Located on the stunning lime avenue drive to Arniston House, Lime, Chestnut, Sycamore and Elm Cottages form part of a row of 5 stone cottages which housed the foresters' for the estate in days gone by. Set in a sunny tranquil courtyard the cottages overlook fields to the north. The cottages also have an area of peaceful garden for visitors' use. A timeless place to relax in the country yet only 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh with all its attractions. An ideal base for families with pets.

4 nights at the Lime cottage this time. Again, overall an excellent stay with great value for money and beautiful grounds to explore. Lime cottage benefits from the ground floor ensuite bedroom, which suited the wife and I perfectly. Cozy nights with a fire in the living room and ability to prepare our own breakfast/dinner at our time of choice. As long as you have a car this makes a great base to explore the region and if you don't like navigating the traffic in downtown Edinburgh, just park at either Gorebridge, Newton Grange or Eskbank train stations and hop on the Borders train to Waverly station downtown. All in all a very peaceful stay in a quaint restored stone cottage. We will be back.

The cottage is lovely and has all the amenities that you need. Great that the cottages are dog friendly so that the beautiful countryside can be explored with our dogs too. Any questions are addressed immediately and I would highly recommend staying at Lime Cottage

A beautiful cottage and setting, every effort had been made to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The log burner with plenty of fire wood made for cosey evenings. Ideal for trips into Edinburgh.

Everything about the stay was perfect. I particularly like that there was not an extra charge for logs. The country side and nature are beautiful and abundant. We felt happy, comfortable and welcomed during our stay. We are going back in November.

This is the second time we have stayed in the cottages. It’s in a lovely location and is very convenient for us visiting family in the area. The cottages have many traditional features which are lovely albeit some are looking a little bit tired, however, excellent value for money.

We picked Arniston as its a great base to explore Edinburgh and the surrounding areas whilst being cosy and accommodating for those with mobility constraints and dog lovers. The properties offer great value and this was our second stay at Lime Cottage. And believe it or not the sun shone all week.

We rented two cottages for ourselves and visiting family. They were very well equipped and comfortable. There was a huge amount of local information provided in the cottages on everything including take-aways, shopping, restaurants, and visits to Edinburgh. The Estate is very beautiful, with the house furnished with original items and pictures. The grounds contain lots of old trees and wildlife such as owls, bats, and birds. We had a lovely time there despite the weather.

Good location within 30 minutes of city centre. Relaxing grounds to walk around. Henrietta the host was always available and most helpful. Ideal for a small family with dogs catered for as well. Not the biggest property but comfortable for 2 couples or children. Good strong WiFi signal and not too far from shops and city centre.

We enjoyed our stay in the historic Lime Cottage. Beds were comfy, the cottage was warm and it contained everything you need for a short break. Parking right at your door, the extensive grounds of Arniston House outside and a train station 10 minutes away for trips into the Edinburgh Fringe and Tattoo. Great place to stay near Edinburgh.

A great stay in a stately location. Having your own lime tree lined drive to your cottage sets the tone for an idyllic week away from it all. Delightful cottage equipped with all you need ideal for two couples with 2 bathrooms up and downstairs. Away from the hustle and bustle but within reach of Edinburgh and the towns and villages of Lothian and beyond. So quiet especially at night so great sleeps. A tour of Arniston Hall is a must so much history and renovations continue to make it a ‘homely’ home,

On arriving late we met up with the owner as the cottage we had booked had been occupied . Having a night in a differant cottage next door we were upgraded to Gardeners House the same day by the kind owner who couldn't do enough to make our stay welcome . What a delight situated by a brook so peaceful and large enclosed garden for our huskies . Will go back .

When I arrived and opened the door, the cottage was lovely and warm. Although it was May, the weather was cold. There was really helpful information on adjusting the heating and lighting the wood burning stove (wood provided). Also a resource folder for things to do in the area. Well equipped kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, microwave. Both bedrooms have their own en suite.
The cottage is tastefully decorated and furnished, and although part of a terrace of cottages, I heard no noise from the neighbours. Car parking is just beside the front door in the courtyard.
The setting was very peaceful. I was on a course during the day and ate out in the local area at night. Communication from the owner was timely and helpful.
I am returning to Lime Cottage in September for a slightly longer stay.

Never stayed in such a warm cottage. The log burner supplied ample hot water for a nice relaxing bath.,and at the same time provided the central heating for the cottage. A step back in time cleaning and setting the fire every day, but we'll worth it!
Well positioned for visits to Edinburgh and the Borders, or nice relaxing walks through the grounds of the estate.

We spent four nights at this outstanding property. Accommodation was in one of four 18th Century former Forester’s Cottages on the estate, all of which have been tastefully restored and equipped with modern conveniences. Our cottage (Lime Cottage) was a beautiful, historic, two bedroom, two bathroom, double storey stone building with a wood burning fire and modern kitchen. Our cottage was decorated with historic portraits of Arniston ancestors, and was spacious and warm.

Our host, Henrietta Dundas’ family have lived on the estate for the past 400 years and Henrietta’s knowledge of the property’s history and that of the local area is obviously unsurpassed. We were lucky enough to have Henrietta give us a tour of the main house which was probably the highlight of our trip to Edinburgh! The grounds of the estate are beautiful with plenty of opportunity for walking and rambling though the 19th Century trees and gardens.

In summary this property is probably the best AirBnB property we have stayed at, is very competitively priced, and is only 11 miles from Edinburgh with a very regular train service nearby. I cannot speak highly enough of this property or our host and would highly recommend it to everyone!
