Our 4* Gold Apple House is made up of two old barns joined together by a glassed walkway which provides lots of room for four guests in both the kitchen/dining area and the living room. It has its own enclosed patio and a private six seater hot tub. Dogs are welcome in Apple House.

A fantastic place to stay and we could not have been happier, perfect for children and even better for Dogs.

Booked with short notice and Sylvia was very accommodating.

Apple House was lovely and the perfect stay for us and our 3 doggies.

Nothing more relaxing after pounding the hills of Dartmoor than popping into the hot tub and watching the sunset.

Nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of life.

We will definitely be back again.

We spent just a weekend at Apple Barn but it was well worth the journey and the Bank Holiday traffic. Sylvia and Kristian were as welcoming as ever and we tucked straight into the delicious flapjacks and home pressed apple juice that the family had kindly left for us in Apple Barn. The cottage was spacious and spotless and had everything we could have needed. The fresh eggs were also delicious at breakfast from the resident chickens. We enjoyed our wander to the river for some frisbee throwing and then delicious pub lunches at The Cornish Arms and then The Dartmoor Inn. The jacuzzi was delightful with beautiful views across the valley. Oh and super comfy beds were much enjoyed. We will certainly return to this special place.

We had a lovely stay again at Devon Country Barns. We had booked Apple House but due to an issue with the boiler we also got to try Orchard Barn! Both properties are lovely and both have hot tubs.

Orchard Barn is a cosy cottage for 2 and we settled in really well - we would certainly book again if we were on our own. When our daughter arrived, we moved back to Apple House - as we have been before it feels like home from home and the changes in the bathroom are great. The only downside was the double bed as I found this uncomfortable (the one in Orchard is very comfy).

Strawberry Fields Farm shop is a must to visit as is both the Dartmoor and Castle Inns in Lydford - both are dog friendly. The Castle has a lovely garden if the weather is fair. We walked up to Widdergy Cross (you can park near the Dartmoor Inn) and this was a lovely walk with stunning views.

Sylvia is a wonderful host and it was lovely to visit again.

2nd time we’ve stayed in Apple House with our 2 small dogs. Lovely barn conversion everything’s well thought out and there’s everything provided for your stay (excepting of course food ) Wine, Home made apple juice , milk & cake on are left for you on arrival along with a basket of fresh eggs & even the dogs don’t get left out with a little welcome basket of balls, treats & emergency poop bags.
Barn is immaculately clean as is bed linen & towels , even towels are provided for Hot Tub use so you really only need to take separate beach towels for days out .
Lovely peaceful setting & the dogs loved exploring the river at the bottom of the field. The field onto the river is secure enough if your dog has recall, to enjoy a game of fetch in but there are free range chickens & ducks in the next field . The wall around the courtyard garden of Apple House is secure to let your dogs out in - although our inquisitive boy did find a low section so we just put our travel gate in front of it .
Host Sylvia & her family are lovely & welcoming & are on hand if you need them for anything.
Barns are near to many good walks & towns all around a 30min drive away as the barn is “inland” so if you don’t mind driving out there’s plenty to see. We found Bude beach to be a nice dog friendly beach . Barn is lovely & cool downstairs in the sunny weather but can get a little warm in the bedrooms (as in the roof area) so we took fans with us but that is really only a small thing.
Once again a lovely stay in a great setting with great hosts !

This was our 4th visit to the barns and it didn't disappoint. We were warmly greeted by the owner who had left fresh flowers, eggs, milk, wine and a delicious home made cake for us.
The barn was immaculate inside and out with outstanding views across the fields and surrounding hills.
The kitchen was very well equipped and was a real home from home.
We enjoyed using the hot tub after dark when the clear skies made for excellent star gazing. The barn is ideally placed for visiting many attractions both close by and on the coast, and there are many excellent eateries close by.
We had a lovely relaxing week here and hope to return again.

My husband, two children and I arrived on Friday afternoon and stayed until Sunday afternoon. We stayed in Apple House, which was stunningly charming, luxuriously spacious and really well equipped. The views from the hot tub were beautiful, and the only sound we could hear (apart from our two excited children splashing in the hot tub) was the glorious sounds of the countryside. Sylvia met us as soon as we arrived on Friday, with a friendly welcome, a quick whistlestop tour of the farm and a download of everything we needed to know. When we got inside we were greeted by the most delicious homemade cake and some fresh eggs from the chickens. The log burner was a welcome, cosy warm hug when we came in from the hot tub. The only time we ventured out was to visit Strawberry Fields farm shop (well worth a visit) then we holed up for the rest of the weekend to enjoy the beautiful barn. We would love to come again.

Our stay at Apple house was fantastic, property is outstanding, best cottage we have stayed in, secluded in a lovely location with lovely views. We were greeted by the owner who was friendly and gave us information of the local area, she had even baked us a delicious cake! Hot tub was fabulous!

Another stay in Apple House for our wedding anniversary. You can't book the weather but that doesn't matter as the welcome you get at DCB is second to none. The hot tub is such a treat and the Christmas decorations are always such a lovely touch.
I am tempted not to recommend as I want to keep it our little secret but find myself telling everyone about it as it is pure heaven!
Sylvia and her family work so hard to make your stay as perfect as can be and is always there to advise on places to go, eat etc.

Just had a great week in Apple House - really hard to find somewhere nice to stay when you have dogs as not everywhere can live up to expectations however this is not the case with Devon Country Barns. Apple house had spacious Accomodation for us (2 Adults 1 teenager) & our 2x small dogs. Plenty of room in main bedroom for our dogs crate & separate dog bed , 2nd bedroom also lovely & spacious- all very tastefully decorated with lovely touches . Nice enclosed rear courtyard garden with gated access to the fields which the dogs loved , being able to run down to the stream - leads are needed though depending on if the sheep & chickens are out !
Lovely rural setting with a short drive to village.
Barn is lovely with all items you could ask for no need to pack cleaning or wash items as most provided ! Very welcoming with eggs/wine & a lovely home made cake waiting for us on arrival even the dogs had a goodie basket with bag of dog treats/poop bags & a tennis ball. There’s an outside bbq available for use in your courtyard & sets of patio furniture.
Beds are very comfy & even towels for hot tub were provided. WiFi was also good which our teen was glad about .
We had mixed weather & thankfully we had packed fans with us as the bedrooms were quite warm during the hotter nights. (This was the only criticism I can make ! )
Be prepared to drive out though if you want a sandy beach day as beaches are around 50 minutes away - Bude etc .
Roadeford Lake Resevoir is only 10 minutes up the road though for a nice shaded walk with a great cafe .
Would thoroughly recommend these barns as very dog friendly. Owner Sylvia is on site & just a quick phone call away if you need her for queries or info . Really enjoyed our stay here. 5* .

We have just enjoyed a brilliant week stay at Apple House with my husband, 6 year old, 3 year old and 6month old boys.

The cottage has the wow factor and everything is 5* quality in a beautiful setting.

It was a bit of a drive to some of the places we wanted to visit but this was not a problem for us. The quiet surroundings, views and beautiful little stream for the kids to play in was well worth it.

Travelling with young children is not the easiest, things to help this could be better blackout curtains and blinds particularly for the velux and apex bedroom windows. We bought two black out travel blinds but would need 4 for the two bedrooms. At home we have velux black out blinds which weren’t expensive and easy to install so these would be a great addition to the cottage.

Maybe also some small bags of coal for bbqs / wood for the fire in the winter (at a charge of course) on site as you don’t really want to buy a big bag of coal for a couple of bbqs.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. It’s a great place with a lovely friendly welcome, with wine, cake, eggs and flowers on arrival which was a fab touch.

We had a fantastic stay for my husbands 40th birthday. Our extended family were able to book the cottages next door which worked really well. The cottages were cosy, clean and were kitted out with everything we needed. The hot tub was a big hit! We’d love to visit again soon.

My wife and I visited for a babymoon-of-soughts getaway. It was a lovely long weekend with the dog.

It was a great location, not too far from the beach - we took a trip to Bude and had a great trip along beach with the dog. Came home to a warm house where we could get cosy and relax.

Sylvia was extremely welcoming and the welcome gifts were a lovely surprise.

In the spirit of balance, there is little phone signal and the wifi doesn't reach across the whole house - but if, like us, you're going to relax and switch off then it won't be an issue.

We're planning on revisiting once the baby arrives, perhaps a visit with the (soon to be) grandparents as well.

Visited most of the barns at Barbaryball House and they do not disappoint! Very well maintained properties, all with private hot tubs which are super clean. Lovely area to walk the dog and the fresh eggs and cake supplied are a lovely welcome.

After having to cancel due to covid last year, we were delighted to be able to finally get to Apple House for new year and a 40th birthday celebration with our two young boys. It was worth the wait! This place is exceptional. The most beautiful setting, wonderful hosts, and a plethora of things around to do and see. Apple House is private, clean, well stocked and really cosy. We are already thinking of a return trip!

This is our sixth time staying at Devon Country Barns and everytime it amazes us - it keeps getting better and better!
The warm welcome, the cosiness of the cottage and the standard of cleanliness does not disappoint. We are torn between telling all our friends and family about it, yet at the same time, keeping it a secret from them as it is such a special place.
You can be guaranteed to leave much more relaxed than when you arrived and also having looked at the availability for your next visit.

This is our second time at Devon Country Barns different barn this time and it was pure bliss even with storm Arwen. The barn was lovely and spacious very clean and comfortable. The doggies enjoyed there stay as much as we did, thank you Sylvia and Kristian always a pleasure to visit your beautiful place we will definitely be back in the new year.

We really enjoyed our stay in Apple House. Plenty of space downstairs, the kitchen had everything we needed and we loved the extra touches like the sofa blankets and the cake waiting for us. The surrounding area is beautiful and it’s only a quick walk to the river near the back of the property. Dartmoor was only 15 minutes drive so we did a nice walk and saw the ponies and finished off our day relaxing in the hot tub. Perfect

An absolutely fantastic holiday property that has everything you need and in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Although there are the other letting properties nearby you feel secluded and don't ever feel encroached upon. Apple House is a beautiful barn conversion completed to very high standards and Christian and Sylvia work hard to ensure your every need is catered for, including fresh milk, eggs, homemade cake and a bottle of wine on arrival! Oh, and a bag of dog treats for your four legged companions! The only thing to note is that there are fairly few soft furnishings downstairs so the noise does travel! If travelling with children like us, then you may find yourselves whispering in the evenings when inside (outside is fine) but we did find our white noise machine in the babies room helped a lot. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be recommending to our friends.

From the start to the end, this holiday has been an excellent experience. Booking was easy, description was accurate, facilitates were immaculate and Sylvia hosting was awesome. Felt immediately relaxed from the moment we arrived. We were warmly welcomed by Sylvia who was attentive throughout the booking process and very helpful throughout our stay. There was a home made cake, flowers, fresh milk, eggs and even dog toys and treats. So thoughtful. The barns are luxurious and well-equipped. The surrounding countryside is idyllic. We will definitely be returning and hope to make many more visits to Devon Country Barns

2nd visit to Apple House and just as good as the 1st time. Lovely and clean with cake, wine, milk etc on arrival. The hot tub is great to relax in at the end of the day. Lovely pubs nearby Castle Inn and Dartmoor Inn and both dog friendly but need to book. The nearby farm shop is also a must. We hope to return again and thank you for a lovely stay x

What a welcome we received with wine, fresh eggs, flowers and home made cake waiting in our cottage! Sylvia is certainly the hostess with the mostess with nothing being to much trouble to ensure you have the perfect stay at DCB. The cottages thereselves are beautiful and the location is perfect, it’s so quiet for the relaxing atmosphere we were after, but within half hour drive ish of all places we wanted to visit. The stream at the bottom of the field was visited by our two spaniels everyday, so clean and tranquil. We will definitely be back again!

This was our 5th stay at Devon Country Barns and we certainly weren’t disappointed. From the moment you arrive and discover what cake Sylvia has left for you to the moment you leave, you are made to feel so very welcome. Nothing is to much trouble for The Lennards. The cleanliness and attention to detail within the barns is second to none.
Our only disappointment-we can never stay longer!
Thank you for another fab stay Sylvia and Kristian - can’t wait to come back later in the year. Would most definitely recommend these barns to anyone wanting a relaxing break (but selfishly I would love to keep this special hidden treasure to ourselves!)

We had a wonderful week in the Apple House. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the owners who couldn’t be more relaxed and helpful, especially with our dogs.
The cottage is beautifully appointed and superbly equipped. Stunning views from the cottage windows, from the lovely enclosed garden, and particularly from the hot tub which was heavenly! Whilst we didn’t have the best of weather, the cottage was spacious and comfortable to relax in and there’s still plenty to do as it’s a great location for exploring both north Devon and Cornwall.
We will definitely be back!

We had booked our stay as we got married on the Saturday and went straight after the ceremony. When we arrived we were blown away how fantastic the grounds and views were.
We were greeted by Sylvia who was very welcoming and lovely.
When we got into our barn there was a cake, bottle of wine and some roses waiting for us.
The barn was super clean and homely. The hot tub was amazing for being in it and watching the sunset.
It was so peaceful and relaxing.
We cannot wait to return!

We arrived to a warm welcome, greeted with a smile and friendly introduction to the Barn. Everything was as good as we had hoped for. The beds were very comfy, the attention to detail with decoration and furnishings was lovely, dog friendly inside and out and the hot tub fabulous. We will return, in the sunshine!

From the moment we arrived we felt totally at home.
Welcomed with flowers, wine, homemade cake with treats and toys for our two dogs was such a lovely thought.
Apple House has everything you could possibly need to make your stay comfortable. The bed and linens are top quality and we slept soundly every single night.
Sylvia has certainly thought of everything to make sure her guests needs are met and is always at hand if you need anything at all.
The barns are situated in the most beautiful valley and the views are amazing, it is so peaceful and quiet.
Unfortunately we had to cut short our stay because of new Covid rules coming into place but we have already booked our return visit and we cannot wait.

We had a wonderful stay in Apple House from 19 - 26 Sept . The cottage has everything that you need and the hot tub is a lovely addition, the area is very quiet and peaceful. It was lovely to sit and look at the stars at night from the hot tub. The cottages are in a lovely location - close enough to visit the coast and dartmoor. The farm shop at Lifton is a must to visit. We hope to return again.

I have previously stayed in Tractor Barn with my Husband and two other couples for New Year 2018 and decided to bring my three girlfriends for a relaxing hot tub weekend break.
Everything in the property is finished to the highest standard, the amenities are excellent (although the wifi was a little touch and go but not a major issue as only stayed two nights). I love everything about this place and it is incredibly good value for money. The location is idyllic and Sylvia is extremely friendly and helpful. The homemade cake and fresh eggs on arrival were such a lovely touch.

I am already planning my next visit and have recommended this place to so many people already, having had two fabulous experiences. Keep up the good work!

Brilliant stay at Apple House,Sylvia so welcoming and helpful and gave us all info we needed to enjoy our time there.
We arrived to a home made loaf cake,fresh eggs,Apple juice and treats for pup, such a thoughtful and lovely extra touch and it
was so appreciated. The cottage was spotlessly clean as was the bedding and towels,We all said how comfy the beds were
and a brilliant nights sleep we all had. The views just WOW! shared my morning coffee with the sheep within touching distance!
The Hot tub was huge and we really enjoyed it! Pup adored the river that was just at the bottom of the field and he could just
run and do his zoomies as much as he wanted off lead with no fear of escape! So very relaxing,had a fabulous stay and would recommend to all my friends and anyone thinking of booking a stay. Thanx Sylvia and Kristian it was just fab!

We had originally booked a different cottage in the north of England, we had emailed the owners twice and spoken to them twice yet upon arrival (after a 3 hour drive) the owners looked sheepishly at us and advised that they had not received our booking and they had no accommodation available – this was a bad start to our 27 year Anniversary celebrations, we were absolutely gutted, disappointed and angry, we drove home and the following day looked for another cottage - I don’t wish to spend any more time on this debacle….

Well what a difference a professionally run business makes – we were lucky to find an absolute gem in Devon County Barns!! and Sylvia (Sylvia the life saver) was amazing, she worked with our booking agent, they agreed terms, she jumped into action and everything was ready for the time we arrived. The cottage is impressive, large and luxurious it was exceptionally clean and well equipped. The views from the windows and spa were just perfect. Our frowns were turned upside down and we had an excellent stay – Sylvia and Kristian, thanks again, we will 100% be back

This is the third time we've been back to the barns, Kristian and Sylvia couldn't be more welcoming and attentive.
The barn itself was clean and very well presented, providing everything you could think of needing. The surrounding fields and stream were perfect for entertaining the kids and the location is great for day trips to numerous beaches, harbours and towns.
As always, we had a fabulous holiday and are already planning our trip back again next year - can't wait!
Couldnt recommend Devon Country Barns more highly!

We have just spent the most amazing week in the spotlessly clean Apple Barn. Sylvia and her family work tirelessly to ensure your holiday is faultless. From the amazing barns (which are equipped with everything you need) to the comfortable furnishings and the wonderful hot tub, to the amazing location - this is a little gem of a place to relax and refresh.

We have never stayed in such a lovely holiday home. It was nice to be provided with treats for the dog and humans on arrival and it was the little touches like the complimentary toiletries and the bathrobes that really makes this a home from home.

We stayed in Apple Cottage for 3-nights with 2 friends and our 2 dogs. We had a warm welcome from Sylvia and a lovely surprise of a fresh blueberry and lemon cake waiting for us. Lovely gifts for the dogs and everything you would need in the kitchen for a holiday. Great space with plenty of room and fantastic decor and bathroom products. Spotlessly clean with a fantastic outside space and incredible views. Plenty of parking and a lovely little stream at the bottom of one of the fields which we paddled in with the dogs. We would thoroughly recommend Devon Country Barns, thank you Sylvia and Kristian.

This is a such wonderful find. It was our second visit to Apple House to see in the new year and it did not disappoint. On arrival, the lovely Christmas tree, tea lights twinkling, home made cake, fresh eggs, not to mention a lovely bottle of Champagne was just the welcome we needed. The house is cosy, warm, spotless and the hot tub is a lovely luxury. Cuddling up around the wood burner with logs from the barn was a lovely way to relax. Sylvia was a wonderful host, nice to have a chat with her and Christian but she also left us to enjoy our family few days together. This is a good base to explore the local area but also to chill, unwind from the bustle of life. We love it and will definitely be back!

Apple House had a unique nicely proportioned living room. Comfy beds. Hot tub offered sheltered views of the surrounding countryside. It was good to see the ducks, geese and chickens. We stayed in Apple House, one of 5 barns on the Devon Country Barns site for a week in July/August.

The barn was lovely and clean and the owners, Sylvia, Kristian and their family were very friendly and welcoming, without being intrusive.

Each barn has its own private hot tub. I've never been bothered about using hot tubs in other properties we've stayed in, but we gave this one a go and continued to make good use of the it each evening, watching the sun set over the fields and this made the barn extra special.

Well placed for exploring both Devon and Cornwall, but expect to do quite a bit of driving to get to key tourist spots in either.

A good week had by all and would definitely recommend!

We had a wonderful holiday at Devon Country Barns and a short two day stay in ‘Apple House’, which provided all the equipment you need for a home from home holiday break away. The house itself had an excellent standard of cleanliness and the bed was so comfortable to sleep in too, which is always a bonus. Our Chocolate Lab, Lumen also enjoyed her gift of dog-treats and ball and felt relaxed within her homely surroundings at Apple House, which caters as a very dog friendly place to stay.
On arrival, we were delighted to find a welcome homemade cake which Sylvia makes for her guests and we must state that it is one of the best cakes we’ve ever tasted. The eggs provided were also of fantastic quality and taste too, so thank you.
Although the weather wasn’t great, we still managed to enjoy a lovely couple of days exploring the local areas, we especially liked ‘Roadford Lake’, which we recommend for dog walking and sight-seeing. Launceston town was great for food shopping and essential items too.
Finally, we would definitely recommend Devon Country Barns to friends and family, especially those with dogs.

Well yet again we have had a wonderful stay in Apple House. We relaxed as soon as we turned the key ! Devon Country Barns are situated in a lovely location with wonderful walks only a short car journey away. Sylvia & Christian have taken over from Richard & Ute seamlessly, upholding their very high standards, which is very much appreciated when only away for a short break. We will be booking again for next year & if possible will try to get a sneaky quick break in later this year.

Apple Barn was just perfect for what we needed, a clean warm & very comfortable barn with an enclosed garden & then fields to walk our dogs in.

We have been before to Devon Country Barns & love it, the hosts Richard & Ute are so hospitable & have great knowledge of local pubs & walks. So yes we will be back!

We have now stayed in most of the Barns & they are all different but all perfect

When you have two dogs it is hard to find good accommodation to stay in with them & this is one of the best.

We live relatively locally to Apple House, but wanted a weekend to just get away from it all. We wanted to spend time just relaxing in the cottage and were lucky that the weather was dry enough to make full use of the hot tub, which was a real highlight! Our dog also enjoyed exploring the grounds and splashing in the river. All in all a lovely cottage with great facilities. We would love to have been able to stay longer. Would definitely recommend.

A wonderful place to unwind - a real gem. We wanted a 'family' new year and Apple House certainly delivered. We absolutely loved it - fresh eggs and lemon cake on arrival, comfortable beds, good shower and a view to die for. We must mention the hot tub which was bliss and a great way to celebrate ringing in 2019. The house has all the equipment you need with some lovely little touches - kids loved the underfloor heating, not to mention several games of Cleudo! A great place to explore the local area too - we will definitely be back!

Devon Country Barns was highly recommended to us and I am happy say the recommendation proved correct. The accommodation is first class and ideal for anyone travelling with dogs. A good host/hostess should always introduce themselves personally- its a sign of good manners and a pride in their establishment- Richard and Ute did and have both.

The weather was not brilliant during our time in Devon but we found plenty to occupy ourselves during our stay. I highly recommend a trip with your dogs to Saunton Sands - a marvelous, dog friendly beach about an hour away.

All in all a very enjoyable trip with excellent accommodation- highly recommended to the well mannered and discerning traveller who wants to take their four legged friends on a little adventure !!!!

Apple House is a fabulous barn, great size & well kitted out & so comfortable, we were just done for the weekend so didn’t want to go out much.
But with the fields & Orchard there is plenty of space to walk your dogs without having to leave the site.
The barns has plenty of dvd’s & books plus games so you can be as active as you want.
We will be back!

Having just returned from a few days away in Devon and specifically at Devon Country Barns I can honestly say how happy the stay has made us. After a difficult few months, time away from home was so welcomed and to do it in such a setting was truly wonderful. We stayed in Apple House which is beautiful, perfectly placed to overlook the lovely countryside all around the Barns especially from the comfort of the hot tub! We were incredibly lucky to experience the best weather of 2018 so far and we took full advantage to both explore the magnificent surroundings and also enjoy the cottage to the full. Both Ute and Richard are as welcoming hosts as you can get and their hospitality is second to none. We can’t wait for our next visit!

We have stayed at two of these properties now and both have been superbly appointed with excellent fittings and facilities. A lot of care and attention has been given to the conversions. The owners welcome dogs and they too have everything they would need. The owners are always on hand to help if needed. Dog walking is not “on the doorstep” but there are plenty of nice places a short drive away. We will definitely be back.

Always enjoy our stay here ... we stayed in apple house in January and it was a lovely relaxing weekend ... Richard and Ute make you feel very welcome and provide a welcoming cake and fresh eggs! .. we really enjoy our time away at Devon country barns... beautiful place and stunning views !

We have stayed at Devon Country Barns before & loved it so much we decided to celebrate my husbands birthday there.

We have two dogs so to find such a quality place that is open to having dog is great for us.
Apple barn is a 4* gold standard accommodation, not sure why it isn’t 5* (maybe the lack of a full size freezer) as it nothing to do with cleanliness or quality of furnishings- the ground floor is a great size with separate zones & the sofa & chairs are comfy. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms & a bathroom
Outside there is a walled patio area with a large hot tub which over looks fields
You can walk your dogs on the owner’s fields down to the river (you just have to be careful of loose chickens & ducks) they have some sheep that they move round the fields so please make sure you pick up after your dog.
The owners live on site & are wonderful & very helpful with anything you need. Richard is always willing to help out with some dog training tips.
As you can tell we love it there & have booked to go back again.
