Spent a very enjoyable autumn break at The Kennelman in Powburn - three couples plus 2 dogs. Location is pretty good for exploring Cheviots and the coast - around 20 min drive to Alnwick, 35 mins to Bamburgh and 40 mins to Holy Island. Richard and Fiona were very friendly and attentive and sorted out everything we asked for. The property is adaptable with 2 bedrooms on the ground floor with separate bathrooms and an optional third with ensuite up a flight of stairs. The ground floor bedrooms are not huge and storage space is very limited but beds are comfy and heating / ventilation all good. The majority of the ground floor is a single, open plan high-ceiling living space with a good kitchen, with dishwasher and washing machine. The fridge is a bit on the small side if you are self catering / cooling booze but manageable. Nit picking I'd say it could have done with a set of weighing scales and some deeper cereal / desert bowls. The dining table was excellent and properly sized for six, sofas very comfortable. Very pleased with EV charging in the rear yard, a dongle is provided to start the charger and record how much has been drawn so Richard can invoice you accurately at the end. Charge rate was 6.5KW / hour via regular type 2 connector, you will need your own cable. Walking dogs was easy straight from the rear of the property onto public footpaths / quiet lane. There is an enclosed rear yard they can be safely let out into. Beware that there is a lot of livestock throughout Northumberland although there was none along the most immediate footpath at the time we stayed. Powburn has a petrol station with a reasonably-provisioned shop next to a thematically laid out antique shop that is worth a browse. Alnwick has a wide range of supermarkets and other retailers. Visit the bookshop in the old railway station, dogs allowed and has a coffee shop. The unpretentious Powburn village pub, The Plough, has recently reopened and OK for drink but very limited food offering, however there are many reasonable options a bit further afield. The best all round we found for a lunch was the Ship Inn in Seahouses - very close to the Swallow Fishmonger smokery who provided the best kippers we'd ever ever tasted and you can spot the photos of celeb chefs and others who have made the pilgrimage). We'd recommend avoiding anywhere in the vicinity of Craster that claims they make "famous crab sandwiches" at the risk of the filling being largely from a can. We would, though, unreservedly, recommend a stay at The Kennelman.

Spent a lovely long weekend at The Kennelman 3 bedroom cottage with extended family and our dog.
Was so good we have booked the 2 bed option to go back ourselves with our dog later in the year.
Absolutely immaculate, very clean, well equipped to a great standard with comfy beds and furniture.
Extremely friendly and helpful hosts that are around if you need them but give you your space too.
Fantastic touches such as a very comprehensive information file, fresh flowers and lovely welcome pack with local products.
The garden and great walks from the door made it ideal for the dog.
Facilities and bedrooms downstairs were ideal for us.
Garage in the village has a well-stocked shop and Alnwick not far away for eateries and takeaways. Lots of places to visit a short drive away too.
Looking forward to our next trip when the dog-friendly pub at the end of the drive will be open after refurbishment.
Perfect!

Our Northumberland Cottage was a delight, a wonderful mix of old and new -- historic buildings with modern conveniences. We (3 adults) stayed in the Kennelman, that featured 3 spacious bedrooms, a full, well-appointed kitchen, and great common spaces. The hosts, Richard and Fiona, were so helpful, and thought of everything to make the cottage comfortable, attractive and convenient.
With so much historical architecture and castles to see in the area, it's no wonder the Harry Potter franchise frequently filmed there. Taking in all the nearby sights, we felt like we were in Harry Potter's backyard!

The Kennelman is a beautiful cottage. It was perfect for our family stay with the dog. The bedrooms are a great size and very comfortable. The amenities in the cottage, as well as the range of utensils, was great for self catering. Everything is provided for your stay, and excellent quality. The dog had her own bowls, throw and treats provided. The enclosed garden meant the dog was safe outside
The location was just what we wanted as we were able to take walks from the property and visit the amazing Ingram cafe which exhibits some interesting art work- we bought a couple of paintings. Wooler, Alnwich and Rothbury are all a short drive away. We ate at the Tankerville Arms in Elgingham, which was a 10 minute drive away.
A lovely cottage, a great setting with views to die for and the perfect location for walking and visiting small towns in Northumberland.
