One of our favourite places to stay in the UK. The Brake has everything we need and more, including an enclosed garden which is really dog friendly and secure. Thank you again and we can’t wait to come back again soon!

The accommodation was perfect, and the owner had thought of every small detail for guests.
Even bits for our 2 dogs; Towels, bowls, biscuits and a dog bed were a really lovely touch.
Our Boys loved it so much, they sat at the large window looking out to the wood for hours.
The walk straight out into the wood was great although its not for the faint hearted.
The steepness was a challenge for me especially in the really wet weather making the paths very muddy and slippy.
Just to be aware It is next to a fairly busy road, so good recall is essential.
We had plenty of hot water for a relaxing bath overlooking the fields after.
I would definitely visit again.

We had the most beautiful stay at The Break - Claywood Shropshire, location is a stunning with woodland at your door step. The garden was perfect for the dog he was very happy here, he sometimes struggles to settle in new places but he settled straight away it was lovely. The Break was comfy, cosy and had everything you needed. The design of the place was amazing. Would definitely recommend a trip here to anyone who wants to reconnect with nature and have a bit of peace and quiet, would definitely love to return in the future.

We had such a lovely weekend away. Everything was smooth from booking right through to our stay. When we arrived, we were honestly blown away by how beautiful the building and the scenery were. The whole place felt peaceful and calm, and watching the sun set in the evenings was a real treat.

It was perfect for our dog too. The big, secure outdoor space was ideal for running around, and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches like blankets, treats, and bowls. The kitchen had everything we needed, the living room was stylish yet cosy, and the bedroom was super comfortable — plus the bath was amazing.

The only slight downside was the woodland walk behind the property. We found the path a bit tricky to follow and in some places not very safe, though this may have been due to recent storms that had damaged the trail.

Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and would happily return. It truly was a wonderful getaway

Spent 3 nights at the brake. Very peaceful setting, nice and secure for my two mastiffs.A very well fitted out property with a great wood burner, nice little welcome pack for both adults and mutts . Lovely view with its own little woodland walk .Did not see the owners during our stay but when a request was made they acted promptly on it. Would recommend to anyone. Thankyou Claywood

We had a lovely weekend here in November. The weather was surprisingly mild, it was lovely sitting in in the garden (in the sun!) which we hadn't expected to be able to do.

The property was lovely, well decorated, modern and very comfortable. Access to the woods was a bonus with the dog.
We could not let the dog off lead in the garden as he could've jumped the fence to chase the sheep (german shepard) we did not realise the sheep would be in the adjacent field. Fortunately we had a long line so he could still roam, and plenty of lovely woodland walks in the area.

We have already booked to return next year it really is a lovely place to stay.

This is our second visit this year to The Brake. Both have been lovely and we will be back!
The location is so peaceful and quiet. We stayed over Bonfire Night and didn’t hear or see a single firework. We have a dog who is frightened of fireworks and it’s perfect for her.
Loads of lovely walks on the door step and Bridgenorth is only a short drive away.
The accommodation is beautifully thought out with everything you need for self catering. It’s super warm (underfloor heating and a fab log burner) and the beds are so comfortable. It’s spotlessly clean and smells lovely!

The Brake has everything you could want. The decor is lovely and everything is thought of with a lovely welcome pack and selection of teas and coffee. The location is lovely and quiet but near enough to local attractions if you want to venture out.

We had an amazing stay at The Brake. Even though they offer it, you really don’t need to type the WiFi password in — it’s a great place to switch off and disconnect.

As much as we thought we had a great time though, no one enjoyed it as much as our cockapoo — spending hours running around the woods, then to chilling in front of the fire all evening.

We stayed here for a long weekend in early August 2025 with our two lively but reactive beagles. From the initial booking right through to our departure communication was just perfect.

The brake is well thought out and well executed, enough space for you to relax and the dogs to play, it’s nestled on the edge of the woods so walks into them a few times a day was great for us.

We literally didn’t see another soul for the 4 days we were there. It was great for us to get away and fully switch off from the busy lives we have.

The personal touches were a great addition, a little welcome note, biscuits, milk and coffee all from the local area, along with good quality teas and hot chocolate

I can not recommend staying here enough

We had a fantastic stay at The Brake. The accommodation is very impressive and practical. So comfortable and lots of very nice details e.g. bathrobes, luxurious towels and bedding, tea station etc. Loved the roll top bath in front of the picture window with views if the rolling hills and the indoor/outdoor breakfast bar was great. It's so peaceful and relaxing here. Our dog really enjoyed the garden and the dog treats/bowls/towels were a lovely plus. Can't wait to come back! Only minor suggestion would be to have a few more plates/cutlery/pots/pans for guests who cook their own meals as this would reduce the need to turn the dishwasher on every day when it's only half full.

We stayed with 2 children and 2 dogs and really enjoyed our weekend stay. The weather was not so kind, but the accommodation made up for it. The location is perfect, quiet and not overlooked, with amazing views of the Shropshire countryside. We enjoyed multiple walks with the dogs from the gated fence area and enjoyed marshmallows on the fire pit.

The Brake provided my husband and I exactly what we wanted: someplace away from everyone where we could sit around without an agenda to relax and enjoy our anniversary. We did explore some of the nearby footpaths (bring your phone and map!) and definitely enjoyed the soaking tub. The kitchen provided not only a variety of cookware but good quality and good condition. We prepared a couple meals when we didn't visit the nearby Bridgnorth for restaurants complete with a view (loved this town!). Honestly, my favorite moment was simply sitting on the very comfy couch taking in a good book while my two dogs slept and I occasionally glanced at the rain dance across the view through the kitchen or the large living room window next to me. Ruth's directions were spot on, and the welcome packet from her and Toby answered all our questions. I have zero hesitancy recommending the Brake to my friends and will definitely keep it in mind for future escapes!

What a wonderful find! I didn’t want to come home. Having a reactive dog is difficult, and for the first time she and I were able to switch off for the first time. My dog was so relaxed and chilled - she was a different dog. A beautiful location, everything you need and everything oozed quality! I went to rebook for next year but the price has gone up £20 a night so that’s a shame as it adds up and makes it too expensive.
I would not like to stay during a heatwave as on the last night it was too warm and uncomfortable to sleep, so an investment in some air con could make all the difference.
It was nice to know the owners were not too far away, but for 4 days we walked in the private woods, sat in the garden taking in the views and listening to the birds - I felt so content and my brain literally emptied of the chaos of life.
If anyone is considering booking here - just do it. It’s truly amazing - a touch of luxury whilst appreciating the quiet simple life, immersed in nature. We even saw deer in the woods - made my day!
I’d love to go back if I could afford it!

I don't think I could be more wowed by this place. I've stayed at a lot of these types of accommodations and The Brake is probably my all time favourite one. I am just about to book to return later in the year. Gorgeous setting with all the windows facing countryside or woodland. Spacious and very well equipped with full kitchen. Really cool design ideas, I loved the flooring, the hatch window onto a little ledge bar outside. Enclosed garden perfect for those bringing dogs, plenty of options for outside seating. I briefly met one of the owners on my way in who was lovely and Ruth was great and really accommodating over email. I really loved this place and thought it had been very cleverly designed. I also liked that the owners were nearby, I never heard them or saw them during my actual stay but given I was on my own with my dog, I felt safer knowing they were next door.

If you’re looking for a staycation that is reactive dog friendly, The Brake is perfect! I have a Rottweiler who is reactive to certain dogs and strangers, so it’s impossible to take him exploring… or so I thought, until I found The Brake.

The cabin is hidden away from any hustle and bustle, the garden area is completely fenced off and you have a huge 20+ acres of private woodland to explore. We didn’t see a single person or dog during our entire trip, including during our walks in the woods, which was exactly what we needed - being able to walk/explore with my dog without the stress and anxiety of meeting another dog walker or person was such a blessing!

The cabin is next to the owners home, but the two properties are back-to-back and there’s enough distance between them so that you (and any reactive dog you may have) won’t be disturbed. We saw some wild deer during our walks (one even came up to the cabin gates early in the morning!), so it’s something to consider if your dog has a high prey drive - luckily my dog was happy to observe them from a distance!

The cabin itself is gorgeous, with a fully fitted kitchen, heated floors and the nicest bathtub I have ever had the luxury of using.

For a first time staycation with my reactive dog, I couldn’t have asked for anything better and it’s given me some much needed hope for more adventures with my dog - I can’t want to stay again in the near future!

I couldn't believe the thought that has gone into every element of the design of the accommodation. For example there were squirrel cage bulbs above the main table, lighting strips in the lounge and bedroom, electronic blinds in the bedrooms...so you could see out across the fields first thing in the morning without leaving your bed. We spotted a number of rabbits on a couple of occasions.

There is a table to sit outside if you want to eat outdoors (we did) and a hatch to facilitate passing food out. A firepit with benches from where you can warm marshmallows.

There's also an extensive wood to explore on your doorstep. We were lucky it was bluebell season so saw carpets of blue across the ground. We came across quite a confident pheasant strolling along which was a bonus.

So many other amazing things too numerous to mention...the wood burning stove, bath in the main bedroom, etc.

Would highly recommend a visit to the Shrewsbury Market Hall to get some superb local food to bring back to enjoy at The Brake.

Toby and Ruth have created a lovely comfortable haven to escape and relax. We loved the log burner, fire pit and bath in the window. The beds are super comfy and the kitchen is well equipped. The decor is really tasteful.
Our little dog loved the garden and woods and there are some amazing walks very close by.

Such a lovely and secluded holiday. Much needed. If you’re wanting to connect with a bit of nature, this is perfect. From the early morning bird songs to watching the sunset with sheep on a nearby hill while a bonfire is going. The owners are so welcoming and friendly. So easy to contact. Couldn’t recommend it more! Well worth the price.

We had peaceful few days away at The Brake. Very quiet, had everything we needed. We enjoyed the firepit and wood burning fire, very beautiful views in the morning and we saw the resident deer herd. Hosts was very helpful when asked a question and replied straight away.
A bit disappointed with the woods and the forestry work happening, one day we had a lovely walk and the next day it had gone and tire tracks everywhere.
We would love to go back when the weather is nicer to properly enjoy the outside area.

This was the most perfect stay for a single female travelling with a dog. It would also be perfect for a couple looking for a bolt hole whilst exploring Shropshire. It was comfortable, quiet and I felt safe there.
The recommendations in the guest book were really handy and I very much enjoyed my Sunday lunch at The Pheasant Inn. Bridgnorth is also ultra dog friendly so it was a lovely visit.

Our family had an absolutely perfect stay at The Break in Shropshire! Every detail was thoughtfully planned, and we were so impressed with how well-stocked the place was—it truly felt like a home away from home. From the moment you spot the sign on the road to the minute you leave, this place is just amazing. Considering it's a couple of battered old shipping containers it had absolutely everything you would need for the perfect break. It has been well decorated throughout with so many great touches, it's warm & cosy with all the home comforts you need, the log burner and bath were a couple of the highlights of our stay. It's nicely secluded for some well needed rest and relaxation. A trip to Ludlow, CSONS cafe & the pheasant at Neenton for Sunday lunch are a must. Our dog was a big fan too!

We found The Brake via Instagram and were eager to book right away and are so pleased that we did.

Everything at The Brake was so well thought through from the layout to the welcome information. The views from The Brake are beautiful and we felt surrounded by nature. Our aim over the weekend was to have some time away from the daily grind and relax. We certainly did that. There is WiFi and a TV if disconnecting entirely is not for you.

Our hosts were helpful with any queries that we had. There was coffee, milk and biscuits on arrival. The kitchen was very functional and had all that we needed during our stay. The bathrobes in the bathroom were a great addition too.

We had a brilliant stay at The Brake. Everything is done to a very high spec and feel the owners have thought of everything! Set in beautiful surroundings with gorgeous views of the woods and hills. Ruth was very helpful and quick to respond to a couple of pre stay questions. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Perfect

We had a lovely stay at The Brake. Everything was so clean and modern. It was very enjoyable stay. With plenty of amenities in the cabin.

We brought some board games and would bring a Bluetooth moveable speaker so we could have some music by the fire outside if we stayed again!

Our dog loved it and we had some lovely walks and a nice drive into Bridgnorth too

We stayed in the Brake at Claywood for two nights. The location in the woods is gorgeous, from the sun setting over the hills to then dew on the grass in the morning. The beds are comfortable and the place is spotless. I loved relaxing in the sofa beside the big picture window. My daughter enjoyed playing outside.

We stayed here as a couple with a dog and were very impressed with everything. The first impressions when walking into the property were very good and there was a small welcome note which was a nice touch. The kitchen was very well stocked and worked well with a lovely view. Beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms worked very well. We loved the fact that the outside area was enclosed as it meant our dog could happily explore outside without us worrying. The fire pit outside is a nice touch for summer nights. Fantastic stay and would definitely go again
