leading to a patio and grassed area all enclosed by a secure wooden picket fence. Particularly helpful if you have a dog.
The bathroom was again much larger than most homes would accommodate, including a large walk-in shower / wet room and again a vaulted ceiling with electric skylight.
The places we found interesting to visit were Launde Abbey, Oakham Castle and Rutland water, all within about a 15-minute drive, and we hope to be staying with Castle Chase again, if only to relax and rest in that 6ft wide bed and watch the cows stroll by in the morning!

After staying in the Stables 3 times and the Tack twice we were a bit apprehensive before we arrived. That soon disappeared as we entered the Hay Barn. The team at Castle Chase have excelled themselves. In our opinion the Hay Barn was excellent for two plus our dog. Looking forward to booking again in 2026.
