Our family had a wonderful stay at Sycamore Cottage. It was a fairly last minute booking but we feel that we found a gem! The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and cosy and had everything we needed. The information we received before our stay was great with details of transport links, pubs, restaurants and take ways as well as ideas for days out.
We will definitely be back!

The cottage was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. Our main aim for our stay was to have some quiet accommodation during attending the Edinburgh Fringe. As we were a party of 4 therefore we booked taxis each day to the city and the local taxi firm was very accommodating. Arniston is a beautiful estate and a tour of the house and the history of the Dundas family must not be missed. Stunning scenery and wonderful walks. We would highly recommend this hidden gem to others.

Arniston never disappoints, we’ve stayed in the other 2 cottages, all are exceptional, we love the peace and quiet of the estate, which provides great walks and lovely scenery.
Thoroughly recommend Arniston as a fabulous retreat for peace and tranquillity, while Edinburgh is only 30 minutes away by train, there’s so mulch to see and do.

We stayed for a week and enjoyed the whole experience, very much a cottage feel, wood burner in the lounge and peaceful surroundings, very accommodating for us and our two German Shepherd dogs. Owners very helpful and responsive to requests for information.

Lovely and well-maintained cottages on the Arniston estate. No jacuzzis or cocktail bars nearby but a very quiet and secluded getaway, wood fire, beautiful estate to walk around outside your door. A few minutes drive for some more serious walks (Portmore, Gladhouse, etc.). Extremely friendly and helpful owners.

We needed somewhere to stay with easy access to Edinburgh , to visit my mum for 1st time since Covid lockdown . What a great place we found in Sycamore Cottage. Dog friendly . Fully equipped kitchen. Very comfy bed. and and amazing log burner with plentiful supply of logs . Tess (dog) and I enjoyed meeting the pet sheep and pigs on our morning wander around the grounds . Would have loved to have visited the main house .Maybe next time post covid .
There was only 2 of us this time but plenty room for 4 . Hope for a return visit .

We enjoyed a lovely stay with our kids (6 & 9). The cottage was spotlessly clean and very thorough COVID-19 precautions had been taken.
The cottage was very cosy, well laid out and equipped.
The location is good for trips into Edinburgh or surrounding countryside. We visited North Berwick which is lovely.
We went on a tour of the house which was very interesting, and enjoyed walking in the grounds.
We also loved seeing the wildlife on the estate. It was lovely to let the kids stay up late to see deer, rabbits, bats and owls, right on our doorstep.
Communication with the owner was good before and during our stay.

The cottage is charming and the location ideal for exploring the many local highlights. The accommodation is comfortable although a little tired in places and would benefit from an update. We would have welcomed more to do onsite such as some children’s play equipment and signposted walks.

Our stay at sycamore cottage was everything we needed. Ideally placed to visit lots of places. We had the best sleeps in comfy bed and so peaceful set in the grounds of arniston house which were lovely to explore. Our host was very helpful if needed. The house is a great place to take a guided tour around.

We had a very enjoyable week at Sycamore cottage. Henrietta was very helpful and checked that everything was ok. The log fire was a great success and the never ending supply in the log store meant we were warm as toast when the fire was alight as it supplies the central heating. We loved the electric blankets and the auto timer electric radiators in the bedroom and sitting room. Yes it was chilly at times but I think we slept better as a result! The countryside views are glorious and the estate is stunning.
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. Next time we hope to explore the estate more and see the sunken garden.

Ideal for a small family and a pet dog. Walks and location are splendid.There was easy access to the owner.
A stair rail needs fitting as the most urgent item.A clothes hook on the bathroom door and extra cutlery are also needed.
Once these are completed it will be an excellent cottage.

Have had a few stays at Arniston Estate and have never ever been let down.
A very special setting, that gives you privacy, quiet and lots of lovely walks. Within easy distance of the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh etc.
I have family locally, so when coming from Devon to visit, I stay at Arniston Estates. Wouldn't go anywhere else as it is so easy for me.

Excellent value for money. Comfortable, clean and cosy. Country estate within easy reach of Edinburgh. It has been the perfect base from which to explore the Scottish Borders and beyond. The grounds provide ample scenic walks. The highlight of our stay was Bonfire Night with the impressive fireworks display. We appreciated the warm welcome and hospitality provided by Henrietta. Would definitely come back for another stay.

What a lovely place for a short break, it was close enough to Edinburgh to allow access to all the attractions and the surrounding areas. It provided everything required for a great stay, after a busy day out it was lovely to return and be able to relax in a comfy lounge with log burner giving a lovely back ground heat. The bedrooms are a great size with easy access to the spacious bathroom. The lack of surrounding light provided a great chance to star gaze.

Sycamore Cottage is full of charm and history. I stayed here because I was attending the Edinburgh Whiskey Academy's Single Malt Scotch Whiskey Diploma course. The location (and the course) were wonderful and exceeded expectations. The owner of the Arniston House is delightful and very helpful. I enjoyed my stay and will book again when in the area. Wonderful experience
