Located on the stunning lime avenue drive to Arniston House, Lime, Chestnut, Sycamore and Elm Cottages form part of a row of 5 stone cottages which housed the foresters' for the estate in days gone by. Set in a sunny tranquil courtyard the cottages overlook fields to the north. The cottages also have an area of peaceful garden for visitors' use. A timeless place to relax in the country yet only 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh with all its attractions. An ideal base for families with pets.

Everything was so wonderful and perfect. It was everything that we had dreamed our stay in Scotland would be. Henrietta was so kind and helpful, she even recommended a lovely place to eat and shop! The grounds of the estate were beautiful and amazing to explore. We will definitely be returning to the estate in the future

A lovely cottage in a quiet location. Very comfortable and well equipped. Plenty to do in the area, or just enjoy the tranquility at the cottage. Henrietta was welcoming and the information we received before and during out stay was very helpful.
Highly recommend

We needed a place to stay for a few days since we were having work done in our house, and found this amazing place while searching on Google. The cottage is lovely! Everything was above and beyond our expectations!
The estate surrounding the cottage is wonderful, peaceful and beautiful.
Despite the weather was not great we really enjoyed spending time indoors.
The cottage has Everything you need to make you feel like being home.

Had a thoroughly relaxing break, Henrietta extremely helpful. Our only fault if there is one is that the microwave and oven were dated, particularly the microwave, and the property would benefit from a smart tv. Comfortable beds, we all slept well and delicious eggs! Thank you.

We had a very nice first visit to this part of Scotland - to visit family who have downsized! We were really glad that we found and could afford such a nice place to stay. Everything was great - really comfortable, felt like the setting for a Catherine Cookson novel! The fire was hard to keep alight with just wood - I assume this is because in the old days this fire was used for coal? But there were some lovely blankets in the downstairs (twin) bedroom that we put to good use when the heating went off (we’re night owls!). Tiny TV but the kitchen was really well equipped - even had a hand whisk!

We chose this cottage because of its authentic appearance and because it is located on a beautiful estate. In addition, it is also close to Edinburgh which we wanted to visit. You can do it by car or by train from Gorebridge. The cottage is small but nice and cosy. There is a even a nice fireplace. Furthermore, the facilities were complete for a week's stay for 4 people. The only pity was that the freezer was quite frozen over, so we could only use 1 drawer.

We had a brilliant week here at Chesnut cottage. The grounds are absolutely lovely with lots of walks and country parks located nearby. Edinburgh is just a short drive and there were lots of attractions there for my boys.
The cottage itself is very comfortable and I loved cooking in the airy kitchen! Everthing we needed was available. Henrietta was extremely helpful and immediately helped me with any queries I had. Just a serene, comfortable stay.

The cottage was a perfect base for visits to Edinburgh (train nearby in Gorebridge), Glasgow (only 1 hour drive), and other wonderful places like Rosslyn Chapel, the Pentland hills,… The cottage is really charming and cosy and provides all the comfort you need after a long day out. Only the shower is a bit basic, but it works well enough. Another plus is that the cottage is situated in the large domain of Arniston house. It is very quiet and you can take long walks on the estate.
We certainly hope to go back sometime.

My family and I stayed in Chestnut cottage for a week in July. I was working in Edinburgh for the week and was able to hop on the train at Gorebridge station and be in the centre of the city within 25 mins. Coming back to Arniston after my working day was an absolute pleasure as I could walk the grounds and be totally relaxed almost immediately. My family (wife and three kids aged 6, 3 and 1) loved exploring the grounds spending time in the cottage itself during the day. The cottage is beautiful inside and out, very clean and so comfortable. We had everything we needed for our stay and felt really well looked after by our hosts. We will definitely be making a return to Chestnut Cottage when we can. Highly recommended.

A second visit to Arniston Estate and a third planned in Nov. The cottages offer well furnished, calming and cosy interiors to enjoy any time of the year. It is however, the location and the welcome that set it apart. The grounds are beautiful and offer a tranquil space to explore and escape from a busy world. Henrietta is a very welcoming host and most importantly for us they are genuinely dog friendly, not just saying it. There is plenty of space to let dogs exercise and play without annoyance to other guests and simple adherence to the private signs make it easy not to invade the owners space. Perfect location for Edinburgh city visits and to the coast.

My husband and I, and our terriers enjoyed a four night break at Arniston House Holiday Cottages.
Chestnut Cottage is lovely, quaint, functional and just like a home from home. Having genuinely dog friendly surroundings is a must for us as we do not holiday without our 'girls' and this break was truly just that. With a secure small paddock for the dogs to run around freely was an absolute boom, whilst observing dogs on leads in all other areas of the grounds, which are beautifully kept. The cottages are only 5 minutes from supermarkets, newsagents, chemist and takeaways and we visited several outdoor parks/venues within short driving distances. Wished we had booked for longer and certainly will next time! Thank you for a lovely stay. The Baxters.

Chestnut Cottage has a lounge, well equipped kitchen, twin bedroom and generous hallway storage downstairs. Upstairs there is a bathroom with over bath shower and a spacious attic style bedroom.

The area is idyllic; despite being well connected to the road network and a nearby train station at Gorebridge you very much feel a sense of the countryside. There are beautiful trees, animals such as pigs, cows and sheep in the surrounding fields. It was exactly the type of relaxing, cosy place to settle for a good night's rest.

The beds are soft and comfortable, the linen clean; the twin and master had either throw blankets or bedspreads. The bathroom and kitchen had been well cleaned before arrival. There were some dusty shelves in the eaves storage in the master bedroom, some dust on one of the windowsills and personally I think the carpets could do with a steam clean. There was a new rug in the lounge area and the sofas are comfortable. Some of the fixtures are slightly tired but all are perfectly functional and for me, this added a cosy sense of homeliness to my stay.

The cottage is warm in the evenings and there is a fireplace with logs if you wish to use it. I enjoyed a couple of strolls alongside a track through some woodland at sunset. Gore Glen Woodland Park is very close by, as are Dalkeith and Vogrie.

At night-time the courtyard area is very dark and silent, I would suggest anyone take the torch supplied in the cottage if you'd like to venture outside after dark and to be aware of how the sensors work on the outside lighting. I spent 4 of the 7 nights on my own and I might have been a bit spooked otherwise.

My host Henrietta was very helpful with an enquiry on the first day of my stay and I saw her briefly on my last day. Like any good host she is available to be contacted when needed but allowed me my privacy and space during the stay; I very much appreciated this.

I am sure I will stay at the cottages again, they're very close to where my family live and I loved the tranquility and comfort.

A very comfortable and lovely cottage with everything we needed for our stay. Huge bonus to have a plentiful supply of logs for the fire which we really enjoyed. The kitchen is well equipped. Lounge area is good, although I found seating a little on the low side. Customer service was fantastic. The Estate is beautiful with lovely walks..all in all a good stay thank you!

We stayed at Chestnut cottage over New Year. Lovely location in a pretty setting. The accommodation was nice, but with a few drawbacks.
The accommodation was somewhat clean, a few cobwebs in the corner here or there and a pan or two in the kitchen that needed a scrub before use. The bathroom was really not great, few mouldy corners, grubby toilet brush, and the shower only produced warm water.
The cottage had everything you needed for a holiday though.

Cottage was great, really homey. Very clean and comfortable. The info pack we received before hand and the one in the cottage were amazing. Cycling routes, carry out menus, maps, everything you could ever need to know.

The grounds are out of this world! I had planned local walks incase the grounds were private or not suitable for our young spaniel to be off lead but we never actually left the grounds.

Can’t wait to come back.

We stayed in Chestnut Cottage for 3 nights. The cottage has lots of traditional features and everything you need for a short break or longer break. The area is so peaceful and the grounds/property are well looked after. This is an excellent property to bring your dog. Artiston House looks amazing. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to tour the home, due to the opening times being outside of our stay. We did however walk around the grounds and had a lovely time looking for the sunken garden. It is such a shame that our short break came to an end, but I have a feeling we will return when we next visit the Edinburgh area as this place is a real gem. Communication from the owners was excellent.

A nice comfortable little cottage and I felt quite at home during my stay (6 nights). It was well equipped and nicely decorated and furnished. I do, however, have 2 criticisms. The radiators require to be bled as most were cool at the top and hot at the bottom. The lighting needs to be looked at - in the bathroom it needs to be vastly improved, seriously! Also in the kitchen the strip light under the unit by the microwave was not working and the cooker extraction fan light didn't work. Despite that I was glad I stayed there and a little sad to leave it - it had such character.

We stayed here for a short break and had a great time. The cottage was lovely and comfortable and provided everything we needed. The surroundings were beautiful with lots of walks straight from the door. The weather was warm and sunny so the shared garden area came in handy to sit outside with a coffee. The dog also had a great time!
We also had a very warm welcome from Henrietta. Thanks for everything. We will be back in the future.

The cottages at Aniston were excellently located both for sight seeing by road and by train to Edinburgh. The tip of using the train instead of the park and ride was great and station is only a few mins away. The owners were friendly and allowed our daughter to use the trampoline daily - weather permitting. The cottage was clean and well appointed. Would not hesitate to book again off we were ever in the area again. Super holiday and super memories.
